Mission Orders

Determine the state of affairs in San d'Oria and Bastok, and render assistance on behalf of Heavens Tower. Inquire at our consulate in each country for more information.
Traveling by ship from Mhaura to Selbina is recommended.

Walkthrough

This is a VERY long quest and is divided into TWO parts that will VARY depending on WHICH one city you visted first. I suggest completing either sub-job quest (The Old Lady from Vera in Mhaura or Elder Memories from Isacio in Selbina) before attempting this. Getting a Chocobo License and the maps to Palborough Mines/Ghelsba Outpost/Giddeus is advised. In addition, the maps to all the main cities are a good idea.

After talking to the Gate Guard talk to Kupipi in Heavens Tower. She will explain the mission. You might want to start the Rock Racketeer quest from Windurst before leaving town.

Bastok First

The Windurstian embassy is located at the top of Metalworks. Talk to the Ambassador Patt-Pott to receive this part of the mission.

Head to the President's office at (K-8) to talk to Pius and learn the importance of Mythril Sand to the beastmen. Lastly, meet up with Grohm in the Metalworks Craftsmen's Eatery where he will tell you the procedures and happenings in Palborough Mines and then give you 3 pickaxes. Before heading out, you might want to buy some more pickaxes from Boytz's Knickknacks at (H-7) in Bastok Mines. In additon, buy a Map of Palborough Mines from Karine in Bastok Markets or Rex in Port Bastok.

Head off to Palborough Mines via North Gustaburg at (K-3). After entering, go to (I-8) and use the elevator to get to the 3rd floor. Now head to (I-9) on the map. You'll find several spots called Mythril Seams where you can do some mining for the gravel. Trade the "pickaxe" to that spot. You may fail a few times, so keep trying until you get some Mine Gravel. This is the same spot for the Rock Racketeer quest. Note: this is very difficult if you do this solo at level 20, therefore it is recommended that you party with at least one other person.

After getting the item, go to the 2nd level. Head to the middle of the map at (I-6) by going around the right side of the map. You'll see a machine with a lid and a lever. Trade the mine gravel you got to the lid, then pull the lever.

Continue the path to the left side of the map, around and back to the area under the machine. You'll see a lever there too. Pull it and receive an item Mythril Sand. Go back to the embassy and trade that item to the Ambassador.

San d'Oria - The Dragon

In Northern San d'Oria head to the Consulate of Windurst. First of all talk to be the Ambassador. You will be told to talk to Halver in Chateau d'Oraguille. You will need a Ghelsba Outpost map. As well you might want to start The General's Secret quest from Curilla (Temple Knights' Quarters, Chateau d'Oraguille) since the water is right by the end of this mission. To prepare make sure you have a FULL party and you are ready to fight the dragon. If you have anyone over level 25 make sure they have under level 25 equipment since they will de-level for the boss.

Head to Fort Ghelsba and go all the way to the top. There are some huts, behind which is a tunnel leading into the mountains. (You can also get here from Yughott Grotto by hugging the wall to the left as soon as you enter Ghelsba). At Fort Ghelsba you need to head into one of the huts at (J-8) to get to the last area, Yughott Grotto. Once you enter the top of the mountains there are two exits -- one to the burning circle and the other to the springs, for The General's Secret quest.

Prepare yourself and enter the burning circle. There are two monsters: a floating eye called a Spotter and then the Dread Dragon. Don't bother with buffs since the dragon will remove them all in the first few seconds. Kill the floating eye first, then the dragon.

Once done you are sitting in the springs. Heal up and head back to the Consulate of Windurst and pick up your Adventurers Letter from Kasaroro.

Finally, battered but defiant, make your way back to Heavens Tower in Windurst and receive your well earned rewards.

Congratulations on RANK 3 and 3000 gil!

Update Notes

As of February 14th, 2011, there is no longer a level cap restriction on the mission battlefield.

Do the party members taken with you to the burning circle have to be doing the exact same mission and order of visiting the countries?

I get lots of takers, but they are on the mission but not from my country, or rank 3, or doing the mission yet.
If you'ld like to lend a hand to me, and you are on sylph, my character name is Xyphos.

thankyou for any help or information you can give in advance

Help defeating dragon
# Nov 06 2004 at 3:18 PM Rating: Decent
Okay I tried getting a group together at Sandy for the dragon but no one responding. From looking at this people say to go to the Grotto and you can get help there yet there's practically no one there.

