Description

> Here's an updated version of my Warp II walkthrough. It's much more detailed than its previous version, so I don't think anyone will get lost now.^^ >
> In order to get this quest, you must lead Shantotto to believe you're a total loser. >
> When you speak to her, she'll ask you a question. Off the top of my head, I can't remember what it is, but it's something about having a black mage buddy. Choose the second option. Shantotto will then ask you another question, and again, choose the option where she'll believe you're a total loser. (The second question I can't remember, but I think it's the second option too.) >
> Shantotto will bestow you with the title: Total Loser. >
> Before leaving Windurst, make sure you have some sort of warping ability, be it with a spell or with a scroll of Instant Warp. >
> Then, head out to Beaucedine Glacier. To get there, however, you need to travel through Ranguemont Pass in northeast East Ronfaure. >
> In Ranguemont Pass, you will see a pair of Elvaans standing before a glowing granite door. Speak to the one behind the podium and he'll open the door for you. Once past the door, continue forward, hugging the right wall. You will then enter an area where you must walk across some ponds. Right after it, you'll come across a fork with a Cave Scorpion at the intersection. Go to the left, but keep hugging the right wall. >
> Once in Beaucedine Glacier, follow the tunnel and head out onto the glacier. Keep following the one-way route until you pass the first tower. A little bit further, the road splits at (H-9) to the north and east. Keep going east as north leads to Xarcabard. When you reach the cliff, head northeast to (I-8) where you have to take the slope downward. Once you do so, head north and you'll see the tower at (I-7) where Torino-Samarino is at. The tower, at least when I went to it, had Living Statues in the first area. Head down the stairs and you'll see Torino-Samarino. Drop invisible and speak to him and you'll get the Key Item: Shantotto's New Spell. However, do not recast Invisible until you leave the sight of the Living Statues as they aggro to magic. >
> Head back outside to the glacier and head south to (I-9) and head down the slope once more. Head east to (J-9) then head north, past the tower and a frozen pond to (J-6) where you will need to head down another slope that leads to an open field. Here, make sure you have Invisible on as goblins and golems roam around the area. (Previously, I had said to Sneak up, but undead rarely roam here.) Head north and you'll see Fei'Yin. >
> In Fei'Yin, you'll find numerous magic pots, dolls, evil weapons and golems which all aggro to magic, so be careful when recasting your spells. For the most part, all you need is Sneak to traverse through Fei'Yin. Golems, however, do aggro to sight so be sure to cast Invisible when you see them. If you follow this guide, you should only encounter golems once and I'll let you know where. >
> Also, when I say "head north", make sure your character is running north according to the compass. By north, I'm not saying keep going forward. Just be sure to change your camera angle each time I mention a new direction. >
> Once inside Fei'Yin, keep walking down the hallway and you'll enter a small room with more than likely just bats in it. Keep heading straight and down a small flight of steps up until you get into another room, this one much bigger than the previous one you were in. Take the eastern (G-9) hallway. As you traverse through this hallway, it'll fork twice. Just keep walking straight until you come across another room. Take the northern hallway, which will curve to the west and down a flight of steps. >
> At the bottom of the steps, you should be safe if you need to rest up. If you see Underworld Bats roaming across the hallway, just walk up on the steps and rest up there. >
> Once ready, walk down the hallway until you reach a room at (H-8). Take the northwestern exit into a hallway that'll fork. Keep heading north and follow the hallway as it curves to the east, leading you to another fork; this one going north and east. Go north at the fork and stop a few steps short of the room you should now be facing. >
> In the room before you, you'll find golems. Be sure to cast Invisible or use Prism Powders now. The golems conned "easy prey" to a level 75, though they did not aggro. I'd hate to see what they do to someone not as high-levelled. >.< >
> Once you have both Sneak and Invisible up, head into the room and follow the left wall. Walk past two doorways and head into the third. Here, hug the right wall, past a room full of Dromas, and into a hallway. You've done it! Open the first cermet door on your right and you'll see a cutscene with Rukusu. Cast Warp on yourself, or use an item with an equivalent effect, to leave Fei'Yin. >
> Return to Windurst and talk to Shantotto. After a cutscene, she'll reward you with the Warp II scroll and the title: Doctor Shantotto's Flavor of the Month.

