Mission Orders

Capture the three magicites in Davoi, Beadeaux, and Castle Oztroja to prevent the Shadow Lord's return.

Walkthrough

This mission may need an alliance and or high level assistance. This mission can take up to several hours, depending on your setup!

Jeuno

Head to Ru'Lude Gardens and talk to your Ambassador. He will then give you a key item to obtain an audience with the Archduke of Jeuno. After the cutscene, you need to obtain key items to gain access to the strongholds of the beastmen.

Take the letter the Duke gave you and present it to Aldo of the Tenshodo inside Neptune's Spire in Lower Jeuno. If you are not a member of the Tenshodo you must become one before you can continue this mission. Either complete the quest for membership or buy a scroll from the Auction House. After a cutscene you will obtain a Silver Bell as one of the three for access to the Magicite in Beadeaux. Then, talk to Sattal-Mansal and he will tell you to bring him a Quadav Charm and a Quadav Augury Shell so that he can give you the last two key items needed for Beadeaux -- Key Items, Coruscant Rosary and Black Matinee Necklace.

Now, either fight Coeurls in Meriphataud Mountains for Coeurl Meat or buy a piece from the Auction House. Head to Upper Jeuno and talk to Baudin, who is next to a house across from the Chocobo Stables. Once the cutscene is over, trade him the meat and you will receive Davoi Charm.

Finally, just walk between the Armor and Weapon shops and talk to Paya-Sabya. After the cutscene, head to Muckvix's Junk Store in Lower Jeuno and talk to Muckvix in the back room. After a cutscene, you will receive a Yagudo Torch.

Now, it's time to head out.

Davoi

This one is quick and simple, but you may have to fight an Orcish Trooper or Orcish Gladiator at the Wall of Dark Arts. Once you enter Davoi, turn right, take top route to G-7, go to the southernmost point. You'll see the Wall of Dark Arts immediately.

Activate the wall, by clicking on it, pass through, and enter Monastic Cavern. There are no monsters in here, so just follow this to the hollowed out bone wall, click the Magicite, and watch the cutscene. Once everyone is done with that and received Magicite: Optistone, warp back to Jeuno.

Castle Oztroja

Castle Oztroja will either be the longest or second longest task of the mission, because even to level 40+ everything will aggro halfway through, and the Yagudo appear in groups of three and four.

When you enter the castle, head to the door at (I-8). Have everyone stand back and away from the door. Send a Black Mage to test the levers, as if he triggers the trapdoor he can just Escape and come back. The lever combination changes with every game day, so just have one member try them. If the Black Mage is successful, then let him trigger the lever and have everyone else run inside the door.

Once inside, head to the right and up the stairs. You come to an intersection at (I-8) and need to head right. Follow this all the way straight and don't take the right turn at (I-7). Follow this until you come to another intersection, which is also on the second floor of the castle. DO NOT DROP DOWN, as you CAN fall. If you do, you have to start this all over again. Stay near the edge of the walls, and take the tunnel at (G-8), which will eventually lead you to an outside court at (G-7).

Again, you will be on an overpass and DON'T FALL DOWN. Go right and take the tunnel at (I-7). Once you enter the tunnel it's pretty straightforward. Head up the stairs, then down, and follow them until you reach an intersection. You're now heading into the lower depths of Castle Oztroja, where Yagudo Lutenists, Priors, Zealots, and Conquistadors are here, plentiful, and in groups of 2 - 4. If you're in an alliance of 35+ or even 40+, you will have to fight, so prepare yourselves.

Once you reach the intersection at (H-8), head right. Follow this through the bend, and go straight, ignoring the left turn at (G-9), and ignoring the left turn again at (G-9) when you follow the bend (if you look at the map, you'll see it's just a loop anyway). Follow this straight and you'll eventually come to the torch door -- this is what your Key Item: Yagudo Torch is for. Activate one of the two torches and wait for all members to appear on the other side.

