Fame Misconceptions
# Oct 26 2004 at 2:59 PM Rating: Excellent
Okay, let's clear up exactly how this works.

I want you to think of the fame-raising of this quest in this way.

This quest raises fame only in Selbina.

Bastokan and San d'Orian fame use Selbina fame as a base, so increasing Selbina Fame also increases Bastok/San d'Oria fame.

Rabao uses Bastokan fame as a base. So raising Selbina Fame raises Bastokan Fame raises Rabao Fame.

Jeuno uses a Windurst/Bastok/San d'Oria fame average as a base, so raising Selbina Fame raises Bastok AND San d'Oria fame, but not Windurst fame, so Jeuno fame will go up from this quest, but slower.

This quest DOES NOT AFFECT Norg/Tenshodo fame or Windurst fame, so you have to get those on your own.

This quest does affect Norg fame in that it brings Norg fame down. Also, Windurst fame isn't factored into Jeuno fame, because you can max Jeuno fame with this quest (even if it was at zero before), and this quest doesn't affect Windurst fame, as you said.

Ok, how exactly is Rabao fame linked to Bastok, when the Rabao AH is linked to San d'Oria?? Kazham and Windurst Auctions Houses are linked to one another, just as Norg and Bastoks are.

.. why would San d'Oria or Bastok use your fame in Selbina as a bases on its fame?

Hes just saying, if you thought about it as if Sandy and Bastok used selbina as their base, it would work.

You earn Rabao fame from this quest. Even if hes wrong about Rabao being linked to bastok, and its linked to sandy, it wouldnt matter. You get sandy fame from this as well.

do you have to zone every time or can you just stand there trading it in?

The other reply wasn't too helpful so I will answer your question. You do not need to zone after you trade. You can just stand there and trade until your heart is content. :) Have fun and good luck.

Cabbages broken for Sandy?

I just did ~90 sets of cabbage (i.e. 5 cabbage each), and my fame in San d'Oria was still at 3 ("Ah, <name>. That is a name I often hear..."). When I went to Jeuno, I had fame 7 ("Why, hello, <name>. I say, literally everyone in Jeuno..."). My fame in Windurst is 6 and Bastok is 4. I had previously done 20-25 separate quests in San d'Oria before all the Selbina runs.

Has anyone else noticed very little or no fame increase in San d'Oria for turning in cabbages?

Yes, I think this quest or selbina at all can't get your fame higher then fame lvl3 in Sandy.

I've just traded excactly 480 La Theine Cabbages (That is 40 stacks of 12).
And my Sandy fame was still lvl 3.

I'll take the airship to jeuno to see what my jeuno fame lvl is now, and then to bastok to see what my bastok fame lvl is (however my bastok fame lvl was lvl 4-5 or something before i did this quest 96 times) Wonder if my lvl 1 Windurst fame is still lvl 1.

I turned is 24 stacks of Boyahda Moss. As a result, I was a hero in San'd Oria, Selbina and Bastok, I have not yet been anywhere else however, so I am not sure what I rank there.

There was a post that someone put up on this board or somewhere else on allakhazam talking about doing this quest with 50 stacks of millicorn to max out your fame in all 3 major cities, except Windurst.

After finally checking fame in Sandi, I can tell u that it is false, completely. It did not work for me, all I got to was like lvl 6 fame. And I traded in the 50 stacks. Unless I am mistaken and need to do 100 stacks to get max fame, then this does not work. If you have the money maybe try the moss as my LS said that is what shows a considerable difference.

This quest is NOT linked to Windurst. I had zero fame in Windurst when I started this quest in order to get Drain and the Black Silk Neckerchief in Bastok, and after 88 times, I STILL had zero fame in Windurst.

If you're interested in Windurstian fame (for Blaze Spikes and/or Aspir, for instance), refer to the Port Windurst quest "Something Fishy." It's way more boring than this one (if that's even possible), but it gets the job done.

I did this quest exactly 57 times. I had 24 stacks of cabbage. I did the quest to raise my fame in Sandy, but it's still level 1 fame. Have I done something wrong? Has the quest been changed?

This quest does raise your fame, that is not disputable. But, there are some quests that actually will lower fame in other cities. It is really weird, but it happens. I don't know the name of the quests that do this, but they exist.

Ok from what i understand this quest builds Fame in Jeuno, Sandoria, and Bastok. I started with lvl 3 fame in Sandy and Jeuno, and lvl 2 fame in windy. I went traded 20 stacks of millioncorn to dude in selbina (at 4 trades be stack thats 80 repeats) and went back to jeuno to find i had lvl 5 fame. My question is, if anyone knows, is assuming that my windy fame remains low, (since this quest doesnt affect fame there) what is the maximum fame in jeuno/bastock/sandy that you can get doing this quest, and whats an estimate in stacks of million corn, moss or cabbages would i need to acheive the best possible famelevel with this quest?

I've heard that its possible to acheive rank 9 in Jueno using this quest, but i was hoping someone might give a more definate answer then what ive read so far.
Quest pretty easy but boring
# Sep 03 2004 at 11:25 AM Rating: Decent
i got around 18 stacks of millicorn
sat there for about 30 mins trading 3 millicorns to the guy at a time. it's as easy of fame your going to get. got back to jueno and everything's cheap for some odd reason and i had no problem doing the gobbie bag quest.

i do recommend you feed them at least 28 stacks though that way you'll have fame maxed out.

oh it should be noted if you buy from sandoria at 49 a peice you only end up lossing 9 gil per millicorn
all cities
# Sep 03 2004 at 12:47 AM Rating: Default
I'm pretty sure that this quest actually raises your fame in all four cities.