Can anyone help me fight the dragon. I'm 20 WAR/10 MNK. I'm right by the entrance to Horlais Peak (where the burning circle is). I'm on the Ifrit Server. If anyone can help out it would be appreciated. I'll be on about 7 pm EST tonight. If you can help meet me there or send tell.
Windy Dragon

Please listen, there is no dragon that's easy or hard to fight, I've fought all of them probably about 8 or 9 times each, trying to help people, key is to take out the eye first. Don't try to sleep the dragon, normally it doesn't work very long anyway and certainly not long enough to kill the eye. The best strategy i've found is to find a pld *usually me* to charge in and voke the dragon, bringin the dragon towards him. also another very good person to have in this team is a dragoon. The rest of the party concentrates on the eye, and kills it *usually doesn't take that long*. then they beat the crap outta the dragon. Make sure your whm stays back, and cures, the pld will probably need one or two cure II's but other than that, if he's worth his mettle you won't have to. the dragon, won't take long to die with everyone beating on it. Hope this helps someone.

ok, i'm confused. I went to sandy first, and you have to kill a NM named Warchief Vatgit.

ok, killed him. went back... didn't happen... got to kill it again or something. neone know what to do for this if you go to Sandy first???? i'd like to know... do i have to kill the warchief guy myself, in a party or does it matter?
RE: sandy first...
# Oct 28 2004 at 6:07 AM Rating: Decent
Well, i thinki figured this one out myself...
NEways, talk to the windhurt consulate after defeating Warchief... fun... now on to Bastok

Limerick you have to pull a level on the top part too.Also I believe the missions alternate because my brother had no clue what the hell i had to do in the Bastok part, and on his mission list, his details are way off. If I manage to beat Sandorian mission Ill make some changes.

Ok, so I finally decided to get off my butt and do this mission. Spoke with everyone in Windy, went to Bastok first, got my pickaxes and even put on my mining clothes so I could mine while I was in Palborough Mines, found the Mythril Seam, got some gravel, went to the Refiner, put it in, on the 3rd floor, went down to 2nd floor, pulled the lever, and nothing???? I must have done this about 8 times. Is there something I'm missing?

At least I got two Marine Shields out of this whole ordeal, nothing like a little cash to calm the nerves.
o.O <- Confused
# Oct 12 2004 at 9:45 AM Rating: Default
Alright, i'm extremely confused. I had heard that mission 2-3 of windurst involved fighting a dragon, so i came online looking for advice, (btw, there's some very good advice for killing dragons here ^^)

However, sofar, i've completed the first half of this mission: I went to bastok first and got the mythril sand for my consulate.

I went to Sandy next and talked to my consul there, and they refered me to Halver {yep, all going according to the notes on this site}

>>Now this is where i get confused: I talked to Halver, and he says *nothing* about a dragon, only that the orcs have been showing signs of organization and that i should go explore yugott grotto.
~~~> I was wondering if the dragon was actually supposed to be a surprise for anyone not looking for information online ><;
>>>Thought that might be a good subject to bring up, because i havent' seen anything about that part of the quest in the forums<<<
This is a really simple question i haven't seen answered yet, so maybe it isn't so simple... I basically want to know if Sandy first or Bastok first is easier? Or are they pretty much of equal difficulty?
heh heh i just did this mission and beat the Ifrit record in a time of
2 minutes and 30 seconds
I also got the dragon slayer title.... mebbe that has something to do with the record?
If he really beat the dragon in 2:30, he's clearly not a n00b. Unless he used an alliance in which case he's a lucky jerk who's got an awesome Linkshell.
/em shakes his fist at this, Record Holder.
Also, grow some balls, Mr. Anonymous. I bet you're the first guy to suggest zoning.
As others have mentioned, K-9 is not even an accessible area of the map once you take the elevator to the second floor of Palborough Mines. The grid you really want is I-9; you'll see a "Mythril Seam" in the room on the east side of this block. I got this info from a comment on the "Rock Racketeer" quest page, and mined it up easily.
This is also a good spot to hunt for one of the Kazham keys, and I recommend doing that at the same time. Note that teaming up with 1 or 2 more people (at least at level 25) will make it much easier to kill the required enemies (who are in the way anyhow, and will aggro you). Two level 25 THFs did OK, especially since the other THF had WAR subbed.
My party went to kill the Dread Dragon and his helper Spotter in the mission 2-3 “The Three Kingdoms”. We did it in 7 mins and 6 sec.(that was not the record which is 3 mins ?? sec) No one die! Our party had one 25War/12Mnk and one 25Whm/12Blm. Yes; you read right only 2! Why you ask. Well, for four reasons: 1) No one wanted or could help us, 2) Someone in town, (San) said he was easy to kill, 3) Spotter was lvl 23 and Dread Dragon was lvl 25, which was the lvl of mobs we was killing to get our weapons to lvl 70 and 4) Xodd and I have been together since day one, know each other strengths and weakness, and the night before we work out our skillchain combos, So Xodd said let try and do it. If we die, we just come back with more players. After the cut scene, Xodd rush in and started attacking, provoking, and all his other type of things that a War does on Spotter, I stand back out of the circle and put slow and paralyze on the dragon. The dragon of course went after me, I ran to my War! The Dragon was so slow that Spotter was almost dead before the dragon could walk in the circle and attack us. Xodd had used his 2hr ability and I did not have to.. After they were both die, I had 39 Mp left and we both had 75% of our HP
