The Crimson Trial - RDM AF1  

I take a break and i just came back on FF and to have some fun and get back in the game i choose to reset the af on my rdm but i got the quest up i'm in davoi everything clear but the NM wouldn't pop when i click ???

very challaneging at lvl 50 ( 50 rdm 25 blm)
had to use sleep nuke. only had 2 links , kept em slept untill i could deal with them.
use convert once, stonskin phalanx FWT!
i dint use DOT,s casue I wanted to have sleep nuke tactic for back up.
used choke and poison bio at less than half mark. second tp move with enthunder II.
can be done solo, but F keep focus and mind the links.

i kicked the mortal sh*t out of purple i just used my lvl 61war/mnk and killed it with one ws lol u didnt even have to use rampage i use one inch punch that thing is to weak and i have yet to find a NM that can challenge me and make me actually have to use rampage on it

This was my 4th week into playing FFXI, and I did this quest with a nin75 friend. It took all of 40 minutes for everything... killed 3 orcs, and ninja saw Purple pop and he killed it within 5 minutes. Then, the first storage hole we found gave me the food, and after that it was just a matter of getting out of Davoi. I'd recommend walking in the water to avoid lots of aggro.

Now I don't even use the sword itself, but for its benefits, and it was free except for the time spent. Being a first time player, the free part is really nice as rdm41 was my highest character and I wouldn't have been able to afford a L40 sword until way later.

I found a couple dozen different spots (at least) where the Storage Hole can spawn. You look for the star-shaped patterns on the ground, and the Storage Hole will be the one you can actually click on. It says "Storage Hole" in green.

Gurk on Gilgamesh

Did it with RDM 53 and another RDM 49. Killed it twice. Lots of HP, inevitable links (which we put to sleep).

Found the hole @ <<

Just Solo this as 75blm/whm. Very fun fight. Killed all the Orcs and waited for him to pop. Pulled with Burst II, did about 1.5k or 20% of his HP. Kept Stoneskin up, Aspir and drain when they are up. HP never fell below 880 :). Melee him to death with a Dark Staff. But found out at the end my Jupiter's Staff did alot more damage lol. I think he landed about 10hits total, but I do have Eva max + Merits from my Thf. I think my Thf would've killed him faster...but where's the fun in that.

Did this quest the other day with help from a mate (a level 71 BLM). Purpleflash spawned within a few minutes and we eventually took him down - Refresh was actually needed, he has a fair amount of HP. Nothing too difficult, but the fight took longer than I ever expected. No chance of me bringing him down alone.

Escaped to Jugner Forest then, and went back inside to hope that the Food Storage was just inside. Found it after a few minutes of running around bashing the tab button repeatedly, in one of the areas that was never going to aggro me. God the dried food, returned to Sandy, and got this rather fine sword :-)

Had to kill all the Orcs and lizzies for NM to pop. Easy fight even withhim resisting the Elemental Seal-->Silence. SATA+FastBlade went twice for about 300+dmg each. Watch the Blizzard 2's though. I got hit for 179 on one towards the end. Usual BLM spells though he didn't do too many -ga spells (thankfully). We started looking for the hole and looked near the fence. Word to the wise, don't go up the plank. %&RDM had EPs also. After WHM and myself were raised NM popped 5min later. Still looking for the Storage point

I attempted to solo this as blm75. Everything was going dandy until I linked about 4 orcs + 2 lizards. :D

So I killed purpleflash, but by enfeebles. I had 4 mp, and about 300 hp XD I couldn't cast anything or rest and I had used all my yag drinks and 2hr was down.

Needless to say, I died and had to hp, haha! but I got the key. I'll go back later and find the food.

Soloed the NM alone wif my sam 66/33thf

Meditate once and engaged, got a link from a orc (rng) beside which i ignored.
Tachi Gekko, whack whack whack tachi Gekko Pretty much repeat.
got another ORC ( Mnk ) aggroed which i ignored too.
Used 2hr when it drop to ard 40% and did 5 weapon skills on him with some skillchains killed it with about 400 HP starting from 1223. killed the other two aggro with little effort.. found hole near junger forest zone

I did this with me at 41rdm and my friend at 73mnk easy as hell the nm dropped quick, but right after aggroed like 8+ gobs and they owned the 73mnk it sucked hardcore... had to go back later and find the storage hole.