Well, I got to the door on the right, but it said it was locked. I tried the other doors, but they either had monsters in them or nothing. No matter what, the door on right was locked. Any ideas? The quest is definitely logged. And of course, I died by Talos.....bummer.

Figured it out! Remember to talk to Torino-Samarino in Beaucedine Glacier on the way or THE DOOR WILL BE LOCKED!
Total Loser
# Jan 23 2005 at 1:47 PM Rating: Decent
The much coveted title of "Total Loser" can be obtained by choosing:

Ask if you are worthy

Yes, mommy.

It may be obtained anyway with other choices but that's what I chose and it worked.

Please note that choosing these two causes you to not get the quest. Just talk to her again and choose:

Ask if you are worthy

What you talkin 'bout Shantotto?

and you'll recive the Warp II quest.

Ok, so I did this quest as a level 23 RDM/SMN (280ish MP), 39BLM/RDM is my main, with a level 50 DRG/WHM (82MP), Rale. As you may notice by looking at the levels, I didn't have invis and he did. Now if you notice the MP you might be able to see a problem. Regardless, we ended up making it easily. We followed Yorlan's instructions and got through the Glacier pretty well, only going astray once.

As a level reference: Rale could kill most of the monsters (gobs, tigers are what he did kill) in 1v1 combat and probably could have taken them 2v1 though it would have been slightly more challanging. If I had helped heal he probably would have had a good chance at 3v1, anyways.

We never cast Deoderize thoughout the entire journey, and I ran around tigers a few times as a level 23 rdm with only Sneak&Invis on. If they agro smell they would definitely have agroed me, and they didn't. Argument solved.

Ok, so we cruised on through the Glacier, only having to wait for a little while when Rale needed mp for invis, and when we ran into 2 Ice Elementals (Magic/resting agro) with Sneak&Invis running out. This was fairly near the exit to Fei'yin. So we just retreated back into the path we had come from, rested up, cast our magic, and just ran past them.
It was in Fei'yin that the instructions started to become more confusing for us. I highly recommend getting a map for this, even though I suspect I could have followed Yorlan's directions better without one. Still, maps are always good. What follows is how we went Yorlan's way to Rukusu re-written for greater clarity and accuracy.

Much credit given to Yorlan for the following:

Once inside Fei'Yin walk without taking any staircases through the first small room into a larger one. Take the East exit from the larger room and continue East, past the split, until that path curves North and dead-ends into another small room. From that room take the Western staircase (going down to the second map). This staircase is a good place to reapply your magic and heal for mp if you need to, I recommend doing so.

Once you are on the lower level take the northwest exit from the small room you exit the staircase into and continue to head north (past 2 Cermet Doors), letting your path curve around a bit to the east. When you see a path breaking off to the north (Opposite 2 Cermet Doors) take it and you should enter a very large room with Golems in it. From where you enter the room you need to take an exit almost completely on the other side (North a little and West a lot), so it will be a bit of a hike. Make sure your magic lasts because you will not want to recast in this room.

Once you have gotten through the huge room to the correct exit follow the path north curving to the west into a small room. When I passed through this room there were 3 magic pots in it. Exit to the Southwest and you should be near 4 Cermet doors on both walls (8 total).

Behind one of these doors is Rukusu and the end of your dangerous trip into Fei'yin. For me and my drg friend the door to touch was the first on the right, as Yorlan says, but reports have been that it moves. Once you have talked to Rukusu feel free to leave Fei'yin by whatever means you have available to you. As a level 23 rdm I cast Gravity on a Golem and he instantly warped me back for free with 2 hits. Rale just used his scroll of instant warp.

i just did this quest for my blm mule and i was able to find everything easily.... but.... i forgot a warp scroll, it got ugly there for a little bit as i got lost >< but i was able to right myself and finally found the way out. most of the mobs before the steps conned too weak, except for the dolls they were easy, then down the stairs EVERYTHING would have aggroed me (55drg/war) but i did remember silent oils and prism powders ^^

moral: make sure you have a warp scroll ^^

Before I went down the first long set of steps everything was TW-- to my SAM61

The Underworld Bats were EP-- and I fought my way through until first fork past the Northwestern corridor, where they linked and slowly headbutted me to death.

