In-Game TextDescriptionTo get this quest, talk to an NPC named Alfesar in Rabao at (H-7) near the pond rim. He will ask you to find something in the Quicksand Caves. Make sure you have a map ready. Head off to the Quicksand Caves entrance in Eastern Altepa Desert at (J-7). You must find a targetable ??? in there and touch it for the key item Ancient Tablet Fragment. How to get to the ??? points: You will only need Sneak for this quest. Enter through the (J-7) entrance of Eastern Altepa. This is our starting point, you will not need to check any other entrances. Okay, on this first map you're in you'll notice there's a drop at (I-7)/(J-7). If you fall on the Western side of the drop it will take you to 1/5 of the spawnpoints. If you drop down the Eastern side, this route will eventually lead us to the other 4/5 spawnpoints. If you choose to go West, hug the right wall until you you're in a dead end with a beetle at (H-6). This is a spawnpoint. If it is not there exit at (D-5) to Eastern Altepa and return to the (J-7) entrance to our starting point to now check the other points. If you go East, hug the right wall until you come to the open room. There is a spawn point in the middle of this room around (H-10) or (G-10). If it's not there, continue to head west hugging the right wall until you reach the other smaller room. In the Northwest corner of this room in (E-9) is another spawn point. On the map, you'll notice there is another drop thing. Drop into the (F-10) portion in the Southeast corner, signified by a little A. You are now on the 2nd map. Follow the path through until you reach the junction at (F-9). Turn right first, and travel to around (D-9) to check this spawn point. If it isn't there, turn around and head East. You'll reach the open room and you're going to want to take the Southeast passage from this room in (I-10). Take a left at the junction and head East until you reach (L-11)... the last spawnpoint. If it is not at this point, then it has sadly moved and you're going to want to start again. Spawnpoints on first map: H-6, H-10, E-9 Spawnpoints on second map: D-9, L-11 Once you obtain the Ancient Tablet Fragment, return to Rabao and talk to Alfesar again. He will tell you to go to San d'Oria Cathedral to meet Charlaimagnat. Charlaimagnat is located downstairs. When you first enter the chapel turn left and at the end of the hallway before the Manuscript room there is a stairway on the right. Talk to him to get the reward. He'll ask you to come back another day because he need to translate the scroll first. Return to him when he's done and you'll get your reward. How many days does this old fool need to decipher the scroll?
So I wish I had found this earlier, as I just spent 12 hours, and 3k XP looking for it. I got so fed up with it, that I had to take a 2 hour break about halfway through. I had some random BST look for one for me, I was questing this with a Lv 31 WHM friend of mine. I fell down the side that leads to (Cloister of Tremors) at the time the BST said ??? at (E-9)[Map 2]. My friend did not fall down the same place I did, and was able to get the ??? and the table he needed right away (20 mins). He had told me that it always spawned there, or he was at least pretty sure. So I spend the next several hours hovering around the area looking for it. I find a ??? at (D-11)[Map 2] and am surrounded by ants. I get it and Warp to Rabao, only to find I'd found a Antican Tag not the tablet. Just tried again and died, because there was no safe spot to re-cast sneak or invis, whatever caused the ant to aggro me. Anyway, tomorrow when I wake up, I'm going to give this a shot using the walkthrough, and I'll post and see how it goes. I have an odd feeling it's going to work and I'll feel foolish. But better than nothing, my static is upset that I'm now a half a level below them, and don't have a scroll to show for it.

Safe spot to recast sneak/invis? Just stop moving when it's wearing off. You can stand right infront of a large group and recast it, as long as you don't move/turn and make noise. I did this at lvl 55 and just stood among them to recast sneak when it was wearing off and they didn't even look at me. They aggro sound only, so invis is not even needed.
And the map is the Coffer reward item.

everything is aggro sound BUT if you're standing still next to a Cactuar when sneak wears you will still get aggro, why i don't know but as a 53SMN i died a little while ago because of this, so if you need to recast sneak anywhere other then near a Cactuar is fine just be sure to stop moving before it wears off
aside from the death this went pretty well, ??? was at the third spot i checked and the map from KillingIfrit was the most helpful thing

Without sneak - you can still be heard breathing!! =P
Its a coffer map, get a key, open it up, the first time you open a chest in there, other then needing a AF piece, will give you the map...

Alfesar, a monk in Rabao, needs your help in finding an Ancient Tablet Fragment. A few days before, he hired a researcher to research the caves and brought a fragmant back to him. The fragment is located at a random ???, details on how to get to the ???'s are listed above.

After giving Charlaimagnat the Tablet & Letter, he asks for you to come back another day because he needs to decipher the tablet. After waiting til after 00:01 Japanese time, or 10:00 EST, Charlaimagnat will give you the scroll of Teleport-Altep.

Decided to take the west tunnel to start with, which is lucky that I did as the spawn spot was right there waiting for me, behind the beetle. XD

This quest is so frustrating for me... I've been here two days (not playing solidly) but still no luck. I've started the quest and everything, found the ???? about 6 times and everytime it's been an antican necklace, except for once nothing happened. I can't even print the map + guide because my printer isn't working. argh ><
Well, Xen, thanks to you this is a simple easy quest. I just did it today, I made the decision to drop down the west side to the 1 spawn point, and I got lucky! It was there! Thanks to your awesome directions or this could be a very difficult quest. By the way, I think you do need Invisible. I'm not sure but I kept it on. I think the beetles and ants agro on site? Thanks again for making that easy. Now to wait for my scroll. :D

If my information is correct, the beetles in the Quicksand Caves will not aggro you. True they are the only mob here that detects on sight, but they are also only passive linkers. So unless you decide to attack one (Why the hell should you even consider such silly thoughts), you won't have to bother with the beetles aggroing.

