Summary

The wind blew away the sailor's cap that Paytah was minding for his father. You fished it out of the sea, but now it is torn and tattered. If you could only find someone who can repair Paytah's father's cap...

Walkthrough

Paytah is at the pier near the shopping piers.

(Level Requirement and Fame Requirement unsure. I didn't get this until Level 21, fairly high fame, and level 21 fishing skill)

I had passed by these two children several times, and each time they spoke to me it was about not talking to passing strangers. But one day, it takes a passing stranger to help poor Paytah in his time of trouble. Paytah's father's favorite cap has been lost to a gust of wind and has been blown into the water. A little bit of fishing skill is needed to fish out his poor father's cap, but when you do, fishing it out of the water has ripped it! Never fear, a ripped cap calls for a hat expert, go to Baren-Moren in the Waters district, he has to be able to repair it. Sure enough, Baren-Moren can fix the cap, but he'll need some fresh material to do it. Baren-Moren would require 4 Dhalmel hides to fix the rip (I think to myself, that's an awfully big cap...).

Dhalmel hides can be found on either Wild Dhalmel in Tahrongi Canyon or Bull Dhalmels in Buburimu Peninsula, but the preferred Dhalmel is the Wild Dhalmel, as it is considerably weaker than its bigger cousin. (and of course off of other players or at the Auction House)

Return to Baren-Moren with the hides, and he not only repairs the cap, he has plenty of material left over to make a Dhalmel Mantle (ah, that's what the extra hides were for...) that he happily passes on to you. Then return the repaired cap to Paytah, and the boy is so pleased he happily turns over a Leather Ring he doesn't need. Both items are pretty decent reward for around a level 18-20 character, or even sell at the Auction House well, so this quest is worth the effort.

Ok I can say with some certainty that the only thing you have to have is 25-26 quests in Windurst done, and maybe lvl 10+. My lvl 16 Red mage did this quest shortly after completing the 26 th quest. My fishing skill was well below 0 and I would wager to guess that I had cast maybe 10-15 times ever when i cought the hat. So definatly not a high fishing skill. My friend did it with here skill under 1 also but it took her like an hour and a half of fishing whereas i got the hat in like 4-5 casts...
Got it at low level

Not exactly sure of my level when I got it, but I'm only level 13 now and I've been in Bastok since level 10 or so. I'm guessing I got the quest at level 10. Had already caught the cap also.

Not exactly sure of my fame level though. I think I've done around 20 quests in Windurst. And only the very first mission.

Interesting. I spent my whole life in Windhurst, just talked to Paytah with 19 lvls under my belt. I think the condition here is your fishing skill, my skill is around 1.4. I'll try again after some agressive fishing time.

came back after 26 quests completed, got the quest. Doesn't show up in quest log, but paytah whined to me about losing his fathers cap. So I assume I just need to fish it up now.

It takes 25-26 fame

You have to trade the ripped cap to Paytah before going to Baren-Moren.

Note: After trading the ripped cap the quest showed up in quest log.

I also did not get this until level 20ish, and I had under my belt about 27 missions completed.