Going back as a WHM/NIN this time >< not risking another 2300 EXP

Great walkthrough btw, never got lost until I died

I seem to be missing something...I get to:
"Take the northwestern hallway and keep going north at the first fork and then follow the hallway as it curves to the east." and it comes to a set of stairs. stairs lead to a room with shadows in it, and two other rooms attached.
"The hallway will then split to the north and east, so take the north into another open room. From the entrance to the room, head straight west and you'll enter another hallway." I head that way, and it comes to a dead end room, two golems in it, a cermet door, but the stairs to it are broken. I backtrack to H-8, and that is indeed the NW path...where am I going wrong? I think this walkthrough needs to be a little more detailed, or I'm seriously missing something...and it doesn't help that I don't have this map ><

The guide helped me get to Fei'Yin. Once inside it got kind of hard to read and pay attention at the same time. Once I ran around lost with a 56RDM following me casting Sneak/Invis for a while, then I realized the solution to the problem.

"/sh {warp} 2 {quest} {help}"

LV75 RDM took me right to the correct Cerment Door in about 2 mins flat. I know it can't always happen like that, but thankfully for me it did. That place is a death trap.

You can't get the quest because you haven't done "Curses, Foiled AGAIN?!?". You need to talk to Hiwon-Biwon (a taru standing to the side of her house). He will puke on you ("...Erk!!!...") . If he does not puke on you, wait until the next in-game day, and he will puke on you then. After that, talk to Shantotto, who will tell you that she's going to put you (her accomplice in cursing Hiwon-Biwon) behind bars in her place, unless you give her a Revival Root, 2 Bomb Arms, and a lock of Hiwon-Biwon's Hair. Buy the Arms and Root in the AH for about 1k in total, and then talk to Hiwon-Biwon again. He will puke on you again, but apparently, you end up taking that opportunity to yank some of his hair out. Give the stuff to Shantotto. She will puke on you, er, I mean, give you a Misery Staff. Zone. Come back and talk to her again. Then you get the quest. Good for you.
/em pukes on Zaxtrose.

I don't know if anybody else posted this information, but besides Fame 4, you have to have BLM as you main job.

Oh, and when she asks you to introduce a BLM to her, choose the option "Ask if you're worthy."
She'll laugh at and belittle you, but reply with "Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Shantotto?". That'll put her in her proper place, and more importantly activate the quest.

It might be worthwhile to point out to everybody the following important fact regarding this quest...

If you are carrying "Shantoto's New Spell" (key item) you do not want to be fighting magic based creatures in Fei'Yin... (pots, dolls, golems). By doing this there is a chance (though low, but still there) that you can accidentally undo the work of the NPCs in Beaucedine.

The NPC in Fei'Yin will tell you that the scroll has been partially erased and you "should be careful" about fighting "magical creatures" due to their detrimental effects on the scroll.

I did this quest fairly easily with a lv 25 WHM (u should do this once you hit lv 40 just cuz youll kill 2 birds with one stone:you wont need to raise ur WHM for another 10 lvs, ull b able to have sneak/invis/raise/warp2 now!) im sorry i sadly have not taken the time to figure out how to do links but ill copy/paste helpful maps for this quest^^

http://www.speakeasy.org/~sticks/ffxi/treasure/Fr_Fei'Yin.html

Note that this is a treasure map and that the blue dots have nothing to do with the warp 2 quest. Also, you must go to the second floor to the group of rooms in f-6 and f-7, its one of those where you get the cutscene( the room with the cutscene will have a golem in it, but this is part of the cutscene so if your cursor goes over a room with a golem in it make sure that you check that room!)

http://65.171.233.135/~admin12/nussrat/teleport-mea.php

Note you need to walk through the pass to get the the glacier and then you need to go to the tower in i-7 first to talk to the npc before you must walk ALL the way to j-5 to the secret entrance into fei'yin.

