Summary

Raifa wants you to exterminate an ecological threat, and bring her evidence of the feat.

In-Game Text

Description

Before attempting this quest ensure you have one designated leader that everyone will follow so that the alliance works as one big team. This is essential for the success of this mission. Make sure you have a full alliance!!!

Reifa is located in the Steaming Sheep Restaurant. Talking with Reifa he will tell you of an infestation in the Gusgen mines. His group (V.E.R.M.I.N.) is in charge of clearing out the mines, and he requests your help to clear the mines. Reifa informs you that you should meet up with Degga either at or in (he doesn't say which) the Gusgen mines for more information on the quest.

Go to Gusgen mines and talk to Degga. Degga will apply an oil that level limits you to 20 and makes it so that anyone without the oil cannot cast spells on you (no heals, buffs, etc. unless they have to oil also).

After speaking to Degga and everyone in the alliance has the level cap, proceed north to the first intersection. Take the west corridor (VERY IMPORTANT)!

The west corridor will have mostly ghouls and bandersnatches. Fight these allong the way to ensure you do not train them all the way to the ??? or you will die.

This corridor has only one path to follow, it will veer to the right (to the North). Continure following and clearing the mobs until you reach the most northern part of the passage. You will now be in the large room at the northmost part of the map high up on a platform. If you are not on the platform, you have not taken the correct corridor!! On this platform, go a few steps EAST to locate the ??? (LOCATION G-6 FIRST FLOOR). There will be about 5-6 ghouls and 2-3 bogies. Clear these bogys and search for the ???. The ??? are easy to find because they are located on a CHEST in the middle of the deck. When all the mobs are clear, and everyone is buffed and medded, have the main alliance TANK touch the ??? - DO NOT allow any other player to touch it first as they will instantly get the hate. Once the two NM's are dead, make sure that EVERYONE then touches the ??? to complete the quest. Now you get to fight your way back out!

Man, this quest is WAAAAY too hard! We went down with 2 groups, and had a lvl 61 dragoon fight our way through for us. We couldn't even find the spot with the chests. How many floors down is this? And does anybody have a good strategy?
Deegaaaaa

He is the galka in Samurai armor ( red one) right before you see any skeleton warrior.

This is not possible without multiple groups because of the stupid oil

And the rewards not worth the trouble of trying to get 2 groups + to deal with the mobs you'll have to fight in order to finish this because of everyone being lvl 20

Just skip it..

1. Deega is inside the mines right at the intrance, you might have to wait for him to load if your comp is slow.
2. I highly recommend you get one of those JP highlevels to help you and at least 3 of your friends. This way is much easier then trying to control 18 noobs.
3. Do this quest before lvl 21...I was lvl 27 and when I tried to do it I went down to 20 and, well, armor unequiped @_@.
4. This guide is very good, although I think the reqard is 2K.

The start NPC's name is spelt incorrectly: Raifa. She's on the left side of the Steaming Sheep tavern. Be sure to have completed the quest A Foreman's Best Friend for a free map of the Gusgen Mines.
Min Level

I would update the minimum level on this, there is no way a level 1 could do it.

The level is tied to the minimum level that your character needs to be to be given the quest, not the level that you need to be to complete it.

You can receive the quest at level 1, so the minimum level is set to that.
A Correction or an Update?

This quest can actually be obtained in the Inn in South San D as well. Only difference is instead of Gusgen mines the quest takes place in Ordelle's Caves in La Theine Plateau. Not sure what the reward is, heck not even sure what the "VERMIN" is. I was lvl 8 when I received the quest.
Quest Walkthrough

Reward: 5000 gil

Walkthrough:

Get the quest from Reifa. Go to Gusgen mines and talk to Degga. Degga will apply an oil that level limits you to 20 and makes it so that anyone without the oil cannot cast spells on you (no heals, buffs, etc. unless they have to oil also).

Make sure you have a full alliance!!! Also, make sure that everyone has lvl20 or lower armor and weapons because when the oil is applied any armor or weapons above lvl20 will be removed.

Fight your way down to G-12. If you have a map you want to take the west passage to the large room in the back. When you get there clear the room. There will be about 5-6 ghouls and 2-3 bogies in the room.

Buff up and med to full then have your tank go click on the ??? on the chest in the room in front of you. Two "Puddings" will spawn. If you have a BLM sleep one while you kill the other. These are really tough mobs and without a full alliance you will not beat them. MAKE SURE you are fighting the puddings AWAY from the casters. You need max distance possible between the mobs and your casters because the Puddings have an Area Effect when they get low that does anywhere from 250-350 damage to everyone close enough. That is what killed our alliance last night...we we're ready for the AE.

I haven't completed it quite yet but we are going to try again tonight.
One thing we are going to do is get all of the Water Resist items we can find because the AE is water based.
REWARD????

Well the mission sounds like LOTS OF FUN!! mHmm...but what the hell is the reward? I mean is the quest worth the reward or just the experience???

The hound type things aren't that bad, I went there ghoul hunting several times with a party of lvl 18 - 20 people. Good news though to people that die, there is almost always a JP highlevel with raise around the area.

The mines are East of Crag of dem in the Highlands area. Level cap is 21 I hear u need to get to the G-12 area and examine ??? and NM will spawn kill it and u will get your reward. It is suggested that you come here with a full alliance party so that you can complete it, I was there last night with 2 full parties allianced lvls 17-21 and we did ok till we met a bogy.. we all died! So we didn't even get to that part of the dungeon but we were pretty close.

The quest is located to the east of Crag of Dem in Konschtat Highland. The Deega guy is in the mines, just as you enter the mines, you should see him. I was lvl 20 when i went there and the level limit is still above it.

Well, you can kill the skeletons easily enough, but ghouls and the demon looking dogs (they have some weird name that I can't recall) are all about lvl 25 or so

Don't even know what he wants you to do with this vague information

If it's as simple as killing the skeletons, there all easy prey at around lvl 18 so their around 14 and 15 generally, but those guys are grouped together and you can't sneak past them in any way

Kind of a weird quest considering you get it at such a low level
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 12 2003 at 12:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) that has got to be the vaguest quest description ever posted online...please dont post quest stuff if you dont have specific information...sheesh

Some Information

I went there last night for the first time.

The mines are located off of the Konschtat (sp?) Highlands. There's a canyon running off the east side of the area, and the mines are at the back. You'll know you're heading the right way when you see the mining equipment. There's a poltergeist that likes to hang out in this area, and if its night time, there will be a couple of ghosts in the canyon.

Deega is inside the mines. Head inside, and travel down the entrance tunnel. Just before you reach the first open area, you'll find Deega. Talk to him, and he'll say that he's going to apply an ointment to you in order to draw out the vermin, and that the ointment might have some strange side effects. It turns out that the side effect is to limit your maximum level, but the level limit is higher than 14 (the level I was at).

Now as for the reason you don't want to enter the mines for a while...

Once you reach the end of the tunnel, you'll quickly find out why you don't want to come here in the mid-teens. Where the tunnel opens into the first room, there are roughly a half dozen skeleton warriors, at least some of which were tough at level 14. They are all relatively close to each other, and its nearly impossible to pull one without getting at least one or two more.

The gungsen mines are located north of North Gustaberg, on the right side of the map (above the cliff rather than on the outpost side), after you go north to the next area, go to the northeast and you will see a cave, that is the gungsen mines... Beware, this quest is not easy and there are ghosts, lightning elementals, and polterguiest here... Not for the low levels...

You have the right explanation of INSIDE Gusgen, but your directions lead to Palborough. Gusgen is the far right side of Konschtat, in the 'U' shaped part.
