Summary

Each week a different magical pattern appears inside a treasure chest somewhere. Give it to Guttrix and he'll reward you.

Walkthrough

UNDERSTANDING THIS QUEST

First of all, you will talk to Guttrix in Lower Jeuno. At any given time, only people of a certain race and gender can do this quest. When you speak to Guttrix he will tell you the current race/gender, and the area you must go to. For example, he may say that the current week is Male Hume, in Ordelle's Cave. This will change each Vana'diel week (8 real hours.)

FYI - Let's say you are Male Hume and it's your Vana'diel week. You have a key and are searching for a chest, but your time runs out (let's say it switches to Tarutaru Female) before you find one. When you open that chest, you will not get the magical pattern. However, if you open the chest during your race/gender's time and obtain the magical pattern, then you are safe. You can bring this pattern to Guttrix at any time and receive one of the pieces of your RSE.

Now, you need to go to the area and find a chest. There is only one chest at a time, and it will spawn randomly in one of several different spawning points. Once you open it with the proper key, it will respawn within 5 minutes or so at another random spawn point.

That brings us to the real meat of this quest:

  • Finding keys.
  • Finding the chest.

Note that you do not need this quest active to find a key. However, the keys (like all keys) are Rare Items - you can't carry more than one at a time.

Once you open the chest, you will receive a Magical Pattern. Again, this is Key Item - you can only carry one.

FYI - Yes, thieves can pick these chests and they will receive the pattern. Of course, you will still need to run back and forth to Jeuno each time you get one.

Bring this pattern to Guttrix, who will offer you your choice of the 4 RSE pieces. Repeat.

TIPS AND INFORMATION

The following information is copied directly from Anonymous's post. It's organized so well already, there was no point in reordering it, so I've dropped the whole thing right here in the hopes that more people will see it. I'm disappointed the poster was anonymous -- if this is you and you would like some credit, please let me know and I'll be happy to put your name up here.

Check out Shigun's post, 'Quest Information' for some very essential links. You should absolutely print out the treasure map (more later) for whichever dungeon you plan to visit. The online timer is also very useful in planning your excursion.

  • The quest is fame based. There are different theories on how Jeuno fame is calculated.. what I can tell you for *certain* is that attaining more fame in any other city will add to your fame in Jeuno in some way. The rough estimate of 40-50 total quests completed seems about right to me. Repeating a quest over and over again *does* count.
  • The goblin will tell you what magical pattern is available on any given week, and where it is. * The pattern will be in one of three dungeons, and can be found in a treasure chest. You need the maps available thanks to Shigun's post to reliably find the chest.
  • At any given time, only one chest exists within each dungeon. While its exact location is random, it will always be in one of 15-20 possible spots. See maps for this.
  • You need a key, unique to each dungeon, to open a chest in that dungeon. The key is a rare drop. You will hear a lot of information regarding which mobs drop the key. The truth is that almost any of the higher level mobs in each dungeon can drop the key. Some appear much more likely to drop than others.. but I have gotten keys off of mobs that "do not drop the key".. It REALLY pays to have a theif with you to help with key drops.
  • Unlike some keys.. this one must be traded with the Chest to open it. Once you open the chest, the key is gone, and you will need to find another one. Keys are RareEX..so you can only have one at any given time.
  • Once the chest has been opened, it will disappear. If it was opened by someone undergoing this quest, it will respawn in another location *immediately*.. there is little to no delay. However, if some unkind soul opens the chest purely for looting purposes, and is not there for Racial Gear.. it can take up to 30 minutes to respawn. So please be nice and do not open the chest unless it is your turn for Racial Gear.
  • If you are in the wrong place at the wrong time, or do not have the quest active, and attempt to open the chest, you will not receive the magic pattern.
  • The magical pattern needed to get a piece of racial gear is a Key Item. This means, once you have gotten the pattern, you need to return to the goblin in Jeuno before you can get another. He will let you choose which of the four pieces you want.
  • At any given time, only one Race & Gender is elligible to receive Racial Gear. For instance, he may tell you Elvaan Male armor can be found at Ordelle's Caves. This means.. no one except for an Elvaan Male can receive the magical pattern. In other words.. there is NO FARMING. You can't get anybody else's armor. And you can only get each piece once. Once you have received all four pieces, the quest will end, and cannot be repeated.
  • This period of elligibility will last for one game week, or approximately 8 real hours. Unless you are experienced and very well prepared, you will have trouble getting four pieces in this amount of time. Once the week is up, you need to wait 7 game weeks before you can try again (generally about 2-3 real days). The quest will cycle through each race/gender in sequence. It helps to know the sequence, as well as the sequence of the eight days in a vandiel week. See the online clock in Shigun's post.
  • The three dungeons are not of comparable difficulty. One is significantly harder, and one is significantly easier. I do not want to completely spoil the quest for ppl who have done their homework.. but suffice it to say that some scouting/exploration/key hunting *before* your racial gear is available is highly recommended.
  • The time restriction of one game week applies only to finding a magical pattern. Once you have the pattern, however, it can be turned in at any time for a piece of armor. So, if you are pattern-hunting in a dungeon, keep trying until the very last minute.
  • American players tend to get very competitive, and maybe even a little rude ( /em recalls players refusing to give him a Raise) during this quest. This really isn't necessary guys! Everyone can get a piece of armor much faster if you play cooperatively. Just remember, as soon as one player opens a chest, a new chest will appear immediately, and that play will not be able to get another piece until they run back to Jeuno. So, be nice please!
  • A note on Racial Gear: generally speaking it will not have the best DEF of the armors available to you. It will have a lot of boosts to your stats. Whether these boosts help you are not depend on what you do for a living. The armor is designed to account for the weakness of each race. So, Tarutaru get huge boosts to HP, for instance, while Galka get huge boosts to MP, among other things. If you are playing a somewhat unorthodox character, or have a casting class as your subjob and need more MP, this armor can be very useful. If you are a tank, or pursuing a job your race is naturally well-suited for.. it may not be for you.
  • As for appearance.. it looks *exactly* like the starting, newbie armor you had when you first created your character, except that the colors will be all new. The ones I have seen all look nice to me, but what do I know?

