Mission Orders

Capture the three magicites in Davoi, Beadeaux, and Castle Oztroja to prevent the Shadow Lord's return.

Walkthrough

This mission may need an alliance and or high level assistance. This mission can take up to several hours, depending on your setup!

Jeuno

Head to Ru'Lude Gardens and talk to your Ambassador. He will then give you a key item to obtain an audience with the Archduke of Jeuno. After the cutscene, you need to obtain key items to gain access to the strongholds of the beastmen.

Take the letter the Duke gave you and present it to Aldo of the Tenshodo inside Neptune's Spire in Lower Jeuno. If you are not a member of the Tenshodo you must become one before you can continue this mission. Either complete the quest for membership or buy a scroll from the Auction House. After a cutscene you will obtain a Silver Bell as one of the three for access to the Magicite in Beadeaux. Then, talk to Sattal-Mansal and he will tell you to bring him a Quadav Charm and a Quadav Augury Shell so that he can give you the last two key items needed for Beadeaux -- Key Items, Coruscant Rosary and Black Matinee Necklace.

Now, either fight Coeurls in Meriphataud Mountains for Coeurl Meat or buy a piece from the Auction House. Head to Upper Jeuno and talk to Baudin, who is next to a house across from the Chocobo Stables. Once the cutscene is over, trade him the meat and you will receive Davoi Charm.

Finally, just walk between the Armor and Weapon shops and talk to Paya-Sabya. After the cutscene, head to Muckvix's Junk Store in Lower Jeuno and talk to Muckvix in the back room. After a cutscene, you will receive a Yagudo Torch.

Now, it's time to head out.

Davoi

This one is quick and simple, but you may have to fight an Orcish Trooper or Orcish Gladiator at the Wall of Dark Arts. Once you enter Davoi, turn right, take top route to G-7, go to the southernmost point. You'll see the Wall of Dark Arts immediately.

Activate the wall, by clicking on it, pass through, and enter Monastic Cavern. There are no monsters in here, so just follow this to the hollowed out bone wall, click the Magicite, and watch the cutscene. Once everyone is done with that and received Magicite: Optistone, warp back to Jeuno.

Castle Oztroja

Castle Oztroja will either be the longest or second longest task of the mission, because even to level 40+ everything will aggro halfway through, and the Yagudo appear in groups of three and four.

When you enter the castle, head to the door at (I-8). Have everyone stand back and away from the door. Send a Black Mage to test the levers, as if he triggers the trapdoor he can just Escape and come back. The lever combination changes with every game day, so just have one member try them. If the Black Mage is successful, then let him trigger the lever and have everyone else run inside the door.

Once inside, head to the right and up the stairs. You come to an intersection at (I-8) and need to head right. Follow this all the way straight and don't take the right turn at (I-7). Follow this until you come to another intersection, which is also on the second floor of the castle. DO NOT DROP DOWN, as you CAN fall. If you do, you have to start this all over again. Stay near the edge of the walls, and take the tunnel at (G-8), which will eventually lead you to an outside court at (G-7).

Again, you will be on an overpass and DON'T FALL DOWN. Go right and take the tunnel at (I-7). Once you enter the tunnel it's pretty straightforward. Head up the stairs, then down, and follow them until you reach an intersection. You're now heading into the lower depths of Castle Oztroja, where Yagudo Lutenists, Priors, Zealots, and Conquistadors are here, plentiful, and in groups of 2 - 4. If you're in an alliance of 35+ or even 40+, you will have to fight, so prepare yourselves.

Once you reach the intersection at (H-8), head right. Follow this through the bend, and go straight, ignoring the left turn at (G-9), and ignoring the left turn again at (G-9) when you follow the bend (if you look at the map, you'll see it's just a loop anyway). Follow this straight and you'll eventually come to the torch door -- this is what your Key Item: Yagudo Torch is for. Activate one of the two torches and wait for all members to appear on the other side.

Kill the few Yagudo here, and head right at the intersection at (H-10). Open the door, and enter the Altar Room. There's nothing in here, so just follow this to the hollowed out bone wall. Activate the Magicite, and watch the cutscene. Once everyone is done with that and received Magicite: Orustone, warp back to Jeuno.

