[Important Update Details]
- Temporarily removed an NPC named Varchet in Southern San d'Oria.

Improper use of the game was found to be possible through the use of this NPC. Removal of the NPC is a temporary measure against this issue. Due to this action, players will be unable to advance in the quest "Exit the Gambler."

* After counter measures are enacted, we plan on putting the NPC Varchet back into the game.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

I talked to Aurege before I did the pickpocket quest, now that I've done the pick pocket quest, when I try to talk to him he says gambling is the ruin of many, I tell you. Whats up with this?

Pickerpocker Quest Prevents "Gambler Quest" from starting.
# Apr 12 2004 at 4:09 PM Rating: Decent
That's "The Pickpocket" quest. I think you need to finish the Pickpocket quest before you can get the "Exit The Gambler" quest if you had already started "The Pickpocket" quest previously. I've done the same thing. I have the Pickpocket quest, but can't get the "Exit the Gambler" quest yet. Aurege & Guilberdier comments will concern the pickpocket if you have this quest started and won't mention anything about a Gambler.

The exact title gained from this quest in the NA/English version is "Daybreak Gambler".
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 21 2003 at 8:49 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I gambled with the guy, he said he would go back to guild after i won, but then i went to get my reward and aurege said, "No i havn't seen a pickpocket around here" which had to do with a different quest then mine. What do I do?

When you have two active quests going like that always try zoning and asking again.

Otherwise you have to finish the quest that NPC is talking about first.

As specific as i can be...

Aurege is located in F3 of Northern San d'Oria (next to the water and stacked wood outside the carpentrs guild downstairs)

talk to him and he has a lil conversation with the guy next to him, talk to him again and he says "Gambling is the ruin of many, I tell you..."

from there head straight to southern San d'Oria and go to L6 right next to the fountain and talk to Varchet. He mentions the others talking about him and challenges you to win to make him go visit them, so bet 5 gil til you do. Then return to Aurege.

Aurege thanx and rewards you...

this quest never showed up in my quest log, so just do it and you'll see that it works

Sorry off topic...
You might want to try the Tiger Stole for your [neck] solo equipment since the spike necklace gives you MND-6. Tiger Stole is DEF:2 ATK:5 You get the increase atk without loosing the MND. Just a suggestion. I'm sure you know what you're doing since you are 57.

I was able to get the item without actually being given the quest. When I talked with Aurege he just said 'Gambling is the ruin of many', but Varchet still gambled with me and I won first try. I went back to Aurege and he said he didn't remember sending me to get Varchet, but gave me the map as reward anyway.

Maybe you have to talk with Varchet or someone else first?
right title

The right title of the quest is "Exit the Gambler"
Not Broken
# Nov 05 2003 at 1:43 AM Rating: Excellent
Hey guys, it's not broken. The NPC that starts it just doesn't elaborate much. Just says something about gambling being some great downfall and trails off. You just have to go gamble with this Varchet guy till you win (which took a while for me...)

Then go back and talk to the NPC giver and he'll reward you with a map.

I think they figured that if you talked to every NPC you'd know there were only a couple of gamblers...so when he said he had gambling problems, you'd go talk to one of them thinking maybe they caused it. Turns out Varchet realizes who you are right away after you talk to the start NPC.

Hope this helps

You get the quest ... it never shows up in your Quest Log... just talk to the Gambler by the fountain after speaking with Aurege and when you win go back to the Carpenter's Guild.. and talk to the originator of the quest... I did it at level 3 and got the Map of Ranperre's Tomb..

Some clarification on this quest.

Aurege is in the NW part of North San d'Oria, on the bottom level. (There is an elevated walkway around the top)

To gamble with Varchet, trade him 5 Gil, you each roll two dice, the one with the highest total wins, and gets 10gil, the loser loses his 5gil, and on a tie you both keep your gil.

The odds seem to be that you will tie most of the time, and winning and losing seem to be less likely, but equal.
Where is the NPC
