Description

The Mayor of Selbina, Abelard, wants you to find stone monuments left by a certain adventurer and copy their writings to clay. He gives you a lump of selbina clay.

How the quest works

When you talk to Abelard, he gives you a piece of clay and you are requested to bring imprints of stone monuments from around Vana'diel. These are found in all the outdoor areas, not in dungeons. Trade the clay to the monument to get an imprint, take the imprint back to Abelard and repeat for the other monuments. There are 17 monuments in total. You will receive money for each of them depending on the difficulty, and once you have done 15, you automatically receive a map for Crawlers Nest. After you get the map, you can receive the clay again for the next monument. But since you are likely to want the Crawlers Nest map before you are a high enough level to get the last two imprints (from Battallia and Sauromugue), I recommend this strategy.

The Monuments

The stone monuments are listed in chronological order:

1- South Gustaberg K10 - 800gil

"I have been traveling on the seas for close to 40 years now... But there is so much that I do not yet know about the world. People seek refuge in the towns and villages, away from the battered environment outside, interested only in what concerns them directly. To know that one is still alive, means you are still safe and living in bliss. As for myself, I have decided to devote the remaining years of my life to exploration, traveling across the continents, filling my insatiable appetite for curiosity. The world of Vana'diel is so large, how can anyone not be driven to understand more about the world that we live in?

This first engraving marks the start of my trail, leaving behind my beloved hometown of Bastok, I can only see the distant hills popping over the horizon. I wonder how many of us will stop and take a look at this engraving for generations to come. But I wish they would go forth and fulfill whatever desires and hopes they have been keeping in their hearts."

C.E. 748 Gwinheim Ironheart

2- North Gustaberg -3000 gil Head northeast of Dangruf Wadi to the stream of the waterfall. The monument lies in the cave behind the falls - 3000gil

"At the top of this mountain stands the pride of the Republic of Bastok - Palborough Mines. It seems there are plans to build a memorial to commemorate the pioneers who opened and worked on the mines there. At the time of my visit, they were still preparing the stonework for the construction. And surrounding the memorial site were tombstones... some unmarked and nameless after years of exposure to the weather. The strange thing is, our history books didn't mention much about these pioneers, and these tombs might be interesting enough to investigate them.

Perhaps it stretches back to a time when Bastok was still a poor backwater village built on a cliff, until the present day when construction of the Metalwork's was completed. But one day, a mysterious explosion accident within the mines claimed many of the Galkan miners' lives while at work. When news spread, the world was divided as to whether the Galkans who perished on the job should be considered as heroes.

But one fact remains, they are the true pioneers who opened the path of prosperity of this wasteland. And the remains buried underneath the tombs are truly the heroes, at least in my heart. As a tribute to these nameless workers, I shall rest here for the night and drink the night away."

C.E. 749 Gwinheim Ironheart

3- Konschtat Highlands G7 - 1000gil

"The strong Odin Wind blows often over the highlands. The traveling Bastokian merchants were clever enough to take notice of the raging winds and built these windmills to harness its power. The purpose was clear: flour milling. Bastok is the biggest cotton producer in the world. But to feed the hungry nation, wheat from San d'Oria is a necessity that cannot be ignored too. San d'Oria has a huge surplus of wheat. Bastok then buys over the wheat from San d'Oria at a low price, processes them in these mills and in turn, sell the flour as a trade commodity. And the link to this trade relation between San d'Oria and Bastok lies in these windmills! Interestingly, even when 2 countries are faced in a war, both sides can be embroiled in a conflict for ages but no matter what, there is surely a time when a battle has to stop for soldiers to sit down and have some freshly baked bread.

Cheers to the merchants!"

C.E. 750 Gwinheim Ironheart

4- East Ronfaure G11 - 800gil

"The Ronfaure forest where I am standing, had been the royal hunting grounds for the Elvaan Royalty for generations, and its beauty has been more or less preserved from ancient times. Those who are brave would flock down to the annual Autumn Hunting Festival in this forest, pitting their skills against each other for the best game. Alas, though the event was grand, I was pretty bored of it. One of the reasons is the game animals available. In the past, people used to hunt pheasants and deer's here, but ever since their extinction, they have been replaced by Wild Sheep and Rams. It's so obvious what one can possibly hunt here, there is no sense of accomplishment anymore. Furthermore, these sheep have a voracious appetite and grazed constantly on the grass and the roots of trees. Ultimately, the fabric of the ecology of the forest will be at stake. If that ever happens, I hope that this engraving of my thoughts of the beauty of the forest can still be read by our descendents."

