Summary

The Tenshodo is gathering expert thieves to its fold. Carry out your orders by handing the Tenshodo envelopes to the appropriate people and having them sign the documents within.

Walkthrough

Start this quest by talking to Nanaa Mihgo at J-3 in Windurst Woods. Next, head to the Tenshodo headquarters in Lower Jeuno; to get in, you will need a Tenshodo Invite.

Just inside the HQ, talk to Harnek for a cutscene in which you and several other thieves are given envelopes and sent out to find old members of a legendary band of thieves. You are told to find a galka thief in Selbina.

Head to Selbina and talk to Elfriede at J-9 in the Shepherd's Muster Inn. In a cutscene, the thief Sneaking Tiger appears and says you must prove you are worthy by bringing him a Quadav Stew. The stew can only be stolen from certain quadavs in Beadeaux, including Garnet Quadavs, Silver Quadavs, Zircon Quadavs and Bronze Quadavs. Using thief as a subjob on a different high level job works ok for stealing the stew. Once you get the stew, return to Selbina and trade the stew to Elfriede for another cutscene with Sneaking Tiger. Then head back to the Tenshodo in Lower Jeuno and talk again to Harnek. After the ensuing cutscene, you receive your Marauder's Knife.

Got it in about 8 steals (estimated) off various quadavs. Finally stole it from a silver quadav from the upper level (pulled with ranged attack.) THF39/NIN19 at the time with no steal+ gear. Now time to get level 40 so I can finish the quest ><

I tried all the approaches (Stealing while in battle, stealing while not in battle, stealing while the enemy faced someone else, stealing while the enemy was casting a spell) and none worked for a long time, but last night I finally got it off of a Bronze Quadav who wondered to close to the edge, I just walked upder him and hit my steal macro and got the stew without any struggle.

Level 37 = 0/12
Level 39 = 1/9

I tried all the Quadav who supposively have the stew, but finally got mine off of the Bronze.

Got it from a bronze quadav (ranged attacked him to bring him down from the higher level) after my fourth attempt. I recomend if you are doing it on your on, don't mess with the zircons - Sleep is a nasty thing o.O - probably won't get you killed, but it'll waste time.

I won't even question what the stew is made of..
Got it!!

The steal wasn't hard at all. Got it on the second Quadav I tried to steal it from, which happened to be a Bronze one. >.>

The only thing that sucked about this quest was all the running.

First try i tried a Silver Quad and failed.
Second try, Silver Quad, Fail
Third try, Bronze Quad, Got the Stew
I'd say go with the Bronze Quad, it seems like it drops more.

You talk to Elfriede, woman behind counter when you entered the Shepards Mustard in selbina.

Cutscene with thief will appear. (stole mine from a bronze quadav in beadux, before i came to selbina)

Trade your Quad stew to Elfriede after you get it. Another cutscene will show & he will sign your envelope.

AF Quest #1 Thief

This is easy, if not the easiest of the AF1 Quests.
It Requires Talking to an NPC in the Neptunes Spire(Lower Jeuno), soon, after a cutscene, You are sent to Selbina to meet a prestigous thief from old times, he asks you to get a Bowl of Quadav Stew from the Silver, Zircon, and Garnet Quadav. Which are easily found in Beadeaux, an Area in the south-easternmost corner of the Pashow Marshlands, which is South of Rolanberry Fields.

To easily complete this quest, pull one of the aforementioned Quadav from the ledge just inside the zone, then when it gets close to the zone border, cross the zone, then walk back inside, and steal from the unclaimed Quadav, Most of the time, Your steal will be successful and you will acquire the Quadav Stew.

Then take it back to Selbina and talk to the woman behind the counter of the inn. Which will open another cutscene resulting in the signing of the Tenshodo Letter. Soon after, Go to the Neptunes Spire(Lower Jeuno) and return the signed letter to the starting NPC, then, you will receive your Marauder's Knife, and a fair amount of Tenshodo Fame(Norg Fame).
The stats on the Marauders Knife are as follows:
ATK: 15 DEX+2 AGI+2

This is one of the best knives for thieves at that level and should be attained as soon as possible, then you should upgrade from the Marauder's Knife to the Bone Knife+1 at Lv.46

It took me 33 trys to finally get this stew. I finally got it from a Bronze Quadav. I hate this quest more than any other quest in the game that i have done so far. 33X5(cool down) sucks! A friend of mine got his from a Bronze on the 20th steal. I tried Silver, Garnet, and Bronze in those 33 attepmts in case you were wondering. You people are soooooooo lucky to have gotten it on the first or 2nd trys. I had a 51 pld with me when i was trying all these. Stealing from behind.
Just WOW

OK very unexpected thing happened about this quest, i'm a 29THF/WAR cant even dream bout doing this quest yet, me and a lvl 69 BST /THF were killin turtles for mission 4 and selbina quest, and killin for fun and gil, almost everything is too high for me to hit or steal from, but i'm having fun with a friend, earlier i steal a Mythril cion and get all excited, thenn nothing for about 30 minutes. so we're fighhting a broze quadav,

"Olinin fails to steal from Broze Quadav"

"Orteal steals a bowl of Quadav Stew from the Broze Quadav"

now i was on ly going to take THF to 37 nd use for sub but now i'm gonna go to at least 40 so i can use this stew for AF

Did this quest yesterday.. piece o' cake :) - if you can stand all the running around that is.
Was lv40 thf (I don't see the point of doing this before lv40 but w/e) and got the stew second steal.

For my first attempt I went for the back of a Silver Quad but he agroed me and turned around before I could steal >< do I smell that bad?! My steal attempt failed while he was facing me.