Kill the few Yagudo here, and head right at the intersection at (H-10). Open the door, and enter the Altar Room. There's nothing in here, so just follow this to the hollowed out bone wall. Activate the Magicite, and watch the cutscene. Once everyone is done with that and received Magicite: Orustone, warp back to Jeuno.

Beadeaux

This part of the mission is actually easy to complete, but you have to make two trips. The first trip deals with killing the two named Quadav (not Notorious Monsters) and getting enough drops for everyone. This can be either quick, or time consuming, depending on the size of the alliance.

Enter Beadeaux, go straight, and head left at the intersection at (F-7). Follow the bed and go straight, ignoring the open area to the right. Follow the bend and head sound into the tunnel at (H-7). The Land Pugils aggro here, so you may need to kill them for anyone in the the 30s.

Once in the tunnel, follow the winding path down until you reach an intersection at (H-7). Left is the way to the Qulun Dome, and the Magicite. However, you only have one of the three key items needed to open the door, so we need to go right. Follow this path until you come to an intersection, and head right at (G-7), for left is The Afflictor, which will *curse* you. You have to be silenced by The Muter, to not be cursed when walking past The Afflictor. You'll see The Muter and you need to click on it and *activate* it to become muted.

We had a White Mage that had Silena and Cursna, so she didn't get muted, but had everyone else do so. They went ahead and killed all the Quadav in the room of The Afflictor at (G-8), while she just allowed herself to be cursed. She uncursed herself, and cast Silena on the other mages. We let her rest up, and just went on with our business.

Once past the machines, follow the tunnel and ignore the right turn at (F-7) and follow the tunnel out into the above. Follow the tunnel until you come to another Muter machine. Now, here's how you get onto the top platform and avoid the machines. You need to go *clockwise* around this entire area. On other words you need to go from (F-9) east, then southeast to (H-9). Go from here southwest to (H-10), then west and then southwest to (F-10) (the afflicter machines should be *out* of your vision or *north* of you), and finally go west and then north to (E-10) to the little incline leading up onto the above ledges.

You need to follow the southern ridge of this (DON'T FALL OFF!) until you get to (J-9). There will be a little doorway pass with some torches nearby. This is where De'Vyu Headhunter spawns, and depending on your alliance you may have to fight him numerous times. He usually drops 3 Quadav Charms, but since we had two alliances he did drop 2 and then 4 once. However, 3 seems to be the median. His respawn time seems to be just about 15 minutes even, as we timed it when we had to kill him 8 times.

After every person has a charm, let's head back north to the starting area, but STAY ON THE LEDGE. You need to follow the ridge again until you get to (F-6), which is right by the entrance. At (F-6), near the two huts on the ledge, is where Go'Bhu Gascon will spawn. He drops the Quadav Augury Shell, the last of the two items needed, and like De'Vyu Headhunter, he drops a median of 3 shells per fight. His respawn time seems to be just about 15 minutes as well.

Once everyone has a Quadav Charm and a Quadav Augury Shell, head back to Jeuno. Enter the Neptune's Spire again and trade the items *ONE at a time* to Sattal-Mansa. For some reason, if you trade him both at the same time (this happened to one of our members), he gives you the key item for the first item put in. He also takes the second item, but doesn't give you credit for it, so you'll have to go back to fight one of the two named Quadav to get another one.

After everyone has their two key items, head back to Beadeaux. Head to the the Qulun Dome as mentioned above. There's nothing in here, so just follow this to the hollowed out bone wall. Activate the Magicite, and watch the cutscene. Once everyone is done with that and received Magicite: Aurastone, warp back to Jeuno.

Jeuno

Head back to the Archduke and a cutscene will play. He will give you your airship pass! Then, head to your embassy and talk to the person behind the counter. You will then be recognized as having achieved Rank 5 and will be awarded 10,000gil as well! The assistant to the ambassador will then order you home.

