Mission Orders

On the Star Sibyl's command, you are to head north to the ruins of Fei'Yin, somewhere on the Beaucedine Glacier. There, you are to confirm whether the final seal is doing its job.

Walkthrough

Speak to a gate guard to begin this mission. You are needed at Heavens Tower. Head upstairs to the Star Sibyl's Chambers for a cutscene. You will receive the key item: New Fei'Yin Seal. If you cannot receive the seal, make sure your rank points are full and try zoning out of the tower then go back to the chamber again. This quest cannot be completed without the seal!

When ready, head to Fei'Yin either by going through Ranguemont Pass, or by getting a Teleport-Vazhl if everyone in your party has the crystal. It is recommended you have a map or a printed map as Beaucedine Glacier can be a very confusing maze to navigate.

When you zone into Fei'Yin, you will get a cutscene. After the cutscene, head to (K-8), where you will find two dolls and a Cermet Gate on the east wall. Head to the gate to find Qu'bia Arena. Some mobs aggro to magic and many others aggro to sound, so it's recommended every party member bring their own Sneak Oil.

You have 15 minutes to defeat Archlich Taber'quoan and his minions, the Ancient Sorcerers and Ancient Warriors. Everyone must be on this mission or higher or they will not be able to enter the battlefield. Once you defeat the Archlich, the battle will end and you will receive a cutscene and a key item: Burnt Seal.

Return to the Star Sibyl to finish this mission.

Update Notes

As of February 14th, 2011, there is no longer a level cap restriction on the mission battlefield.

Battle Notes

Buffs cast outside the battle will wear off upon entering, so do it inside. The Ancient Warriors keep spawning, so focus on the Archlich. You only need to defeat him to win. The minions are easily slept.

I wanted to know if anybody knows the name of the song played during the fight with the Arch Lich? It's the same song played during the Mission 2.3 Dragon fight.

Completed 14 fight against this NM.

I had my first loss at the 11th. Party setup was: DRK, SAM, NIN, RDM, BLM, MNK (me). The two mages sub'd WHM. In first half of battle things seemed to go well; started noticing ppl asleep. Strange to see DRK and SAM standing still in this fight. I also noticed the small "lime" skeleton head at the top of my screen, paralysis, most of the fight. Just before I dropped dead, I lost hate-the first time in all fights. ArchLich was at a sliver of life, but left standing.

Special note "We don't have Raise..aaaahhh!", or "When Everyone is Dead": one of our party decided to HP immediately, and lost exp, about 800exp. The rest of the party waited to get booted from 5.1 arena and received no loss of exp after we all HP'd. Stunned by the loss I arranged for party to return for a rematch after my (monk) 2hr reset.

The 12th Time: we returned with a different party configuration, same ppl but one differnt main job. It was now: WHM (lvl45), RDM, DRK, SAM, NIN, MNK (me). I passed out 2 icarus wings, one to DRK and other to SAM. Same strategy as first fight was used. 1) Full Attack on NM only, 2) Keep DD free of sleep, paralysis, slow, etc. It was a classic battle. MNK kept hate entire fight; four or five of minions pounded on monk. WHM was great. SAM dealt alot of damage, as did the DRK. Haste cast on Monk works wonders. It was a good success. Didn't beat the record on Remorah (2:20) but everyone in party was still well around half-life hp. Only Ninja died after this fight. He was so happy he used Miijin Gakure (think gob bomb here) after we Tele'd out. lol

Review some past battles: a) won with a lvl 38 WHM (crafty guy-ran ahead anon revealed his level after fight), b) won with a naked SUM (recruited on the spot after 1 ppl drop'd), c) pulled one out of the hat with 5 ppl (Paladin didn't understand-NM only), d) didn't break record with 2 monks (he forgot lvl 50 gear-another naked ppl).

Fight facts and tips: If ppl die in this fight, but party still kills NM everone gets the victory. You'll just need a raise outside of fight arena. Once NM goes down the cutscene begins. Monks keep hate, unless they're about to die, or are face up. Practically, you can win with five, just barely. Naked ppl "aren't" that effective, lol. Really, plan on getting Tele-Vahlz while your there if you don't have it, because you're going to need it soon. For those who can't cast sneak on themselves-bring a stack of Silent Oils and make it easy on everyone (macro item good). Silent Oil recommended for ppl under lvl 60 in Fei Yin.

