Summary

All fishermen dream of hooking the big one. Catch him and obtain the treasure in his belly.

Walkthrough

Note: You must be level 50 and have completed the quest Sharpening the Sword - PLD AF1 before you can get this quest.

After getting the quest from Ailbeche, go talk to Ailbeche's father, Exoroche. He is in weapons shop in South San d'Oria. Then go back to Ailbeche and talk to him again. He wants you to get a giant shell bug from Crawler's Nest.

The NM crawler Dreadbug can be found around (H-9) by talking to ???. After you kill Dreadbug you'll obtain 2-3 giant shell bugs. You should keep them all or at least 2 since you might lose the catch when you try to fish.

(Note: You can skip the above part if you have enough gil and if the item is available at the Auction House.)

After you get item, you must go back to Ailbeche and trade him the bait. If you don't and you don't have bait anymore after the fish fight, you have to get the bait again in order to get the quest going. So make sure you trade the bait with Ailbeche after you get it.

After that he'll tell you you can catch a big one in Castle Oztroja. Find the pond where there are Oozes roaming around at (H-9). You should clear the area because they will aggro when you're fighting. They are good for building up TP.

Fishing skill level doesn't matter. Any rod that is designed for big fishes should be okay. Equip the Giant Shell Bug, along with rod, and fish in the pond until you pull up Odontotyrannus. A full PT of level 55 should suffice.

After the fight, the fish will drop Odontotyrannus. Take the item and go back to Ailbeche and trade with him. He'll then tell you to go to Selbina to cut open its belly and obtain the treasure. In Selbina trade the item with Zaldon at the Fishing Guild. He'll give you key item A Knight's Boots. Now go back to North San d'Oria, enter Chateau d'Oraguille and go to Prince Trion's room. He'll then reward you with the Gallant Leggings.

can anyone confirm that the PLD does NOT have to be the one fishing? Just curious, ive read around and no one mentions this, except for the above poster. Thanks.

Yes. As long as you have the quest, you can fish it up with any job.

so you need at least 2 baits? 1 to give to the kid and another to actually fish with?

You will get the bait back from the boy. Two is recommended in case you lose your catch.

Last night me and 7 other LS members were here doing the Oztroja part of rank 5. If you didn't know, this pond and the Magicite are right next to each other. So our LS leader, working on this quest, says he'll come help us if we help him, heh. So our party is like, 3 50s, 42, 40, the rest 35 and below. Long story short, we were able to beat the fish with a minimum of difficulty... a couple 2hrs got burned, one close call...

My point is, if a large group from your LS is going to work on rank 5, you can go help them through the hardest part of that (some of the last Yagudo are nasty ^^;;) and get help in return on your fishy.

I did the quest yesterday. With a 0 fishing skill, I managed to catch it on the second try. First try nothing bit the line. I borrowed a friend of mine's Mithran rod, which is made to catch large fish. Maybe that helped as well?

im the same person below.

EDIT: i asked many people about if fishing skill matters.. they said no... so i gave it another try.. and bought 2 Gaint Shell bug just incase

and with 0 fishing skill... took me about 7-8 tries to get that NM.......

i wonder why i lost the catch 1st time i tried.. hmm maybe cuz it was kinda late when i pressed enter..

I also had problems when i went with 0 fishing skill. i fished for approx 30 times and failed to catch anything everytime. later we learned that the paladin didn't have to be the one to fish and i gave my friend that was there with me the giant shell bug and he caught it on his second try. He had a fishing skill of 6.

The walkthrough I submitted didn't get posted, but here is the information that is lacking in the above post.

Here's some experience and clarification:
1. I did mine at level 52 with a party of 5 - whm, drk, drg, rdm, pld. DRG was the only level 53, the rest of us were 52.

2. You will only obtain 1 giant shell bug from the Dread bug you killed in Crawler's Nest.

3. Go back to Sandoria and trade the giant shell bug with Ailbeche. If he did not tell you to go fish, you must go to the armor shop in South Sandoria and speak with his father. Once that's done, go back and trade the giant shell bug to the kid again. He'll then tell you to go to Castle Oztroja to catch the big fish.

4. Fishing skill doesn't matter, I had fishing 5 and I caught the fish on the 5th catch. The first 4 times were - you did not catch anything. I've spoke with a different PLD on Ifrit, the info is the same, it took him 5 catches to get the NM fish.

5. Clear the area around the pond so birds won't agro while you fight the NM. All the birds were easy prey to level 52. This is also a good way to save up TP.

The rest of the walkthrough is correct from the above information, except you have to go see the father again after you received the key item from Zeldan. The father will tell you that he'll report it to the prince. Then you go see Prince Trion and receive the Gallant leggings.