If you already have an airship pass (for whatever reason), the Duke will give you an additional 20,000 gil, in addition to the 10,000 gil you receive from the embassy.

Few small details

Just to clear up the directions for Beadeaux because the last person seemed a bit confused, always take the leftmost path. It will curve right a bit, but keep to the left. If I remember Casle Oztroja correctly after the torch door is a brass door that you just need to target to open, and then into the zone with the magicite. Davoi had a "Wall of Dark Magic" (not 100% sure about the name) that you had to select to get by and then into the zone with the magicite.
Just for the sake of completeness, the names of the 3 keys items you recieve by touching the magicite are;
Magicite: Optistone from Davoi
Magicite: Aurastone from Beadeaux
Magicite: Orustone fom Castle Oztroja

Other people have posted that they got the 3 magicites just fine soloing. I tried last night, and the only area that can be solo'd safely is Beadeaux, if you already have the 2 NM drops.

I got lost on the way to the Beadeaux magicite location, do to vague directions listed here ("go left all the way", wtf?). Yes, take the left path once you enter Beadeaux. The path should eventually turn back right and go through a long tunnel. Yes, I believe it is a left at the fork you come to down here. You will eventually zone to the Qulin Dome (all 3 locations require zoning, which are void of any monsters, up to the magicite anyway). I found this zone on my first try, but didn't believe I was in the right area, so I went back and got myself lost. I eventually found a high level Japanese player near by that spoke some english to show me the right area. BTW, you only need sneak down here.

Everyone says Davoi is easy. The person that helped me in Beadeaux turned out to be a lvl 68 white mage (was anon when I asked), so he volunteered to help me finish the rest of the areas. He forgot about the aggressive bats (agro sound) in the area, and told me I would only need invis, since the orcs only agro sight. I could have safely made it through had the bats not agro'd me. At least my guide could raise me.

Castle O. was probably the most dangerous and longest of the 3. Again, both sneak (bats) and invis (yagudo) to get through here. We got to the torch area easily enough, but I kept having trouble lighting the stupid torch. Kept saying I couldn't reach it, even though I was standing right next to it. I found the only way I could light the silly thing was to stand directly between the torch stands (similar to the door levers). By the time I figured this out, the yagudos in the area became aware of me. Even though you can't just walk through the door without activating it, they *can* and will, so don't rest here if you can help it. Once past the door, there will be a set of ordinary bronze doors that you will have to pass through to zone to the room with the magicite. The area between the torch lighting and the bronze doors to zone is packed with yagudos, so just be prepared.

Really, I don't recommend soloing this mission. Yes, it is possible, but it's also *very* dangerous, due to all of the door openings necessary.

Have done two parts so far. Castle O in a 2 party alliance. Confusing without a map, but we had someone who seemed to know the way so all good. We had some lvl 36/37s including me so we killed everything on the way.

A couple surprisingly big yagudo towards the end. Like mid 50s high alliance getting minor xp kind of deal. Wasn't so bad. The big thing was having someone knowing where to go and having a party high enough to take the yagudos at the end.

Davoi would be possible to sneak/invis if you could only get a 50ish to kill the guards posted at the door. I see no way you will make it through the door with the guards present. It's got one of those slow pop ups to ask if you want to enter the door, and if you get aggro the event sequence gets skipped. It's not a walk through kind of door. It's a sandoria "save the children" mission kind of door.

Oz Help?
# Feb 02 2004 at 8:48 AM Rating: Decent
Ok - got my first magicite in Davoi which was really easy.

Now - there really isn't a lot of help on the Castle Oz. I logged right outside last night, so will be doing this one after work solo.

My understanding is that you go in and go straight east to the big room, head to the NE corner, loop south, and then take the first left to the lever at I8. Go east into next level.

Then at the second map loop around to the fork at I8, take a right and then go west again to the next fork at H8. Turn left (west) and follow path a short distance until you are facing south at G8. Take first immediate right and follow winding path northward.