Beadeaux

This part of the mission is actually easy to complete, but you have to make two trips. The first trip deals with killing the two named Quadav (not Notorious Monsters) and getting enough drops for everyone. This can be either quick, or time consuming, depending on the size of the alliance.

Enter Beadeaux, go straight, and head left at the intersection at (F-7). Follow the bed and go straight, ignoring the open area to the right. Follow the bend and head sound into the tunnel at (H-7). The Land Pugils aggro here, so you may need to kill them for anyone in the the 30s.

Once in the tunnel, follow the winding path down until you reach an intersection at (H-7). Left is the way to the Qulun Dome, and the Magicite. However, you only have one of the three key items needed to open the door, so we need to go right. Follow this path until you come to an intersection, and head right at (G-7), for left is The Afflictor, which will *curse* you. You have to be silenced by The Muter, to not be cursed when walking past The Afflictor. You'll see The Muter and you need to click on it and *activate* it to become muted.

We had a White Mage that had Silena and Cursna, so she didn't get muted, but had everyone else do so. They went ahead and killed all the Quadav in the room of The Afflictor at (G-8), while she just allowed herself to be cursed. She uncursed herself, and cast Silena on the other mages. We let her rest up, and just went on with our business.

Once past the machines, follow the tunnel and ignore the right turn at (F-7) and follow the tunnel out into the above. Follow the tunnel until you come to another Muter machine. Now, here's how you get onto the top platform and avoid the machines. You need to go *clockwise* around this entire area. On other words you need to go from (F-9) east, then southeast to (H-9). Go from here southwest to (H-10), then west and then southwest to (F-10) (the afflicter machines should be *out* of your vision or *north* of you), and finally go west and then north to (E-10) to the little incline leading up onto the above ledges.

You need to follow the southern ridge of this (DON'T FALL OFF!) until you get to (J-9). There will be a little doorway pass with some torches nearby. This is where De'Vyu Headhunter spawns, and depending on your alliance you may have to fight him numerous times. He usually drops 3 Quadav Charms, but since we had two alliances he did drop 2 and then 4 once. However, 3 seems to be the median. His respawn time seems to be just about 15 minutes even, as we timed it when we had to kill him 8 times.

After every person has a charm, let's head back north to the starting area, but STAY ON THE LEDGE. You need to follow the ridge again until you get to (F-6), which is right by the entrance. At (F-6), near the two huts on the ledge, is where Go'Bhu Gascon will spawn. He drops the Quadav Augury Shell, the last of the two items needed, and like De'Vyu Headhunter, he drops a median of 3 shells per fight. His respawn time seems to be just about 15 minutes as well.

Once everyone has a Quadav Charm and a Quadav Augury Shell, head back to Jeuno. Enter the Neptune's Spire again and trade the items *ONE at a time* to Sattal-Mansa. For some reason, if you trade him both at the same time (this happened to one of our members), he gives you the key item for the first item put in. He also takes the second item, but doesn't give you credit for it, so you'll have to go back to fight one of the two named Quadav to get another one.

After everyone has their two key items, head back to Beadeaux. Head to the the Qulun Dome as mentioned above. There's nothing in here, so just follow this to the hollowed out bone wall. Activate the Magicite, and watch the cutscene. Once everyone is done with that and received Magicite: Aurastone, warp back to Jeuno.

Jeuno

Head back to the Archduke and a cutscene will play. He will give you your airship pass! Then, head to your embassy and talk to the person behind the counter. You will then be recognized as having achieved Rank 5 and will be awarded 10,000gil as well! The assistant to the ambassador will then order you home.

If you already have an airship pass (for whatever reason), the Duke will give you an additional 20,000 gil, in addition to the 10,000 gil you receive from the embassy.

I took two people from my LS through this mission the other day. I was on my 47 WHM, one was a 44 RDM, the other was a 37 BLM.

In Oztroja, we had to keep everyone Invised and the BLM Sneaked so we didn't aggro Yagudo or bats. At the end, when you light the torches, I pulled all the aggro from the room, lit the torches quickly, and we all made a dash for the door to the Altar Room. Elapsed time: 25 minutes.

