Did this with my secondary character Dise (WAR30/MNK15) and I did this in 30min-1hr solo. I used the stable warp collar, medal, and scarf to easily get to each place, from the holloween event. Each key dropped after 2-3 kills.

I remember doing this quest in 2003 and it was annoying, but it was also the best way to level past 25.

It's still annoying, and took me about 6 hours to complete. 2-3 were spent traveling (warps and choco will only get you so far), and 3 was spent killing 20-30 mobs for each key as a 50blm/whm. If you're not broke, or have a friend who can bankroll you, don't waste your time. You can make much more gil in 5 hours farming.

I just completed this quest with the help of two of my friends: a 69RDM and a 71NIN and then myself as a 27BLM I believe. Palborough mines was an easy enough drop seeing as how the second quad they fought dropped it. Then in Grotto, it took a while longer and then finally in Giddeus it took nearly an hour >< lol. But all in all, 4 hours to get all three keys isn't bad at all.

Few days ago, me and a pal (75DRK / 37THF) went to get the Giddeous and Ghelsba keys, took like 1 hour p/key.

For the last key from Palborough, I went in the mines as a 23DRK / 11 WAR. I went to the 3rd floor and killed the first copper Quadav I saw. Instant drop ^^! Finally some luck after days of farming Leeches for the Carb. Ruby :p

I am doing this with my THF right now. 1 hour in Pal Mines, and we got two key drops.. not to mention the two lowbies (myself and my WHM) made about 10-20K each off of some pretty drops. I did this on my MNK and it took like 3 hours to get two keys.. I can't stress how nice it is to have a thief of 25 or better in your party for getting these keys. I know 25 is a weird number, considering it doesn't net you TH2, but I have been getting better drop rates as levels rise.. sure someone will refute that, but I'm just telling you what I did and the difference.

Yes I am not kindling Three keys in seven fights Smiley: nod
I have helped a lot People with this quest and it has never been this fast.

At the start there was Three of us 75 Drg/Whm, 54 Thf/Nin(Me) and 39 Rdm/Whm(Needed the Pass).

First we went to Yughott Grotto for the "Ghelsba Chest Key" to the area Before the BCNM. All thinking that this is going to take all day we start killing and before we could find where are next kill would be a key is dropped on the second fight. (This happen before "Ghelsba Chest Key" I think, has the best Drop Rate)

With that done the Drg Teleported us to Dem and we got Chocobo to Palborough Mines for the "Palborough Chest Key". When we got to the third Floor i went to the small area [I-9] & [J-9] and Drg and Rdm went to the area before the BCNM and i started killing. Then it dropped on the second fight. Smiley: lol The lads didn't even get over the brigde.

Not believing our luck we teleported to Mea. The Drg left us there and me and the Rdm headed to Giddeus. After the long walk to the Area we started killing and after the Second fight we were saying "A well it is going to be a long one" (Giddeus Chest key is always the hardestto get). Then on the Thrid fight it drop, we couldn't believe it.Smiley: cool

I Wish I had a timer on this because that has to be some kind of record. I think it took us 30 to 45 minutes Max!!

Thanks for reading

If anyone is looking to do this quest on Asura or if anyone could help with it (would be greatly appreciated); please message Vordermark lvl 26whm. I have to still get all of the keys and I'd prefer to not do it solo :P. As of this message I'm in Windy trying to get a party for the Ghelsba and Giddeus keys.

hey guys yea ive got all 3 keys BUT guddal wont even mention anything about the mission(not really a mission) but he just keeps saying "this is the blah blah for airship to kazham" but when i trade him the keys he wont take them >.>

some points to note are that i have the ffxi starter pack, which came with the installation codes for the 3 expansions, i thought that installing these would render them registered?? obviously im wrong and i still need to register them?? see im clueless lol.
and also is it supposed to cost to register them? because yea my credit card is maxed and it wont let me register lol.

and one more thing, because my card is maxxed i havent paid the monthly fee, and my POL account and content id (character:cerobi) got cancelled, i have succesfully renewed the POL account, but im guessing it also costs to renew the content id??

thankyou in advance for any help you can offer

For everyone complaining about how long it took and how many mobs it took to complete this quest, this IS a Final Fantasy game. I think SE would want you and friends of around the same level to go in and slay mobs all day collecting exp and other items while you look for the keys. That way it wouldn't be as boring slaying 100+ mobs for 1 rare item. But in reality we don't do that, what I did was contact my LS and here came the help. As a matter of fact I found help while I was being helped. The larger the party the easier it became. At one point we told a friend seeking the key to wait in the beginning of the mines while we went in and got the key then he lotted on the treasure. Me and a few friend all got our keys within 2 days which isn't that long considering we're not looking for keys the whole time.
Sigh

Worst quest ever. I question is SE is in the business to make money or to try and make people mad. This quest is a great example of something that should not be in an MMORPG.

Correction needed in the "Related Mobs" section. You don't have "Copper Quadav" under there, but he DOES drop the Palborough Key, as it says in the quest description.
Having trouble 'eh?

Step 1 : When you log into your account, hit the "Shortcut" button that will bring you to the FFXI Top Page

Step 2 : Go to the bottom and select "Content ID"

Step 3 : In the "Expanded Services" window, select "Register ID"

Step 4 : Select "Rise of the Zilart" and hit "Next"

Step 5 : Input the code that is in the back of your booklet that came with your CD

When finished inputting that code, from step 4, do as many as there is, and is possible to do. Might as well get them all done in one go!

Well, there ya have it.

...and it wasn't as bad as I was anticipating. Giddeus, as another poster pointed out, is perhaps the most problematic of the three since there is no zone line close to the area where the Votaries/Theologists/Priests spawn so an unfortunate link can end very poorly for you. For this reason, I did Giddeus first expecting it to be the worst and got the key after four kills. Go figure.

For Ghelsba, I didn't bother raiding huts and instead zoned into Yughott Grotto (where the appropriate mobs and Stealth Bats are the only spawns). I camped near the zone line of Horlais Peak, in case anything went wrong, and killed the orcs in pairs until the key dropped. If you choose to go this route and want some cheap San D'oria fame, be sure to activate The General's Secret quest before you leave since you'll be right near Horlais anyway.

Palborough was a different story entirely. The Qudavs here link like crazy and there are some tight quarters that unexpectedly dead-end and so my first attempt to dash to Waughroon Shrine ended in a grizzly, if embarrassing, death. My second time through I remembered that Qudavs only aggro to sound, so I bought a few pots of Silent Oil and used one once I crossed the bridge on the third floor and made it to my impromptu camp site without any trouble. Camping outside of the Shrine is a must if you're of a comparable job and level since the likelihood of a bad link here is pretty high. This key took the longest to drop but, hey, if you're starting out on this quest you should know by now that patience pays off :)

This is not classified as a quest, just trade the keys to him..

The keys are a random drop from mobs to players whether doing the quest or not
