Description

Blandine is looking for her missing husband who took the ship to Selbina. Talk to her and then to Grimr and Zexu outside on the dock. Talk to Blandine again one last time and finally to Celestina. She mentions her missing father was wearing a sand charm. Get on the ship and fight Crossbones and hope a sand charm drops. Bring it back for your reward.

just got my charm today, pirates came and i killed about 6 xbones and ship wights. got one charm. the pirate mages replenish dead skellies shortly after you kill them. so keep killing until you get one cause more will spawn. Oh and iirc pirates appear when its foggy weather on the boat. also note, though the crossbones and ship wights checked ep (lvl 45nin) the ship wights were a much longer fight. charm dropped off a crossbone though. i was also hunting a charm (not in pty but the only other person killing the pirates) he killed maybe 10-15 i got my 6-7 or whatever, and we both got charms. both on the last "round" of guys put on deck, shortly before putting into selbina.
Time?

Is there a particular time to ride for this or is it random?
The order...

First you talk to Blandine, then Grimr, then Zexu, Then Blandine again (cut scene), then you talk to the daughter in the godlsmith shop (name starts with a C). I believe you then get the quest. At that point you trade the Sand Charm to the daughter. You get another cut scene.

I fought the pirates one time, we got the drop twice. We were level 33. I believe the more pirates you kill, the more come. So get on a busy boat, have the luck to get pirates, and then start rampaging. They keep coming as long as you keep killing. There is a limit of course, but I've fought pirates three times. And the number of pirates seemed to have to do with the number of deaths.

The info was correct... I talked to Blandine near the boat rental area... rented the boat... on boxes near dock were 2 more people I had to talk to... I tried to talk to blandine then.. but nothing happened... I exited dock area went to goldsmithy shop.. attempted to buy from Celestina... she didn't say anything to me... but after that I went back to Blandine and THEN she talked to me... cut scene and all... not I just need to kill crossbones

This post was actualy by me when I hadn't logged in.

I have tried many times to get a Sand Charm but since pirates don't spawn often... it seems like a rare drop... and at best I can kill 3 of them before it's all over... this quest has moved to my "I'll get to it when I feel like it..." pile.

I have done many map quests... almost all of them... crawlers nest and fei'yin being 2 of the more annoying ones. But this one takes the cake.

Fei'yin quest was annoying?

The first two book quests are just running around, barely require any actual work.

the fei'yin quest itself -- slime oil sells for 500gil in san d'oria AH, frost turnip for 300 in windurst AH (this is on Titan about 3 days ago). You still make 2200 gil and get the map.

as for this quest -- I'm only level 31WHM right now, no way I'm takin' Crossbones yet. :(

The stories of people getting this 1st time are harsh. Ive camped the ferry for 4 real days pretty much straight through and killed lots of crossbones and not got this to drop yet.

Currently 47sam/war

Blandine, not Celestina

You don't talk to Celestina, you talk to Blandine again, and Celestina appears in the cutscene. Please update this guys.

Ok correction, after talking to Blandine again, you find Celestina in the goldsmiths guild. Talk to here there to get the quest after tslking to the others.

I've tried getting the sand charm, but haven't gotten a drop yet in the limited number of kills I've managed. And lately my main problem has become a lack of pirate showings, haven't seen them in many ferry trips. Is there any way to know when they'll show up? They check weak/easy to me at lv40, but as a blm/whm killing them is not too easy.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 09 2004 at 2:17 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i was lvl 45 thief and got the sand charm on the second kill =)
Confused Directions.

Blandine is waiting near the exit from the docks. Grimr and Zexu are sitting/standing on some crates on the Dock side. and as for Celestina, having hard time finding her.

I was a lvl 30 whm/ 13 blm
The Japanese character had 3 crossbones on him.
I decided to kill one that was near to death with Cure III to take the load off and I got the drop ^^. At lvl 30, the crossbones were decent to me. Ship wight was considered IT for me. I actually had 3 crossbones and the Ship Wight on me. I was thankful for the help from the Japanese PC.

Again for the record you'll want to be at least level 40+ to take on any pirate Mob, and much higher if you wind up catching a link (particularly from the Ship Wight). I would strongly recommend against trying to solo any of the pirate mobs below that level (especially for mage classes). They hit you very hard, silence you, put you to sleep, blind you and tend to respawn very quickly.

This is not a trifling fight as others would have you believe. Don't underestimate the pirates and do this one with a party so you can support each other.

I was just on the boat from Selbina -> Mhaura and we got attacked by pirates. The music on the boat changes when it happens. I went above deck to find wrights and crossbones. At level 28 mnk / 13 war most of them checked as even/tough/inc tough. I managed to kill one of the evens with my 2 hour, but he didn't drop :-\.

Do you need a certain amount of Mhuaru fame to do this quest, cause I have done nearly all the cooking quests in town and I cant even get this one started. What is fame in Mhuaru linked to? Do I need to stuff those sheep in Selbina again, I seem to have high fame everywhere except this little town.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 10 2003 at 2:00 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Dont know what fame you need but i do know you only have to talk to Blandine and Celestina (in guild upstairs) to get quest.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 10 2003 at 2:05 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ok correction i did talk to Grimr and Zexu but they are not upstairs the are on dock, you have to pay 100 gil to talk to them
