Description

> Here's an updated version of my Warp II walkthrough. It's much more detailed than its previous version, so I don't think anyone will get lost now.^^ >
> In order to get this quest, you must lead Shantotto to believe you're a total loser. >
> When you speak to her, she'll ask you a question. Off the top of my head, I can't remember what it is, but it's something about having a black mage buddy. Choose the second option. Shantotto will then ask you another question, and again, choose the option where she'll believe you're a total loser. (The second question I can't remember, but I think it's the second option too.) >
> Shantotto will bestow you with the title: Total Loser. >
> Before leaving Windurst, make sure you have some sort of warping ability, be it with a spell or with a scroll of Instant Warp. >
> Then, head out to Beaucedine Glacier. To get there, however, you need to travel through Ranguemont Pass in northeast East Ronfaure. >
> In Ranguemont Pass, you will see a pair of Elvaans standing before a glowing granite door. Speak to the one behind the podium and he'll open the door for you. Once past the door, continue forward, hugging the right wall. You will then enter an area where you must walk across some ponds. Right after it, you'll come across a fork with a Cave Scorpion at the intersection. Go to the left, but keep hugging the right wall. >
> Once in Beaucedine Glacier, follow the tunnel and head out onto the glacier. Keep following the one-way route until you pass the first tower. A little bit further, the road splits at (H-9) to the north and east. Keep going east as north leads to Xarcabard. When you reach the cliff, head northeast to (I-8) where you have to take the slope downward. Once you do so, head north and you'll see the tower at (I-7) where Torino-Samarino is at. The tower, at least when I went to it, had Living Statues in the first area. Head down the stairs and you'll see Torino-Samarino. Drop invisible and speak to him and you'll get the Key Item: Shantotto's New Spell. However, do not recast Invisible until you leave the sight of the Living Statues as they aggro to magic. >
> Head back outside to the glacier and head south to (I-9) and head down the slope once more. Head east to (J-9) then head north, past the tower and a frozen pond to (J-6) where you will need to head down another slope that leads to an open field. Here, make sure you have Invisible on as goblins and golems roam around the area. (Previously, I had said to Sneak up, but undead rarely roam here.) Head north and you'll see Fei'Yin. >
> In Fei'Yin, you'll find numerous magic pots, dolls, evil weapons and golems which all aggro to magic, so be careful when recasting your spells. For the most part, all you need is Sneak to traverse through Fei'Yin. Golems, however, do aggro to sight so be sure to cast Invisible when you see them. If you follow this guide, you should only encounter golems once and I'll let you know where. >
> Also, when I say "head north", make sure your character is running north according to the compass. By north, I'm not saying keep going forward. Just be sure to change your camera angle each time I mention a new direction. >
> Once inside Fei'Yin, keep walking down the hallway and you'll enter a small room with more than likely just bats in it. Keep heading straight and down a small flight of steps up until you get into another room, this one much bigger than the previous one you were in. Take the eastern (G-9) hallway. As you traverse through this hallway, it'll fork twice. Just keep walking straight until you come across another room. Take the northern hallway, which will curve to the west and down a flight of steps. >
> At the bottom of the steps, you should be safe if you need to rest up. If you see Underworld Bats roaming across the hallway, just walk up on the steps and rest up there. >
> Once ready, walk down the hallway until you reach a room at (H-8). Take the northwestern exit into a hallway that'll fork. Keep heading north and follow the hallway as it curves to the east, leading you to another fork; this one going north and east. Go north at the fork and stop a few steps short of the room you should now be facing. >
> In the room before you, you'll find golems. Be sure to cast Invisible or use Prism Powders now. The golems conned "easy prey" to a level 75, though they did not aggro. I'd hate to see what they do to someone not as high-levelled. >.< >
> Once you have both Sneak and Invisible up, head into the room and follow the left wall. Walk past two doorways and head into the third. Here, hug the right wall, past a room full of Dromas, and into a hallway. You've done it! Open the first cermet door on your right and you'll see a cutscene with Rukusu. Cast Warp on yourself, or use an item with an equivalent effect, to leave Fei'Yin. >
> Return to Windurst and talk to Shantotto. After a cutscene, she'll reward you with the Warp II scroll and the title: Doctor Shantotto's Flavor of the Month.

To address the problem that a lot of people seem to be having, since the guide doesn't say this:

Shantotto giving you the title total loser does not mean you have the quest.
Shantotto will tell you about going to Beaucedine Glacier to talk to Torino-Samarino, which starts the quest. Also, make sure you have "Curses, foiled A-Golem?" in your quest log.