C.E. 751 Gwinheim Ironheart

5- Jugner Forest H12, 2 tigers guard the cave to the stone - 1000gil

"Trekking through the dark and gloomy foliage in the afternoon, my hungry pet bird, Molten, suddenly started pecking on the soil beneath us and dug up a funguar. Although this funguar Molten found was a common species, it kind of reminded me of the rumored existence of the legendary 'King Truffle'. Using Molten's keen sense of smell, I managed to find more funguars along the way. Looks like tonight's menu is going to be Funguar Stew. Lost in the forest for what seems like an eternity, finding such funguars is such a blessing to us hungry travelers. And they can save you too! Of course, you do have to remember to feed your pet chocobo first...."

C.E. 755 Gwinheim Ironheart

6- Rolandberry Fields K11, Beware of Evil Weapons - 3000gil

"The warm and soothing Garuda Wind whistles across the fields. This whole area is occupied by the orchards where the popular Rolandberries are cultivated and grown. The fruit has a crunchy texture like apples, with a tart taste but just a tint of sweetness. It leaves behind a very unique aroma in your mouth and makes a refreshing end to a meal. The exotic fruit also manage to attract even the mainly-carnivorous Arcanas. Recently, to protect the orchards from the nocturnal Goblin bandits and the Yagudos, extra security and patrols have been tightened. Not only is the fruit valuable, but what lies inside is also valuable. Beetle grubs live inside the seeds of the fruit, and the mucus they secrete ferments the fruit, making its taste even more tart than it originally was. Connoisseurs around the world would pay a high price for a taste of a fermented Rolandberry. Harvesting these fruits and exporting them around the world, this was how the once-tiny village of Jeuno grew and prospered to become the Grand Duchy it is today."

C.E. 757 Gwinheim Ironheart

7- Battalia Downs Battalia Island to the south - 10,000gil

"There are many tomb mounds here in Battalia. According to legends, our first ancestors, who were created by the goddess Altana, first set foot on Vana'diel right here, in Battalia. A long time ago, when the Elvaans were nearing their end, they would travel here as a final resting place for them. As a symbol of wanting to get closer to God, countless other races came from distant lands, embarking on long pilgrimages to come here. To have such a strong religious faith is commendable. However, I have a different view. First and foremost, I would enjoy life as much as possible, respecting others' ways of life at the same time. Religion... well, that can be secondary. Life is short, you don't really have that much free time to think too much into things. I know I would be laughed at by my Galkan friends if I told them that...

However, there will still be people who believe in their faiths for a long time to come. Similarly there will also be people who are feeling lost with their lives seeking for a purpose."

C.E. 759 Qwinheim Ironheart

8- West Ronfaure I10 - 800gil

"It's been 10 years since I last stepped on this land. The Orcs who have been dwelling far up north have started to show some signs of activity, and that worries me a lot. This kingdom's very fabric of livelihood and pride lies in this forest. But the Elvaans are a race that are very proud of their own culture and treat the others as crude lower-class barbarians. They think the power of the Orcs is too insignificant and is no match against their chivalry. But, let this old man prophesize, that one day in the near future, tens of thousands... no... hundreds of thousands of Orc soldiers will invade the forest and take over this lush and beautiful environment. Though it is wishful thinking on my part, I hope someone who is kind enough to take time to read my plea on this engraving, would take heed of my warning."

C.E. 761 Gwinheim Ironheart

9- Valkurm Dunes E9 - 1000gil

"The view may be beautiful, but the broken grass at our feet is testimony to the inhospitality of this place. The shallows repel anchoring ships, with nothing for miles but sand. Indeed, these dunes are ill-fit for any purpose save sunbathing. One day I happened upon a young swimmer struggling for air. I swam out to save her, and as a gesture of thanks she led me to a fascinating place. To a small inlet she guided me, to show me the dolphins, no doubt. None were there, but I noticed the bay was a natural harbor. I was a sailor in youth, so I knew this to be an important discovery! The harbor I named "Selbina." Upon seeing her name inscribed on my map, the girl clapped her hands in joy.

--Gwynham Ironheart, 762 Crystal Era."