I picked up Cursna, and it was off to Beadeaux. In Beadeaux, we kept sneak up and followed the directions shown here (I already knew to follow the directions backwards from getting myself rank 5 a week ago). We had to kill each named Quadav twice, since they both only dropped one item the first kill. Second kills we got one charm, and three augury shells. Sucks, I wanted a charm so I could get the map :( The fights weren't really difficult, but we did have to be careful. Luckily Quads don't have anything super-lethal that they use, especially these wussy Quads :) - Elapsed time: 30 minutes.

Davoi is so stupid-easy, San d'Oria sure got jacked on the Magicite mission. I did die at the end when I pulled a train of all the tier3 orcs because I got lazy. Elapsed time: 5 minutes.

Total time: 60 minutes.

Add time to going back to Jeuno to get the Beadeaux items.. I didn't go back for that, but after teleporting/chocoing, it's probably another 10-15 minutes.

I can definately see how it would be an 8 hour mission if you fought your way through everything, but take my advice and don't worry about rank 5 until you're level 40. Unless you have high level help of course!

The problem with those directions is most people aren't going to have a map of this place.. They have to follow your directions by how you've described them here, which makes it very confusing.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 20 2004 at 9:52 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) No, it's not confusing. If someone doesn't buy a map, then it's his own damn fault. You're a moron if you don't try to get every map that you can in this game.

I just finished the mission tonight... I had one lvl 60 player BRD/WHM help me through the whole thing. I died only once because I couldn'y get my midget taru body to light the torch... but I died after entering so all was well and he raised me. It is possible to do it with only one help without any problems whatsoever. Oh I was lvl 30BLM/8SMN when I did this

OMG I soloed Davoi and Beadeaux last night and I had help on Oztroja, this mission is MUCH easier than it seems! At lvl 46 all you need is invis and you can go straight through Oztroja w/ no problem! In Davoi I needed Sneak & Invis but that was so short anyways, took like 5 minutes from the entrance to the magicite. In Beadeaux I only came across ONE easy prey, and so I used a sneak potion and invis, but that was the only instance. Man I can't believe I was rank 4 for so long, this mission was so freakin easy once you already have the key items! If you're level 46+ then getting the magicites can all be done solo!

I'm having trouble with getting the torches lit in Oztroja.

Wait for the 2 Yag's that hang out there (Even match to me at 46, not even gonna try to solo them) to turn away from the door, drop invis, target the torches . . .

Cannot see target. From like 3 different positions. Grrrr. I managed to get it open once, but I have no idea where exactly I was standing. Of course, by the time I found the spot, I had both Yagudo's on me, and managed to run to the brass door (such a nice train), but I couldn't enter for some reason. Probably all the aggro I had, or maybe I was dead when I entered. Ah well.

I soloed Davoi and Oztroja today after a lot of work.. First I took a wrong turn in Davoi and got aggro'd by lizards, then I got the magicite.. In Oztroja I ran off in the wrong direction, but with the help of another adventurer I found the right way to go.. At level 45 none of the bats were Easy prey so I didn't have to worry about sneak.. I took another wrong turn deeper in and encountered some Jellys in a pond, but I didn't go near them.. Doing Beadeaux soon with a 59 RDM friend so that shouldn';t be too hard.

Probably could solo the first two (davoi and oztroja) if you have a couple of Prism Powders, but being able to cast invis is so much easier.

...I think the min. lvl is just in ref. of what it might take to complete without help of high lvls...

Did this last night as lvl 47 Dark Knight
---Party/Alliance consisted of lvl 43rdm, 39pld, 34rdm,33blm,32whm,35war,27thf

SNEAK AND INVIS..ARE A MUST...I didn't draw any aggro but everyone in the 30's did even 39pld...especially in Castle Oztrajo....we ended up with a train of 20 or so Yagudo Oracles...and had a nice 5 minute battle....I have to say that was extremely fun....

Davoi is extemely simple....zone in take a right....1st right again...follow the path...if you have low lvls cast sneak and invis at the bridge....run up and take 1st left....cancel invis and enter the wall of Dark Arts...from here there is nothing but the cutscene to look forward too...

