Very Very easy quest, My level 63 dragoon friend came with me with /war, provoked and took it from there. i only had to heal her once, which wasent even needed (just to go from 900 to 1300hp).
I threw a few Dia II spells and poison, Flash etc...just to make it a little easier.
Completed in about 10 minutes total.

WalkthroughTo start this quest, talk to Narcheral at M-6, upstairs in the cathedral in Northern San d'Oria. Next, head to Valkurm Dunes and look for a ??? at the secret beach around B-8. Wait until nightfall, then click on the ??? to spawn the notorious monster Marchelute. Defeat Marchelute to receive a Tavnazia Pass. I did this stupid quest for my AF1 and I attempted to fight him solo 5 times and they all came back with the same outcome: Knocked out!
Ok, first off, don't be stupid like me and teleport out after the battle is over without casting lot for the freaking key item. The two people that helped me beat this guy started laughing when they realized I didn;t cast lot on the item. we had to wait 30 minutes to do it all over again.
Anyway with the right help, this battle can be extremely easy. I didn't use cure at all throughout the battle and was only casting Haste.

Real Easy fight went in w/ some heavy nukes as blm75/rdm and then finished him w/ scythe was no problem w/ sleeps and gravity.

Killed him was quite easy, I was 54 BLM and my friend a 41 RDM, just kept sleep II'ing him and RDM kept healing me and putting refresh. I'd stay out of his range and keep nuking him until finally he died ^^b

I try to restart the quest cause I throw away the Hammer and he won't let me. Whats happen?

OMG, we had too much fun with this guy. You can't even call what we did a fight. I went as a 56BLM/28WHM and my bro comes with me as a 62RDM/31BLM.
We buffed up, though all we needed was Blink and Stoneskin. When the NM popped, my bro immediately used Sleep II. I begin casting Freeze, and my bro would re-sleep him right when I nuke it. We repeated as necessary. It took only 8 Freezes to bring him down, but he never was awake long enough to damage us past our buffs. As I'm writing this, my bro wants us to do that fight again. Anyone on the Titan server need their WHM AF1?

I just soloed him as RDM70/BLM35. No big problems. Just make sure u have Stoneskin up all the Time. He didnt seem to resist stuff... Poison, Bio, Paral, Blind, Slow etc... all worked.

Here's the deal. I had my af hammer, but I coulnd't flag any of the whm af armor quests. So I made a gm call, and they said to send in a bug report, wich I did. So a few weeks go by, and I try to do this again. I talk to the npc in lower jeuno, but all they will erase are my rng af missions. So I drop the hammer to try to start all over. Now Narcheral won't give me the quest again, and the NM on the dunes won't pop! So I made another GM call, and they said that they were unable to help me, and told me to look up fansites on the web to find out how to get the hammer back. PLEASE can anyone help me out? I recently aquired my war af weapon after all this happened to see if it was something with my character, or squenix/pol, and had no problems getting the razor axe. And before anyone asks, yes, I went back and talked to all the npcs involved in my RNG afs to make sure I didn't miss anything. I tried talking to Narcheral in the cathedral, and I did click the ??? multiple times on the beach.

Sounds like you are hitting the wrong ???
The one by the beach is for SAM AF, there is one over by the song runes just south of them that only appears at night, this is the one you need to be clicking on.

Haha, well I did this a little while ago. And I was lvl 42whm at the time and had my bf help me he was a lvl 50blm...Needless to say he died and I zoned...well when I zoned back into Valkurm Marchelute was still there right in front of me! Killed me in one hit cause my hp was low and I didn't know he'd still be there when I zoned back...So just a little note to those of you who have to zone...he will still be there for a little bit so either rest and get full hp or wait a little while... :)
WHM40 + SAM60 easy fight, I just Tachi: Jinpu him all the time after getting haste, I used my two hour two finish him off, really was so easy.
Back to FFXI, oh yeah!

