Summary

Phara needs some sword grip material to repair her son's sword. The material can be found in a tent in Davoi. Once repaired, Phara wants to give the sword to her grandson.

Walkthrough

Begin this quest by speaking to Phara, who is standing at J-9 in front of the residential district of Bastok Mines. She will request some sword leather.

Next, head to Davoi to find some sword leather. Search the orc tents at K-9 and K-10 to find a hidden flap, which randomly appears throughout the area. When you examine the hidden flap, two notorious monster orcs -- Gavotvut and Barakbok -- will appear. After defeating the orcs, you must search the area again for the hidden flap. Examine it again to receive your sword leather.

Return to Bastok Mines and trade the leather to Phara. Wait one game day and speak to her again, and she will give you a key item, Yasin's Sword, and ask you to give it to her grandson Naji.

Find Naji, who is standing outside the president's office in the Metalworks. Talk to him to receive your Razor Axe.

I did this quest yesterday morning and it was quite fun. I went with my bro-in-law who's an Elvaan WAR/NIN, but seeing as how I'm many levels higher I decided to be the one to tank. That too and it's easier to keep myself alive with debuffs & cures then another.. anyways, we proceeded to clear out all the nearby spawns before making Barakbok & Gavotvut appear. Standard practice, except for the fact that killing these guys just so happened to make Steelbiter Gudrud ALSO spawn in the same exact spot (!). An Orcish Beastrider also came over, so here I was with 3 NMs on me and a regular mob. Fun times were had. ^^

The first thing I did was to try and sleep the DRK (Barakbok) and focus on the WAR (Gavotvut). Well, seeing as I didn't bother to eat a pie and I didn't Elemental Seal it, he resisted. So I just said hell with it, cast Phalanx, Stoneskin, Blaze Spikes, Enwater and Haste and just beat the crap out of the WAR. I was taking barely any damage even when the Stoneskin faded, as Steelbiter hadn't summoned his wyvern yet and the regular Orc does 0 damage vs Phalanx. I did make one serious error which almost killed me, and that was using Vorpal Blade with Last Resort and Souleater active. All four hits landed, and I did more then 700 points of damage with about 150 TP.. unfortunately this killed my Stoneskin instantly (which I talk about on the RDM forum about the vices and virtues of my RDM/DRK combo) and sapped a good 30%-40% of my HP in the attack. A Cure IV later and I felt better, but I admit I get a little overconfident in using that ability vs NMs..

The reason I kept the DRK alive during this fight instead of killing him first is because I was able to keep on casting Aspir every half minute to regain mana. When Gavotvut fell shortly after using Mighty Strikes, I turned my attention to the Orcish Beastrider and killed him quickly, cast Sleep II on Steelbiter, and then focused on Barokbok. He took a while to die, and when he used Blood Weapon he only hit me once.. and drained a whopping 4 HP from me.. his criticals were considerably nastier though and quite frequent, so beware of them when fighting this guy.

Lastly, we turned to Steelbiter, killed him and his wyvern and I got an Orc Piercer, a bit of gil, and the satisfaction of taking on a trio of NMs simultaneously. ^^

Did this twice on my level 58 WHM, with a Ninja and a Warrior in the mid-40's. No deaths, but I did have to use my 2-hour in the first fight due to linkage by an orc and a warmachine. Our stategy was to let the Ninja occupy the WAR NM with his blink tanking while the WAR and I took down the DRK mob (who we thought was going to be a BLM thanks to the info on this site).

The mobs are DRK and WAR type, and use their respective two-hours at 50% health. Not too hard for a balanced party, but watch for links, as these guys have a lot of HP.

NM Fight

Today I got my Razor Axe, and let me tell you the Davoi part was harder than I thought it would be >_< When I got there it was me (WAR46/THF23) a RDM42/BLM41 a PLD58/WAR29, and a DRK35/MNK17 (he was there for Magicite >_>) anyway, we get into Davoi and go for the NMs before the Magicite. We find the Hide Flap and prepair, I spawn the NMs and BAM! My HP starts to plummet, the RDM Elemental Seal -> Sleeped the WAR (Gavotvut) but then the DRK hit him instead of Barakbok and woke him up x_X;; So he then proceeded to brutally slaughter us. After the messiest zoning ive ever been in, the RDM was down, the DRK was shaking, and the PLD was trying to avenge our slain mage, only too soon find himself healing in Jugner Forest. The PLD and I went back in for Round 2, and he pulled Gavotvut. We ripped the things head off, one at a time the NMs are SO easy. Even when he used Mighty Strikes we walked away with almost full HP. Sadly tho Barakbok despawned... then a near by WAR71/WHM35 raised our RDM, who then Warped to Jeuno to recover. Then the WAR71 decided to help us ^_^ After we got settled again and our RDM came back, we respawned both mobs and destroyed them. The PLD and the RDM took Barakbok while the WAR, DRK and I took on Gavotvut. The 71WAR spammed Vorpal Blade and used his 2 hour and decimated Gavotvut, then we all slaughtered Barakbok. Overall this is easy with sufficient help and a good startegy ^_^;;
My Story

I just completed this and it was very easy. Party layout: Myself (41 war), 41Whm Taru, 52Whm Mit, 55Drk Hum. We walked in, killed all the orcs in the room while the Drk and I built up 300% TP, then I hit the flap. The 52 whm elemental seal-slept Gavotvut (the warrior Orc). The Drk and I immediately went to work on the other one, using my two-hour (probably unnecessarily). We did a good renkei (Vorpal Scythe -> Sturmwind) which is a water magic burst (orcs weak to water), and were able to destroy the BLM just as the other one was waking up. Towards the end of the second battle, the Drk was draining himself back fo full HP. I lost only about 200 hp the entire time, and the two WHMs only used about half their MP. Teleported to Altepa when we were done, then I walked through Korroloka to Bastok Mines, and they all warped back to Jeuno.

All in all, I'd say it was very easy. I think we could have gotten by with 1 whm, especially since I have very good armor and the Drk just got Absorb-DEX. Good luck!

get high level help (2 lvl 60+) in your party. now listen up - each member in your party that has this quest active must force the NM to spawn so you will be having a lot of downtime between fights for healing and TP building (unlike the eco-warrior and some of the adv. job quests). the tier 4 orcs in the spot will check anywhere from decent to tough to a lvl 40-42 warrior so a healer is needed if there is aggro. all the orcs got to be cleaned out in the area where the fight is to be triggered to prevent major linkages.

when fighting, have one lvl 60+ person keep the WAR NM busy while everyone ambushes the BLM NM first. Once the BLM goes, the WAR should go quickly after that.

I heard that her grandson is "Naji"..
I forgot the <position>.. but Naji is in the MetalWorks area which is accessiable through the Bastok Markets district. Go up the elevator and head towards the President's Office and he will be on you right side by the stairs. I'm a THF and just reading up on this for a friend, so I thought I'd leave what I found. ^^v Good Luck! I hope this is right.
