Summary

Honoi-Gomoi, a merchant who lives in Windurst Waters, has ordered the Star Onion Brigade to return the Mana Orb to him. Help the gang out of this fix before they're framed as a bunch of thieves!

Walkthrough

After you've completed the Onion Rings quest, leave the zone and return to Kohlo-Lakolo and another cutscene will start.

Head over and talk to Honoi-Gomoi upstairs at (E-7) of Windurst Waters. He'll rant about the orb and Nanaa Mihgo. After talking to Nanaa Mihgo, she'll mention a Star Spinel. If you have Rock Racketeer active, you'll need to finish that quest before she will give you the right speech to continue.

You must retrieve a Star Spinel, dropped from Spelunking Sabotender in the Quicksand Caves. In order to reach the right area, you must enter through (G-5) or (D-12) of Western Altepa Desert and pass through the weight sensors. You must weigh correctly by having either one Galka, two Hume/Mithra/Elvaan, or three Tarutaru get on the shining circle to open the door.

Talk to Kohlo-Lakolo then back to Honoi-Gomoi to complete the quest.

Nanaa Mihgo qst dialogue

I have hero fame in Windy. I have the qst active in my log. But never once did Nanaa Mihgo mention a star spindel, or spinel, or anything star related. I did have to do the rock rackateer qst as a result of talking to her. Now all she talks about is(paraphrasing here) "Hanoi-Gamoi wants a mana orb. It serves him right, and that I should just give him one." I am just assuming that I can get the item from the cactuar mob(spelunking saboteurs) and all will go well, but I did quite a bit of backtracking and fame checking to make sure I hadnt messed something up. It appears that having that rock qst interrupted and cancelled out the dialogue on this qst about the star spinel. If anyone can confirm or contradict this, you'll save someone a lot of headache and time when they do this qst... unfortunately not me.

Alla leaves out like half the quest. talking to Naana is optional. Once you get the star spindle just go back and trade it to Honoi-Gomoi. He'll give you the star necklace. But the quest isn't complete. You still have to talk to the SOB's and then to Honoi again. Hope this helps anybody having trouble

I'm having the same problem. I went and got my spinel before doing this quest, and came back to windy, finished the prereq quest involving the old ring, and then got the crying over onions quest. Headed over to that rich taru's house and it won't open. Talk to Nana Mihgo and she's just talking about finishing the Rock Rockateer quest. I'm about to pass out and fall asleep but I suppose tomorrow I'll see if finishing the rock rockateer enables me to finish this last onion quest.

***
Edit: Ugh, well I don't know if I was just retarded before or was having a real-actual problem. I did indeed have the Rock Rockateer quest up at the time i went to visit Honoi-Gomoi, and it wouldn't let me enter the front door. Ok, so I hear he's upstairs, so I take a look around back and it looks like there are stairs, so I go up, and I couldnt target either of the doors int he back of the house. I figured I could only enter through the front, and after the rock rockateer quest had been finished. I finished rock rockateer (ugh...) and went back to honoi-gomoi and still couldn't enter the front. I was infuriated, but I checked around back and it seemed that now I could target and open the door up top. I don't know if finishing rock rockateer and thus continuing the dialogue in this quest was able to let me open that door up top in the back...but perhaps I was just retarded in the first place. Well, got my necklace now ****** finally ^^;

The guide is not correct on the Quicksand entrance in West Altep Desert that you need to find the Sabotenders. The correct entrance is located at D-12 and is reached by going off the map through a small tunnel, then down into the ruins and up some cracked steps at the end. Once inside go down the stairs, and when you see lizards, run straight ahead (no turns) and go through the first pressure plate door that you see (at I-9). When you are through, turn left, then around the corner to the right and go through the next pressure plated door that you see (H-7). Once you are through there, run straight ahead again and fall down the big crack in the floor (F-7). Thats it, its a very short run.

