Summary

The Library of Magic wants you to help retrieve its overdue library books. In this case, Hae Jakkya, the Mithra who runs the auction house in Windurst Woods, has checked out the book "A Song of Love," but has failed to return it by the due date.

Walkthrough

The Optistery wants you to retrieve another overdue library book. You must have completed Early Bird Catches the Bookworm and zoned before obtaining this quest. Talk to Tosuka-Porika to start the quest. He says there is another book and to go talk to Furakku-Norakku.

Furakku-Norakku tells you that Hae Jakkya who runs the Windurst Woods Auction House has an overdue romance novel checked out.

Go talk to Hae Jakkya and she gets very mad. Talk to those around her and they make fun of her. Hae Jakkya says that it's not her and nothing else. Go back and talk to Furakku-Norakku and he checks the library card. When he reads it to you he says it clearly shows her name signing it. If you look closely at the name you will see that the spelling actually says Hae Jakhya, who is a Mithra in San d'Oria.

Travel to South San d'Oria and talk to Hae Jakhya who stands atop the battlements of the West Gate (G-9) and receive the overdue library book, A Song of Love. Return the book to Furakku-Norakku to complete the quest and get your reward of 2,800 gil.

Quest Series

This quest is part of a series of quests offered by the Optistery. See the list below to find out which quest comes next.

Yep, I can confirm that you CANNOT get this quest while you have a mission active. I couldn't get it for weeks with max fame, as soon as I completed the mission I came here... and got the quest.

Au contraire - when I started this quest, I had (and still have) Mission 5-1: The Final Seal active.

I never go without a mission active - as soon as I complete one, I beeline to Heaven's Tower for my next one.

to get "Smudge on One's Record"...I just created a mule in Bastok this morning to buy as many coronets as he can hold in his inventory, to be delivered to my char in Windy, to be turned over to the "Mandragora mad" Taru in Wind Walls, to hopefully shoot my level up!
All this for one map! Geez!

BTW...I did Zone several times after doing "Early Bird.." quest. I wasn't granted the Chasing Tales quest till after I reached lvl 3 Windy Fame.
Just for those non-Windurstians who may wonder why they can't get that quest.

I just got this quest this morning AFTER finishing "Early Bird..." and doing additional quests to raise my Windy fame to 3 (I'm from Sandy). I hope I can get "A Smudge On One's Record" when I finish "Chasing Tales". I want that Fe'Yin map!

There is a "Library Book" in the shelf of the optistery or how ever you spell it (im so bad with spelling these places) It says there is a noise coming from it. What on earth is this "library book" thing for, i couldnt open it.

The quest log says that I have to find a Hume named Orn. Wasted a whole trip over to Sandoria for nothing. Grr... tell me if anyone else has gotten this problem.
RE: ???

You're on wrong quest here. It's the Early Bird Catches The Bookworm one. Orn's in Windurst Waters.

When you finish this quest, you get the title "Savior of Knowledge" (the same title as in the "Early Bird Catches the Bookworm" quest).
Name Spelling

The proper spelling of the Mithra at the Windurst Woods auction house is "Hae Jakkya". Just to help out!
Found it
# Jan 02 2004 at 6:18 PM Rating: Decent
Seems that if you have the mission 2-1 of windurst activated you cant do this quest untill completed.

RE: Found it
# May 27 2004 at 6:37 PM Rating: Decent
That is unlikely, as Square-Enix has a generally strong reputation for keeping its code clean.

The most likely scenario for not being able to recieve a quest is you don't have enough fame, or haven't completed all of the prerequisites.

A less likely scenario is you didn't zone between quests.

And the least likely scenario is there actually is a bug.
RE: Found it
# Jun 08 2005 at 3:34 PM Rating: Decent
Well, I'm on Mission 7-1, which you get from the same NPC that gives these quests, and he won't give them to me, he just talks about Mission 7-1. I have max Windurst fame and everything, but he still won't give them to me, yet my boyfriend, who also has max fame, but is Sandorian, can get them no problem.
RE: Found it
# Jul 04 2005 at 2:13 PM Rating: Decent
YOu can't have 2 simultaneous quest involving the same NPC. You'll just have to finish WM 7-1 to get this quest.
Help
# Jan 02 2004 at 4:15 PM Rating: Default
I have 31 quest done in windurst and 3 mission completed with tons of repeat.

when i talk to Tosuka-Porika i get this answer.