Then you will not run into the problem of Torino-Samarino not talking to you.

This is a bit odd. My subjob is a level 20 Summoner (I'm just a 32 Red Mage, got my SMN to level 20 for avatar purposes) and I was looking through one of my FFXI guides (the Final Fantasy XI Atlas, to be exact) and it said (I'm quoting this exactly) "You will recieve more quests from other scholars. Among others, you will recieve the black magic, Warp II, by completing the third quest from Dr. Shanttoto. This is a spell that can be obtained only through this quest, so make sure you listen to her comments carefully." I find it odd that this was found in a section about obtaining the ability to become a Summoner. Is it related in any way?

Here I am sitting freezing my *** off in Beaucedine Glacier, trying to have a nice conversation with Torino-Samarino about the reason I've traveled all the way up here to see him, and all he does is spout off some talk about the Pso'Xja ruins in which I dont have any interest.

Anyone know how to get him to segue from talking about the Pso'Xja ruins and into talking about this quest?

I got the "Total Loser" title by picking option #2, then #1, respectively.

Headed out to Beaucedine via Tele-port Vahzl, got to the tower at (I-7), talked to Torimo-Samarino and received... nothing. Headed to Batallia downs to do Mea scroll quest and got it, so it wasn't a total loss at least.

Warped back to Jeuno, flew to Windurst, talked to Shantotto again. Picked #2 first again, then #2 (not #1, as I had previously) and got the quest! Did NOT receive "Total Loser" title either, so I don't think you need to get the title to obtain the quest. (I had done other title quests in between so this is confirmed) Haven't been back to Beaucedine yet, so let's hope this works. =)

Edit - It worked. I went all the way back to Beaucedine and talked to Torimo-Samarimo again, and received the Key Item: Shanttoto's New Spell. Then I went to Feiyin, talked to Rukusuku.

Btw, if you have all the maps (Beaucedine, Feiyin) and Teleport-Vahzl, this quest is a piece of cake. If you have a whm sub (or main) 25 or above this is an even easier piece of cake. This quest took me all of a half hour, once I received the quest.

Another Note. I've noticed a lot of people having trouble triggering the quest. Like I said earlier in my post, I did NOT have the "Total Loser" title when I talked to Torimo-Samarino my second time. Also remember to pick Option #2, then #2. And ALSO remember that you MUST have this quest active in your quest log to get the Key Item from Torimo-Samarino! If you don't have a cutscene with Shantotto after picking your answers, you WILL NOT have the quest active!

Good luck! ^^

I just finished the first two quests today, and I can't get the warp 2 part started ><
Having the same prob as a few other posts around here, where shantotto just says something about hello, and goodbye...etc

Any help would b much appreciated!
A good scroll to sell (400k on Pandy right now), and at 52rdm/blm it should be pretty decent for me to solo, as long as i keep sneak/invisi up ^^
I've waited as few game days, and done multiple zones but no luck ; ;

i had the same problem relating to the taru in the tower only saying the dialogue relating to the CoP missions that i had previously completed. For some reason, when i had talked to him multiple times and wiated for a bit, and talked to him again, it suddenly worked -_-;; So if you're having the same problem, just talk to him a few more times, and he should get to the Warp II quest

Dr. Shantotto keeps saying to me "Hello ~ and Goodbye and something like I'm not allowed in here, it's only for retired ministers and scholars who wish to continue their studies." or something simular.

What am I doing wrong? What else do I do?

I got the title Total Loser, then teleported to Xarcabard, ran to Beucedine, and went to the tower and talked to Torino-Samarino, but he wouldn't give me the key item.

I talked to the other 2 taru NPCs, then talked to Torino again. I tried zoning into Pso'Xja, zoning back out, and talking to Torino again. Still no key item.

Torino only has 2 dialogues when I talk to him, and both are related to CoP missions (I've completed all the missions already).

Anyone know whether I'm missing a step, or whether this is a bug where if you are deep into CoP missions, Torino will keep talking to you about CoP and won't give you the key item?

i did it!

I think this guide may be a little off, unless I'm missing something.

I talking to the taru in windy, answered the questions, got the titel "total loser", and proceeded to glacier.