Did it as 75 WHM/37 NIN. arggoed all the mobs in the area by accident. had full health during the whole party. stoneskin and utsusami ni is all i used. plus i used hexa-strike ws. and found the storage hole F-6 5 minute later.

Beat this guy w/ me (RDM41/BLM20) and my friend who is whm62/blm30. As the other posts say...this guy has a ton of hp. I just kept refreshing my whm friend while he tanked. I threw in a Water II every once in a while, and when i had good mp I would melee w/ enwater. He did most of the big healing (like cure IV and such) while I did cure II on him a couple of times. But we beat it :P. Now for the hard part...finding that damn storage hole >.<. Wish me luck! ^^

Edit: Got it last night! Went to davoi by myself and shouted if anyone has seen the storage hole to /tell me. Was fighting easy preys...and got a link >.<...was saved by a high lvl mnk, then i asked that person if he has seen the storage hole. He has! I asked him to show me and sure enough...(and luckly) it was back where the Too Weaks are ...and that was the end of it. I walked to San d'Oria and claimed my prize...after seeing a kool cutscene. The cutscene left unanswered questions...I'm guessing as I do the rest of the AF quests I will see some closure.

Just killed him 3 times. easy as pie.
went as a 59nin/rdm, due to some horror stories and people sying things about bad linkage I came prepped with lots of pots/meds/drinks/food and my 2 hour (so die w/o exp loss since Id delvl, lol)

How much did I use?...not one freaking thing.

There wasa 42rdm/whm there with me who happened to be at camp when I showed up (expecting to solo it I think, after fight he was glad he didnt try lol. too bad you died to agro as I was logging, sorry safetynet! >.< ) Anyways. We buffed up with pro/shell II and refresh and we started the fight. I debuffed him down with ninjitsu then widdled away at his hp. He got to about 60% and manafonted, that wasnt too terribly bad since he didnt do many -ga spells. I took about 400dmg total from manafont, if that couple cures took care of that. His melee attacks are {Too Weak} hitting me for <20 when he did (he missed me a lot) At about 30% we had linkage with a brawler, I widdled it to about 60% then rdm just sleept it while we finished off purpleflesh. One thing though, purple has a lot of hp, I was hitting at around 65/katana and it was about 1-2% of his hp per round of attacks Blade: Chi swung for 500-600 and took maybe 6-8% of his hp so judge it that way. Anyways in the end I feel had I been solo I wouldve used a few yag drinks for refresh but otherwise I only needed a couple cures. and some of which were to rdm when he got caught with a nasty -ga once or twice.

Since the rdm needed key as well we killed again (I got first key but that would be rude to just leave someone who had no chance in soloing it to kill so :) ) This fight went even better, he used manafont earlier and used a lot more -ga this time around but still, no issue. and no links either. The mobs around this guy were EP- to the rdm so no issue at all. On the other side of the fence there was a veteran (which is what killed the rdmas I was logging) who was EP-- to me(its in the low 50s), an easy fight but just as a note to lower lvl parties that do this dont fight near the fence as it will link through it.

I talked to the guy and got the key and everything, but all the storage holes I checked were empty. I don't get it...

