Description

Talk to Devean behind Sheperd's Muster in Selbina.

He asks if you want to find some loot he hid in Davoi. If you say yes he will ask you to bring him back a pair of power sandals hidden inside an urn in Davoi, and will ask if you want to bet on how quick you will make it back to him. You then need to bet either 100, 150, 500, or 1000 gil and if you will make it back in 24, 36, 48, 60, or 72 hours. The quicker you come back to him with the sandals, the more money you will make. Example is if you choose that you will be back in 24 hours you will get back 3 times your bet for your reward, and if you choose that you will be back in 72 hours you will get 1.2 times your bet for a reward.

You must be back to him before the time you said to get the money, if you are not back in time you lose the money from your bet.

Barely 4 hrs
# May 11 2009 at 2:49 PM Rating: Decent
I started the bet at 18:20 and used my 48THF/24BLM to warp back to my hometown, then I OP'd to Jugner. I used flee as soon as I got there, then I put sprinter's shoes on and entered Davoi. I check at the first location, then ran over to the area with WAR AF1 (don't remember the pos>.<), and there it was. Then I warped back to Windy so I could OP to Valkurm, and was back at the guy just before 22:00. Kept my sandals tho, just wanted to see how long it took to get it done.
Might take longer tho of course if you don't find the "Jar" right away. The orcs at the WAR AF1 area checked EP to me, no aggro.

Can't Flag
# Apr 17 2008 at 3:40 PM Rating: Decent
I cannot flag this quest, and I have no idea why. I meet the requirements according to the wiki, rank 3, lvl 18. Supposedly there is no fame requirement, I believe my Sandy fame is 3 which corresponds to Selbina fame, so I don't know what the problem is...

This quest is currently being exploited like mad by pos hackers, so do not be surprised if you can't get the sandals.

Basically in addition to everything in the guide here, you will have to clear Davoi of one or more position/invisibility (?) hackers before you can manage to get it.

Just do /sea for an anon and invis user who deathwarps to selbina then moves through each zone impossibly fast, then repeats it over and over.

After a GM call or two, usually something will be done about this person. At that time there will be a window of opportunity for you to get your sandals. Use it before they make a new account and enjoy.

Did this today, not for the sandals but rather to get the quest completed. I'll do a re-run of it when I want them, but for now I'm just wanting the quest done and dusted.

Got the quest, selected 100 gil and accidentally hit the 24 hour bet. Meh, whatever, I'll get it done.

Did some other things but eventually took myself to Davoi to get the quest done. The best guide for this quest is ffxiclopedia's one found here:

http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Test_My_Mettle

Gives the locations of the Jars, which helped greatly. Checked all of the easy locations first, before going through Monastic to get to the fortress part. Typically the Jar was at the stronghold, but I kept invis up (didn't bother with sneak), and managed to uninvis, click on the Jar, get the sandals, and then invis again, without any aggro whatsoever. Warped back to Jeuno.

Now here's the problem. I went back to Selbina later that day (well under 24 RL hours), and the idiot said that I was late! Very bizarre, it must've been 7 or 8 hours. So, I can only assume that either 24 hours refers to Vana'diel time, or that 24 hours means before the next Japanese midnight time. Bah.

Anyhow, a few tips for y'all, since the guide above is extremely poor:

- The Jar appears as a Jar, run around hitting Tab or whatever, and it'll come up as Jar, not Urn, ???, Storage Hole, !, or anything else.

- Use the ffxiclopedia guide for the locations of the Jar, and mark 'em on your map beforehand (makes things easier when running around Davoi).

- I did this as a 58 RDM, and just used Invisible throughout. Since you never have to let invis down, there was never the chance that I'd get aggro except at the point when I had to click on the Jar.

- If the Jar is at the stronghold, you'll just have to be patient and wait for the Orcs to turn their backs to you before clicking on the Jar.

- If you intend on completing the quest, be warned that 24 hours doesn't appear to be 24 RL hours at all. Just get the quest and go and do it straight away, then return for your reward.

Hope that all helped ^^
Fun fun fun XD

Well, firstly i'll say this...Orc's just don't give up XD

Went in as my 41War/20Mnk without oils or powders, which was pretty stupid, but this sort of thing tends to be done repeatedly by me.
Anyway, searched all around the level 20ish orc areas, but couldn't find the Jar anywhere, so off i go to the Hide Flap (Warrior AF weapon) area, try getting as close as possible without aggroing the easy prey and decent challenge orcs here, but still no sign of the jar.

So, kamikaze Bairdos came to town XD

Ran right throught about 10 orcs, all who aggroed, still no jar.
Running for my life, i see an area on the map where i think i'd be able to dive into the river, so head for it, slowly losing more hp, and getting even more orcs chasing me.

