Summary

Obtain a revival tree root from a Tainted Hound in East Ronfaure or West Ronfaure, and return it to a wise old man.

Walkthrough

Balasiel is at (F-7) in Southern San d'Oria on the west side of the map. Go into Watchdog Alley to the very end and enter an open arch at (E-6). This takes you to a series of walkways above the city. They wind a bit, so you'll have to do some exploring to find him.

When you first talk to Balasiel, he recognizes your fighting spirit and asks you if you want to get some training. If you tell him yes, he sends you to King Ranperre's Tomb and tells you that you need to bring something back to him as proof of completing your challenge. Go to King Ranperre's Tomb and kill the Spook. The Spook hovers around the actual tomb and only spawns at night. Kill the Spook and get the Revival Tree Root that it drops. (You can also buy it from the Auction House for pretty cheap).

Bring the Revival Tree Root back to Balasiel and he rewards you with a Spatha. He then asks you to return when you are even stronger.

This is such a gay quest. I got root by accident and right when i was about to drop, my ls bud asked ls for help getting one. Then, I found out you could use for quest. So, Boom... I got a spatha.

bogys also drop root and you can find them almost anywhere at night about after 21:00
Spook
# Aug 30 2005 at 12:34 AM Rating: Decent
The writer only mentions Spook as the target simply because the NPC who gives the quest spacificly mentions the Tomb. Unless there are other Mobs in King Ranperre's Tomb that are known to drop the Revival Tree Root, in my humble oppinion, Spook is correct.
Minimum Level

OK, the minimum level is wrong here, I just did this quest (to help raise fame on it) on my Level 1 Mule with ZERO Exp. And, I really think they should remove the comment about getting the Revival Root from spook. I've gotten Revival Roots off of undead ranging from Wolves of any kind to Shadows in Fei Yin, extremely common drop. Because of this (and the STUPID Brady Guide) saying to get it off of Spook, I wasted DAYS back when trying to get one myself (finally wised up and bought it off AH, was so n00b I thought you actually had to get a quest item drop yourself back then).

I started PLD a looong time ago (still haven't completed the third quest), and I went to kill Spook. Now, Being the little n00bling that I was, I killed the fool (nobody was camping it at the time, thank GOD), and it dropped the coveted Traveler's Mantle...but not the Revival Tree Root. Why I was pissed I will never know- I had just netted 40k.

Still, Spook was a pushover. If you can pry him away from some lv58 asshat, it'll be easy to take him DOWN.

Regards!

ok folks, the revival root can be found off any undead mob. Doesn't matter if its a ghost type or wolf type. As for the minimum level, that is just the minimum level you can be to obtain the quest. So if it's lvl 1 then you can get that quest as lvl 1. If it were lvl 50 you would have to be lvl 50 in order to get the quest. Please try to use some common sense.

Spook + Revival Root
# Oct 11 2004 at 7:41 AM Rating: Decent
Spook spawns at approx. 20:00 every night in King Ranperre's Tomb above the Tombstone.

If killed quickly enough it will spawn at about 0:00, sometimes earlier, sometimes later.

My advice, do NOT bother with getting the tree root from Spook, a lot of people camp this mob because it drops a Traveler's Mantle (40k on Siren) and, just as well, all undead mobs drop this.

The other day though, myself, and a friend of mine were camping Spook for the mantle, and a lower level character (About level 9 or 10) came up and began to stand beside me waiting for Spook to show up..So I asked him if he was here for the root, and he said "yes" so I just had my friend pass the root that had dropped from it's last spawn, and handed it over, I also told him it would have been much more effective to get one from Enhanted Bones, or Skeleton Warriors/Wizards and/or the undead hounds in Ronfaure, as those would have given him XP, as well as dropped the root without him having to compete with these experienced campers at Spook.

Anyway...to sum it all up.. Do NOT waste your time camping spook for this item.

what i wanna know is why the HELL anybody would go to all the trouble of trying to get the root as a drop when it is so easy to get it from the AH.

I got a Revival Tree Root from a Black Wolf in Gustaberg, so it might be that any hound or wolf type monster will drop it.

I can confirm this - I got the Revival Root from a Bandersnatch in Gusgen Mines while I was trying to help someone get their Magicked Skull.
Spawn Time
# Dec 09 2003 at 12:51 PM Rating: Decent
It appears the spook spawns at 2000 and it doesn't appear that it spawns again during the night. You you have to watch out for higher level people just waiting to gank it from you. I was waiting for it and some guy with plate armor came and killed it before I could even target it.

Actually it seems to spawn more than just at 2000 as I was just there and someone was waiting so I let them do it as they were there first. However it re-spawned at 0100. Was not looking forward to the wait but resigned to it. Obviously it has about a 5 hourish spawn time

Revival Tree Root

I got my tree root from a tainted hound in one of the Ronfaures. I wasn't looking for it, it just dropped after the battle. *Much* nicer than camping that dratted spook!

# Nov 24 2003 at 3:35 PM Rating: Default
I got this at level 1, but never pursued it until lvl 7. I bought the root from the AH for 200.

so the lvl 10 minimum requirement is deceptive. You have to be lvl 9 to use the sword, and maybe level 10 to kill the spook, but you can trade him the root for the sword at any level
RE: wrong level
# Dec 09 2003 at 4:49 PM Rating: Default
i think the levels posted as minimum for these boards are the minimum level of the enemies you will fight in the area. i have done most of these quests and missions very early on, but the enemy levels seem to be accurate.
