Summary

You are being tested by the Tenshodo.
Defeat the two monstrous rams in the wild and bring back their horns--a Rampaging Horn and a Lumbering Horn to Paujean.

Walkthrough

The quest can be offered from Paujean at the Tenshodo area in Port Bastok. You must have some Tenshodo fame before it will be offered. To raise Tenshodo fame, do the quest from Talib (same floor) by trading him zinc ores repeatedly.

You must bring Paujean a Rampaging Horn and Lumbering Horn. Rampaging Ram appears in Konschtat Highlands by lottery pop of Tremor Ram. Lumbering Lambert appears on the La Theine Plateau by lottery pop of Battering Ram.

Bring the two horns back to Paujean for your reward.

I'm actually in the middle of this one. Got my Lumbering horn after....headaches....but now I'm trying to do the Rampaging Horn. The only spawn spot I've nailed for this mob is to the south of the crag, just waiting for the NM to pop.
Haha.

So, I killed these rams a long while ago, and have both of their horns. They've been sitting in my MH taking up space, so I decided to go turn them in for the belt. As it turns out, the idiot won't give me the quest. It's really annoying; I can't figure out why ; ; Is Tenshodo fame different from Norg stuff? That could be why if so ; ;

I got lucky on Lambert, my friend had told me that he had just seen rampaging ram so I decided to check for Lambert, not even 5 minutes into looking I found him above the lower mountains. Ended up being a tough fight for my level 33 pld/war, but I was able to kill him with 210 hp left. I ended up really lucky because his petribreath ended up missing both times he used it.

lol funny story.

i had toggled every all chat filter except tell/say/party/ls to on. we need communication because we had just finished Mea about 5 hours ago.

i was running to sandy to do my knight squires test and i see this big ram called Lumbering Lambert. so i decide, eh free gil. i start out with a sneak attack and pop like 300ish damage on it. then i open a web browser and looks up lumbering lambert on allakazham. then i switch back to ff online to find out i had only 123 hp left! starts casting utsuseimi....

how i got my hp down to 123 is still a mystery lol. i had all stuff filtered so i couldnt tell. btw i was 53 thf/ 26 nin.

This quest was annoying, but compared to some i got lucky!
spent 1 1/2 hours in Konschadt Highlands running around in circles killing Rams as they popped. No good strategy for it just killed when saw. When heading towards the crag Rampaging Ram popped right in front of me :). We killed and got drop!!
The next day i logged on at 1. Geared up and headed to La'Theine Plateau. Again i found the area where Rams spawned and killed. They respawn every ten minutes so i subbed RNG for widescan since i didn't have friends with me. 10 minutes kill ram. wait 10 minutes kill ram. repeat. 7 hours later XO .. i check widescan and it says Lumbering Lambert!! so i run and luckily get claim (there was a 75thf/rng standing right next to it apparently afk cuz he was ticked when he got back :)) got drop... turned in my horns and got a purple belt! woooooo. to bad i only did it to get to Brown Belt quest. hopefully starting that tomorrow and getting 1 or 2 of the items. but i have high hopes.

Good luck to everyone. I hope this comes easier to you than me!

ToD for Marlborger on Bahamut. Please assist!

Soloed Lumbering Lambert Today in La Thiene today. (RNG32/NIN16)

Heres pretty much how the battle went from start to finish.
Lumbering Lambert is haughtily walking near the edge of the cliff, unaware that he is being stalked by a huntress.... Out of nowhere a hail of arrows strikes him and wounds him! He angrily stomps toward the huntress, thinking her weak. (Probably because he had just eaten another adventurer of about the same level<33>) Unbenownst to him he had met his match, his attacks hit shadows of his opponent! Refracted by the light rays of the sun! Lumbering Lambert grinned an evil grin as his horns stabbed into the huntress. Little did he know that she had an ace up her sleve. The huntress loads a special bolt into her crossbow, and as it thuds into him he feels his life draining away, seeing her wounds heal simultaneously. Nearly panicking he locks the huntress in a paralyzing gaze, leaving her unable to act... unable to move... But she was far more agile than he expected, as his attacks seemed to miss. (Methinks he might need some glasses...) Soon after the huntress regains her bodily control bolts continue to drain the life out of the prey. Gasping for breath he makes a final move and bleats loudly, increasing the size of his muscles tenfold! His horns bite into mithran flesh, but unfortunately he cannot outmatch her. As he breathes his last breath the huntress grins, sawing off his horns as proof of her conquest. She cuts off its skin and its fat for later use, and stows them in her pack, proceeding northwards towards the Elvaan capital.