Struck the jackpot on the second attempt.. someone attacked a quad and a silver one linked (I wasn't too worried about the guy... he was lv74 blm - with no /anon omg). I took my chance before he cast a AoE spell so went around the back of the quad and KABLAMMO! Damn I love the noise it makes when you steal :D

You don't even need flee for this (I wasn't even using Utsusemi).. I was taking ~20 dam a hit so I coulda probably walked outta there. IMO thf main is best, and stealing from behind works very well. If you can drag a friend along to get agroed - neither of you even have to engage - and steal from the back you should get the stew soon enough.

Just been reading quests for other thf AF stuffs.. {/sigh} gonna take a {Long time}

There is no reason not to use Flee on your way back. Flee timer & Steal timer are both 5:00 so they`ll keep being synchro and ìt will save you resting time not to have to recover HP.
Finally!

After two attempts, maybe 3 hours total, I finally stole the stew...my first successful attempt at stealing, too. I wish I could remember who posted the advice on running around the mob a few times and then stealing from behind cuz I'd rate you up! It's the only thing that worked for me, and on the first time I tried it. Just wished I'd remembered it three hours sooner.

Bringing someone along who can pull while you steal is probably a good way to go, too.

Thanks for all the tips! ~Tsu

Actually, if u read the statement that SE made, things like attributes, being behind the mob, having SA active, running around it, the phase of the moon, stuff like that does NOT effect stealing. According to the statement they released, the only thing that effects stealing is certain equipment, meaning the equipment that says Steal+ some number, like the Rabbit's Charm and i believe some of the AF has that.
That being said, I think they must have increased the difficulty of getting this item in a recent patch, because I've spent hours there as well and haven't been able to get it, and I have the Rabbit charm. and yes, i too tried all the suggestions people made just to see if it would work, and it hasn't.

Ok, just an update: I think you have to talk to the lady behind the counter in Selbina again after u talk to the galka, because as before mentioned, i spent hours trying to steal this and i couldn't. well, i gave up for a bit and was leveling rng, and went there for arrows, and i talked to the lady and she said something like, oh u poor adventurer, being made to steal a bowl of quadav stew from those horrible beastmen. well, on the next day i decided to suit up in my thf equip and go try again, run in, pull a silver from the top, steal, it drops. first try. i had spent hours in there with no drop, after talkin to lady, drops on first attempt. just a suggestion to all of u to try out.

Nope, as a matter of fact, you dont even need to be a thf to get it. I got mine first try with PLD60/THF30. Just gotta play the chance game.

this was easy as hell!

first run: go in, saw a silver right at a edge, steal, no drop, run out (not with flee) and wait 5min

second run: ok this time i try a nother one. oh, there is a silver again on the other side, ok i take him, steal, drop, done

the hardest part of this quest is the walking/teleporting/chocobo
bananas

Crap.

My friend was looking for the AF1 quest and was in beadeaux stealing from mobs. I said "It can't be that easy to get. He said he got 'some stew' and I said 'eh, it's probably not important, but save it'.

I think he might have eaten it. He's gonna kill me.

RE: Zircon confirmed
# Feb 16 2005 at 4:37 PM Rating: Good
I got luckier...
First try off of a Zircon ^^
This quest is extremely easy, aside from the running back and forth (I was still rank 4 when I did it, so no airships for me >< ).
Also, there is some Bastok quest that involves killing the lower tiered Quadav in Beadauex (which is mentioned in another guide for all thief AF armor, will post a link once I find it). I actually saw someone doing this when I was there. After talking to him for a minute, we settled that I would help him kill the last few Quadav that he needed, so I wouldn't kill him zoning the ones I needed.
No exaggeration, once I grabbed the Stew off the first Zircon I pulled and zoned out, he was still resting out there.
Drops prior to receiving the quest

The Stew can be stolen prior to receiving this quest; at level 30 I successfuly stole it from an Elder Quadav while waiting for the De'Vyu Headhunter to respawn, during an LS-wide Rank 5 event. Note that I did have a Rabbit Charm (Steal +1) equipped at the time.

Hey same thing happend to me today, and i rarely miss on stealing. But you have to make sure you get the quest from the galka in selbina and he asks for the stew. If u just go out to beadeaux without the quest, u get nothing. I had my lvl47PLD and lvl56RDM friend come and help me, do mission 3-1, and farm for helms and drops at the same time. And i got nothing for an hour. Gonna get the quest and try later.
RE: no drop -_-

Im 42THF/21WAR i just got my quest yesterday and went directly to Jeuno but when i got there i couldnt acces the Tenshodo guy, the door was locked (im rank 2 from windurst).
I had the letter but just couldnt go in, then i came here and realized i needed to have completed the Tenshodo Quest so i decided to buy a Tenshodo Invitation instead for 5k, and i talked to the NPC just inside the Tenshodo HQ and still nothing happened, she only give 2 options, i also heard i had to scroll down for an "invisible" thid option, but didnt work either..
Do i need rank 4!!?? or Fame lvl? im confused about this, i cant enter even with my invitation, Help plz

I don't know if they HAVE to be on the top floor, or if I'm just a case of dumb luck.

I went into Beadeaux today to get the stew, and I liked the idea of stealing without alerting the mob first. Well, I realized I could open the Heavy Sliding Door to the right of the entrance. Inside were two Silvers. I tried 3 or 4 times to steal from one of the Silvers. No good. On my next attempt, I tried ranging a Bronze on the upper level and stealing from him when he got to me. Got the stew right away.

I want to think it's just a coincidence.