10- Pashow Marshlands F6 - 1000gil

"This marsh that I'm standing on, has been the domain of one of the Arcanas known as Quadavs for centuries. Many explorers who have tried coming here never returned. But in order for me to complete mapping out this region, it is a dangerous sacrifice I am willing to take for the better of the future generation. Although the risks are high, as I filled in each square on my empty map, the sense of accomplishment kept me going. In the midst of my exploration though, I was caught by the Quadavs when I absent-mindedly lit up a torch. I was taken to their village and found that their houses were made of various precious metals, as a tribute to their own gods. Initially the Quadavs thought of us as a barbaric race when they saw me lighting a crude reed torch with Tarutaru fire magic. But after I taught them the intricate skills of blacksmithing and metallurgy, they were grateful for this unexpected lesson. Seeing that this skill is invaluable to them, the Quadavs set me free and even escorted me on a tour around the marsh."

C.E. 763 Gwinheim Ironheart

NOTE: The one in Pashow is sometimes guarded by a Malboro.

11- La Theine Plateau J7, Go down the gorge at H7 and follow the cave roads to the monument - 1000gil

"This plateau is a land of many features, but by far the most memorable is the Crag of Holla.

I call it a structure, for I have no other word. It is surely not a rock born of nature, nor does it seem to be a hall built by the gods, as the priestly scholars say.

Yet there are no seams in its bone-white surface, and it is faintly warm to the touch. But through a fortunate accident, I have found proof of its artificial origins.

I shall head north to the land of Valdeaunia to verify my findings. I ear this may be the longest, most perious journey of my life.

I leave my daughter Enid to find her own path.

May the gods watch over her in my stead."

C.E. 764 Gwinheim Ironheart

12- Sauromugue Champaign I9, Accessible by going thru Garlaige - 10,000gil

"We live on 2 main continents: Quon Continent and the uncharted Mindelcia Continent. Linking these 2 continents are the Straits of Jueno, also the narrowest straits in Vana'diel. Beyond the straits lies Sauromugue, the Gateway to Mindelcia. At the peak of the San d'Orian Empire, it once occupied this land with a castle built for the Royal Cavalry. But on one night, 3 Tarutaru mages infiltrated the castle, turning the chocobos wild and defeated the Cavalry royally. And that was how San d'Oria lost its hold on this land. This is the well-known 'Fall of Sauromugue' incident. However, the military schools in San d'Oria never included this in their history books. Since I'm here on these historically notorious grounds, I couldn't help but look around this blood-spilled lands. But what's past has passed...

There's not much use harping on about the past, nothing will be accomplished. I personally hope to build good ties with the Tarutarus and Yagudos. Who knows, one day a bridge may be built to link the continents together in the future."

C.E. 770 Enid Ironheart

13- Meriphataud Mountains J10 - 1000gil

"Doragora's Spine: Tarutaru for "Spine of the Heavenly Dragon." It is made of that same white material as the holy crags. However, this is the first I have seen so exposed. A good portion of it is suspended in open space, no less. In San d'Oria the papsque claims that they were monuments built by Altana in honor of the Elvaan. All believed him but I feel that this cannot be true. This is merely conjecture, but I feel they resemble some sort of road or pipeline... But carrying what? If only I could show my father. The white crags, spines, points and lines... What did my father discover at the end of his journey? I wish I knew."

C.E. 773 Enid Ironheart

14- Tahrongi Canyon E5 - 1000gil

"If you take a look at Tahrongi itself, it is an inhospitable place to be in: undulating terrain, harsh weather, and not forgetting the monsters that dwell here! But what pains me more than all of the above, is to be struck down with heatstroke. Before I embarked on my journey on this continent of Mindelcia, I thought I had enough traveling experience to handle most difficulties. And yet, I have no idea how to deal with a heatstroke. Not even White Magic helps...

As the high temperature sapped my energy away little by little, I struggled to look for a safe and shady spot to rest, but there were none to be found. At that very moment, I looked up and saw a white object in the distance... it was the fossil remains of an ancient dragon! And nearby, I found a cave by the side of the canyon wall. I learnt that I can replenish some fluids by picking the cacti that grow around the cave, and rested inside this cave until I was well again.

I am grateful that I'd chanced upon some kind men who taught me survival skills in this arid desert and so I engraved their names below in honor of them. For the three brothers who perished later under a heat wave: Gilbo, Maji and Naville - I salute you."

