Summary

Bring Nbu Latteh's daughter a copper ring as a gift from her mother.

Walkthrough

Talk to Nbu Latteh in Bastok Markets at J-9. She wants a Copper Ring for her daughter, Roh Latteh. She will give you a Fire Crystal with which to synthesize the ring. You may either synthesize the ring, buy one from the Auction House, or buy one from either Teerth or Visala at the Goldsmiths' Guild.

Go to Roh Latteh in Bastok Mines at H-7 and trade her the Copper Ring. She will give a letter that reads:

"Dear Mom,

Thank you for all the presents you bring me, I like them a lot...but I'd be more happy if you came home early sometimes, even if you don't bring me anything." -Roh

Return to Bastok Markets and talk to Nbu Latteh. She will give you 100 gil if you read the letter or 200 gil if you did not read it.

wow... I dislike this quest... >.<

reason 1) had it active for a VERY long time now and didn't bother to do it...
reason 2) Copper Ring costed me 255 gil in the guild shop and I have Rank 6 fame... *glare*
Repeatable -- Yes

Ok, just completed this quest, 16 times (28-Oct-06). I had completed a couple of the stone monument quests in Selbina, so I probably had a little fame in Bastok before I started. As most people stated, talk to her and she'll give you a fire crystal. Buy a ring from the jewelry store (80 gil) and give it to her daughter. Return and talk to her for 200 gil. A nice little profit of 120 gil and a crystal.

Now here is what people either didnt mention in their posts, or didnt figure out (those who say its not repeatable and she only talks about a guard). You have to zone out and back in for her to give you the quest again.

I checked my fame after every second run, and just as soon as I hit fame level two, I got the second quest, and the price of the rings dropped from 80 gill to 79.

The daughter is in Bastok Mines, zone in, go up the stone ramp, turn 120 degrees to the left, go down a wood ramp, follow the path to the right, last door on the right at end of the alley.

Something kind of funny happened to me doing this quest on Midgardsormr and I wonder if people could try this out to see if it can mean a little bit of profit and easy fame.

So, yeah, she asks for the ring. I go to the jewelry store and it's selling for 84 gil so I buy one (I found out later you can fish them out of the moat with lugworms, but, whatev.). I give the ring to her daughter, her daughter gives me the letter, I read it because I'm a curious cat, and the mother scolds me and gives me my 100 gil.

Well, wasn't I surprised when she asked for ANOTHER copper ring! Nothing anywhere on this site says this quest is repeatable. At the time, I was trying to build fame for the "Bait and Switch" quest so i was actively looking for easily repeatable quests. Second time; however, I didn't read the letter because I wanted to make 116 profit instead of 16. When I turned the letter into to mom in unread condition she gave me the 200 gil but wouldn't reactivate the quest.

Eventually, I raised enough fame with flint stones, treant bulbs, zinc ore, and rusty buckets that she started the quest with the treaure buried under the sign in konchtat, but I wonder if, by reading the letter ever time, you can boost your fame quickly and early. I wonder if somoene who has no Bastok fame and hasn't done this quest yet and try it out and let us know.

PS - I eventually unlocked and completed the "Bait and Switch" and got the Key Ring Belt for my THF. It feels very satisfying after the disappointment of going 0/20 on JEJ.
Repeatable til Bastok Fame =2

I didn't want to pay AH prices for the linen robe you get from the followup, so I ran my Rank 2 Windy Mithra down to Bastok to attack this quest. I hadn't done any quests in Bastok or Selbina. I was permitted to repeat the quest exactly 20 times, at the end of which I was fame level 2 with Bastok. I didn't check my fame midway through, but it seems reasonable to assume that your Bastok fame determines the cutoff for repeating this.

Note that the jewelery shop right next to the questgiver sells the rings - price was at 80 when I started and dropped to 79 somewhere along the way. This means that I made a profit of 2400 gil and 20 fire crystals in the course of getting fame I was going to need anyway. :)

On one character (main) I didn't do this quest till i already had Hero fame in Bastok (love those quadav helms!) and no matter what I do, i can't seem to get the second quest from her... she just rambles on about the guard watching her... On this character she has never offered me the quest a second time...

Just completed her quest for the first time on a mule (0 fame, 0 other quests done) and she immediately offered the second quest (dangit... and i was hoping for some free gil, crystals, and fame!... *sigh*)

Number of repetitions
# Nov 10 2004 at 11:10 PM Rating: Decent
FYI - I did this quest with one of my mules (absolutely no fame whatsoever, no other quests done) and was able to repeat it 10 times before she gave me the second quest. I had previously done it with another mule which had been doing the "Mommy's Helper" quest (bring food to the woman in the Markets distrcit) and only was able to repeat it around 5 or 6 times before she gave me the second quest.

In other words, if you want to get the most from this quest, do it before you do any others.
just wondering

I repeated it 3 times, then she gave me a new quest, which was just as easy as the first.

I did this 3 times as well and now she asks me to find a hidden treasure in Konschtat Highlands, return it to her home, and wait.

Where in Konschtat do you look?

Just incase anyone was wondering what the letter said, but didn't want to read it:

"Dear Mom,
Thank you for all the presents you bring me, I like them a lot...but I'd be more happy if you came home early sometimes, even if you don't bring me back anything. - Roh"

Cheapskate. You only lose 100g!

Hi I'v done about 16 Quests noed in my completion log and about 24 repeetables, but I still cant get people that issue quests that requier an estamated fame of 30. Do repeetables realy count? I'm thinking they don't at thist point and how do I or how can I check out how much fame I have?

This quest is repeatable until she give you her second quest. Then it will not be repeatable.

Her second quest is to get a Painting off a Sign Post in Konschtat Highlands, which is not repeatable.

It has always been a key item.

And it's repeatable no matter what, since to finish it, you give her the letter - as in, you don't have it anymore.
It's True

You can't repeat it.. they changed the letter to a key item.. so no grabbing tons of fame anymore
Repeat Quests Nerfed?
# Dec 21 2003 at 5:31 AM Rating: Default
I have heard from a few people that fame farming quests such as this one have been nerfed; that is, the quest is certainly repeatable, but it does not grant more fame than the innitial completion of the quest granted. Has anyone seen proof of this?

Thanks,

Confirmed, *right outside the door* states I-7, however right beside the NPC itself it reads H-7, this is the confusion. However, stating that the door to the house is I-7 is definately more helpful, thank you it was taking forever to find this one
REpeatable
# Dec 01 2003 at 8:31 AM Rating: Decent
The quest is repeatable UNTIL you get enough fame to do the Windmill/Linen robe quest. Once you get that quest ya cant get the ring quest again. Haven't tried to just do the turn in without talking with yer first though.

if roh wont let you trade you must target her and then select trade, if you dont target her first it will say there is nobody in the area to trade with. you must use the trade option to get her to take the ring.