At the next map - go to G10 and you should be there.

I deduced this from some of the maps and general directions but have not done this myself. To those who have done this, can you confirm if this seems right or not?

Thanks!

Hi guys i just want te let you all know that i have completed this mission in 2 days.. about 1 hour for each place oztroja took me about 2. anyway i started at beadeaux after doing the tenshodo thing. went in and killed the nms. nothing to worry about they are pretty easy. we were only 3. me 33 mnk, a war 33, and a 48 blm whom we asked for help. The blm took them out with a couple of casts and we renkeid it as well. got the items went back to jeuno and got the new items. unlucked all the rooms for magicite on davoi and oztroja then headed back to beadeaux and got magicite in about 15 mins, this time we took a 51 brd. then headed to davoi completed it in 1/2 hour, extremely easy with invis and sneak. and then we logged. Next night we completed oztroja, which is by far the hardest of the 3 places. This time our friend the 51 brd brought along a nice 61 sam who did 1480 dmg to them yagudos which of course instantly killed them off. to top it off it took us about 1.5 hours to finish last magicite, luckily i chose the right torch every time and noone fell down the hole. this whole mission can be done solo if you are whm or rdm. Invisibility and sneak are the key. if not then buy prism powders and silent oils from AH.. only they are kinda pricy, at least on caithsith server. about 1.5k per item. need at least 12 so do the math... anyway i be flying now and good luck to all of you who want to complete this. ( don't cough up the 500000 for the pass). do it the way it is meant to be done.

Advise for RDM/WHM

The Davoi and Oztroja Magicites are relatively simple if you are rdm/whm. I am a lvl 43rdm/20whm I have the map to oztroja and davoi and did sneak/invis through them. Davoi was easy, invis until the wall then run through to the magicite room, invis immediatley upon exit and you're clear. for oztroja i just kept sneak and invisible up with the occasional refresh and made it to the altar room in about 20 mins with no battles, did the same for my exit. For Beaudeaux you'll probably need a party (they were too tough for me) but once you get the NM drops its an easy sneak/invis trek to the room.
Yeah, we did this mission
# Jan 18 2004 at 3:29 AM Rating: Default
So me and a group of people did this mission in 2 segments last night and tonight. I am a lvl 33 WHM/10SMN and organized/led the raid. We had some very important higher level help (a level 50 PLD, a lvl 47 WHM, and a 40-something RDM and SAM, and a 49 BRD). Davoi was pretty easy since 11 people hacking at the orcs with high level help pretty much did them in. Once you're past the seal there are no other enemies. The hardest part about Bedeaux was keeping the group patient and in the same place, we had to kill the mobs 3 - 4 times each since they usually drop 2-3 items per kill. Once you have the drops and come back from Jueno, it's very very easy (instructions are already on this string). Castle O is a different story. We didn't really have much trouble since we had the high level help, but it took forever and it seems to me that it would be VERY VERY difficult to sneak/invis through, since at least as a WHM those spells are very inconsistent (sometimes they last forever, sometimes you have to reapply within a minute). I won't claim to understand how the levers for the door work, but we had a couple of our higher level people fall down the hole and they made it back OK. We may have been able to do it without the higher level help, but I sure wouldn't want to try, because it would be incredibly slow/frustrating. Be prepared to spend a LONG time on this, and be prepared to get very frustrated with the people that go with you. Also make sure that you have one clearly defined leader (preferably the highest level player) who directs the way things go, or it will be even longer and more frustrating since you'll spend time fighting about what to do next. Spending this much time and working on something like this will be straining, so be prepared for the interpersonal tension (and for the love of God, be diplomatic). Good luck! Riding the airship is sweet.

Indeed. The level req is just a guess on what lvl you should by to do this quest by Allakhazams part. His guess is the lvl of the alliance you would need to do this mission...you need to be like 50 to do to solo this.