Oh yeah almost forgot! In the Glacier don't cast near Elementals, unless you don't mind the fight. The floating eye thingy detects by "sight" (hence the big eyes). Got low Hp for some reason? The mobs in Glacier aggro low Hp. Mostly use Silent Oils if you have aggro problem.

Questions I still have: How can each of the mages classes best contribute to this battle? Would Silence against the NM and minions effectively swing fight? Would Sleep against mobs prove tactically good or great? Has any Whm used BanishgaII in fight, and what were the results? Has Paralysis been effectively used against these undead, in this arena?

Take care; have fun!

The following is a post by Vorinia that addresses some of my questions. I'd rate Vorinia up; good
__________________________________________________________________________________________________

Just did this with me RDM41/BLM, PLD, BLM, WHM, BRD, and WAR

Basically started the fight, I Silenced the left Sorcerer, the BLM silenced the right and the WHM Silenced the NM.
PLD solod the NM whilst the BRD used Foe Requiem (or whatever it is to Sleep the Skele Warriors that poured in after 30secs/1 minute.

PLD continued to solo the NM with WHM watching over, whilst the rest of us took down the Sorcerers.
Once they went down, the WAR basically did a Bouncer job and stood at the door, killing the Warriors as they re-spawned and tried to enter the chamber.

So there was 4 of us standing around doing not very much except healing and buffing. We actually took a knee a couple of times to gain MP faster but there was so no need.

I ended up casting Fire endlessly at the NM, Convert-ed and did so again just for fun.

It was easy, but you need a battle plan if youre not going in with any MNKs or DRKs ^^

Did this just now. I was the WHM, so I didn't pay much attention to the fighting, but no one ever got into the orange, even, so I didn't have to use Benediction or Divine Seal, or anything stronger than Cure III, really.. it was simple ^^
We had one person picking off the little skeles, with the other four working on the main.
I think it was more work getting Halver to give the quest to the Sandy people than it was to do the actual battle XD;
easy ^^

Did this tonight with

pld(me),pld,sam,mnk,whm,drg

Very easy, the other pld main tanked ther arch lich and wasnt quite all there and forgot to provoke it, but the monk had more then enough HP to pound away using 100 fists, when me and the drg had finished of the skellies we joined the fight. Whm used bene, i put up invinclible and it was clear sailing.

Our linkshell (IfritsDream) on the Ifrit server did this last night and it was a blast!

We all met at the Teleport-Vahzl crystal in Xarcabard and formed an alliance of 13 ppl, ranging from lvl 48 all the way to our leader, lvl 75 pld (Saven). We promptly set about killing anything and everything in our path to Fei'yin. It was quite a sight, watching so many people carve a path of destruction across the frozen tundra. We even stopped to fight the Golem NM in Beaucedine Glacier. (Gargantua)

Once inside of Fei'yin, we didn't bother with sneak or invisible. We again plowed through everything we could find. Once at the Cerment Door, we split into two parties. The first one was setup as such:

Pld/War (Mizumi)
Drk/War (Meowphttphtt)
Whm/Blm (Zev)
Rdm/Blm
Mnk/War (Thunderfist)
Blm/Whm (Thira)

I wasn't in this party, instead sat out to join party #2. The first party went in and absolutely owned the mobs, setting a new record in the process. Then it was our turn. Our party setup was this:

Pld/War (Tyreewere - me)
Bst/Whm (Fireman)
Pld/War (Evander)
Blm/Whm (Dorian)
Rdm/Blm (Alistra)
Whm/Blm (Zev)

Seeing as how our LS only had the one high level whm, she came back around to help us do the second battle. We entered and buffed up quickly. I popped my fish mithkabob and didn't wait for anyone. I charged down the hallway and immediately provoked the Archlich Taber'quoan. A quick Flash/Def/Sentinal later, and he only had eyes for me. The rest of my party entered and took to picking off the other bones one by one. (At this point I popped Holy Circle just for fun) Our beastmaster came over and began helping me pound away on the Archlich, while I continued to tank his ugly ***. I got so comfortable with his boney butt and his weak attacks that I popped Berserk just to hit for more damage. Before I knew it, he was dead, and we were outside. At no point in the fight did I ever lose more than 1/5 of my HP. (Galka Pld FTW!) We got outside and met up with the rest of the LS, only to find out we had beaten THEIR record by exactly ONE SECOND! wOOt! :)

From there, we all warped back to Jeuno and went to our home countries to finish the mission. Eleven more people this much closer to Rank 6. Now, once we're all ready, we're making a similar run to the Shadow Lord. I do feel sorry for him. lol

Thank you again to everyone in IfritsDream who did a fantastic job on this mission. I could never ask for a better LS.