There are 4-5 sabotender spawns and 3-4 Girtabs down there. Sabotenders have a 16 minute respawn time, and unless you are 73+ you will still ger aggro from some of the EP- Girtabs, so you'll might want to clear those out in between Sabotender spawns. If you are a lower level party, send someone into the tunnels first to locate the other 2 zones out that you can camp by if you want a quick escape (located at D-4 and H-4). If you are 70+ and have a few bodies to spread the needles around, you have nothing to worry about. For the record, I got 2 drops in 14 kills with TH2 (PTY was 72WHM, 62THF, 70DRG and we pwned them), so the drop rate, in my experience, is not too bad.
Best place to get Star Spinel

The best place for Cactuars is when you enter Quicksand caves @ D-12 of Western Altepa Desert. You are going to need either 1 Galka, 2 Humes/Mithras/elvaans, or 3 tarus, to open the sensor door @ I-9. There is another door, when you take a left turn @H-7. Just walk straight and fall down the hole. There are 2 scorps in the middle of the way, before that are 2 cactuars, but far enough to not link them.
There is another one at the left path and 3 when you go right. But all far enough to not link them/aggro them. I duoed that with a 68BST we took our npcs just to make 1000needles as easy as possible. amazingly we got 2 Star Spinels after another at the second round of pops. I already spent several hours there with others without any drop. So, yes its all about luck, the bst and me were not /thf so no TH at all. It's very strange.

Entered Quicksand Caves through D-12 went left through first door then left again through the next.(Taru and Mithra are heavy enough for weights). Dropped down the hole and there was a sabotender there. My sister went as 75whm/nin and I went as 75whm/blm. Killed a total of 8 sabotenders that were roaming up and down the hallways. 1000 needles wasn't too bad. Cut through stoneskin and blink but only took off 500 from her (mithra). A quick Curaga III or II solved our worries. We flashed back and forth to get hate so we could keep our buffs up.

Finally got the drop and got the heck outta there. lol

Ok this quest sux. Went to the D-12 entrance with a friend...me BLM70/WHM35 and her a RDM60/WHM30. Dropped down through the pit and proceeded to use the sleep/nuke method figuring it would be the safest. Basically, she would make sure that gravity was on it at all times just in case sleep didn't stick for some reason.
Method: Start casting Thunder III (with the thunder staff was doing about 593 damage on a constant basis). As that is started, RDM casts Bind. After Bind readies Sleep II. Thunder hits, sleep then lands, all is good.
This method allows you to do the one where you drop down, the one where the girtabs are, and one right past the girtabs (sleep it, resneak, run to camp passed the scorps.) By this time the first one where you drop down will have respawned.
All in all we did 10 Sabotenders before we got totally board with it. Only got hit 3 times total. What did we get for it? 1 beastman's seal, 1 kindred's seal, 1 bag of cactus stems, 3 cactus arms, and about 300 xp. I say gratz to those who got quicker drops, because ours didn't happen. Maybe I will go /thf next time. TH1 has got to be better than nothing.

I'm stuck on one of the ****** quests, but I can't figure out which one!

When I talk to Kohlo, he says:

"It seems as if the Cat Burglar has been coming and going in and out of the ghosty house! We should be investigating what she's up to in there, but that haunted house has a magic lock placed on its doors! I hear if we had the minister's ring we could unlock the place, but we can't just run up to Doctor Koru-Moru and borrow it from him, can we...?"

I've tried going into the house (it's locked) and talking to the Doctor (he complains about me waking him up), but I can't seem to get anywhere. I know this is one of the ****** quests, but where did I goof? What'd I miss?

Thanks

The Minister's Ring must be retrieved from Castle Oztroja. You need to drop down the hole at I-8 after using the handle; there will be a circle on the ground, and a ??? there. Click on this, and it will give you the ring.

And actually I got it like a year and a half ago the first time I went to Castle Oztroja to do my rank 5 xD
Conclusion : don't forget to click on all and any ??? you come to see on your way ;p

Me <Cutetarutaru> and my friend <Noran> and 4 other members of our LS went out to do this. we were the only 2 who needed the item. We went to the D-12 entrance where 5 pop at a time, it was much easier because we explored both. We got the first drop on the 5th monster and the 2nd drop on the 7th monster. it took us about 10 minutes and was too weak. ^^ i hope you have my luck.

Did this yesterday with 8 members (all needed the drop). The D-12 entrance is definitely the way to go. A bit dangerous to get to the tunnels, but it has 5 quick spawns compared to the 3 very slow spawns in G-5. Even with the quick spawns, it took us around 6 hours to get all of the drops so it was about 45 minutes per drop. The only other mobs in the tunnels are 2 scorpions. I'm level 70 and everything checked Easy with a few Decents. Our party ranged from 61-75 with the majority of us being 69-72.

The dropped item is called a Star Spinel.

There is also a camp entering Quicksand from D12. Sabotender pops more frequently and there are more of them, about 5 at a time.

Ceile, if your fame is that high, just go and get the Star Spindel. I could not get them to mention Honoi either till I cam back with the Spindel in my inventory.