Found the tower at I-7, Torino-Samarino is inside, but *not* at the bottom of the stairs, he's at the top. There is no cutscene when I talk to him and he gives me no key item.
Getting quest

You don't need to lvl blm to do this quest, I did it as PLD/WHM, my blm is still lvl 1. All you need to do is make sure you've completed the first to Shantotto quests, then if you still can't get it, just keep drilling at fameable quests, repeatable ones are good, The All New C-3000 for example or Teacher's Pet.
Not able to get quest

I have the required level 4 Windurst fame for this quest, however Dr. Shantotto keeps saying Hello ~ and Goodbye and something like I'm not allowed in here, it's only for retired ministers and scholars who wish to continue their studies.

Can someone please help me with this?

I spent way too long on this quest, not the guides fault... Very nice walkthrough only passed the door because guide relied on a room full of Dromas, and there where none there, so i kept walking... >.<

But other than that It was a great walkthough did it first with my Blm 38/whm with oil and powders, then ran out, had to come back with more and my whm 31/blm 15...

I took my 26 WHM for Sneak/Invis, and a friend of mine who also needed this quest, came with me. A Level 60 DRK.

Once in the tower in Beaucedine Glacier, there were 2 living statues there, and he easily killed them both. He went to chekc on his laundry, they re-spawned, and he killed them a second time. The first one used "meltdown", which is like a bomb's "self-destruct". It hit me for 212 DMG w/ shell and protect up. I immediatly cast cure 3 on myself, and the other one aggroed me. Hit me for 162. Friend killed it, we moved on.

This guide makes it seem like it's a long trip, but once in Fei'Yin, we took less than 5 minutes to arrive at the cermet door. Everything checked Too Weak to my DRK friend, and the Golems checked as Decent Challenge.

Real easy quest, and worth the effort; which should be minimal w/ this guide. I had all maps, except for the map to Rauguemont Pass.

I followed the guide exactly with my 25 WHM and ended up only using 3 prism powders and 1 silent oil. I also did not have any of the maps.

I would like to reiterate the importance of Silent Oils and Prism Powder in this quest, even for mages. There are a few occasions where you simply cannot recast Sneak or Invis due to magic aggro.

I encountered 2 situations where there was not any way for me to recast sneak and invis without aggro, but I managed to use a silent oil or prism powder (just barely I might add).

This quest isn't incredibly risky if you're careful and don't get lost, but there are 1 or 2 places in Fey'Yin where you are simply screwed if sneak or invis wears at an inopportune time because a safe recast point is more than 20 seconds away.

I did this quest today using this wonderful guide. After I talked to Rukusu, I cast Warp on myself... only to be aggro'd by a Colossus (golem). My guess is that it was the one in Rukusu's room, but I'm not about to go back to confirm this.

What I mean to say is, it might be a better idea to take a Scroll of Instant Warp, even if you have the actual spell. Good luck to all who make this stressful run!
Phew!

Woo! First post on Allakhazam!

Anyways, I'm just heading from Sandy to Windurst to finish up this quest, and I must say... Probably one of the most stressful quests I've done so far! My main is BLM40, but I used my WHM30 for the Sneak/Invis. I had no map, but this guide basically took away any need for one :) Great job on it!

But ya, there weren't any really hard parts, or even much risk to myself (my sneak/invis generally started to wear out somewhere where I could safely recast it) but still, I could barely take my eyes away from my screen to look over at the guide, I was so worried about missing something, like an effect wearing off.

Anywho, just wanted to basically give a huge thank you to Yorlan for the awesome guide :)
Hurray!
# Mar 24 2005 at 2:57 PM Rating: Decent
Just have to say this guide is spot on. As long as you have faith, a little inititive and follow the guid 100% then you get through fine.
I'm a 25 rdm/12 whm and managed to do the quest. As long as you have invis/ sneak or Prism Powders/ Silent Oils you'll be ok as long as you follow the guide. It does take a while but now I'm 200k richer (warp II price on Remora)... also I didn't have any of the maps.

I just did this quest today using a lvl 26 whm/blm. I did it successfully thanks to this guide.

I had to backtrack once in Ranguemont Pass, at the intersection with the Cave Scorpion, because the scorpion was in the tunnel to the right, and I was hugging the right wall up until then and I passed the intersection since the scorpion wasnt there.

I did not receive aggro at all and it took me about and hour to do. I got a snapshot of a Collosus on the way too! If you read the directions and keep sneak/invis up, this quest is not too difficult.

FYI, I did not have a map of Rang. Pass, Beaucedine Glacier, or Fei'Yin.