I made this quest today, and i though talking about how i made it could help someone.
First of all, i went as pld/bst, since my bst is 37. So, i went Konschtat and started to kill rams each 10 minutes using side winder to locate them. As someone said in a post here, doing this w/o side winder is useless.
It poped like 3 hours later (sorry, i dont remember where exactly) or maybe less, and it droped. Then, i went to LTP and killed rams for 2 hours. No pop. I went to help a friend and came back few hours later, and i continued as pld/bst for 2 hours and it poped. This time i got some help from a guy who was soloing there (i asked him to tell me in case he see the NM), this guy voked the NM and started to run till i got there, then, he disengaged and i got the NM. Drop. That was so damn nice of him (thank you, Damh!) so i got both items.
I dont know what's the supposed the repop time, but it didnt take to much to me, and got lot of ram skins which im selling on AH right now.
I dont know how the hell some ppl were weeks doing this quest... maybe i just was lucky both times.

well i was mining in gusgen mines, and as i was runnin by, i saw RR being killed by a rdm, after he killed it he continued to roam the area, so i asked him if he would help me with mine. he said he would cuz he was also looking for the materials anyways, but he didnt have rng subbed. so i op warp in vd and get /rng, go back and stand around for 30-45 min. Then he has to go, and about 30 min after that i catch the RR pop, beat 3 other ppl to it and then helped one of the others get it. all in all not too hard, just takes patience, theres my 2 gil worth

killed every ram I could find along the road , they pop over a very large area.. took about two hours before LL finally popped. subbing beastmaster or ranger will save you alot of time
pretty sure these horn drops are 1/1

Well, when I clicked on the link for this quest I had no idea I would be reading 20 posts about NMs that had absolutely no information about the quest. There was 1 useful post in this thread.....if you want to talk about your good or bad experiences while escorting someone to Sandoria, go post it on the info page for the NMs you are talking about...

I'll have to agree that a lot of un-useful information has been posted in this thread, but it seems that everyone that has complained hasn't taken the time or the effort to research anything and put it down with their complaint.

So, I'm complaining and now I'm doing something about it. I have some limited information as to the fame required to do this quest, and the following quest in Jeuno for Brown Belt, 'A Fistful of Fury'.

This quest requires Tenshodo fame, incase anyone didn't know and was wondering. Tenshodo fame can be checked in two areas. 1) The Neptune's Spire sales lady as you first walk in to the Neptune's Spire. 2) Norg itself. I forget the name of the NPC, but I plan to make a follow up post with some more information as to both of these fame checking persons. To check fame in Neptune's Spire, ask the lady in Neptune's Spire to see her assortment of goods, once you do, check the price of rice balls. The lower the price of rice balls, the higher your fame. Once you get so high, the price of rice balls will reach a minimum limit, which at that point your fame is at around lvl 6 I do believe. At any rate, I'll gather some more information as to the price of rice balls and current fame lvl, and what fame lvl rice balls will stop dropping price. I'll also post a listing of fame sayings according to the Norg NPC.

At any rate, on to required TENSHODO FAME required to do Purple Belt quest.

As of now, according to rice ball price, I'm at lvl 2 fame. Another site has info stating that when at lvl 2 Tenshodo fame, you are able to do Purple Belt quest. Don't ask me why, but I'm not able to do the quest at lvl 2 fame. It could be a typo or could be some bad information on that sites part. I won't go into detail as to the name of the site, b/c I don't want to incriminate on anyone else's info. I'll simply say that it could just be a lot of bad things happening at once for that site. As of right now, I'm guessing that lvl 3 is what it takes to start this quest, and then you must advance on to 4 in order to do Brown Belt. It makes sense, b/c I can confirm beyond doubt that Utsusemi Scrolls can be quested at lvl 4 fame. An LS member has lvl 4 and can quest them at that lvl.

All-in-all, I would say it would be safe to start this quest once you are sure that you have obtained lvl 3 Tenshodo fame.