Sorry i dont really have any really useful info and im sorry that you need to go to 2 different pages to get the maps but those are what i went by and they worked for me^^. BTW for all of you that spent 20+k on the scroll (it was 70k at the time i went to get mine on siren) it really wasnt a BIG horror story u guys make it out to be, infact the only time i died was when i didnt wanna spend an hour walking to town and i ghetto warped back.

PLZ rate me up if you liked this^^

This quest is basically mandatory for blm's, considering on Siren server this scroll costs 40k+.

I'm not a blm, so I'm doing the quest so I can put it on the AH, just as I did with teleport quests.

This quest seems pretty tough so I'd assume most people just go and buy it, which IS kinda foolish, considering it's 40k.

I'd rather spend the 6k on each a stack of oils and powders.

I'll post my experience on this quest, and try to give any helpful info I can come up with.

YEah this quest only took 3 hours. That's with mysefl being a 37 whm and having both maps. I had to backtrace so many times.

1) The 3 NPC's at in a tower in the middle path, after you talk to them head down the 2nd slop to get to fei-yen.

2) The whole F-6 thing. There's stairts at G-9...not at the extrace but by the middle room. I didn't see the faded effect on the map until I really looked at it. It sucked walking aorund teh first floor for 30 mins.

You can get map of this place by doing a quest in Sandy called "Her Majesty's Garden" given to you by Chalvatot in the garden at the Chateau in Northern Sandy, pretty simple quest, all you need is a clump of derfland humus. If you're too lazy, or too low lvl to go out and get one, they sell for about 2k on the AH (on Siren server anyway)

Afetr that you get a map of the northlands, that includes Beaucedine, and Xarcabard, not sure about Fei'Yin though, you'll just have to find out after doin the quest.

BTW, you need to be at least rank 2 to enter the chateau, so make sure you're rank 2 or higher before attempting this quest.

The quest for the map of Fei'Yin is a quest in Windurst. It's really easy, but requires high fame (higher than 4 at least). Given by Hariga-Origa, a Tarutaru in the place where they renew old books, (F-8) of Windurst Waters. It's called "A Smudge on One's Record". All you need is a Frost Turnip and some Slime Oil, then he gives you 3,000 gil and the map.

Here's the Allakhazam description of the quest: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=&fquest=112

Just as an aside, I had no problem getting the Warp 2 quest as a rdm, once I had done the pre-req quests. But, having the quest, I realized I would need a map of Fei Yin and -that- was a pain to get as I have concluded that it has 2 pre-requisite quests of it's own.

I had to go next door to the other library and do the two quests for returning the overdue library books before Hariga-Origan would give me the quest for the Fei yin map.

I was slow to level my subjob (RDM) for a very long time, but I decided to get it to 20 before I got BLM to 40 so I wouldn't have to worry about it later. Realizing I had Sneak and no Invisible, I just decided to sub Ninja and went to do this quest on RDM22/NIN11.

Sneak + Tonko is very effective and only costs you 12 MP, and you always have the Stealth job trait safeguard incase something falls off too soon. I also found the monster radar *INVALUABLE* because with it I knew it was safe to sneak/invis if there were absolutely no red dots on the compass.

I bought my first-ever scroll of instant warp for this but I probably could have gotten out fine or ghetto warped just the same. I wanted to do the Frozen Pond quest while I was there but when I saw that the Taru NPC said that after time the writing would fade on the spell, I decided to book it to Fei'Yin and forgot about the Pond.

If you're having trouble with this quest, try RDM/NIN or WHM/NIN, it makes it a lot easier.

EDIT: Oh and reading all the deodorize BS, I actually ran into several tigers and other enemies without deo on and I never got aggroed. I didn't get aggroed to magic either by following the "no red dots" rule.

(The second question I can't remember, but I think it's the second option too.)

Be careful though as the monsters aggroed me at level 45.

Here, make sure you have Sneak on as undead roam this area. Head north and you'll see Fei'Yin.

Once inside Fei'Yin, keep going down the path and you'll come across an open room. Take the eastern (G-9) hallway and head down until you reach another open, but smaller, room. Head north and enter the hallway that leads to the west and down a flight of steps.