But yes their is no minimum to the lvl you have to be to receive or complete this mission. I did this with my lvl 29, so I think if their was a minimum, it would be higher.

By the way, takes at LEAST 6 hours (unless your lvl 50, not killing anything, and know exactly where to go).

If you're a Thief:
When you go to Beadaux and kill the 2nd NM, ask ur pt/alliance if they wanna stay there for a little. You can steal the item for AF1 THF from the mobs that spawns around that NM! So try getting people to help u with that. I dont remember the name of the Item, but i guess that would be a quick lookup at the quests part of this site.

Davoi and Beadeaux were extreemly simple, but I am having serious troubles with Castle O. I wandered arround there for about an hour and couldnt find the magicite area (I have the map). Neither one take an alliance, Beadeaux has a couple easy to kill NMs even for a mid 30's party of 5. Davori was even easier, just run in, use invis, drop it when the 2 mobs by the "forcefield" turn their back (if they are not killed already) and head in. Simply wait for them to turn their back again before you go out. (then invis again).

But Castle O. I ran arround there invis forever, and couldnt find the way (its hard to go there invis because you have to "activate" stuff fairly often) Anyone have better directions then those written above for Castle O. ?

# Jan 07 2004 at 8:53 AM Rating: Default
i went into the castle solo with my whm.

its actually fairly straight forward once you work out where you are heading, about a 15 minute run.

first head through the same door (at J-8) that you went to for the earlier mission (where you fell down)

then head up and exit into the garden area at G-7 .

head north along the ledge and re enter the castle.

now you are heading down into the hard part. you have to get past the door by lighting the torch at G-10. its a fairly simple maze type layout, to get to it just go around the left side of the map (side of map note, dont take the left route when u enter the lower area!)

really this part is alot of luck and skill in not being seen =)

sorry should add that once you pass through the torch door you want to go right and activate the door there.

then you get a cut scene before you can head down a tunnel to the magicite =)

I can't get this mission to appear for some reason. I'm level 30 and just got rank 4, and then I headed to Windurst to get the mission. I finally finished this last night.

Davoi - a friend and I used Sneak and Invisible to slip past the Orcs. Unfortunately, you can't get past the force field while Invisible, and there are a couple of mid 40s orcs nearby. I managed to get through okay, but my friend was agroed and died (you can't go through the forcefield if you're being attacked). Fortunately, a high level player pulled the orcs at that time, and I was able to raise my friend. Of course, getting back out again was a bit difficult when the orcs wouldn't move away from the forcefield for some reason...

Oztroja - I did this solo, but its not really something I would recommend. Its a long ways to the end, and the torch isn't used until shortly before the end. Sneaking through the torch part basically requires that the two mid-40's Yagudo guarding the door don't turn around at the wrong moment. If they do, then you've spent an hour or so earning a quick trip back to your home point. On the positive side, getting out of here is much easier than leaving Davoi is because there's a tunnel from the Magicite that leads to a one way passage much closer to the entrance, in an area with mid-30's monsters.

Beadeaux isn't too bad. Gho'Bu Gascon /checked Even to the 42 Dragoon we had tanking. He can be found on the ledge just north of the entrance (wait for him to get near the edge and pull him off). De'Vyu Headhunter was more difficult. He's found at I-10 (just before you enter the really hard part of Beadeaux). He /checked as Tough to the 42 Dragoon.

Both drop between 1-3 items each time they are killed, and respawn on them runs from 15-20 minutes (The first time I timed De'Vyu, the respawn was 20 minutes. The second time it was 15 minutes.). Once you have both drops its a simple matter to hand them in, and then come back and do the Magicite section. The only monsters you'll see on the way there are the mid-20's Quadavs, and just Sneak will get you past anything you might see on the way.
RE: Info
# Dec 24 2003 at 7:43 AM Rating: Decent
The NM respawn time used to be a static 10, but in the new patch from the 16th, all NMs have a random respawn time. Believe the Beadeaux ones are 10-30 minutes total.
RE: Info
# Jan 02 2004 at 11:38 AM Rating: Excellent
We had a large alliance (I would NOT reccommend taking an alliance here to ANYONE), so we got the pleasant opportunity of waiting for these NMs to spawn 4-5 times each. Each time, the respawn was within 1 minute of a 16-minute respawn time, so that seems to be a good number to go by.