As to the mini-NM's that drop these items ... It's safe to say that if you are lvl 40+ you can take them out no problem. Of course different jobs have varying strengths and weaknesses when taking out certain monsters. If you know your job well, and your capabilities, you might be able to take them out at an earlier level. But really lvl 40 is the best lvl to even attempt this.

I hope this information has been of some assistance. I'll try to make a follow up post on the information I talked about earlier. You can look for it soon.

I was farming near crag Dem and I passed by RR. First time seeing him or fighting him and I get drop. I decide to run to Sandy and farm along the way and I kill one of the PH for LL. I was gonna continue on to Sandy, but this WHM was dead so I decided to yell for raise for him. He HPed after about 30 minutes and LL pops so I kill the NM and I get drop. Yay, lucky day for me.
LL and RR info

I read through every post only to find that not one contained any significant fame info...

Please avoid posting your "interesting anecdotes" about Ram camping unless you have some useful interesting information to add with it... just makes more text for everyone looking for help on this quest to read through.

Quote:
Look, I'm tired of reading "I waited 7 hrs, no spawn, boo hoo". RR is -*NOT*- a lottery pop. If you know anything about Steelfleece/Bloodtear, you'd know it takes about 60 RR/LL in 72 hours to spawn them, do the math. That means their spawn time is 1 hr and a half, I have this proven as I was on a level 67 rng and stayed for two spawns... Guess how long it took between spawns? Yep, 1 hr and a half. I will do this again to test it. If you're missing the spawn it's either 'cause of 2 reasons. A.) Your widescan is not large enough (He does have a pretty large spawn area, barely fits on the widescan as 67 rng) or B.) You're not killing Tremor Rams. Hope this helps a lot of you deciding to camp these NMs, happy hunting.

I camped Lumbering Lambert for 4+ hours w/o resting, almost always uncontested, without missing a single Ram ToD... so it's sure as heck not a guaranteed 1.5 hour spawn.

Now on to my post...

Level:

I would recommend a lvl 40 job if you want to camp these two. Of course your ability to solo them will vary with your job and how high your RNG sub is. I killed them both pretty easy with MNK40/RNG1, I used hundred fists on both but it didn't seem necessary... just watch out for its Great Bleet ability, it lowers your max hp to about 25% of its original capacity.

Spawntime:

Rams spawn pretty much exactly 4:15 (game time) from death. you must kill the Rams in each NM's respective area for LL or RR to spawn.

Actual NM spawns seem to vary but hopefully one will spawn before a few hours are up.

Watch out for Bloodtear and Steelfleece... it's rare that one spawns but they aren't to be messed with unless you are prepared and know what you are getting youself into...

Spawnpoints:

I only have the info for LL (fyi I'm sure you can get the needed info on each NM's respective pages), I got lucky on RR so didn't take the time to get it.

Rams spawn in 2 different areas of La Thiene (Rams also have 2 different spawn areas in Kon. Highlands), the NW spawn area is pretty easily covered with Wide scan while standing approx. in the middle of F-8 (perhaps a little NE of middle).

The second area isn't as easily covered (my RNG sub was only lvl 1... higher lvl rngs my have better results) but it's the one Lumbering Lambert pops in. I usually stand between 2 yellow trees near the middle of H-9. It can spawn east of wide scan's range from that position and I've seen it walk SW of it as well... needless to say if it "hasn't spawned" when it should have move east until your widescan covers all of I-9 and check again.

Competition:

As noted in other posts people are usually just farming skins and normal ram horns... if you let them keep all drops besides RR or LL's horn they will most likely let you join party and help you get your horn.

Quest: I'm not sure... came to this page looking for fame info but just found a bunch of ram camping stories ; ;

If you have any info on the actual QUEST or fame info, please post a reply to this message with the info (^.^).

Rams:

You will no doubt get plenty of Ram skins and horns... high leathercraft is recommended if you don't want to end up dropping A LOT of ram skins.

Ram horns sell well in Windy or Jeuno on my server and skins sell well in Sandy and Jeuno.

Hope this was of help to at least one person =)

Picked up both horns in 5 hours over two days. Camped both locations the first day (3 hours) with no sightings. Spent an hour the next day and found LL (ate Penta Thrust for 1062), moved to the other side and found RR 25 minutes after. Walked home with about 100k+ worth in ram parts.

