Description

First talk to Yaya, who is near the Fishing guild, she tells you to go talk to Oswald. Oswald is found inside the Hotel.

Oswald has lost his favorite ring while at the pier one day. Unfortunately for Oswald, he knows where it went. Oswald's poor ring fell into the water, now lost forever. Or is it? A greedie fish, you see, has a penchant for swallowing shiny things, maybe one little greedie came along and swallowed it up. If that's the case, then fishing up the greedie will lead to retrieving the ring.

Indeed, that's all you have to do. However, it's not as easy as it seems. The greedie in particular you have to fish up is a Rare Ex fish called a Fat Greedie. Although Jimaida (inside the Fishing Guild) will offer to cut open any greedies you find looking for the ring, no greedie will contain the ring except the Fat Greedie. It has been my experience that you won't catch the Fat Greedie until level 10-11 fishing skill (you may get one at lower skills, but you won't catch many until 10 or 11), so the best bet is to raise your skill level somewhere where there is ample bait and a place to turn in fish for a decent sum until then. When finally fishing for the Fat Greedie, rarely do greedies bite on anything but lugworms, but ou'll want a Mid-Level (a very durable small fish fishing) Rod to catch it, as the Fat Greedie seems to seems classified as a large fish even if still caught with lugworms and a small catch rod.

Trade Zeldon the fat greedie for him to cut it open, he hands you an etched ring back.

Give the ring to Oswald for your reward.

Just caught one on Selbina Pier, 3rd cast with Halycon Rod and sinking minnow. Had the quest active but wasn't even really trying for it. Just seeing what I could catch before the boat arrived.

Woot...I can now finish this quest thats been open since about 1 month after I started the game...a little over a year ago.

Stamina
# Mar 20 2007 at 7:41 PM Rating: Decent
I had fishing skill lv 24 and I couldn't seem to land one of these. I found out why. My own skill in fishing was too good. With the worm lure and the halcyon rod I was catching tons of greedies, and I got the feel of their stamina, so I let everything go that was easy feeling like an item. Finally after catching 3 stacks of greedies, I decided to reel in everything, low and behold, the first easy fish that I caught (which felt like an item) was the fat greedie.

Lesson learned: Fat greedie stamina is way less than normal greedie stamina.

This could explain why people are catching them at lv 0.

here's how my experience went:
i bought a bamboo rod and a minnow to pass the time on the boat but i didn't join the fishermans guild because i don't care for fishing
1st cast: pair of rusty leggings
2nd cast: you caught a fat greedie (i had absolutely no skill in fishing, not even .1)
3rd: greedie, skillup .2
im keeping this fish forever lol
Beginners Luck

Just finished this quest. Read the above help and did not think skill was high enough to do. Anyway, I was waiting for the ferry and decided to lvl fishing craft. I cast using a Halcyon rod and worm lure. My skill lvl is 4.1 and on the first cast I hooked the little fattie. So I guess there is such a thing as beginners luck.

Just finished this one. Had a lot of trouble with it. Took me close to 20 casts till I finally got the fat greedie. Was using Tarutaru fishing rods at first but after two broke I got fed up and used yew. Was on the pier using lugworms. Fishing skill 10 and had full fishing gear on. In the end wasted about 9k on a worthless earring, fun.

Caught it earlier using Comp.Fishing Rod and a sinking minnow on the pier. Got after about 4 tries- it seems to have very low HP, it dropped to 0 in a few seconds.
PS. lv.15 fishing skill but it seems you an catch at any lv.

I used a Tarutaru fishing rod. Paid 100 gil to sit on the pier. Used a minnow for bait. (It was nighttime, if you feel that makes a difference) First cast, Fat Greedie. Fishing skill level 1. :D

Sitting on the pier is key.

I was fishing for yellow globes with some success in Mhaura, to use in skilling up Alchemy. But I was frustrated with the slow skillups (like .3 from 6 stacks of bait) so I decided to try skilling up in Selbina. At Fishing skill 6, first cast along the water next to Dodjhuma, I caught a fat greedie. I was using a Mithra rod and lugworm bait.
What starts this quest?

Talk to yaya, then Oswald. Get the fish, talk to Jimaida (outside fishermens gild south) then talk to zeldon. And then trade, then trade yadada.
HAHAHA!

Wanna know something funny!!

Not even lvl 1 Fishing skill I think I was like .8 at the time I caught it. Used a Tarutaru Rod and Lug worm and caught it on first try while standing off the doorway to the ferry. So you dont need to raise your skill or have a good rod, mine was cheap I bought it off the Ferry itself even.

Big Gulps huh? Well See ya later