First of all, I would like to give a big shout out and massive thank you to all of my Linkshell friends who helped me with this quest. I did this quest last night with 2 of my LS members and a high level 75RDM who happened to be passing by. Started off with just 3 party members (67WAR, 42RDM, 44BLU) making our way through Davoi to F-9 where Purpleflash Brukdok spawns. Only myself (42RDM) and 44BLU had to use invisible for most of the way to avoid aggro from orcish bowshooters/gladiators and footsoldiers. My LS friend 67WAR was pwning orcs like there was no tomorrow, hitting them for 1003 damage with WAR WS "Rampage" duel wielding axe's. Anyway, we all got to the river bridge, just yards away from the ??? log bridge that you must activate to get to Purpleflash. Since myself (42RDM) was gonna get aggro from the Orcish Zirkets and other high lvl orcs nearby, my 67WAR ls friend cleared all nearby orcs for us, after which we rested quickly to heal mp before NM fight with Brukdok himself. We could see him already spawned beyond other side of the bridge. As we were healing, me and BLU got killed by orc gladiator hitting the hell out of us very quickly (he does attack very quickly so avoid gladiators at all costs). This is where a passing 75RDM/37WHM raised us and I asked if he would help me get my AF1 gear. No problem he said since he needed help when he was at my level and was only to happy to help - Thank You Takatosi (75RDM). Anyway, 75RDM pulled Purpleflash back over the bridge with 2 linked orcs, him and 67WAR whooped ass with these two links and Purpleflash himself within a matter of minutes with RDM using WS "Savage Blade" and WAR using WS "Rampage" he was a pushover. Me and Blu didn't really need to do anything but watch. Whole fight was over in less than 4 minutes. Got my Davoi storage key and found storage hole bout 10-15 minutes later around (F-6), traded my key and got the food. Whole thing took bout 30-45 mins to do with a lot of help. Couldn't have done this without my 2 LS friends and 75RDM. Afterwards, I warped back to sandy, talked to Shazrilion, watched CS and viola...got my AF1 fencing degen sword and what a beauty it is!

just did this quest with a friend from my LS and a very nice theif that i met in Davoi. thief (75 thf/ 37 nin) pretty well wiped the damn floor with Brukdok while my friend(65 whm/ 32 blm) healed him. he spammed Sleepga, but there was no manafont used, so i'd guess he only uses it after about 4 minutes *he died in 3.7 minutes for the pt i took, so i'm rounding up on it). i didnt even need to touch the ???, he was already out when we got to his spawn point...so he probably is already out whenever someone w/ this quest is around his area. i got lucky and saw the Storage hole on the way in right by the entrance, and it was there when i got back, so i count myself doubly lucky on that one. good luck to all yall that're about to go after this guy, and remember, he can still bring down a 75 if they're not properly equiped and healed.

Please help me if in my world

I've read and heard that the storage hole keeps constantly moving every minute or two. Can anyone confirm this? If true , can you just stay in one spot where people have found theirs and eventually the storage hole will come to you?

clicking on the ??? under the wood plank does NOT spawn the NM right on top of you.

I clicked it several times, nothing happened. I ran back to the west to where there were more orcs, nothing. Then as I turned back, I found that the NM had spawned behind me, in the passageway.

So, it could be that there is a delay after you click the ???.

It could also be that he is a timed spawn and it has nothing to do with that ??? .

I did this last night with my 47RDM/23BLM and a buddy 75BLM. We killed Purpleflash in....about 3-4 minutes. The dork just has alot of HP but he's a pushover. I also didn't see him manafont....O.o There's really not alot to watchout for with him, just keep up stoneskin and some other good buffs and hack away! >D Anyhoot, after we killed him, my buddy did escape, we walked back in, made a right and another right and "voila!" Storage Hole. This was easy as sin! Whole thing took less than 10 minutes. ^_^ Enjoy!

P.S. This is a very good sword. I'm Dual Wielding it with the buzzard tuck, and together those work wonders ^_-

Did this today as a RDM/BLM 50/25 with my lvl 49 NPC-buddy set to fierce attacker. Killed Purpleflesh Brukdok in 5-10 minutes or so. This is a really nasty NM for its level. I didn't get any exp from that fight. I debuffed it and let my NPC-buddy do the most of the work. Wacked also on it with my sword. When it is using manafont things will go nasty, had to heal my NPC-buddy alot.
After the fight I was worried that I wouldn't find the storage hole, but luckily I found it 15 minutes later at K-10

Me and my brother (44Rdm and 57Smn) have duoed Poisonhand and a plethora of other NMs here(as 42rdm and 57smn), with links and stuff, would we be able to duo this NM effectively?