was me BRD75/WHM36 and WHM44/BLM22 duo this, wasnt too difficult, just took me by surprise. NM dimensional death hit me for 190-230hp, so around 50% i called my Lv54 friece attacker NPC. Only time HP got low when i was casting ballads and WHM was resting. Moral is, BRD can do it, just watch out for that WS, he spams it often when hes less than 50%
just solo'd this for myself as BRD74/NIN37 (yes i deleved v.v.. very sad) hit me 5 times total throughout the fight for 50~60 dmg each hit. Paeon V kept my hp at 100% tho. Evisceration hit for 450~650 and got to use it 3 times. Its Dimensional Death never hit me. Nothing remarkable about the fight, just i noticed it has Counter (which hit for 60).
I just finished this quest as a Lv.65 BST and I got to say...at this level it was too easy. My Junguar Jug Pet was hitting the NM for 200+ damage and did a Dark Spore for 446 damage, the NM was hitting my Jug pet for under 100 but 100+ on critical hits and he spammed Dimensional Death like mad which was hitting for around 200 damage. When was all said and done my Funguar had half life left and I was untouched. My melee hits, with a Fransisca Axe, were doing over 100+ damage.

dimensional death eats about 1 stoneskin at the time if stacked with phalanx so just recast after use and u'll be fine, i ate one for about 300 damage, not too bad

Ok, this fight was not that hard at all. I had a 67PLD, 45WAR, and a 71RDM with me (53WHM/26BLM). Fight took like a minute total. The weapon is awesome because I can use my Holy Shield again hehe, so this AF quest was'nt too bad at all. The WS he cast wasn't hard at all toward the tank, any of us, I walked away with full HP and like 544/617 MP. Just don't fight it on darksday since it is a dark based mob^^ Good luck to all who goes after this.

Mind you the ??? you are looking for is near the flower near the Song Runes, not the one by the shore.

i soloed this guy w/ my 75brd. fight wasnt too bad but took a good 10-15 minutes. He does have a lot of hps. and he CAN be slept (at least w/ lullaby). Found that out towards the end of the fight...but over all i just kept up x2 paeon and regen, DD didnt do to much damage 200ish but he does spam it

Lvl 70 mnk/sam helped me with this, and we barely won.
Dimensional Death was DEFINITELY well liked by him as he used it as often as he did regular attacks.
Let this be a warning to people asking a lvl 60 for help to keep an mp reserve for healing, i burned all mine spamming banish II and cure IV(each did about 200dmg).

yea this thing has about 7000 hp, but damn talk about easy. I solo'd this thing for my whm friend as a 62whm/17nin. Under leveled sub and all and i still beat him. My judgment and true strikes did the most damage. Although i stopped using stoneskin as soon as it came off from the first dimensional death, i kept utsusemi up as much as possible.

yeah i just killed him today as a 60Drg/30Whm. everyone thought i wasnt gonna be able to kill him cause of dimensional death but he wasnt that hard at all. DD did about 60-230 dmg a hit which i can easily heal with wyvern.

I had to use convert once, cuz marchelute is pretty fast and war didn't have much time to recast his utsu, and I was curing him all the time; spamming cure III, few times cure IV + debuffs, few elementals and some buffs that went off during the fight took lots of mp ^^;;
it took a bit of time... but there wasn't any scary situation, so it's ok ^^
and my whm has AF1 done ^^

I was talking to my LS who were doing a BCNM of some sort that was beyond my level. I think it was 60.. Anyway.. I mistelled and spoke in /say instead of /ls with the following line while waiting for the airship to Bastok to depart. "Yeah, I was shouting all day for help with Marchelute, but it seems once you get to Jeuno you never want to see Valkurm Dunes again." Followed by "Whoops, MT." A 60ish Dragoon overheard my conversation and /telled me "I'll help. Quick, let's get off the ship." I saw him standing right infront of me and knew he was no low level BSing me; I could see bits of AF armor. So, I followed him off the airship and together we went to Valkurm. I cured him a little, he beat the stupid out of Marchelute as a party of 4 - so bored waiting for more members - watched us with their Ooo's and Ahhh's. Marchie dropped, Pass dropped, Warped back to Sandy, got the hammer...life was good.