Castle Oztrajo....this one took us 2 attempts...1st attempt we all got slaughtered at the stairs to the 2nd floor....when you reach the top of the stairs cast sneak/invis/&Deoderize(if you have lower lvls...bats aggro on scent)...once done take a right and follow the path till you reach the dead end and can only go right or left...go right....follow the path till you are outside....make a right..and haul it to the doorway straight ahead...from here it is very simple even if you need to fight...basically follow the path down until you come to the doors...kill the 2 yags there and light the torch...from here nothing to fight....enter 2nd set of doors and follow path to magicite...

Beadeaux.....the directions here were great...the only thing that sucked was waiting for the NM to spawn....1st time we killed it...one dropped....2nd time 4 dropped...3rd time 4 dropped....as for the head hunter...1st drop was 1...2nd was 2...and 3rd drop was 3......

be prepared to use conquest points...or have a high enough blm to warp 2 the pt.....

total time 3.5 hours (including 2 attempts at davoi and 2 attempts at Castle Oztrajo & including lots of fighting).....(SNEAK AND INVIS A MUST)

Wow, that is a great (and very, VERY short) Rank 4 mission guide... As of now I'm a PLD 40/WAR 20, and I look forward to completing this mission with my friend Oritsuru ( BRD 31/ RDM 15 ) after he gets to lvl 40... I've retrieved the Davoi Magicite, Orit died going through the wall since he wasn't careful... That gave me the sign that he wasn't ready yet... Spoony Bard.

This goes for (almost) the entire set of quests and mission, everywhere:

The listed min lvl is the generally accepted minimum lvl for an individual to complete the mission (usually not solo, usually in a full party, sometimes even alliance). Most quests (in this case, mission) don't have true lvl limits. Instead, there are fame limits (or mission / rank limits) which CORRELATE, but are not FIXED to lvl. A lvl 10 /can/ have lvl 9 fame, or rank 4, but only with high lvl help etc...

There are relatively few exceptions to this (subjob quest @18, chocobo @20, Advjob @30, genkai @ 50 (55, 60 etc..).

Thus, even though it says "min lvl 35," you can still /get/ the mission earlier than that (and complete it too, but pretty much only with high lvl help).

Castle Oztrajo Hiding Points

Sigh. Okay, I thought I found a really simple way to the Magicite, but it turns out to only have lead to a 10' wall I couldn't climb -- my bad.

To make up for it, here are some handy hiding points for the solo White Mage!

1) Just past the lever door - you can do Sneak and Invis on the far side of it safely, just don't try healing; the Yagudo will come through the closed door after you.

2) At the ledge of the 2nd floor balcony 'round the courtyard; if you head straight and to the left as you come out there's a little bit of ledge hanging out all by itself. A great place to heal up and gather together -- Yagudo don't usually wander all the way to the end, and you can definetely see them coming.

3) The Endless Stairwell; there are a couple of spots there where you can camp that are between Yagudo; It's a tight fit, but doable.

4) The Final Square; when roaming around the basement level, consider that the little halls interconnecting the different parts of the square are usually out of the range of Yagudo, and thus suitable for Sneak and Invis. Just watch for bats.

Other handy tips; consider taking a THF, SMN, BST, or RNG subjob on this one; it reports where the enemies are on your radar, thus making your life significantly easier when trying to determine if something's hiding around the corner or not.

Reraise is your friend.

Good luck!

Did this last night as a 36thf/10nin, and had a 41whm/1bst (Not sure why he subbed bst) with me. We had a 48DRG and a 36BRD with us for the Oztroja part, and we got HORRIBLY lost. x.x

Also, after obtaining the magicite, the DRG accidentally started a train, and when he finally died, it was about 4 screens long. Me and the BRD died pretty soon after. =/

Davoi was fairly easy, random level 60+ THF decided to show us the way, and Bead was really easy. Somehow managed to steal what I need for my AF1 accidentally. x.x

Whouuhouu yessssss! Finally I can fly everywhere. I will save so much time now. Let me share my experiance.

Davoi

Quite easy you just need Invisible, "Sneak and Deodorize" was free for me since I have sub level 20 White mage now. I knew the way from a previous mission. You just past the NPC after the bridge turn left at G7 (South). Once you get there, there are 2 Orc be careful the wall is there you have to remove your Invisible, sneak and select the wall it will open. If Orcs aggro you just run in there and you zone into an area without any mob. Then follow the path and hit the Magicite. Cutscene then warp back or walk back :).