Unless the beetles are too weak, you need invis. They were EP+ with my Earth Staff on, so I kept invis up. I'm guessing I wouldn't have gotten aggro if I had my daggers equipped, but...oh well. Ants, for those wondering, aggro only to sound.

What weapon you have equipped does not determine whether you will get aggro from something. The traditional checks of "Easy Prey" or "Too Weak" are dependant on your level, and the corresponding information of "low evasion" or "high defense" are as a result of what weapons you have equipped, your skill in those weapons, and any acc or attk equipment you have with you, as well as the stats of that particular mob (usually crabs will seem to have higher defense unless you're much higher leveled, due to their nature). These stats(evasion and defense) do not determine whether you will get aggro. Sometimes you will not get aggro from an EP, but that is usually because the mob is on the fringe of being TWTBW, in other words if you were a level or two higher it would be Too Weak, and some of it's sister mobs in the area might even con Too Weak to you.

It took me an hour or so to do this one because I didn't read all of it. Tried to use the map thought the black dots were the spawns points. So moral of the story after I read all the direction it did take all of 10 minutes thank you for directions
I did this quest last night and it only took me15 minutes following the directions above. I found the spawnpoint at the last location if you go the East route. The only bad part if you have to wait a couple days RL to get the scroll.

dont get discourage when u get an antican tag lol is what i got. Tried to talk to the ncp and nothing, tried trading it to him and nothing. I figure out that the tag wasn't what he wanted so went back went to a different spawn point h-6 i recall and got the stupid fragment after about 7 attemps and 3 warps lol so good luck to all....another thing i've been doing them all as a level 40 whtm i need vahlz and the yhohoat (if thats how u spell it).....anybody need help with any holla at me at pandemonium server( i think) for any help

I've waiting for over 12 hours now and I still cannot recieve this scroll.. Does the 8 hour timer restart if you talked to him before the first 8 hours? Thanks
Did this last night quite quickly. Me and a rdm friend needed it and just decided to go out and do it. A blm friend that did it before offered to help look for the ???'s with us.
Took all of 5 mins, we ended up range fighting a worm for fun to skill up archery, throwing and black magic for a few mins.
Found the ??? and figured we'd have to go find another one but i told the rdm she could have the first one but I stayed targeted on it while she did it and as soon as she said she got it I went click it and got mine too then it disappeared.
Not sure if it was because I kept it targeted or just because I clicked on it a second or two after she did but we were both able to get the key item off the same ???.

i did this quest to i recomend you do it when you go out to get the actual crystal for teleport Altep kill two bird with one stone.
Anyhoo talked to the npc in rabao
Went to entrenc eof Quicksand i had no map followed the map posted here.
died first time looking for it cause i thought even if you don't move around while i was waiting for the "???" to spawn i decided not to cast sneak

make sure you cast reraise if you have it so you don't have to travel all the way out there again
after i came to i decided to check the two spawn points i was near wasn't there so i logged out for 10 mins and checked on mules.
when i logged back in finally found the "???"

it took me almost exactly 5 minutes to find the ??? after entering the caves. I dropped off the east dropoff first and it was at the last spot (L-11 on map 2).
Another lie that pervades this post is about the waiting period. Just like the Teleport-Yhoat quest, you have to wait anywhere from 24-48 real-life hours to get scroll, and has nothing to do with Japan time.
having to wait 24-48 hrs is not true, Just did this on Sunday. Just turn in the items to the guy in the church, wait till the next gameday, which could be 1 min. or 1 hr. go back and talk to him and you get the scroll. I turned in scroll at 23:00 game time, went to moghouse to unload a few items and went back about 5 min. later and got scroll.

He is lieing out of his ***. i just did this quest and the day passed from lights to darks, and i talked to the NPC pn lights day and i aint got the scroll yet. so b4 posting get ur facts right. Adios.

I'm getting the same message as Geena... I have been waiting for 8 hour IRL to get this scroll and he still is tell me to come back another day... I am starting to think that you have to wait 24-28 he IRL just like original post said
Well then.....explain to me why I have been waiting now for 6hrs real life time and the guy just keeps telling me to come back another day?

Gamedays have nothing to do with it. As in other teleport questsand also mission 6-2 Sandy, you must wait until the server changes days. The servers reset at 12:00am in Japan, which is 11am Est. If you hand in the tablet at 10:59 est, then come back 2 minuntes later it will be done. But if u turn it in at 11:01, you will need to wait 23:59 min to get the scroll.

I can't find the caves entrance in east altep (J-7).
I have found a pit near there but I could not get in it and it was guarded by a Doom Scorpion.

Apparently some one posted my forum comment as the main walkthrough o.o Interesting... If I had known that woulda happaned I woulda included all the stuff about the NPC's and waiting periods.

This quest is started in Rabao from the NPC Alfesar who is found by the lake to the right of the moogles (as you enter Rabao). After getting the Tablet of Ancient Magic (by following steps lisited above) talk to Alfesar again. He will instruct you to go back to San d'Oria and talk to Charlaimagnat who can be found downstairs in the San d'Oria Cathedral. To get to Charlaimagnat take a left and head towards the Manuscript Room, then turn right and go downstairs and he is the first NPC you will see.
Can someone with acess not write at the begining of the quest description, that you start the quest by talking with Alfesar in Rabao and THEN followed by the guide? Maybe writing that you need to go to Quicksand cave.

No, because it's not really needed. To the left of the quest writeup are the following two pieces of information:
Start Area: Rabao
Start NPC: Alfesar
Also, if you're doing this quest you're probably not going to be a 'new player'. It requires level 4 fame, and if you're going to be using it you're at least level 38 on your WHM job. By this point you should have experience with quests, though I suppose not necessarily with the way Allakhazam works.