All of my RSE was dropped by a family member, and like you, I was also going to re-do the Goblin Tailor quest. This is what I've found out:

If you have one, two, or even three pieces of the RSE, this quest is automatically repeatable. However, once you have obtained your fourth (last) piece of RSE, this will complete this quest and you will no longer be able to repeat it. If you lose your RSE and this quest is COMPLETED, you will need to purchase the RSE that you seek to have. :(

When you look under "Quests --> Completed --> Jeuno: Completed Quests, and if you find "Goblin Tailor" within this list then you will no longer be able to repeat this quest, nor can you reset it. If this quest is completed and you go talk to Guttrix (lower jeuno), he will tell you "Hey, sweetie...You helped me out big time, but there ain't nothing more I can make for you."
******************************************************************************
What I do not know is if you take one RSE piece and send it to another character (mule) if this still counts as one piece you have already obtained OR can you obtain it again since its not in that character's inventory?

A while ago I sold my Hume Gloves (without having the complete set) and then went to get them again. I was not given the option of getting the gloves again once I turned the in the pattern. So as far as I know once you get a piece of RSE for this you can not "repeat" that piece.
Easy!

My week, Hume male... Gusgen mines.. time to do it :D As a 67SAM/33THF this was the easiest quest ever. I used 3 Warp Scrolls and 1 Warp Cudgel to get back to Jeuno. I went 5/8 on keys.. Wendigos best drop, 4 for me, and I helped a 41 WHM get one for his Custom Slacks. lol i strongly recommend making a macro /item "Gusgen Chest Key" <t> because I beat this one 75 DRK to the chest 3 times! He stood on top of the chest doing it manually and i just ran up and popped the macro.. easiest thing ever... he was so mad at me :D Got back to Jeuno got all my RSE and put them on AH. So far only my pants/boots/shirt sold and i bought a Siphari Turban and Sipahari Boots for my STR macros :D Overall made 1.3ish mil.. So glad i did this quest ^^. Overall, it took me 1 hour and 30 mins to be done completely. Some people say its hard to do in the full 8 hours... yea.. thats if your blind lol.. use a thf sub and flee, and its no problem at all. It could have gone alittle faster if I had Wide scan, but I had ffxi-atlas on and kept visiting the spawns... no problem. Also saw Aroma Fly twice.. 0/2 >.<
Easy!

Yes, but if your lucky, you can get your first piece, warp to Jueno, get RSE piece, tele/choco back to area and get second key/chest before your time is up. Gotta be fast and lucky for this though.

Never hurts to have the keys just in case however.
is it possible?

Fame Guide!!
# Feb 18 2006 at 5:40 AM Rating: Decent
I had some difficulty getting fame up for this quest, but some people on here were a lot of help. I have only done quests to get fame for this and the Utsusemi quest, so here is the list of all the quests I did to unlock this one, they are all real easy, and if you just buy the ingredients, it shouldnt reach over 50k (excluding necklaces). Like someone said you need to do 40 quests, at least one in each country (I think) and abouts 10 in jeuno. Here is the list of all the quests I unlocked it with:

San'diora:
2XStacks of Bat Wings
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=San%20d'Oria&fquest=19

Windurst:
45XNeckless Batches(4) (utsusemi Quest)
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=Windurst&fquest=60

Bastok:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=Bastok&fquest=11
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=Bastok&fquest=28

Selbina:
1XMoss Stack
4XCabbage Stcks
2XCorn Stacks
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=Other&fquest=180

Jeuno:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=Jeuno&fquest=186

I did all of the quests except the selbina one first, and it still didnt unlock, but after that I got the quest. All of theses quests are real easy and pretty cheap. Hope this helps!
Finally did it....

I'm a hume female, and bought all of the pieces at Jeuno AH except for the body piece. It is rarely ever there and when it is someone always grabs it before me. So, I finally decided to stop being lazy and get it myself. Here's my story and some advice.