Castle Oztrajo

I got there with the map of course, and I got lucky got a high level white mage over 50 and he brought me to the right place. Once you hit the lever yes there is a trap he manage to not fall... I don't know how he did it looked to me he was just walking back quickly... Anyway after a couple of attempts no trap so I followed...

After a long walk, finally got to the "Door" with the Torch man there I thought that was the end. I did not get this part I was trying to hit the Torch, the door, the other Torch nothing wasworking... crap what is wrong then the guy said "Hurry" yes I am trying finally it worked. But then I was on my own. Was not too bad there Had to avoid a couple more mobs with Sneak, Invisible again once I got to the door opened then enter to the last area without mob great!!!! Hit the Magicite again. Cutscene warp back or walk back.

I am cheap with Warp I always walk back. The guy had to go and I had to get out of there by myself. At this point I did not care was willing to die. But I gave it a shot I will try to get out of here... :)... Was not quite sure of the way out... Anyway finally half way out I recognize the area ... but Sneak was wearing off and it was hard to cast too many mobs around and was very stress at this point. I got aggro by some bats... TIME to run... I got a huge train lol... MADE it out !! Whouhouuuuhh!!!!

Last part now.

Again got helped in there yesssss. With a full party of over 50... most were anon so I can't tell what it was.

I will make this one short... the guys fought for me and 2 other guys and they got the 2 items for us... Man I am happy Thanked them MANY times for the help.

Last part time consuming, walked ALL the way back to Jeuno, then took choco to return again to Beaudeaux most of the stuff worthile to finish last part :)... but guess what this time did not feel like walking BACK again... got myself a Warp.

Finish the mission and got Rank 5 ! DONE!!!!! finally.

Job level is wrong...

I was able to do this mission as RDM30, and a friend of mine was a THF30. SO Level limit is lowered at least to 30. NOTE: You will need a much higher level to aid you in this mission if you care to try at level 30.

Just got finished with this, and wanted to make some VERY minor corrections on an otherwise EXCELLENT guide.

Davoi:
>>right, and head into the tunnel going north at (I-7). Follow this straight until you get to the intersection at (G-7).<< Just to clarify this, once you head into the tunnel going north, take your first left, THEN head straight until the intersection at (G-7), and take another left. In fact, all of the directional changes can be condensed to: Zone in, take first right, take first right, take first left, take first left.

Castle Oztrajo:
The directions were quite on-the-mark here, but to make one thing clear (for those who aren't windurst residents): the door for the "To Each His Own Right" mission is at J-8 on the first map inside the castle. Do beware of the trapped door.

Beadeaux:
>> Once in the tunnel, follow the winding path down until you reach an intersection at (H-7). *RIGHT* is the way to the Qulun Dome, and the Magicite. However, you only have one of the three key items needed to open the door, so we need to go *LEFT*.<< This is in fact reversed. LEFT is the way to the Dome, RIGHT is the way to the machines (and the rest of Beadeaux).

Otherwise, a wonderful walkthrough, thank you to whomever put it together.

A few notes on when I did it. Was a 45/20 mnk/war along with a 49/23 whm/blm. Davoi was no problem (had to invis me past a few easy mobs to avoid having to whack them). The wall does have an orc guarding it, but you can zone in before he kills you.

Beadeaux was also not too bad. At my lvl about 1/2 of the higher lvl mobs (some Zircons, Silvers and Bronzes) were easy to me. However, as stated in the guide, quadavs are generally slow, so I didn't need invis/sneak. Lower lvl alliances though will either have to conscientiously keep sneak/invis up, or burn their way through a bunch of mobs. Of the two named mobs, De'Vyu Headhunter is the harder - he had the whm down to 250MP, and me down to 700HP, but didn't pose a true threat. For lower lvl alliances, the real problem would be linked quadavs, as there are often several within near-linking space of each other.