Ok i just finished this last night. i started on LL and at first alone but then a camper apears. hes after a cube so we decide to help each other. i find a cube and he claims and decides to help me on his other char and we continue. soon another camper whos only after skins and he helps as long as we pass skins. so now 2 WS and 3 eyes and a horn camper comes but soons leaves (we had everything down the the spawn times under contrl so he didnt have much of a chance). soon both of the helpers half to go and a blm/rng starts to kill the rams. shes only after skins so we team up. finally after 2 and 1/2 hours LL spawns and we get claim. battle was easy for a 62 pld. i decided that now its 11:30 and im tired to log in kon. highlands and worry bout RR tomarrow since i heard he was worse. well as i aproach i decide to widescan just to make sure. and for all u guys who hated caming him ur gonna kill me :D. RR sitting right there i kill and get the belt. i never saw bloodtear or steelfleace. i recomend asking other campers what theyr doin cause most rnt after horn and r glad to team up with ya. i dont know much bout RR cause i didnt even camp him but as for LL i heard his respawn is 2hrs, rams spawn every 10 mins (or LL if he decides to take the placeof a ram), and keep time of spawns to have a upperhand on any1 tryin to beat ya to it. widescan in H9 should catch him no matter where he spawns and he wont spawn anywear left of G9. if bloodtear spawns then 1 run cause he aggros and ur pulled in and 2 ull need to wait again cause LL reaspawn is reseted.

I have been doing this quest for a wile now. Finnaly i just unlocked RNG just for the wide scan. This made things a whole lot easier. I had recieved some help from a in Konschat Highlands and got my first horn in about 2 hrs of camping. Now my 2nd Horn in La'thein was a Bi**h. This ******* NM would not spawn. It took me 3 nights to get this guy to spawn. After many Battering Rams later and 5 or 6 full inventories of Ram Skins, i was on my way back to San'doria to put the skins in the AH. Then i got this feeling that i should just turn back one more time and BAM, there he was. He was no challenge to me at all. I beat the hell out of him and got my horn and was off to claim my prize. Now for the Brown Belt quest....
Completed Today
# Mar 05 2006 at 6:21 PM Rating: Decent
Got both horns today and it went surprisingly well. RR popped in between 1-2 hours of camping. The tremor ram placeholders pop every 4 game hours roughly.

Moving on to LL in La Thiene. A lot more competition here. A few farmers and another camper or two. Not long into this camp, I find myself approaching a large ram thinking its LL. As i get closer i see 2 dead bodies on the ground lol. I slow down and read Bloodtear Baldurf above the beast. I shout my position for BB as well as to get a raise for the poor dead guys. Suddenly I'm aggroed by BB and I too am dead.

A small setback, I HP to Jeuno and let the high level peeps know about Bloodtear slaughtering innocent lower levels in La Theine. I tele back and find a crowd of 10-20 people watching a party take BB down. One of the other campers who died courtesy of BB joins up with me and we begin to camp LL again. Within an hour LL pops in front of me near H-9( BB popped at H-9 also btw), I 2hr again and take 'em down. Lumbering Horn and Rampaging Horn! Im not gonna take off though, I help my new friend continue to camp. After 2 hours LL pops in front of him ... 2 ragings fists and a few normal attacks later LL is down for the count again. (This one, like the other two in La Theine popped at H-9) 3 horns for me in roughly 6-7 hours of camping, not a bad day by any means.

To sum things up, I'm a 37mnk/war... guy I teamed up with was 41mnk/war. We both could solo these rams. Never hurts to have 2 hr ready just to be safe though. No widescan and we got the claims fairly easily. This being said... bring rng main or rng sub with widescan and this will be a piece of cake! Granted you're high enough level to take the rams down. With widescan, find the BatteringRam/TremorRam placeholder... kill... wait 4-5 mins, find the next one or the NM, repeat as needed. From seeing how we did it, I would suggest bringing some DD power to the fight and kill these things as quickly as possible... letting the fight go too far will lead to dreaded petrifies and such. Hope this helps a lil and/or ya found the Bloodtear Baldurf story a bit humorous.

Just finished
# Feb 09 2006 at 8:17 PM Rating: Good
Just finished this quest a few hours ago.