Also, something else to note is that the Quadav Augery Shell (referred to as a Divination Shell here) is Rare, but NOT Exclusive, so it is a tradable item. Most likely it will be cheaper and easier just to kill the NM for it, but it should be noted that it could potentially be purchased as well.

I seem to be stuck on Oztroja. Every time i try to pull one of the levers, it gives me the message "Cannot reach target." Why is this? Is there anything else i must do to get it to work?
Must i do Davoi first? I have done Beadeaux already.

Those levers sure are a pain. Like most things, targetting and using switches/levers in this game is very picky.

You have to stand in the middle of the two. The left lever makes you fall, the right opens the door.

The order you get the Magicite in shouldn't matter.

I had to be pretty much right on top of the handle in order to get the door open. It was pretty annoying.

The second NM Quadav in Beadeaux is named De'Vyu Headhunter and is located at (I-10).

That Headhunter also drops Power Bows on occasion.

The above Castle Walkthrough post is excellent! I believe it may in fact be possible to solo the castle with a few Prism Powders and Silent Oils. However, you cannot light the torch while invisible so light it while still sneaked and then run to the zone through the Brass Door, if you attempt to solo this. We completed it w/ a two-person party, Lvl42 War and Lvl40 Whm. We are from Bastok and had to pull the left lever at the first door.

I got this Mission at lvl 30 with maybe 1/3 rank points into the rank. It may not be 35.

Mission Duration

With a high level escort, we just this mission last night in 3 hours and 15 minutes from start to finish. It's not too bad if someone knows where to go, and it could be done in a similar time with a full party of 45's as long as someone can sneak and invis through Oztroja. I can't imagine how long Oztroja would have taken if I had sneak/invis'd everyone.

We probably could have shaved off another 20-30 minutes if we had planned more and had the Teleport-Dem and Teleport-Mea spells.

Getting past the machines in Beadeaux is annoying but hardly that difficult. All that's required is a single WHM with both Silena and Cursna. A second WHM with Silena is also useful, though not necessary.

The first pair of machines that you must pass are located in the underground tunnel. The silence machine ONLY works if you use it (unlike what it says above, the machine doesn't do anything if you merely get close to it). First clear out the area around the curse machine (Afflictor). You can use ranged attacks to pull the Quadavs from this area. Then have everyone except one WHM run back to The Mute and use it to get Silence status. Then everyone including the non-silenced WHM runs through the room with the Afflictor and out the other side. Once everyone is through, the non-silenced WHM casts Silena on the other mages in the group, and if any mp remain, casts Cursna on his or herself. Meanwhile, the rest of the party clears out the Quadavs in the immediate area. If the melees in your party can't solo the Quadavs in this area, you probably shouldn't be trying this mission.

Once the Quadavs are all dead, the WHM who was cursed rests and recovers mp, and then the group moves on.

There are other Mutes and Afflictors elsewhere in Beadeaux, and the same pattern can be used to deal with all of them.

Okay heres some information to make the Oztroja part easier. First, go to http://nhz.host.sk/ffxi/maps/oztroja.htm to see a map, since Allakhazam doesn't have one yet. You will be going to I-8 on the first floor to find the 'lever'. Continue on to the 2nd floor (via "A"). Referencing page 2 of the map linked above, you need to go to "F". From "F" go to "I" (page 6 of map). From "I"(page 7 of map), follow the passage and go west at H-8. You're trying to get to G-10, which zones into another area which is where the magicite is.

This took us 6 hours to figure out. You're welcome.
