Summary

Journey to the waterfall in Ordelle's Caves, and bring back proof of your visit.

Walkthrough

When you go back to talk to Balasiel a second time, he recognizes that you have become stronger. He asks if you are ready to do more training. If you tell him yes, he sends you to the Ordelle Caves and tells you that you need to bring something back to him as proof of completing your challenge. He tells you to go to the body of the cave and bring back proof of being there.

First, you may speak with Chanpeau (NPC standing at a well on the way to talk to Balasiel). He will give some small hint about the quest. Next, go to La Theine Plateau and enter the zone Ordelle's Caves (map sold in Northern San d'Oria by Elesca, at I-8) The entrance is in the ravine closest to the lake at (F-7). In the caves from the entrance at (H-6) head to the large room with Shriekers in it at (H-7). Pass through this room to get to the waterfall at (G-7).

There are two points of interest here with ??? marking them. One is in the pool, and one is in the middle of the room. Make sure to un-equip weapons and/or your shield. First, inspect the ??? at the pool. Then, quickly inspect the ??? in the center of the room. If you have done this correctly and quick enough, you will receive Stalactite Dew.

Head back to Balasiel for a Squire's Certificate Key Item. This appears to be an ongoing quest as he says to come back later when you have progressed further.

(This is actually a prerequisite for the Paladin flag quest.)

if u entered the cave from the northern entrance, go to the west tunnel and keep going until u go down a level, then proceed until you go to a room with 2 tunnels branching out. Take the southern one and you'll find yourself at the waterfall area.

Lol, i saw a willthewisp over there, scared the hell outta me

I just soloed this last night as a 26WAR/13MNK. Choco'd down to H-7 in La Thiene (north of the lake) and ran into the back entrance to Ordelle's Caves which- if you're not familiar with the area- is at the southernmost "point" of the canyon. I had three Silent Oils with me, but decided to conserve them until I reached the room with the Shriekers. Following the advice of other posters here, I ran through the room with the Fly Algarics (no aggro) and took the southern passage (don't turn right!) to the tunnel with the Stink/Hognosed Bats. Stinkbats didn't aggro but 2 of the Hognosed did and weren't really worth the trouble of killing.

My bravery wore off when I reached the top of the stairs and started targeting Even Match Shriekers, so I used a Silent Oil and ran into the room with the waterfall. I didn't bother unequipping my G.axe, clicked on the first ??? in the pool and ran to the second ??? in the middle of the room and got the Dew on the first try. It's worth noting that on my way to the second ??? I got hung up on a Stalactite or two and couple of Shriekers that wandered in front of me, so I figure you've got a good 10-20 seconds between clicking on the first ??? and the second. After receiving the Dew, I ran out of the cave and my Oil wore off just at the zone.

Total investment: 1,000gil, 15 minutes.
Total reward: 1 step closer to Paladin flag, stupid freakin' title.
high enough level to solo?

should i be able to solo this at level 37? I went into the room and there was a shrieker that targeted as 'easy prey'. I chickened out and left because It was kinda far away from the zone. I just happened to be in the area doing another quest at the 'drill' entrance and thought i'd try for this one.

Thanks!

Btw...nothing agro'ed me at all. But i read somewhere that everything starts attacking you once you get the dew and you have to run that long way back to the entrance....
No need to unequip weapon or shield

I never unequipt my weapon or shield.
Got the dew first time anyway.
A Jelly was there, but I let the little dessert live just because I was in a hurry.

27 rdm/blm Piece of cake. Go into Ordels cave the back way(just north of the big pond in La Thiene). Sneak is all you need. DONT WASTE MONEY ON PRISM POWDER. Nothing this way agros by sight. If you dont have sneak you will need mabee 2 silent oils and you could do this. The location is
(G-7). I Ran right by everything got the dew the first time. Go back the way you came trust me it is quicker and easier(no goblins). Talk to the guy in sandoria and There you go. Piece of cake.(mabe angelfood.....mmmmmmm.)

His way to do this quest is by far the easiest. I'll just add a bit to it to make it easier.

If you can, do this as a WAR or THF. Go in the back way he described. Run straight down the passageway(stink bats don't aggro), thru the room of fly alarics (they didn't aggro me as a 27 WAR/13 MNK). Once you get past them, there will more stink bats and some Hognosed bats...abot 3 of them spaced out. These will aggro, and stink bats do link. They'e pretty much in a set of a hognosed and a stink. so kill each pair, then rest before heading on to the next. They got me to right at 2/3rds life each fight, so be careful not to link them all.

