The Sacred Katana - SAM AF1  

Well since I don't see anyone as low as me who defeated this guy I quess I'll share my experience. Went as as a 55bst/dnc, used keeneared Steffi and two biscuits to heal him also kept Enmmity on him at all times.. Done!! a pieace of cake. So good luck to ya.

Just done this quest, took approx 45 misn to complete (thank god for OP warps!).

Had to farm the fish bait again (got some a week ago but dropped it not realising I needed it for this quest) but got on fifth robber so not long to get that.

NM was no problem, solo'd it as 75 PLD/WAR - only had to use cure 3 once, no food used.

Now just got to get to 42 to use the weapon.

Solo'd this easy on my 75 WHM/BLM, threw out a few debuffs and kept blink and stoneskin up and only took about 50 dmg from screwdriver the entire fight. has a lot of HP, needed 4ish hexas to finish him off, especially after he did the defense boost move. Glad I have the outpost warps though, made this take 20 mins ^^/

Got the drop from Goblin Robbers on the way from the outpost to the pop spot, in 2nd kill. Easy!

40Sam/20thf wanting to do the quest now so when i hit 42 i can use it, there are better GKs its just i dont have a lot of money. im on pandy if anyone wants to help :)

Just completed this quest. Me as a RDM 60 and friend as 72 MNK

*NOTE: If you tossed your Mumeito (1st sword given when you get SAM Job) you can get it again for 30k (as stated before)but he'll only give it to you if you are a SAM, i went as my RDM and he just talks

You dont have to be a SAM to get the ??? to pop, just need the Stack of Fish Bait from Goblin Robbers found on your way in. seems to drop easy got it on 1st try and again on way out. Once you get Stack of Fish Bait head to E-8

You may want to clear the area for mobs and if at night clear the wolfs hanging about.

Once you get Fish Scale Crystals head back to Norg and get your Sword

i did this with a 75 thf i was a 42 sam. got the bait drop first gob kill, cleared out the area around the ???, and pwned the pug in about 1 minute.

I went to do this today with my friend who is a 61 THF/NIN. I am a level 40 SAM/WAR. We got the trigger on the first goblin we killed, but had to end up killing a few more b/c of links. I was a little skeptical based on what I'd read so far, but we went ahead and tried it anyways. Right at the start I used Tachi: Enpi and my friend followed it by Dancing Edge. The first time we did this, it put up 1400ish damage total. We continued doing the same SC throughout the fight, which took 2-3 minutes. My friend forgot to bring Bloody Bolts, but his health barely fell below half. This fight was easier than I thought it was gonna be.

I had a 75 dragoon from my LS do this for me. I wasn't feeling up to try to find a party to get it done.

I got the Bait drop on the first Robber kill. so it went kind of fast.

had a 70 sam and 75 rdm help me with this.

It was dead in 1 minute.

yeah i need to find out how to get the sword again for lvl 1 sam :( i threw it away! Im so stupid. Anyways is there a way to get it again>? Plus I cant find how to raise ur norg fame at all anyone have any ideas?

Just incase anyone gets confused, you re-buy the Mumeito from Ranemaud Not from Jau. Same rules apply though, you must get the quest from him first, then talk to him again(this can be after or before you get the scales.

I soloed this as a 75 DRG.

He managed to take about 500 of my HP, 200 of that being from a Screwdriver.

It is pretty tough compared to other AF1 NMs I have fought. A lot harder than it should be.

only problem i had was finding the goblin robber -_-. they are right by the outpost tho, just a little ways from the ???. solod the NM with carby as lvl 74 SMN, stood there bored waiting for him to kill it and then got the item. took me mabybe 30 mins to complete

I found this quest to be very easy, but I owe that to the help I received for it. I couldn't get any help from my LS and nobody seemed interested in jeuno, so I decided to head out to the Sanctuary of Zi'tah (sp?) anyway to try my luck. I soon realized that there was no way I was going to do this solo(SAM lvl 42), and I would have realized this if I had read this thread beforehand and if I had more experience with AF (this being my first ever time). Well once I realized I needed help, I asked a few of the high lvls in the area and got ignored for the most part. Finally a lvl 65 DRG volunteered to help me to my pleasure and a 74 PLD who did not have any armour because I believe he was using axes to chop down wood (forgot what that was called). Well we then proceeded to kill gobs and got the fishbait on the first drop and the quest was moving along nicely. My two companions then obliterated everything in our path around the ??? and then rested up for our battle. It took very little time for them, and the little assistance that I provided, to finish off Isonade.

Although this quest was very easy for me, I know it would be very difficult, if not impossible, without the proper help. Good luck everybody and I hope you're as fortunate as I was in receiving help! ^^

ok my setup was as follows: me (40 sam) and my 63 rdm friend. piece of cake. we got there, killed the one wolf type that was hanging around and the 2 coeurls no prob, took maybe 4 minutes for those guys. then she buffed up again and i traded my fish bait. me and the rdm started pounding on it, once it was about 4/5 of the way down and she had enuf hate i used meikyo shisui >=) and executed my perfect 5-ws skillchain: start with 100% tp, (which i had built up from the coeurls, i think i started the fight with 300% actually), tachi: enpi, meikyo shisui, tachi: kagero, meditate, tachi: enpi, tachi: kagero, tachi: goten. dont know exact dmg (i shoulda looked >.<) but it took it down to just a sliver of health and she finished it off in 3 more hits. fight all together took about, oh say about 4 minutes and we throughly wasted his ass >=) came out with very little bumps or scratches, no one in the yellow, barely touched lol.

really easy~ did it with a 64thf, 52rng, and a 36whm, fight took about 45 seconds^^

My title says it. My 63 war/nin friend and I (42 sam/war) both died to this thing. Apparently screwdriver isn't supposed to go through utsusemi but somehow it did and killed the warrior and i was no match for it and got killed in a matter of seconds. Gonna try again tomorrow with more people.

Yes you can get them key item without having to be SAM. I did it with my 60 PLD and got key item. As long as you have quest flag, you can use whateva job you choose, but he careflu which job you choose, outside of PLD this NM still will hit u hard and often..//

This guy went down pretty easily to me as a BST62/WHM31 with assistance from the SAM40 who needed it. I killed three Robbers to get the bait while he stayed on the chocobo, then he got off the bird, traded the bait to the ???, and we killed the NM. My FunguarFamiliar started at 66% HP and 129% TP, ended with 30% HP.

We fought it right at the ???, which I wouldn't recommend; fortunately we didn't get any wandering aggro until right after the NM died.

I di this quest a bit ago but trust me is hard a lvl 50 Pld a 40 Mnk and me a 40 Sam got owned not by pugil but from Hounds and tigers after killing the NM. Try a lvl 60 pld and u will be ok.

ok got the quest but what is the <pos> of the lake where i set the fish bait? i died along with my help because our random wandering landed us in front of a few skesl using AM and master coeurls who thought i looked delicious.

I'm a lvl 50 sam/war,... and yeah.... i don't have this yet... I just totally skipped this for other things... :( People i have asked for help said they can't, and when i did get help, that pld just took my money and never actually helped.... :( I'm in Cerberus server and willing to help any other sams if it means that i will get mine also :). Send a tell to Goldensempai, or Gorgeousjackie. Heh... i may never get this....