I left Windy as fame 2, and did several full runs of cabbages. I got to level 7 fame in Jeuno, and 5 in Sandy. I did a few more and was 7 in Sandy, 6 in Bastok. I haven't done any since then and just checked Windy and Jeuno. I'm 9 in Jeuno and 6 in Windy, and I haven't been back to Windy since I started the whole thing.

So I think it raises your Jeuno fame, which in turn raises all three other cities a little less. It seems like one full load (well, 28 stacks) of cabbage raised it about one level each in Windy, Sandy, and Bastok.

All I can say is this is the quest to Raise fame in Sandy, Bastok and Jeuno.

In my case, I traded millioncorns. YES, the position of San d'Oria in the Conquest Rank does determine whether or not they are sold at Rainbroy's Grocery in south Sandy. So the best thing you do is waiting for Sandy be in 1st or 2nd place.

Ok, why millioncorns? Because they are much less inventory-consuming. Cabbages are traded in groups of 5, millioncorns in sets of 3. So 1 stack = 4 repetitions of this quest (of course moss is even better, but you will need a lot of money).

Some frequently asked questions:

Q: How many times should I do this quest?
A: Do it 200 times trading millioncorns. That means 50 stacks. It will be enough for any fame level you may be in need of.

Q: Which places are affected by Selbina fame?
A: Sand'Oria, Bastok and Jeuno. If you do the quest 200 times your Jeuno Fame will also get to its maximum level; I tested it myself and I guarantee. This theory that Jeuno fame is the minimum of the 3 main cities is totally wrong, because I got Fame 9 in Jeuno even though my fame in Windy was 0 (zero).

Q: Do I need a lot of money to do this quest?
A: You will need around 15k to repeat the millioncorn thing 200 times. If you grow millioncorns in your mog house, even better.

Good luck ^^

I have given the NPC well over 2 dozen moss's and my Jeuno fame is still at level 3. I'm from Windy and on the Titan Server that are in last place. Does that have any effect on whether or not I can get Jeuno fame?
RE: Jeuno Fame
# Sep 02 2004 at 1:25 PM Rating: Decent
You need more than 2 dozen clumps (2 stacks) to get max fame in the related areas. You need about 2 dozen STACKS (24 stacks) to get max fame in thoses areas. If the moss is selling for 8k a stack then you are losing 10% of your money which is not bad for the fame.
RE: Jeuno Fame
# Jul 17 2004 at 6:58 AM Rating: Default
As stated before jeuno fame is based on lowest of starting cities so you probably need more windurst fame, not granted by this quest.
RE: Jeuno Fame
# Jul 19 2004 at 9:54 AM Rating: Decent
I have virtually no fame in San dOria or Windurst, but have done several quests in Bastok (30?) and the selbina clay quest (Sans Ballista Down and Sauromugue Champaign). With only this I have enough fame in Jeuno to do RSE/Gobbie bag.

This is too easy... at max sandy fame, the cabbage is 21 gil per cabbage... that works out to be 105 gil per 5 cabages... and you turn them in for 100 gil per 5 cabbage... you do the math. Extremely effective fame building. I did 3 runs of 28 stacks of cabbage... that means I did the quest 201 times (If i did my math right). Should be more than enough for max fame, although I haven't checked my bastok fame yet. On another note, Poison 2 dropped from about 28k down to 22k when i was done turning them in.

On a side note... the SAM AF2 NM's were slaughtering everything in selbina zone... quite halarious. I was unequpipped except my linkshell and ice staff, but I felt I needed to help. Waited for the pally to get some decent aggro, casted Tornado... ******* turned on me, slept me before i could zone and killed me in 3 hits, lol. But my tornado took a little under half of his health down, which lead to his defeat... only a couple people my level, and all the valkurm newbs ganging up on teh ghost.
Costs
# Jul 10 2004 at 2:06 PM Rating: Decent
According to GonadSandStrife's stats of 25 stacks of Boyahda Moss = lvl 9 fame this should be the approximate cost (all prices Caitsith AH).

Stacks of Boyahda Moss go for around 8000 gil each. 8000 x 25 = 200,000 gil. Now that may seem steep, but look at it this way. 25 stacks = 300 Boyahda Mosses. 600 gil return on each, so 180,000 total return. 20,000 net gil for lvl 9 fame in Selbina, Bastok and San D'Oria. On top of that lvl 9 fame in Jeuno because its fame is affected by Bastok and San D'Oria. Now that's a bargain. Do this quest and this one only for fame in those 4 places.

The Rank of your nation in the conquest has nothing to do with wether or not the cabbage appears, from what I have experienced anyways.
The cabbages are available from Rombroy's grocery no matter the possition, Sand Oreo has been in 2nd place for quite a while now on my server and I know i have been able to buy them when it was in 3rd too.

Last I checked you could also buy the cabbages in Port Bastok from some kid. I haven't checked it out, but I trust my source on this.
