Summary

Create your own crystal ball to have your fortune told.

Walkthrough

Start by talking to Kurou-Morou in Lower Jeuno. She asks for a crystal ball in order to tell your fortune. To do so, you need to get an Ahriman Lens and dip it in a pool in the Maze of Shakhrami.

Ahriman Lenses are dropped by Ahrimans (floating eye-type things, similar to that you kill with the dragon for Rank 3). You can find these in Ranguemont Pass, Beaucedine Glacier, Xarcabard and Castle Zvahl Baileys, and maybe other places as well. Lenses can drop in any of these places. This lens is Ex and cannot be traded or purchased from the Auction House.

Once you have the Lens, take it to the Maze of Shakhrami. The Rockwell is located at G-5 of the first map when entering from Tahrongi Canyon. It's easy to find without a map - just follow the left wall. Once you reach the Rockwell, trade the lens to it.

There's some debate over exactly how long it takes to turn the lens into a sphere, but somewhere between 2 minutes and 24 Earth hours later, you can return to withdraw the Divination Sphere by clicking on the Rockwell. You can leave the Maze during this time and come back later.

Return to Kurou-Morou and receive your reward. The reward is just fame and the ability to have your fortune read. If you get your fortune read on three separate days, talking to him on a fourth day will trigger the quest Never to Return.

Tried to confirm when exactly the lense turns into a divination sphere. Traded right before 12pm japan time... no divination sphere. As soon at clock struck 12:00 *** midnight, got my sphere.
Waiting took half hour for me

Maybe it takes a JP day of start of quest to getting the sphere.

I did the tarut card quest today, and I noticed I already had this quest started (dunno when I started it). I fought a few ahrimans at about 10 AM EST and got a lens (Xarcarbard (sp?) first eye). I then went to the maze (about 10:30 am est) and threw it in. I tried to retrieve, said it wasnt ready. Came back a half hour later (11:05 AM EST) and got the sphere.

The reward for this quest, other than fame, is the ability to be able to do the sleepga II quest, as stated by MANY of the previous posters. Sleepga II usually goes from 500k-3mil depending on the server. Happy?

I'm sorry, but I think it'd be cool to go and steal someone else's orb.
Really, would your character sift through the pool and everyone else's ahriman lenses just to find the one that's yours?
takes forever
# Jul 21 2006 at 12:44 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah this things takes forever to change I though maybe a game day went had to go do sky stuff game back still not turn after 3 hours. So I logged there will check when I come back in 3 weeks if it hasn't changed in 3 rl weeks I'll be wtf.

for those slightly lower level people trying to get one, it is also definite that the amrihan's inside of Ranguemont Pass do drop these near the zone to Beaucedine Glacier... I know the do for a fact as I've gotten 2 of them in the past from there during farming runs with a friend for Amrihan tears ^_^

My guess is you have to wait for a certain moon phase to pass (for transformation). Note the big open hole above the Rockwell.
Clarify please

I've traded my lens to the fountain at G-5 and wiated a full 9 hours, and it wouldn't pop yet so I logged out.

Next day, I log in at 15:30 (30minutes since JP New day). It still wouldn't give me it. Does this mean I have to wait another full day? Was I not allowed to log out for this?

Please Help! ^^

The following real life day after midnight Japan time (11am Eastern / 8am Pacific) is when your teleport scroll reward will be ready for you by the NPC.

This is a quote from the quest, Missionary Man. It tells you exactly what we've been wondering here. Hope this helps.

So, what you're saying is you have to wait 'til the next 11 AM EST rolls around before the ball will be ready? So, if I turn in the lens at 10:30 AM, I only have to wait a half-hour?
got it done.

This is just a hypothosis, so don't rate me down on this ^^;.

Korou-Morou gives 3 different types of fortunes; Financial, Romance, and General. Then rates them with either a Poor, Fair, Good, and Excellent.

Here's my theory, IF you get Korou-Morou to give you an Excellent fortune on all three types, will your cast lots, item drops, charm succession, ect.. become overall better?

I've not been able to prove my theory but it's an interesting theory.

cast lot won't change in any way as this being pure random... you imagine in what kind of **** SE would be if people get to know that what's random isn't really random lol !!

ummm actuall.. there is no such thing as "random" in video games.
the game uses a random number generator to generate "random" numbers. These rngs takes lots of factors into acount and come up with a number based on those factors..however if you knew how the rng worked and had knwledge of all the factors (pretty much imposible though) you could predict what the number would be.

as my lots suck i think that there is a char stat that afects you lot generations. course this last part is just my opinon. but no it's not truly "random" course then again, is anything?

Timing
# Jun 29 2004 at 4:46 PM Rating: Good
What they mean by timing is tomorrow Japan time. if you give it to the fountain at 11:59 PM Tokyo time then you'd need to only wait til 12:00 AM Tokyo time for it to finish.

Regarding Ahriman Lens Drops...
# May 10 2004 at 3:00 AM Rating: Default
You can kill the Floating Eyes in Maze Of Shakrami and get the lens. I just did this quest. Also in the newer strategy guide it also says it only takes one vanadiel day for the divination sphere to come from the lens...

But it hasn't happened and it's been two game days. So square needs to get it together ^ ^

If it's the official guide you mean, then blame BradyGames... NOT SE.
RE: Regarding Ahriman Lens Drops...
# Apr 27 2005 at 12:01 AM Rating: Good
Actually, Square/Enix approved and authorized that strategy guide by Bradygames™, and as per their usual deal haven't authorized any other company to write one, even though Bradygames has systematically shown itself to be either incompetant or just plain careless when it comes to these guides.

I don't blame Square/Enix for, say, this individual mistake, (even though I spent a good hour or so waiting before realizing it wasn't one Vana'diel day, but one Japan day,) but I do blame them for historically entrusting their english guide books to a company that never seems to check up on their information, or even do basic proof reading.

Keep in mind, this is the same guide book that says that thief makes a terrible sub for a DD because thieves wear light armor! =D

you can also steal ahriman lenses. And yes, blame SE blindly lol.