I started with LL, Went as BLM59/RNG9 for wide scan. Started off killing Battering Rams to get the nm to spawn. After 90 minutes, LL popped in the SE corner of the spawn area on the Allakhazam map. Took him down no problem. One horn down. There was little to no competition on this one, so it made it easy.

RR, on the other hand... Grrr.

After I got the Lumbering Horn, went ahead to the Highlands and started killing Tremor rams. Must have been a lot of competition last night, since I missed almost every other pop of Tremor Rams. >< This is also partly due to now knowing the spawn areas well. Well, after 4 hours last night, I gave up.

Went ahead this afternoon to try again. After the third ram popped up on Widescan, I see a BST 69/THF killing it. I asked him if he was just farming the rams, or looking for RR. He was just farming the ram skins so I asked him to Team up and he could keep all the drops.

So we go to it. I take the southern pop, he takes the northern. After about 90 minutes of us getting the claims on all rams but one, RR finally pops. We kill him, and I get the horn. ^^

Well, apparently, he had killed Steelfleece yesterday and it had been 26 hours since he did we figured we'd give it one more ram pop to see if Steelfleece was up. He was. We got the claim and he enlisted the help of a RDM friend and killed him. No drop though. >< Oh well.

Anyways, if any aspiring monks find yourself in competition with the rams, ask whoever else is there to team up and it will make things a lot easier. It seems like more often than not, people are there for farming, and not this quest.

A little note on the rams in the highlands. There are two spawns of tremor rams. One pops in the area noted for RR. The other is in the northern part of the zone between the entrance to Valkurm and just northwest of the crag. After a ram falls, it will respawn in about 10-12 minutes (4-5 game hours.) I don't believe RR will pop in the northern spawn area, but it doesn't hurt to take that ram out whenever you can. It helps greatly if you get lucky with the spacing between the two pops so you can have a good shot at both. When I last did it, we kept one alive to make one spawn every five minutes apart.

Good luck to anyone attempting this quest. ^^

i hate this quest

we LITERALLY run right into Lambert.. and toast him without slowing down.
...
few weeks pass
for some reason I kept the horn not knowing what it's for, and I am hunting Haty. I nab Haty get my drop (YAY!!) and WS again, Rampaging.. I mosey over, Fire II and smack it.. got both. Now to boost my 0 Norg fame >.>:;;
Killed both NM's twice in one day
# Dec 12 2005 at 9:55 PM Rating: Default
Was killing rams in LaThiene when LL spawns, while running I ask my ls how they thought a WHM51/RNG1 would do against him and after getting the go-ahead, I unleashed a blast of Holy into his face, then realized I only had 47mp remaining after that><. Thankfully I had a set of hi-ethers and a yag drink on me.
Ended up reaming him and got the horn drop, decided to check on RR. Tele'd to Dem and what do i see on my widescan seconds later, my little nm friend grazing(way beyond his supposed spawn area btw).
Two minutes later I own both horns.

Logged in again several hours later and what do I see in front of me but a giant named ram.
Breaking out Banishga II I felt the urge to melt his fat again.
Tele back to Holla (I know the spawn locations and timing almost exactly there) and killed a few more rams, and lo and behold, there's LL again as well. just in time as He's about dead, I sent an invite to a lvl 15mnk and set him on his way to being at least a decent monk.

The point to this rambling:
1) I think I can make some quick cash off my new belt, or go lvl mnk a little at least.
2) Allah's spawn maps are inaccurate as hell for the most part. Don't rely on them.
3) I'm updating and have time to burn:P

These NM's pop times seem relatively low so don't get discouraged. LL popped both times at the ruins in between the mountains, and RR spawns were both south-west of the crag.
Happy hunting^^

"I have both horns but the NPC won't give me the quest! And still, I've done the Utsusemi quest.... Does anyone know how much fame you need?"

/nod

same here. I did the necklaces, traded about 240 (thats total, not sets of 4). I did my tonko, utsu, and several of the slightyly higher lvl nin tool quests. I have both horns... Guess what?
Still want give me quest! Currently rank 5, with bastok and sandy fame around 7ish and windy fame maybe 1-2ish. I doubt fame of other cities than norg plays a role, but theres gotta be a reason I cant get this. Rank perhaps?