Once you've killed all of the bats, rest but. you probably will be able to target a shrieker in the distance. Make sure you have full health, and before you run in the room with the shriekers, thru up Defender (WAR) or use your 2 hour (THF). Run in, target the first ???, click it, then veer to the right. The second ??? will be a slight distance away. After you get the item, run back down the same way you came. You'll easily outrun the shriekers, and as long as no shriekers are right on your tail, the alarics won't attack you when you run back thru the room. Run out,and head back to Sandy. Mission complete. I went in with 522 HP, and got out with 267 HP. This one's relatively easy.
Much easier way

well for those who are lower lvls. go to the ponds at H-7. across from the big pond is a ramp down into the ravine. go down it and stay left. you'll find a cave entrance that is the second zone to Ordellos. Follow the path to the room with the fly algaris. Go straight through it and it'll take you up to the room you seek. there are no gobs this way.
A little extra help if the Forum's original description does

Now, this is what I did for the quest, so some people's information may vary. First of all, I'd like to get across that un-equipping your shields, weapons, etc. is unecessary. If you really think you should, then go for it, doesn't make a difference unless you feel like getting raped by Shriekers.

Anyway, I'll get on with it now.

Enter Ordelle's caves from where you completed the "Rescue Drill" (Sandy Rank2-1) this entrance is located at (F-7) on your map, you can enter this "ravine" from a ramp at (F-6), and when you reach the eco-warrior npc, simply turn right and continue down those tunnels until you reach a small room with 2 other exits besides the hall you are entering from.*Note* The Fly Agaric in Ordelle's will not aggro. People tend to get them confused with the Shriekers that will Aggro+link on you if you're not careful.*

Now, to the left of the hallway you enter from is an exit to La Theine plateau, this is located at (H-6)(keep this in mind, you may need it shortly) and to the right is a path that leads to the Stalacite pond (G-7).

Most obviously, head down the path to the stalacite, touch the pond (Remember, there is no need to un-equip anything) and immediately run to the ??? in between the two rock pillars located behind you (while facing the pond.)

Quickly click on it (hopefully you got it. It's a pain if you have to do it again.)Try your best to avoid aggro's from shriekers.

Remember that exit to La theine I told you about? Good.

If, for some reason, you manage to aggro a shrieker(try to make sure you get the Stalacite dew before you try to be brave and just cruise past them) then make use of that exit. *Note* BEWARE THE FLY AGARIC IN THE NEXT ROOM! THEY MAY LINK WITH SHRIEKERS!

Anyway, after you have retrieved the Stalacite Dew. Return to Balasiel to recieve your reward.
A Squire's Certificate, and the awesome title of: Spelunker!

Congratulations! You're well on your way to becoming a Paladin!

Sorry I didn't throw in any positions, I'll edit it shortly to include.

*Edits* Ok, I made a few changes to the quest info i posted. Now, it's still not so great, but I threw in some positions of entrances and such.

As soon as i can, I'll give the positions in Ordelle's as marked on my map in-game (I'm on ps2, so I can't just post a link)

So, yet again, enjoy this quest it's really easy, and good luck.

Also, whoever made the quest guide for the site stated the entrance to Ordelle's is the ravine closest to the lake at (F-7) I have to commend you on your obvious lack of observation, the ravine closest to the lake is at (H-6)-(H-7) the first entrance to Ordelle's is in fact at (F-7)
This is the first ravine you come to when you go east after zoning into La Theine from West Ronfaure.

I attempted this last night as a levl 30war/13mnk solo. I did not complete it, but I will try again tonight. But i would like to say is I think I wasted a lot of gil on Prism powder I did not need.the Shriekers aggro by sound, even when my powder wore off I was able to move around, because i used silent oil. I was carful not to get to close but never aggroed a shriekers. The reason I could not complete it I am not sure, I would put my hands in the water first, and then go to the center of the room, as all have said to do, but the item kept sliping out of my hand. which makes me think I was not doing it quick enough. I will try again tonight>

At lvl 30, i suggest you have someone help you even though it's a rather easy quest. In the Stalacite room, there are a lot...and i mean A LOT of shriekers that will aggro (and link) lvl 30 PC's and kill you very quick.

You're best bet is to ask someone lvl 40+ such as what Mantine did.

I did this quest last night. Went in the other entrance in the gorge by the lake at H7 like a previous poster had recommended. Used Silent Oil, Deodorizer and Prism powder, got by the bats and fungar w/o any problem only to discover you can't pick up anything when you're invisible! I ran back into the tunnel and reapplied the silent oil which killed the invisibility and went back out and got the item, remember check the ? in Pool first and then the ? in middle of room, still got aggro'd by a shrieker but was able to out run him since I came in the back way it's not as far away, next for the Knights test when I get a few more levels, Hope this info helps!
PS. I did unequip my axe and shield before inspecting the ?, don't know if I had to but you don't have much time when using the silent oil.