Castle Oztrajo was fairly straightforward. Sneak/invis about halfway in for me (whole way for ~35ish). Once you pass the courtyard, and enter the lower tunnels, do be careful. Either invis in a small enough group that you can renew it safely, or have a strong enough alliance to take out Zealots etc.. There sometimes isn't enough space in between mobs to really stop safely for more than a few seconds without invis. There always seems to be a "Prior" (T to me at lvl 45) both in front AND on the other side of the torch door. Either slaughter them carefully, or do as we did and run like maniacs. Note that the torch door is rather tough to target (it's sometimes easy to accidentally target the torch on the *other* side of the door, which you can't use, obviously).

Good luck to all, and thanks for the great guide.

Me (42 rdm/whm), a level 42 blm/whm, and a 47whm/blm did this whole mission in 4 hours and 5 minutes. We actually had the most trouble in Davoi because it was our first stage and we had trouble finding where the hell we were going. I actually got killed. Overall I think we had to escape two or three times. Becareful there because even the level 47whm was getting aggro.

For the other two parts a level 60 ranger from our LS helped us out ;). She helped me with mission 4-3 also. I recommend having a level 60 ranger no matter what pre-level 60 quest you're doing because those 1200 hp weapons skills come in handy, hehe.

Not that I'm doubting you, but how exactly did you pull that off? What with all the mobs that should've aggroed you, I imagine you probably used items like the mage that posted just before you, yes?

I had a few problems with FFXI while doing this mission. First magicite I got was in Beadeaux, and halfway through the cut scene Play Online died; it was gone completely and I was back in windows. I started it back up, checked for a key item magicite and didn't have it, so I touched the magicite again, this time making it all the way through the cut scene. Next I did Davoi, and had the exact same experience here; booted to Windows first time, no trouble second time. At Castle Oztroja I made it through the cut scene just fine. Back at Jeuno I talked to the Archduke without any trouble, and went back to the Windurstian Embassy. I opened the door and it was gone. There was no floor, no counter, no people, it was all sky. I tried to enter but couldn't, so I zoned and came back to a normal embassy.

I'm not sure what exactly caused this problem, I'm running Windows XP on an AMD Athlon XP 1100, with a GeForce FX 5200 Video Card. It could be the same bug that causes me to lock up when tabbing on/off mining points and logging points sometimes.
Too easy!

It's not as hard as they say here... I did it all as a WHM 39 with a DRG 41.

Davoi: sneak + invisible after the bridge, then get to the door... get rid of invisible, open the door and just run while the 2 orcs will try to hit you. Zone to the Magicite area. Done.

Caztle Oztroja: sneak + invisible. That was the hardest one... we got stuck resting in narrow corners several times... the mobs aggroed us lots of time, too. We even died once (5 mobs on us... if they're 1 or 2 at this level you can do it, except for the last part)... but I had reraise on me. It's all about patience. Same as Davoi when you reach the door. Get rid of invisible, open the door and run. The zone isn't far.

Beadeaux: actually I can't say much of this one. After you get the 2 items and get back to Jeuno to exchange 'em with the key items... you don't even need sneak + invisible. Just go to the Magicite area. Still, we didn't fight the 2 named monsters... a hi-lvl offered to do it in our place, so I don't know if they are that hard. I don't think so, anyway... one of 'em is lvl 41-42... so you can get rid of him without problems if you are 2-3 ppl of the same level... the other one is 45... an IT, but not impossible... a full pt will do it... or just get help from some hi-lvl like we did. :P

I had an Issue Getting the Archducal Audience Permit. To fix this, I Traded 7 Stacks of Earth Crystals to Morlepiche in Ru'Lude.

Thanks to this Thread. And never under estimate the Power of Trading Crap :-)

i soloed this mission with my war50/whm25

most of the mobs around was NOT WORTHWHILE, but i used sneak/invis (pwr of whm) where mobs was EP's.

i only had to fight these 2 named quadavs in Beadeaux. But they was EP's so it wasnt that hard. Got my tp 300% before i pulled them away from other quadavs.

i wonder what else can i solo ^^

EDIT: fixed an typo

Decided to do the Oztroja-part solo as a lvl38thf/nin last evening coz I was a bit bored and wanted to do at least a part of the mission on my own..

Think it's a time-saver if you decide to solo this part as you don't run the risk of a member of the pt losing sneak etc and aggro'ing the birds that roam there making you have to fight.