C.E. 774 Enid Ironheart

15- West Sarutabaruta G9 - 800gil

"Now, five years after I first crossed the Jeuno Straits and began my slow southland survey of Mindartia, I have arrived at the southernmost land: the plains of Sarutabaruta. The Tarutaru who live here are a kind and friendly people; it is hard to believe their ancestors plotted the conquest of the world during the age of great magic. They too worship the Goddess Altana, yet they believe that she has a form here on Vana'diel called the Star Sibyl, who lives in a giant tree. I met the Star Sibyl, and she took my hand and spoke to me of everything from the current state of our world to the unseeable future. It was a wonderful experience. The Tarutaru have agreed to give me a magical ship to speed the rest of my Survey. I thank the Star Sibyl and her kind people."

C.E. 777 Enid Ironheart

16- East Sarutabaruta K6 - 800gil

"In the land of Sarutabaruta, comparing the cute little Tarutarus and the innocent romantic Mithras to others, no other civilizations in other parts of the world have as long a technological history as them. Take for example, the Horutoto Ruin towers that can be found nearby. Although the towers seemed to be found only within Sarutabaruta itself, deep below, the hidden parts can spread out far beyond the domain. I remember the last letter that I received from my father, Gwinheim, he drew a sketch of a tower with a caption under it that says 'Tower that looks like a Palm'. But the catch is, he found that tower in Baldonia, the northern lands of Quon Continent! From a distance, these Horutoto Towers bear a striking resemblance though.

This shows that the widespread ring of influence of an advanced culture existed in Vana'diel long ago, and I think that influence is still lingering on until this very day. Or am I just thinking too much?"

C.E. 778 Enid Ironheart

17- Buburimu Peninsula J5 - 1000gil

"I am now at a place called Buburimu Peninsula. There is a lighthouse situated south of the Peninsula which the Tarutarus call 'Kibubu Lighthouse'. Names aside, the lighthouse has been very useful in guiding merchant ships and fishing boats that pass the peninsula. Made of natural magical rocks found only in this area, the lighthouse is made simply by stacking these rocks into a form of a tower. At night, the stones emit an eerie glow piercing through the darkness. I wonder what kind of rock it could be?

I do have my own theory. Long ago, this area was said to be filled with ores and minerals. And among them is the mythical Orihalcon ore. Centuries passed and the minerals eroded the surrounding rocks and got combined together as the minerals seeped into the rocks. So all that's left to do is for a Tarutaru to cast magic on them and a lighthouse stone is created! But there are more questions that surfaced - why are these ores only present in this region?"

C.E. 778 Enid Ironheart

NOTE: If you choose to continue, you get two more pieces of clay for on of the last two monuments, and you recieve a Map of Crawler's Nest.

"I have come to a place with countless mounds of earth. According to legend, it was here that our ancestors, created by the Goddess, first descended to Vana'diel.

Since time immemorial, elderly Elvaan have come here to await their final test. Many pilgrims of other races, too, have ended their journeys here, wishing to be close to the Nurturer.

Of course, faith and discipline are virtues. But life is to be enjoyed, and the lives of the others respected. Faith can wait until these two things are accomplished.

I told this to a Galka friend, and he bellowed a hearty laugh. Yet I could see his point: those who only a short while have no time for such thoughts.

To think of these things and wonder is the duty of the living.

I 'think' that they change the texts periodically. A lot of them are different. For instance, Tahrongi's is also a 'great' deal different than what's written.

But it doesn't really matter what the text is. I mean, if they're doing the quest and interested in pushing along buffer space, reading, let them do it. Don't post it.

Would anybody happen to know about the fame for this quest? As in, which city do you receive the fame in? I know the Selbina quest where you turn in millioncorn, cabbage, or moss goes towards fame for Sandy and Bastok. Do these quests also go for fame in those cities?

No you need the first 15 - the two you dont need to get the map are Sauramauge Campaign and the Batallia Downs one. If you havent passed in the other 15 then you are not gonna get the map. You need to do the easy ones to get the map. So no, they werent wrong, you are.

i see where the titan's gate is. How do you open it? Tried shouting for open but noone would help.
RE: batallia downs clay
# Mar 06 2005 at 7:38 PM Rating: Decent
The gate is openable via a switch system that's fairly simple, once you understand how it works. It's like a puzzle of doors, to a degree. Once you hit the switch for one, you have to advance onto the next area. Then, when you hit the next switch, you're trapped and forced to go forward.