Did this last night to help WHM friend. Figured we should be able to own him together np.
Went as RDM/WARR 57 (warr sub was nice been a while) WHM/BLM 50
Pretty much just buffed up with stoneskin, blink, and phalanx and never took any real damage as i whittled away at the mobs hp. He does spam that tp move a lot, but at the level i was at the most damage i ever took was 87 I think.
I have seen a lot of pt's in the 40's get wiped on this mob but taking 1 50+ person SHOULD make it a breeze.
On a side note.. The WHM was doing mass damage with Banish II and Cure 3&4's on the mob. This badboy is Superweak to light based attacks. If I was gonna go at level i'd have a solid tank and a plan to CURE this mofo to death.

[sm]It says it's a repeatable quest.Well i went back to the guy to try and get the quest no go.also went to see if i could respawn it without talking to the guy or just get the item again no go.

Try and click on the ??? again. I think you don't have to talk to Narcheral again, cause a lot of times when I'm on the secret beach people just spawn him to get partys killed.
Sorry, you don't need 5 lvl60+ to defeat this.

IF YOU ARE DOING THIS QUEST, DO NOT BRAG ABOUT HOW EASY IT IS UNLESS YOU DO IT AT LEVEL 40, WITH A PARTY OF PEOPLE ALSO AT LEVEL 40.
If you take 5 level 60s with you, it sort of takes the challenge out of getting a level 40 item, and there is no point of bragging about how high the level of your friends are. It wasn't easy for you, it was easy for them. You did nothing but activate the monster.

Why? This weapon sucks ass, there is no reason to do it at 40.
If I had a WHM actually using their AF1, I would beat them to death with it.

use a solid wand er something... +5 mnd's better than +2 mnd and +10 MP.... sure the damage on the wand is poo... but how often do you actually melee stuff (please dont say "pretty often" cause then i'll be forced to let that other guy beat you down with your hammer).
At least this AF weapon is better than the shoddy one given to BLMs, it might come is half-usefull if i felt like going out and beating stuff up with my WHM (not that i do it often, but sometimes the mood strikes me to go club "too weak"s)

This is WAY better than a solid wand. MP is always better than MND on a WHM. This is better than anything else a WHM can wield at that level.

Well i havnt done this yet but just 1 Q: What is the recommended lvl to fight this thing?
I've bin to the other side and back. I know just how deep the rabbit hole goes...-_-
If I want to do this, can I start the quest, then change to my monk, and go spawn it and fight it? or does it have to be whm spawning it?

Just completed last night with no problems what so ever.
Party consisted of LS mates:
41 WHM/20BLM -- Nightmayre(me)
44 RDM/22BLM -- Sepultura
59 RDM/29BRD -- Darklighter
We all buffed up I spawned and bout 10 mins later done.....np at all.
I don't really know why anyone would have a hard time with this. Marchelute did Dimensional Death maybe 3-4 times, and didn't take much off Dark.
Well to all who haven't done this GL and have fun.

I tagged along with 2 other WHM for this one. Nothing else. I was a 50 WHM 25 BLM. We killed him twice no problem. We buffed up as much as possible before the battle with Stoneskin etc. and just healed each other. Who says WHM can't tank lol.

Yes, what you've heard is true. FFXI's endgame is just a giant E-peen swinging contest, with the majority of time spent standing around, and watching Moon-faced nerds "compare" video game "accomplishments" with each other via flame-wars on forums/in-game.

This NM is a breeze at 60...at least it was for me. I had the Whm along who had the quest and a rdm, just in case this dimensional death is as hard as everyone makes it seems. The Whm did nothing a few cures, the rdm did nothing...
I had 300% tp and hit raging fists for 1118, this guy was pissed. Spammed Dimensional death on me only each time max was about 250. At 60 I have over 1300 hp LoL. An easy fight Even my Howling fist hit it for 970 at 150%. The only thing that I think people believe this NM is hard, is that it spams Dimensional death near the end, but with a healer it is nothing. I even guarded a Dimensional death and took 98 points of Dmd lol.
Have a healer, and a DD of 60 or more if you want. It was <Too Weak>.
Fight took a minute, maybe a little more. No two hour was used =D
