Summary

The latest edition of the "Magic Paradise Weekly," which features the exclusive report on "Where the Cat Burglar Hides her Kitty," has been stolen. The editor asks that you help retrieve it.

Walkthrough

Talk to Naiko-Paneiko to start this quest, then head to Mhaura and take the boat to Selbina. Bring along a sturdy fishing pole and some Lugworms, Crayfish Balls, or a Sabiki Rig (or you can buy bait on the boat). Catch Ocean Crabs and kill them until one drops a Bronze Box.

Bring this back to Naiko-Paneiko to complete the quest and claim your reward.

You don't have to fish up the crab yourself. I was killing the ocean crabs other people were fishing up on the ferry and got the box. I haven't even activated the quest yet.
Fame Needed?

Perhaps a certain level of fame IS needed. I completed the prior quest, and zoned -- went outside Windurst several times in fact -- and every time I came back to talk to him he was always 'Work harder, work harder!' I only just started doing quests in Windurst, so my fame is probably fairly low. That's the only thing I can think of.

You need at -least- level 3 fame. I never got it with level 2, but after level 3 it was available.

No this quest cannot be repeated. If you bring back another box, he tells you to get that filthy thing out of here. So if you find another one of these boxes (they appear to drop regularly) just toss it back.

Can you toss stuff into water and how? I always fish up copper rings, and i always wonder how to toss them back in.

One other thing to keep in mind. As with most quests in windy (iritating as it is) if you are just speeding through the quests and cant get him to give you this quest after doing the previous one. You need to zone after finishing the previous one or he wolnt give you the next.

Best combo?

its not too difficult to pull up an ocean crab, even with 0 fishing skill. However, be careful at lower levels cuz you can pull up some nasty mobs.
cardians key

repeatable?
# Dec 10 2003 at 9:46 AM Rating: Decent
Is this quest repeatable? I got another bronze box today on my way to selbina, and haven't gotten back to windurst to try it yet
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 03 2003 at 10:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm tired of you people complaining about OBVIOUS NPC locations. To get this quest you had to do the original reporter quest. HMM, now where did you get that quest? OH YEAH, the housing district in Waters. Good lord, you might have to use some insight and/or LEARN the game rather than having everything handed to you step by step.
Something's Wrong

I finished the "Making Headlines" quest and zoned in and out many times, and yet Naiko won't give me this mission. Naiko just keeps saying work harder! work harder! Did I miss something?
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 30 2003 at 11:22 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Did you even bother to look around the area? Naiko is in one of the houses. Try looking instead around the area. The Canal Gate isnt 1 spot, it's an AREA.
Some tips
# Nov 28 2003 at 2:24 AM Rating: Default
Best way to complete this section of quest unless your a phenominal fisherman, is to hang out until someone who is catches an ocean crab on the boat between mihauru and salbinia (relative level 14-16 critter), the box is a pretty common drop... as far as the key in the cardians stomache quest i have no idea, could be faction related because no quest is actually given... much like baron's second quest it may require some deal of fame to actually get any clues on it... or again, could be a drop either in east or north towers off cardians...

I was a lvl 0 fisher, and I caught a sea crab. I was with my friends who were a lvl 16 war and a lvl 15 war, and after killing it we got the box on the first drop.

im a lvl 3 fisher.. and i caught a crab, you dont have to be 'a phenominal fisher'
Here is the update for this quest
# Nov 16 2003 at 4:34 PM Rating: Decent
You have to do the editors hatchetman quest first. This is the continuation of that quest. Once you talk to him and finish the editors quest, zone out and back in, then he tells you that the proof copy of the magazine was stolen. from there, you can just give him the bronze box, you dont have to talk to the cat burglar. Just give him the box. To get the box you take the boat from muhara to selbina and stay on the deck until someone reels in a crab, or do it yourself. then kill the crab and hope you get the box. The reward is 1500 gil...and the next quest...which i havent figured out...something about a key in the cardians stomach...anyone care to elaborate on that, go ahead, im all ears

Key in stomach? Just did the Knowing One's Onion quest and at the end they found a magic orb? seemed to describe some key item for cardians
RE: Here is the update for this quest
# Mar 03 2004 at 1:47 AM Rating: Good
The orb that one of the SOB's find is a Cardian Orb. It is used to activate a cardian.

You will find that in, yet another quest from the SOB's that it activates the Joker Cardian.

Where did you get this quest information?
Naiko doesn't say anything even closely related to fishing, boating, mhaura, or selbina.. She tells you to go get the stolen report back from the cat burgler..

?!?!

Her henchmen mention locking something in a box and throwing it into the ocean (and getting bitten in the process).
Naiko-Paneiko
# Nov 10 2003 at 9:44 PM Rating: Default
Naiko is located in Windurst Waters, lower-half section of the map, coords C/D-11/12 (which are invalid while in the upper-half of the map)

The area with the buildings (which Naiko is located in) is called Toraimarai Canal Gate, marked on the map.