I'm sorry guys but do I (from Bastok) need to talk to Halver or not to get the seal ?
I saw that someone wrote something bout Windurstians needed to talk to head of Taru's at Sandy so what bout Basty ?

Tx in advance ;)
RE: Halver or not ?
# May 16 2006 at 1:07 AM Rating: Default
As a Bastokan, you do *not* nead to speak with Halver to get the seal. All you have to do is speak with Naji at the top of the Metalworks, and then view the cutscene that follows. You will be granted the seal in that cutscene and can then immediately proceed to Fei'Yin.
BST for adds *yawn* soooo easy
# May 11 2006 at 9:23 PM Rating: Decent
I've done this a few times as BST lol and BST does wonders for the adds on this thing. Have the Beastmaster go in first for initial hate and have his pet take the adds, then have a tank run in directly after to voke the main mob. By the time the BST's jug knocks off a few adds every single add that pops tight after that heads straight for the pet lol. Best thing is at 50 the jug pets hit the adds for 200+ so it makes short work of them annoying little bastages...
Easy as pie.
# May 10 2006 at 6:08 PM Rating: Decent
Getting to Taber'quoan is easily the only difficult part of this mission, if you can even call it difficult. :p Sneak will get you through most of Fei'Yin without trouble. By the way: the write-up says that you only need Sneak to get through the whole of Fei'Yin, but this is not true. Ore Golems aggro to sight. There aren't many of them, but you'll probably pass by a couple on your way to Taber'quoan. Best to make sure everyone who needs it has Invisible on as well, in order to save your party the hassle of fighting any Ore Golems you come across. They aggro to magic as well, and have a pretty large aggro range (as I found out the hard way >.<) so be aware of that.

Anyway, once we got there, the fight was cake. Set-up was:

MNK/WAR
PLD/WAR
WAR/NIN
RDM/BLM (me)
RDM/BLM
BLM/WHM

PLD went in first, of course, to aggro everything. MNK charged in and used Hundred Fists to decimate Taber'quoan. The two RDMs kept everyone healed, especially the MNK, Hasted the monk, and kept Taber'quoan debuffed (Silence is really the only important thing). Everyone else attacked Taber'quoan and just ignored his minions.

Piece of cake. We finished the fight in record time - 3 minutes, 10 seconds versus the previous record of 3 minutes, 49 seconds.

Did this one lastnight and it was easy. Pt and strat was as follows. All memebers were atleast lvl 50.
PT:
WHM/BLM
RDM/BLM (me)
RDM/BLM
PLD/WAR
WAR/NIN - Could be replaced with most mellee dd mnk would be prefered for this spot.
BLM/WHM

Strategy:
This was a very straight forward fight start out by entering eatting and buffing normal buff Protect and Shell.

Next you have PLD run in first and get all the agro. This is the key have pld stright tank the main mob and all the lil guys bash on him. No 2h needed but it would be nice to have just incase. Also I cannot stress enough DO NOT SLEEP OR TOUCH ANY OF THE LITTLE ONES! If you touch them they get put on a hate list and then your squishy mages get hate for cure spam. Just let them all hit pld we had a hume pld and they only hit for 5-15 on him it was easily kept up w/ and whm tossing cure III's.

Then all you do is have everyone do as much dmg as possible I was tossing in some Fire II's for some extra and at about 10% did 2h and chain nuke at the end. But overall it was a very easy bcnm.

Also I notices a few skllies came from back where we entered and started hitting the blm. I hit quickest macro to get hate could which was cure II and it made them disapear no dmg or anything just said I defeated them.

Overview:
-Don't hit other mobs
-Pld goes in first
-As much dmg as fast as possible (to reduce chance of something bad happening)

Please stop posting misleading guides whereby it would confuse players running around like idiots from bastok to sandoria where we only need to stay at bastok metalworks to activate the dumb mission.

You are incorrect.