If you go to the section on Eldieme Necropolis, someone posted the easy way to get through with only two people. It's not really that hard at all, with two people. Took me one try, no deaths. This was horribly easy, compared to trying to find someone to get the Banishing Gate #3 open in Garlaige Citadel.

Hey there! :-)

The info shows (G-11) for East Ron, but I found it at (K-6), far East of the Zambibi river. Maybe there are either two monuments, or SE has moved the location?

Hope this helps! Take care! ;~)

The directions given here are really hard to follow. I, level 36 thf/war, along with a level 58 blm/whm, and 40 whm/bst tried getting this one last night. On a side note, the floor in Eldieme Necropolis does NOT taste very good... and if you go through the door across from Shiva's Gate instead of Titan's Gate, you'll most likely die, and be camped by that blasted Wolf. Unless you have a blm with you that doesn't die, so they can tractor you around a bit, you'll probably have to HP. Pay careful attention to these directions and make sure you understand EVERYTHING about them before you even consider attempting this. Also, it helps if you have some knowledge of the area, and maybe a map. I went in there for the first time doing this last night and that was probably a very bad idea. This one makes for a nice Linkshell Event though. Since the people doing this with me were the only ones with the ls equipped, I thought we should name this event "Help Tawny get to level 35" since that's all that seemed to be happening, lol.
Good luck if you plan on trying this, I hope you're more successful than I was.
RE: Eldieme
# Mar 06 2005 at 7:46 PM Rating: Decent
This area is incredibly dangerous in that you have to pick your re-cast points for Sneak/Invis 'very' efficiently and quickly. The Tomb Wolves in every hallway will continually patrol the hallway. They 'will' stop, but they'll keep on patrol after a few moments. Ample time to re-cast Sneak/Invis, if you know the way they do so.

I've been here for my Genkei 1 stuff, so I saw their patrol. Not to mention, I tasted more than my fair share of Eldieme's finely flushed floor while trying to do my Teleport quests. I think I soon realized I was in the wrong place, and turned off the game in exhaustion 'til the next day.

Anyway, yes, read through the entire instructions for the area before you traverse it. But that should be a no-brainer. Also, carry your 'own' Sneak/Invis stuff. Do not expect your WHM or BLM friend to simply be a god and cover you all the time. It's not that easy. Buying powder isn't that expensive, anyway.

Me, myself? I did this in a single try with a friend of mine. We caught aggro from the Bomb-class monster, but took care of it. We made it to the zone okay, no problems.

South Gustaberg
Location: (K-10)
Reward: 800G
Easy to find, just check location

North Gustaberg
Location: F-7
Reward: 3,000G
You must travel through Dangruf Wadi to get to this. Zone into Dangruf from South Gustaburg and head to the Northwest corner... if you are around level 30 or lower you may need to sneak up to get through this section, but eventually you'll zone out into North Gustaberg at the base of the waterfall and there's a cave behind it with the monument.

Konschtat Highlands
Location: G-7
Reward: 1,000G
This one's simple again, there's a cave on the north face of the mountains in this location that contains the stone.

East Ronfaure
Location: G-11
Reward: 800G
Another easy one, it's near the zone to King Ranperre's Tomb.

Junger Forest
Location: H-12
Reward: 1,000G
Again, easy.. just follow river to south (along the west bank) and you'll come to a cave, be careful of tiger spawns in here.

Rolanberry Fields
Location: K-11
Reward: 3,000G
This one seems tough at first because the spine is in the way, but if you go to the north end of the spine you will find you can easily walk up the slope and over it, problem solved.

Batallia Downs
Location: J-11
Reward: 10,000G
This one is a bit harder (hence it being worth more). The location if you look on map is in fact on the south island to batallia. In order to get to this, you must enter Eldieme Necropolis at the south entrance (the southernmost mound on the mainland in Batallia). You will need sneak if you are below mid 60s for this (but only sneak). Stay to the left wall after zoning in and eventually you will come to a very small room with a torch in the middle. You need to go through the Titan's Door to your left, and the easiest way to do this is to just /shout or send a tell to any higher levels in the area and ask them polietly to "open the door". They will understand what you mean. After this, follow the path until you come to a large chamber, where if you run out into the middle you will fall down a hidden hole (directly in center of chamber). From here, you can follow map, or if you dont have one go left, left, right. This will zone out onto the island, and the monument is to your right.