I'd just like to confirm that you do not need to unequip your weapon and/or shield to receive the Stalactite Dew. I did this quest a while ago with the help of a good friend (thanks Lufiani!), and was able to get the Stalactite Dew without needing to unequip anything whatsoever.

Note: If you're not seeing leeches you're going the wrong way. I almost killed myself trying to go to the same place where the Eco-warrior quest takes you. That is NOT the place to go. I saw no goblins at 32 but the shriekers in the cave itself attacked me.

Not sure why others say they had to unequip weapon/shield but when I did this quest I didn't even know about this requirement and had no problems getting the Stalactite Dew. Friend that happened to be there knew what to do for the quest and cleared the funguars. After that I used the first ??? then quickly to the second ??? and got it just fine, with weapon equipped since my friend didn't mention anything about that.

Well, the person who wrote the guide probably mixed it up with the one in bastok where you have to examine the ???? by the stream. You had to take of all your clothes (errr... equipment ;) and examine it, the writer probably assumed you needed to take off your equip as well for this. Doesn't really matter ;o

Just did this solo with a level 23 WHM/11 WAR. The only aggro I got was from a Rancid Ooze that hit for 80-90 hp a hit. I had my weapons unquipped just to be sure. Thanks for the pointers.
An easier way

Depending on which entrance you came into Ordelle's caves from, the route will, of course, be different.

The first way (and the way I did it today) was to enter at the ravine in F6-F7 (the same ravine as is involved in the training mission for San d'Oria). The first cave here has the NPC for the Eco-Warrior quest, but instead of going left as in that quest, go right. The passage is long and loops around a lot, but doesn't split until you reach a round room with several Fly Agarics. The south exit from this room is the one you want, and will take you straight to the cave with the waterfall.

However, there's a much shorter and easier route, which is how I got back out. ^^;; There's an entrance to Ordelle's caves in the ravine just north of the lake in (H-7) in La Theine. (It's at the west end of the ravine.) From there, it's a much shorter, non-forking tunnel to the room with the Fly Agarics.

As for the room itself, I used the ??? in the water, then ran over and used the other ???, got the thing, and left. So I can't tell you much about that part if you're having problems. ^^;

Creatures I encountered along the way, and their difficulties to me at level 22:
Goblins (aggro, easy prey or decent challenge)
Hognosed Bats (aggro, easy prey or decent challenge, link with Stink Bats)
Jelly (aggro, a 40 THF/SAM saved my life, thank you...)

Blood Bunny (nonaggro)
Stink Bats (nonaggro)
Fly Agaric (nonaggro)

Oh, also, if you don't know sneak, you can pick up a few flasks of silence oil if you want to get by the hognosed bats. I bought one at 700 gil at the AH, and wished I'd had three or four.
Don't need to be that high

I just did this quest as a 24/12 RDM/BLM, without all that much difficulty. The cave appeared to be deserted, so I just gave it a shot on my own. The leeches and bats (trio of small bats) on the way to the first circular room were non-aggro and Easy. The funguar in the circular room were DC/Even & non-aggro, and the few aggro mobs on the way to the large room were Easy bats (single large bat). I DID have to unequip my weapon/shield before I was able to pick up the dew (clicked water, then the spot in the middle of the room), though it's possible I just didn't get to the second spot quickly enough on my first try. I was attacked by a pair of shriekers on the way out, Bound one, outran the other and got out. It certainly would've been easier at 27 or 31, but it was doable at 24.

Hello, very well done, although I do have some modifications: The entrance to the ravine is by the lake, which is (H-6), then which you will go down a slope. When you have a chance of turning left or right (this is about 10-20 FT down the slope) turn left. You will soon enter into Ordell's caves. You enter pass through what seems to be an everlasting hallway (warning-agro bats @ lvl 27 or below). Finally, you will come into a circle like room, with fungars (fly something) take the path that is straight ahead, maybe a little left, of the path that you were on. On the map it should look like it will look like you are walking on a path which starts a new area at about (G-6)-(G-7). You will soon enter what looks like on your map a much bigger round room than the previous (G-9). (MAKE SURE YOU UN-EQUIP ANY WEAPONS/SHIELDS) On the left will be the pool, and on the right (about 20-40 FT away straight across from the pool) will be the other ??? mark.

HINTS - If you are looking to make it out alive, have a full party of 20-24, a few of 25-27, or higher to help you. I am a LVL 27 War / 10 Mnk, and I would have never made it out alive (I never did anyways, I wanted to spawn back in Sandy) even if I tried. Watch for Jelly's and Fungars, they are Agro. To find the other ??? mark, I pressed 0 on the keypad (or you could use TAB) repeatedly as I ran.

Thank you everyone who contributed on this, I could have never done it without you :)