First, check when your turn is up here: http://www.pyogenes.com/ffxi/timer/v2.html. When I first checked, mine was in Ordelle's Caves two days away. So prepare yourself by getting the first key ahead of time. You can't carry more than one because it's rare-ex, but getting one ahead can be a big help, especially if you only want one piece. I did this quest as a lvl 40 WHM/20 BLM. I had to get high lvl help to fight the mobs that drop keys. I could kill Goliath Beetles, but it took ages to do it and there were some close calls. If you're around that lvl sneak and invisi are very useful because you will still get aggroed a lot. Get a friend to help you kill the mobs or shout for help, you can always get help with enough gil offered ~.^

All of the higher lvl mobs will drop keys. Beetles, stropers, stroper chymes, gobs. A gob is what dropped the key for me, and only after the second kill. Also, while you're here early, I recommend making sure that you have a map and getting a good feel for the layout of the dungeon. Go ahead and print out the spawn points and walk around a bit. Nothing worse than getting there on the day of and getting completely lost and end up being killed.

Now you have to wait for your week to come. A week lasts for about six hours, so if you need to get all of the pieces start early, it can take four hours or more. It's a long process. Get a key > find and open chest > return to Jeuno > back to dungeon > get a key > find and open chest > return to Jeuno, etc.

It took me about 45 minutes to find the chest. It can take longer if the dungeon is overcrowded with people looking for it too. If someone opens the chest and it's also their week for RSE, another one will spawn immediately somewhere in the dungeon. However, if it's some fool that just opened it for the hell of it, it can take up to another thirty minutes to re-spawn.

It's really not that difficult, just time-consuming. Oh, tip - if you're a WHM or have a WHM sub and don't want to get aggroed, cast deodorize around Stroper Chymes, they also detect you by scent. Found that out the hard way ~.^

Just a quick Question, could I complete this on my own at 34 (im galka pld with best equipment avaialable excluding +1s'), If time wasnt an issue I.E I just got one key early, waited for galka week and found the chest and opened it, basically will I have any moster trouble at this level?

Sure you can (and you probably have by now).
You just have to find the right mobs. As a BLU34 I was on my way to Sandy to change sub for farming and I noticed I didnt have much tnl so I went down into Ordelles Caves for that little last exp. I went to the pool for the second Paladin-quest and everything where still EP. Then I found some Goliath Beetles close to the pool that where still easy's but with high defense so I started beating on them. (Found soon that it was faster to kill the mushrooms, less exp per kill but less rest time...) Second one dropped a key. A chest turned up very close too. I had the "Cunning earring"-quest started so I got a "torn page" or whatever from the chest but shortly after I got another key that I am saving for RSE.
Since I have already tried to kill Wendigo's in Gusgen, and beeing careful I don't think it is impossibe to get a key in Shakrami either, I am now planning on getting a few of the RSE within the next days. Some of them are great for BLU.
RE: Is 34 possible?
# Feb 01 2006 at 9:35 AM Rating: Decent
No, I don't think so. You might be able to beat some of the mobs that drop keys, but it would be close and if anything linked or aggroed while you were fighting (which is very possible), you'd be dead. And even if you could survive, it would takes ages because of the length of the battles and down-time. Just ask a friend to come with you, or /shout or /tell for some help in the dungeon.

I went in as a 25 rdm, sneak/invising my way around Ordelles caves. A high lvl rdm helped me find the key, but I got killed the first time looking. Went back, got killed again.. levelled down! As lvl 24 I lost invisible.. I went back anyway, killed a couple aggro gobs and found the chest! I forgot my sneak, and a horde of bats ended my run. I got to my homepoint at 0:05 firesday, so a whole week till I get my rse, then a couple levels till I can equip it. So if you can get help with the key, go in early! Level 25 elvaan redmages should get those gloves early, they mean +24 mp among other things.

This quest isnt as hard as it seems. Just get a high lvl person. Offer some gil or maybe they're in ur linkshell. And head for the place. The window for each time is about 5-6 hours, maybe more. It shouldnt take you that long. Make Jeuno ur Home Point. And get a 3rd person with warp and tele. Or just a tele and get warp scrolls. Go to place. camp chest.wait for drop, warp out. Tele back to nearest crag. Rinse and repeat. Of course its MUCH easier when your entire linkshell is helping you. MUCH! Got 3 done in 2 hours. Actually it was more like an hour.

By the way. I love this armor. the mp bonus I get from elvaan male stuff is great. (is a rdm). And i look good too! Definitly worth the time, not the price at AH!!

And to get the quest i had about 30 quests in Windy.About 6 in bastok. and about 4 in sandy. Doenst take that much.

And good look if u have to go to the Gugsen mines...my god I HATE that place!

It's for a Windurst quest, "Heaven Cent". You need a Rusty Key to open it, but it won't work unless you're already in the middle of the quest. Check out the walkthrough for it on this site for more info.

I decided to do the 3 pieces i needed today, i had some thieve tools so i just go for chests.
Found first and it gave me weakened state. Waiting for weaken to wear i started to wander around and found another chest. Waited there till it wore (about 1 hour+) and try again, weakened again ;; is there a reason for this or I should never try RSE again???