I get to the area where the dive is, and what do i see, the lovely green lettered word appear "Jar" XD
I grabbed the Power Sandals instantly, then tried to make my dive...only to find it wasn't possible, and i had in fact led myself into a dead end...well, there went my level 41, but at least i got the kick *** sandals XD
Easy... eventually

Did this as 20Thf/Nin with a friend who came as 42Whm/Rdm for Tele... went to the very top and died using the elevator...
Went back later that night as 63Sam/18Nin, used Tonko through Cavern and at top, no agro, but could not find Jar... had searched lower lvls first btw... used Warp stick, Orcs took shadows off and hit me 3 times before I warped...
Back again today, found Jar at K-9, first spot I checked, super easy... I would recommend searching lower lvls everyday until you find it, not worth the hassle of going to Stronghold imho
Steelbiter area
# Oct 16 2006 at 3:47 AM Rating: Decent
I found my Power Sandals in the "Jar" where Steelbiter Gudrud spawns (J-9/J-10). I followed Rosenballs' walkthrough to the hut, but never seen the "Jar", and after reading where some people found it around F-7, decided to go try there. Targeted the "Jar" on the way back through and VOILA.

Does anyone know what the requirements are to flag this quest?

I know for certain that a level 15 with no subjob cannot flag it yet, just wondering when I can get the quest.
Yeah!

I gotta thank Rosenballs for his walkthrough. It was spot on. I bought 12 prizm powders, two sneaks, switched to a level 1 job and took off for Davoi. Followed Rosenballs instructions to the letter and got the boots right outside the oak doors. I then proceded to go thru the oak doors and unleashed my fury on Dirtyhanded Gochakzuk (who nuked me for 1057)

In total the quest took me maybe an hour, cost 17,000 gil (20k for powder + 6k for sneak - 9k for the three unused powders) and 0 xp since I was level 1.
lol

I did this quest 3 years ago. Poor guy is still waiting for me to return. Think I lost the reward. BooHoo.

Was kinda hard for my 35RDM. Sneak and invis thru the whole thing. Died 3 times trying. The last time I just got the sandles and then got hit 1 time and died. But hey I got the sandles^^

Assuming you know exactly where to look for the pot, is it possible to run (not using Chocobos or speed enhancers or teleports) from Selbina to Davoi and back in 24 game hours?

Repeatable
# Jun 24 2005 at 10:47 AM Rating: Decent
This quest is repeatable. I did it as a 56 whm.

1) I bet 1000 gil in 24 hours.
2) Teleport-holla and choco to Davoi.
3) Searched the area to the west then the south and then to the east.
4) Found "Jar" at (K-9) and obtained power sandals.
5) Teleport-holla and choco back to Selbina.
6) Made it back in 14 hours and traded the sandals for 3000 gil reward.

I noticed he keeps the sandals so don't trade them if you want to keep them. I restarted the quest and ran back to Davoi and found the "Jar" again. This was still within the 24 hours of my first bet. The second time I found it at (J-9). This quest isn't a good way to make gil since it cost me about 750 for each choco rental.

OK, if your doing this quest your probably only here because of the boots, i can't think of many people wanting to risk life and limb on a bet. Unless it's madness that drives you??

This is how i did it.

NOTE: I did this as a level 51 and so i didn't get aggro from pugils or lower lvl Orks. This saved me a bit of money in the long run and resulted in me only using 4 prism powders for the journey there.

I entered Davoi and proceed to H-11, which is the entrance to Monastic cavern, just south off the map. The area surronding the zone i started reading EP and 1 DC at lvl 51 so i used a prism powder.

After zoning into the cavern i used another powder immediatly and moved east. I travelled through a large room of orks, a army if you will almost all of which were IT. So theres no way you can get the boots without powder or invs. After heading as far east as i could i took the parth leading north then took my immediate exit east. This looks like a dead end but its actually a zone back to davoi.

After entering i once again used another prism powder and quickly TAB'ed around the area. From here i saw "Jar" highlighted on the top of the hill, next to the hut. I followed the path right and took the elevator which luckily was unguarded. After hitting it to go up i immediatly used another prism powder and I'm glad i did because ALOT of Orks are waiting for you at Top.

I worked my way west from here around the hut and there on the corner at (H-8) i found Jar. Invs off, select and WHAM...Power Sandels. I died to get back, but i know that i could have made it safelly back had i wanted to as even after selecting Jar i hadn't been spotted.

P.S These Boots are obviously great for PLD, but i can't think of many other examples where they are supper useful. Also from what i have read on these forums ( because it was these i used as a guide for my expedition) the Jar does move from place to place. But in this instance i would always recommend looking around the hut area as it's littered with Jars and I'm betting any one of them is a possible container.

Also as a previous poster mentioned, your looking for "JAR" not anything else. Don't bother with ??? or anything like that. It's JAR!. Got it? JAR. One more time? JAR :D

Good luck!