West Ronfaure
Location: I-10
Reward: 800G
Easy as pie, its in the ruins here.

Valkurm Dunes
Location: E-9
Reward: 1,000G
Another easy one, its in the cave at the end of the beach.

Pashhow Marshlands
Location: F-6
Reward: 1,000G
Another easy one. Careful of the malboro beside it.

La Theine Plateau
Location: J-7
Reward: 1,000G
This one is a bit trickier... Go to the Ephemere (the lake in the northern center part of region). Go north of it and down into the valley there (there is a path leading down at the south edge of the valley). Once down at the bottom, follow that valley east, then you'll go through a cave into another valley which you follow into another cave and into a third valley. At the end of this third valley is the monument... It's a long run, I suggest a choco.

Sauromugue Champaign
Location: I-9
Reward: 10,000G
This one is REALLY tricky. It requires a minimum of 4 people. Zone into Garlaige Citadel (If you don't know where this is, don't even try this one). After zoning in, go left, straight, straight, right (Watch for cracks in ground, you can fall through them). This takes you to the first banishing gate, which has 2 switches on either side. Each person must stand on one switch, and then the door will open allowing you through. Caution for up to this point Citadel bats (no others), Skeletons and Revenants will aggro by sound (if you go the right way you won't get close enough for any of them to detect you) and beetles will aggro by sight (you WILL need this for there are 2 beetles near the gate that will more than likely be there unless an exp group is killing them that deep in). After you all get on the switches and get through the gate, everyone needs sneak (only sneak). Stay to either the left wall or right wall (both work, they go in a circle) until you are out of the stone-walled area and into the sand-walled area. From here just stay to the left (a couple paths go in to the left but they'll be quick dead ends.. if you see a Tainted Flesh or whatever then you don't need to bother turning, that's a dead end) until you see bombs in the room before you. Stop here and invisy up, then go through the room and into the next, where you will exit out the left entrance in the back. CAUTION: BOTH BOMBS AND POTS AGGRO MAGIC (bombs also aggro sight) SO DON'T CAST NEAR THEM. After this, follow the path up and then left and you'll see the 3rd Banishing Gate on your right (don't worry, the second one is on the other side and not important, you didn't miss it). The switches for this one are more spread out, and are in the following rooms. There are 8 total rooms just past the gate along that path, one switch in each of the first two (left and right) and one in each of the last two. In order to get to the last two, you need to detour through the second set of rooms because of a crack in the hallway floor. You will need sneak throughout this area, and invis for any bombs. After you are all on the switches, you will see the message saying the 3rd gate is opening, and you can run through. Once through the third gate, hang a right and then follow the path along (stay to left wall) and you will zone out into Sauromugue again. Off to the left a little ways is the stone monument. Careful because weapons and skinks are near it that aggro lower levels (<50).

This one is out in the open, its in the souther half of the square on map but not against the back wall.. if you're having trouble finding it try to ride through the center of that square, its on the north side of the crack in the ground.

Great walk through guide!

The ONLY thing I found wrong was here.

------------------------

North EAST not west in Wadi, after you zone, walk and CROSS a bridge to the other side.

Save people a few minutes. Besides that, real nice.

The one in West Sarutabaruta is up on a hill so if you are getting close to it and can't find it, it's on the hill. You will have to go all the way north and find a way up onto the western wall and come back south to G-9.

Sorry About Multiple post! I just wanted to help clarify this particular clay. If you Go to the first entrance to South Gustaberg you can then enter Dangruf Wadi. Head N or NE on map entire way. I had no map and this worked well. You will have to take 2 geysers up to next levels. You will then come onto the stream there is a bridge take it and it will get you to the left side of stream. Follow that to end. There are pugs and gobs that may aggro. They were easy prey to me at 31. Reward for this clay is 3000 gil.

La Theine stone monument
# Nov 10 2004 at 6:43 PM Rating: Decent
I believe when they say 'go through a few caves' they mean enter ordelle's caves and exit on the far end. I came out of ordelle's caves and there was no apparent way out of the ravine, however there was something that looked like a tomb stone. Not sure if this was a stone monument, but good luck.

You go down the first valley at f-6 and the one you come out of ordelles at is the one at h-10. If this isn't a stone monument I apologize.