Yes, you DO need to speak to Halver. If you need this mission, and don't speak with him to get the seal, you won't be able to complete it. It's that simple.

Also, it is the same mission for all three cities. So the guide is accurate.

I'd like to see one addition though. The notation to not touch ANY of the adds is an excellent point. If we leave them alone, they just go after the tank.

Did this about a month ago, pretty straight forward but very easy.

party
MNK/WAR (me^^)
RDM/WHM
PLD/WAR
BST/WHM
WHM/SMN
NIN/WAR

aside from the RDM every1 was well over 50 so all stats were maxxed. when u head in have the BST call a pet to fight a minion every1 else just needs to attack/cast on the main guy. the MNK will need to be juiced up (food, focusboost, haste, aerial armor ETC. W/E) then 2H the un-living **** outta that bag'o' bones. lol. in need be have BLM sleep a few skeletons to ease the pain. enjoi and good luck ^^

Just finished this with this set up.
Nin,Sam,Sam,Mnk,Blm,Whm
No one went into red hp. I only saw two people get in the yellow. I activated my 2hr (sam) when the archlich was a little below half life and only got 2 of my 3 ws out. It was funny, the other sam activated his 2hr right when the archlich died.
Easy

Just finished this a few minutes ago. It was insanely easy. Lineup was SMN/WHM, WHM/SMN, BRD/WHM, SAM/WAR, BLM/WHM, PLD/WAR (me). We went in, buffed up. I got the Archlich's attention while the BRD and BLM began rounding up and sleeping the summoned monsters. The SAM and I then pounded on the Archlich, getting him down to perhaps 80% HP over the course of a few minutes. The SAM 2 hour'd toward the end, and then the SMN did as well, tearing the Archlich to shreds. No one got into the red HP-wise. I did no tanking, really; the SAM took all of the Archlich's fury. I simply couldn't hold hate after he activated his 2 hour -- it would have been better with another SAM or a MNK. Anyway, it's completely easy. I would bet almost any lineup could own this if the players are competent.

try returning to your mission NPC, then go talk to Halver again. i'm not sure this will work, but i'm currently having the same problem. also, you may have to talk to halver as level 45+

OK, first off, there are a few misleading points here. You have to talk to Halver ONLY if you are from San d'Oria, otherwise, talk to the person in your home nation. Secondly, this is NOT a lv45 required mission to get. I just got it 5 minutes ago as a WHM35/RDM16 (I also solo'd to get my 3 lv36 Teleport scrolls, so you don't have to just run and buy them at AH before you quest for them, and it's much cheaper this way). My rank points are low (only donated about 11 crystals) and I just had to talk to the Mission NPC at the gates first. I just wish I didn't have to wait another 15 levels or so before I complete this mission.

Ok to start this NIN died in route to fight and dispanded pty so we had no tank. SAM said that he would tank. went in and started beating him. Then SMN Astral Flow and pulled hate and ended up dieing right at the end as i was put to sleep. but we beat him ^^

Being from Bastok, i always hate it when people from San, or Windy, post Thier mission info to the mission for bastok, without giving specific Details as to how to start or finish the mission.

As far as the end of this mission, the "Go back to your hometown" was VERY informative. I must have spent 2 hrs last night walking around and talking to everyone in Bastok, and everyone in Jeuno, just to find the person who would trigger the cutscene...

In the end, I had to enter the door behind Karst, walk down to Cornelias room, to get a CS of her leaving. Only then could i talk to Naji to end the Mission. Hope this helps!
How it went

50PLD/WAR
50WHM/BLM
50RDM/BLM
50MNK/WAR
48WAR/NIN
50BLM/WHM

This fight was really simple.

When we got to the BC we did all our buffing, normal buffs (protect, shell, mages used stoneskin and blink, nin's used utsusemi, etc), and healed full MP. Once full we headed inside.

When we got inside, we had the PLD rush in before everyone else and he provoked the Archlich. And everyone focused all their attention on him.

The MNK ended up taking hate from the PLD, but was no problem, with the RDM and WHM and PLD healing, noone got in the red.

Noone used 2h. It wasn't needed, we were doing enough damage from melee and BLM that he was dead in 3min 16 seconds. The record on Garuda was 3min 10sec.

I think the key here was the MNK, BLM and WHM. Everything else was icing on the cake.

Good luck! ^^