At the bottom of the steps, keep going down the hallway until you reach a small open room at (H-8). Take the northwestern hallway and keep going north at the first fork and then follow the hallway as it curves to the east. The hallway will then split to the north and east, so take the north into another open room. From the entrance to the room, head straight west and you'll enter another hallway. Hug the right wall until you see a bunch of Cermet Doors. Open the first one on your right and you'll see a cutscene with Rukusu. Use your scroll of Instant Warp or cast Warp upon yourself and leave Fei'Yin.

Return to Windurst and talk to Shantotto. After a cutscene, she'll reward you with the Warp II scroll and the title: Doctor Shantotto's Flavor of the Month.

Hope this helps!

Agreed, especially since the walkthrough directs you to the wrong door! This caused me uneeded stress.

It is indeed the first door, at the top of the set of 8. It's left or right depending on which way you approach it from, but you can see the guy behind the door.

Also to confirm, I used only sneak to get to the door. Invis shouldn't be needed, but if you see a golem, get Invis up.

I highly suggest this Walkthrough replace the current one.
Good job ;)
Can't get quest as 53 Drg with rank 6 fame in windurst

Can someone help me out with this quest?
when I talk to Shantotto, she says " Ah, it's you again, my dear. And to tell you the truth, I'm glad you're here. Right now I am looking for someone who can do me a favor... Namely, anyone who can manage to reach the Beaucedine Glacier. Do you have a friend who is a black mage? One worthy of meeting me, the "Great Sage"? when you see that Friend, tell them to hurry. There is no need for you to accompany them, so please don't worry. Now off with you, dear, my schedule is very tight. Ohoho-whoo! I have no time to waste changing the diapers of total losers like you."

I have been to the Glacier and talked to the guys in the Tower there, when I did M5-1. This is starting to really **** me off cause the guides only say talk to Shantotto and then head to glacier but the guy in Glacier does not give me anything to take to Rukusu.

Considering this is two months later, you've probably figured it out by now, but you tell Shantotto that you are the BLM she should be talking to. She asks you two questions. Keep persisting that you're her guy, and she'll give you the quest.

Rukusu

I belive Rukusu can actually be behind any one of the 8 doors. When I did this quest he was in the last one on the right, not the third one as the description states. No big deal because they are right next to each other, but just an FYI.

Actually he is always in the first door to your right as you walk into that hall - of course if your looking at the map he is in the top left hand door in F-6 so it depends on if you looking on the map of from actually walking into the hall doing the quest. He does not move. He is a static NPC - been there a number of times.

Not only that, but you can see him through the holes in the door. When I went, there was a mob in the room with him.

Just to clear up as you read all these posts. NOTHING aggros to smell, not tigers, not anything, nothing. Things track you by smell, not aggro by it. Also, another thing about this quest....if you have another shantotto related quest going, you can't finish this one. She's still telling me about SMN AF2's guy lol.

You are correct... some mobs only persue by scent. Nothing aggros by it that I know of either.
even if you can cast sneak and invis

Even if you have someone in your party who can cast sneak and invisible, you may want to make sure that everyone in the party has a couple silent oils and prism powders, because by the time you're done talking to the NPC in the tower, the spells may wear off. If you recast them, the arcana fiends at the top of the stairs will aggro. (All Arcana, like bombs and dolls, aggro to magic, at a pretty far distance.) I'm assuming that they won't aggro if you use an item instead of casting a spell, but I honestly don't know that for sure. My friend and I got "stuck" down there, luckily we are both able to cast Warp 1, so we did so at the same time and got out. If one of us had started casting before the other, the later one would have gotten killed. The thing was on its way down the stairs as we disappeared.

It doesn't seem to me that anything aggros to odor. I have gone exploring countless places with a variety of mobs, all IT to me, and I never cast deodorize, and I never get aggro. I'd have to lean toward the argument that deodorize is only to avoid being tracked. I'm told that if you cross a river, that will also get them off your scent. I also suspect, however, that sneak and invisible are not 100% effective. The spell descriptions say they reduce the chances of being detected, not eliminate the chances. They seem to be 99.9% effective though, except for a couple special mobs I've read about that completely disregard them all the time.

Using items is not detected by arcana.
Sneak and invis are 100% effective - NM's see through them though.

Only a few HNMs can see through them. King Behemoth is one of them.