When they say, "You go through a few caves", they give you a starting location of where the caves begin at. They very literally mean, you go through a few caves. There's a rather mediocre network of caves running right under La Theine Plateau.

As for the post on "You don't have to go through Ordelles Caves"... You 'can not' reach the Monument any other way than doing this. So, no d'uh you don't have to go through the caves.

This still doesn't help that much.

The other forum says to head to Wadi's Geyser at J-3.

I headed to J-3 and got beaten up by a whole bunch of Goblins (I'm a BLM 22). What am I supposed to be looking for? Is this another Geyser that transports you or what?
RE: dangruf wadi
# Mar 06 2005 at 7:53 PM Rating: Decent
This is horribly easy to do as long as you have the map, which you 'should' have. And yes, being above level 30, which only takes like a week from level 22, helps tremendously. Don't complain because you're too lazy to bother being smart. We're not your babysitters, nor your parents.
RE: dangruf wadi
# Nov 15 2004 at 8:25 PM Rating: Decent
First off, as a BLM ,don't even attempt this alone below lvl30 unless you have people with you. In area J3, there is a geyser you stand on which will boost you up to a higher level just like the earlier ones in the dungeon. From there, follow the path. Easy.

if you are lower level and want to do this quest a willing friend with tractor and raise can make your life easy, especially if theyre doing the same quest at the time.
Let your friend/party work their way up to the hard areas in sauromuge and batallia, switch yourself to a level 1 job, die, and let them tractor you up, it works.

RE: easy
# Mar 06 2005 at 7:56 PM Rating: Decent
No. You can't even see that far. He probably forgot to mention that he 'assumes' you can tractor into Batallia. Not like it matters. The Batallia Monument is easy, requiring only 2 people instead of nearly a whole party full, and a lot less walking. Try to buy the map in Jeuno, first.

The given text is completely off. I am sitting at my TV screen looking at the text. It is as follows:

I've been a sailor for over forty years, yet I cannot grasp the concept of the world as a whole. Then again, those who live in cities know even less than I.
They are content knowing only of the things around them. I cannot blame them for choosing to live this way, as curiousity is, more often than not, a dangerous trait.
But I have sworn to use the rest of my life--a life I had once thought lost when I was shipwrecked--to indulge this insatiable curiosity (sic?) of mine, and to uncover the truths of Vana'diel.
I have decided to leave my first message here, on this hill overlooking my homeland of Bastok. It is the first record of a journey that I hope will benefit all the peoples of Bana'diel.
--Gwynham Ironheart, 748 Crystal Era.

I think this quest may be the single most revealing quest for Vana'diel's history and background. What other quests and missions give in snippets, this quest as a whole has all together. (Plus, you can't beat the rewards, since I usually get most of them while doing other things)
RE: South Gustaberg
# Mar 06 2005 at 7:59 PM Rating: Decent
This quest is probably the single most revealing of Vana'diel's history. Which is why you should stop wasting space, posting it on the forums. If someone wants to read it, let them read it authentically. It, otherwise, just wastes a crapload of room on the forums.

That, and the text changes periodically, and it's never "completely off". It's just slightly variented.

i wanted to reiterate that to get the map, you need to do the 15 easy quests, not just any 15. The 10000 gil 'bonus' clays do not help you get the map. I can confirm this, as I had 14 easy ones and eldieme necropolis completed and did not recieve a map until i turned in the last "easy" clay. The CN map was invaluable to me when i was hunting chests fro my RDM af armor. now to do the the last saro clay...

The monument is located at G-9 up on the hill. The slope at the top of G-7 will lead you up the hill, which will then lead you to the monument.

Hope this helps. ^^

I have slowly been doing these clays while farming and taking care of quests. I am having dificulty finding the one in Sarutabaruta West. I think it is up on a ledge.

Where is the entrance up to G-9? It may be right in front of me cause it was late last night when I wondered by there from Giddeus (helping someone with the Dragon). I'll look again but didnt see it.

Thanks

This is a great quest because you can always have some clay with you and grab the impression on your way through most areas. my only problem is I forgot wich ones I have done. Is there any way of finding out wich ones have been completed? I just grabbed the one in la theine plateau today thanks to the info on this thread. Before that i was running around the plateau like a fool. Thanks for the info. http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/profile.xml?52680

You can always ask Abelard for the location of one of the areas you have not completed.
