The peridot is a level 1 HQ synth on a green rock. Polishing rocks with wind crystals has 3 or 4 different HQ levels, unlike most craftables which have only one level of HQ result.

Bards have nothing to do with the fame we are talking about. That bard you are talking about is only concerned with what events you have done in that zone... what cut scenes you have seen or what titles you have gained. Some bards let you see the cut scenes and some will change your title to something you had before.

20 quests total isn't really that many. I'd suggest doing some of the quests in Jeuno - Chocobo, the flower girl (for mog house exit), the magic wonder set, the community service quest, etc. Just go to the Jeuno quests section and try and do as many as possible.
Also, go back to your home down and do more there, as well as more in the other towns. I got this when I got my chocobo quest done, but I had about 20 in just my home town, plus a dozen more or so in other areas.
Easiet way to get this quest!

Unlad all your eq and max out buying La Thiene Cabbages (or millioncorn if you can purchase these) and go to Selbina (via Choco preferred). You should be able to complete the La Thiene cabbage quest with Melyon 72 times with maxed cabbages or 120 times with the corn. Each trip will allow you enough fame for 1 goobie bag upgrade. Ohh btw cabbage is usually $25 each so you almost break even.

Alright, I just did it and despite my otherwise rather low fame I did in fact get to do the quest. Peridot cost 15k, which doesn't seem too unreasonable. Put me out a bit over 20k total. I'll verify if doing it again lets me do gobbiebag II later.

I've found that it is much better for your time/money to use stacks of boyhada moss instead of cabbage or millicorn. If you buy a stack for 7k gil on the AH, you will make a slight profit. I was able to activate over 30 quests at once in Bastok after turning in 4 stacks, gained a bit of extra gil(maybe 1k total), and my fame there is now level 4 I believe.

i wish, Boyhada Moss was around 10K a stack last time i checked (Fairy Server)
Incorrect Information
# Feb 14 2004 at 9:23 PM Rating: Default
The number of quests listed as needing to be done is incorrect. I have completed this many quests per city
Bastok: 19
Windurst: 1
Jueno: 1
Other Areas: 3
San d'Oria: 13
Total: 37
and all he tells me is "Gobbiebags are the bomb! They carry lotsa loot! Ya want one too, don'tcha" and so I still can't get the quest.

Its funny, i never have any problems in getting quests, i guess thats the benefit us White Mages get since we need to do quests in each capital to get the teleport scrolls :)

i am pretty sure any Job/player (with enough fame) can do the tele scroll quests...it is prolly just easier(sp?) with a WHM to heal the escortee

I got this quest using my rank 2 level 17 mithra thief, highest job level. I have about 25 unique quests done in windurst (hometown) and 25 in bastok as well as maybe 30 repeats in windurst and a couple in bastok. The fame NPC in windurst talks about guys chatting about me over thier dinner. I have done Rycharde 1-5 in Mhaura and "Only the Best" in Selbina. I also have no quests completed in Jueno, San d'Oria or any of the more advance towns. I did a few bead quests for Nanaa Mihgo and the Zinc Ore Quest in Bastok, that is it for Tenshodo.

I have not completed the quest yet however, since I unfortunatly spent all my money at the AH and now feel incredibly stupid.

Update: I managed to sell my Flame Sword and got the cash to do the quest, I now have 35 inv slots. However, he would not give me the next quest, just bragged about his bag.

Requirements
# Jan 12 2004 at 6:39 AM Rating: Decent
I was able to get this quest at level 28 with only 30 unique quests done (but lots of repeatables). 90% of the quests were for my home country. Judging by the posts here, the level requirement, if there is one, is less than 18. And it's not the number of completed unique quests that counts, but also the number of repeatables.

# Jan 12 2004 at 12:53 AM Rating: Default
Ok, I see that some of you think that you have to have alot of unique quests done to trigger this gobbie bag quest. This is untrue. I currently have 6 unique quests done in sandoria, but i have repeated 2 of the repeatable quests atleast 50-100 times each, i mostly did nothing but those quests as a low lvl...anyways, this proves that you don't need a bunch of unique quests, just repeat some of the repeatable quests alot of times and you are all set.

I'm a level 30 thief, 25 Dark Knight, 11 Warrior, and I have 3 other advanced jobs unlocked, did 12 quests in each Windurst and San, not counting repeats, 6 in Bastok, no repeats. I've done the repeatable bat wings, something like 7 million times...ok, less, but alot, and I still can't get the quest. I think I'm going to try the street light quest, and see if that changes anything...if I can get it.

since you posted Jan 2 04 i think youve got enough fame for the quest...but i am not directing this reply directly at you but at the people who have the same question as you did.

#1 check to be sure all the items are correct(IE the exact thing he asks for).

#2 Are you trading the items one at a time or all together? You need to trade them in the same trade window/transaction.

#3 double check to make sure you got the quest.

#4 umm i cant think of anything else

Is there any where else to get the Peridot. On my server (Carbuncle) in windurst, only one is for sale, and sale history ranks for 50K.

Wow, They only go for about 10k on my server. I recomend checking the Goldsmithing Guild in Bastok. I believe you can buy them there.

How do quests count? I mean a repeatable counts as 1/2 of a unique? for the same? 1/4?

I have about 27 or 28 different in Windurst but the fame bard tells me "There is not a soul in Windurst who hasn't heard about you" and I can't seem to increase it further. I've done over 130 repeatables just in Windurst.
Faction
# Dec 24 2003 at 3:37 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, from what it sounds like, there is a faction system in FFXI very similar to Everquest. The only exception is that you don't get faction messages, and you don't really have an easy way of checking it (except for going to the proper fame NPC).

All you need to do is raise your faction with the NPC who gives the quest. Apparently this is done by doing quests from any nation. Every time you complete a quest, your faction increases. That is, every time you hear that sound that plays when you finish a quest, you get a faction increase. This means that you could essentially do one quest over and over and over until you had enough faction (unless it has some kind of artificial faction increasing cap). The people who got this quest with less than 50 quests probably did some repeatable quests many times. Also, it is possible that depending on your race (and perhaps profession) that your starting faction here is different. Also, chances are very good that some quests give significantly more faction than others. And when you thought it was clear, what if there are quests that *reduce* faction in certain places?!

All these things are part of the Everquest faction system, and from the many posts I've seen, there is a similar system in FFXI, only you are not told exactly when and how much your faction goes up and down.

Although it seems to be popular for people to give fame as number of quests done, it is probably more accurate to state how many times you have heard the "quest completed" sound.

Um. Why are you comparing FFXI to EverQuest? They aren't the same game. Apples and oranges. Just because they're fruit doesn't mean you can explain one by knowing the other.