I wonder if that so called Cat Burglar really has one of our books.

When i talk to Furakky-Norakku he says Yeah, it sounds like a lot of trouble. So much of a hurry-scurry. I can hardly sleep.

I did complete the early bird cathches the
bookworm quest.
RE: Help
# Jan 09 2004 at 1:09 AM Rating: Good
That is because you are currently on Mission 4 for Windurst. Complete mission 4, and then you can get the quest.

You have to do this quest exactly as it reads. I forgot to talk to the Hea at the auction house, and tryed talking to Hae while I was in San d'Oria and nothing happened =/

I finished the early bird catches a worm quest and the zoned, came back, and now they wont give me this quest. I have a ton of quests complete so my fame should be just fine. I simply am unable to get this quest. Tosuka-Porika tells me "What are you doing here?" and Furakku-Norakku tells me that I need to be quiet around the library.

I also had what I would describe as "heaps of quests completed", but the fame NPC for Windhurst was still giving me the message:

[Name]? Hmm… Now, was that the name of the…? No, that was some other guy. Either way, you're still not making much of a name of yourself here yet. Hard work and Perserverence--that's what's going to put you on the map.

So I busted my gut on other quests, checking my fame regularly and checking for this quest regularly. The instant my fame notched up to the following message:

Oh, you're the [Name] that people are starting to talk about. I've heard pretty good things about you. Hard work and perserverence--those are the only things that'll put you on the map.

This Quest was finally offered to me (you have to speak to the dude in the corner, until then the clerk at the desk still gives you the what are you doing here routine)

2 points:

- I ran there on chocobo and then ran right back and also only got 2800 Gil, which IMO is an awesome amount for a fetch quest where you dont have to fight anything or go into any dangerous areas.

- This is going to seem really minor but Hae Jekkya is not mad about you accusing her of checking out the book due to prudishness. If you read the dialog, she (and her nearby employees) talks in some type of irish brogue (or mabe cockney accent) and its clear that she is too butch to have checked out a froo-froo romance novel..

She called me a "Nincompoop", and said that she would "Scrrratch my eyes" for accusing her of renting the book. She sounded pretty mad to me, and her employees were making fun of her.

Yeah im not saying taht she's not mad at you, i'm saying that its not because she is a "prude", rather its because shes too butch to have checked out what is basically the Vana'Diel equivalent of a Harlequin romance novel. Still it remains a minor point however..

The reward for this quest is 2800 Gil. Not 4500, i just completed it on Midgardsormr. Update quest plz.
Maybe Timed?
# Dec 08 2003 at 1:04 PM Rating: Default
i got 2800 gils to, i think the longer you take the less money you get, i started on sunday morning but after visiting sanD, i went to bastok to xp for the rest of the day, i just handed the book back today (monday morning) and got 2800 for it... so it all depends.

Someone try to do this quest as soon as possible and see if you actually get the full 4500 gils.
RE: Maybe Timed?
# Dec 27 2003 at 5:35 PM Rating: Default
No it is not timed. I set my home point there, took the airship to Jeuno, then to Sandoria. Got the book and then warped back. Still got 2800
Where to find Hae Jakhya?

Hae Jakhya is located in San d'Oria South. Go up the flight of stairs at F-8, to the right of Taumila's Sundries, and speak with Hae. Return to the Optistery in Windurst Waters and collect your reward of 2800 gil from Furakku-Norakku.

Yeah I got 2800 when i did this as well :-\ Kinda of a pain in the a$$ of a quest to do for only 2800.
RE: Hrm
# Dec 11 2003 at 6:21 PM Rating: Excellent
I was quite happy reading that this quest was nearly a 5K gil quest. Then after reading everyone's postings and find out it's half the gil that you actually get. I also read that someone said it was a pain to do. Well, you could have waited to do the quest when you know you're going to San D'oria, just to make this convinent. At least the items you collect for this quest goes under Key Items and does not hinder your item inventory spaces.