To get the Spindel we entered QC from the G5 entrance in Western Altep. There were 3 Spelunking Sabotender pops passed the weight sensor and it took us 3 spawns to get three Star Spinels, we got 1 on the 1st kill and all three in 1 hour. Set up was lvl 73 BST, 58 BST, and 57 BST. The 73 charmed the local spiders while me and the 57 popped crab jugs as needed.

I've finished Onion Rings and my fame is at the "Why if it isn't <name>!" stage (lvl 4, I think); but I can't get the Star Onion Birgade to mention Honoi-Gomoi or orbs, and Honoi-Gomoi won't mention Mihgo or orbs... Is it possible I screwed something up in how I did "Onion Rings" and it's preventing me from doing this one?!

Hi I went straight Honoi-Gonoi and gave him the item and got my necklace. I didn't go back to the onion brigade.

I have a nice title and I guess I didn't want it changed and have to go to the hassle of getting it back.

The drop took about 2 hrs.

I could not do this quest until my fame reached the level "Hello there, NAME! There aren't many windurstians who don't know that name." etc. In other words lvl 6 fame. I had tried to do this quest at lvl 5 and it didn't work so I did a repeatable quest to get to lvl 6 and that did it.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents on this, as I got the rare/ex item to trade for the pendant tonight.

Entered @ G-5 area, through first door with weight sensor then through one more. There was a sabotender and a spider in this hallway.

Everytime we would attempt to fight the sabotender the spider would agro, or vice versa. Luckily got a much lower lvl rdm <50> to come in aid in simply sleeping the spider LoL

One Dead Sabotender dead, and one Star Pendant earned.

My pt wasnt large, just me 64WHM/32BLM 66PLD/33WAR 63RNG/31NIN and my 50RDM that came along and simply slept the spider.

The area with the 5 Spelunking Sabotenders is on the way to the Chamber of Oracles (featured in ZM6).

To get there, take the Quicksands entrance in D-12 of W Altepa (marked 8 on the W Altepa map below), which brings you to entrance 8 in J-11 of one of the Quicksands maps. Walk around to J-9 and use the weight sensor; have 1 galka, 2 hume/elvaan/mithra, or 3 taru stand on it to open the door. Continue west to another weight sensor in H-7, then through a normal door, and drop down into the gap in the floor in F-7.

The only things in these tunnels are 5 Spelunking Sabotenders (62-68) and 2 Girtabs (62-65). The Girtabs are very useful for killing the Sabotenders if you have a BST. The tunnels lead to the Chamber of Oracles and out to W Altepa #9.

Unfortunately, you can't get down into the ruins with points #9 and #14 from the surface, though you can get out that way if you don't have Warp II or Escape in your party.

Spinel is a type of gemstone, often substituted for Ruby.

The G-5 Entrance was sure an adventure. >.> I went there last night with myself (70RDM seeking the item for my 57 bard), 65RDM, 71PLD, and 57WHM. This part of Quicksands has sort of a star/swastika type shape, with a weight sensor for each room/tunnel area, and a big central area. So, the first weight sensor on the immediate right was the only one with the sapotendars. There is one in the tunnel before the room with NM Sabotendar Bailarina (no true sight, thank god), and one in the tunnel after the NM's little room. So we camped those 2, and got 2 of the item in about 5 or 6 kills. We also decided to explore a little bit here, not a good idea. The southernmost weight sensor room has Proconsul XII, who has true sight, and mobs that con DC to lvl 70. ^^ Yep...there was death.

Star Spinel is a rare/exclusive drop that can be found in Quicksand Caves off of the (D-12) exit from Western Altepa Desert. There are about 5 that spawn fairly close to each other. Recommened party of at least 5 members because of the 1000 needles attack. Otherwise, party of level 60+ is ok for the fights. Took 8 kills for one to drop~

The more people you have (in range, so bring your mages up close too), the less damage they'll do per person with 1000 Needles, and the easier it is to heal.

This damage is also distributed among pets, so it's dangerous for DRGs to have their wyvern out (it can easily be killed). But it's a very good idea for people to sub SMN if possible so an army of Carbuncles can be damage sinks, and just be resummoned if they get killed.

Talk to Honoi-Gomoi (water sout E7) get star spinell from spelunking sabotender in quicksand caves, trade to honoi-gomoi. then talk to kohlo-lakolo, and finally back to honoi-gomoi.

some of the names might be wierd or off but hopefully it helps
