In-Game Text

Description

Speak with the NPC Wahid in front of the auction house in Bastok Mines.

He will ask you to retreive a Sirens Tear for him that he is in need of.

Before you go outside strip of all weapons, shield and ammo. Also, make sure you still have a slot available in your inventory. Go in to North Gustaberg and follow the road to the creek. Look for a little area that dips down to the water at J-9 on you map. Use the TAB key to auto target until you target something that says ???. Once targeted hit enter. (Note: You MUST have nothing in your hands to pick this up)

You now have the Siren's Tear. Head back to Wahid and receive your reward of 150 gil.

And I finally got around to doing this. Took me 5 tries before coming here and reading a reminder to have inventory space available. Thanks ZAM!
easy

Just got this, you can disarm at the river. You must go through the Port Bastok exit (the right side of N. Gustaberg that does not go to Konschtat). From the exit walk left (west) till you get to the river at about J-9. At the top part of the river I found the ???. Easy.

Dude said if I find more to bring him them, is this repeatable?
cant find spot

if ur having trouble finding the ??? spot then try it on a sunny day. anyone can get it no matter what race or job as long as u have nothing on your hands: rings, weapons, shield, ranged or ammo this might also include fishing stuff: poles and worms
My experience

Was out already in N. Gusaberg with full armor and weapons on. Decided to try this quest since I had it in my quest log. Took off all armor, weapons (dont forget fishing rod too). Then found the ??? at the most south east part of the river..just south of the lower bridge. Clicked it and got the Sirens Tear.

One point of this is ..is that you dont need to undress prior to going outside. You can disarm at the river.

Ok this thing is really starting to **** me off.

I've had this quest activated for over a year and now that I am completing the Blue Mage flag, I need to get this. I walk on over to Dangruf Wadi, exit at J-3, then head on toward the waterfall. I find the ???, the Waterfall Base, and a hidden target (one with no name).

Everyone has said the siren's tear is at the ??? on the right side of the waterfall. I unequip everything (just to make sure) and target the ???, select it and it says "There is nothing out of the ordinary here." I try several more times and get the same answer. I even went to the otherside to check the other two targets and I get the same response.

Next I figure that I didn't talk to the guy who clues you in on where you find the siren's tear (the guy in the Sheep's Inn or something like that). I walk all the way back and talk to him. He says "Another Siren's Tear has fallen along the side of the riverside." Then I go to the person who gives you the quest (Wahid) and he talks about the problems of Quadav invasions or something useless like that.

Also on the way back from the waterfall I did the Breaking Stones quest (someone had said that was interfering with the siren's tear).

Now I walked all the way back to the ??? and I still got the same response.

I'm thinking about just buying it from the AH because as of now it looks like this is impossible for me. Any info on what I really missed please reply.

Thanks

It's not the ??? that's by the waterfall in N.Gustaberg. It's the ??? that's next to the river just to the west of the Port Bastok exit. That is, you must go out the Port Bastok exit. Make sure you deequip your weapons/ammo, etc. Don't know the POS though. But if you've gone through Dangruf Wadi, you've gone too far.

Your at the wrong spot. The spot you are looking for is J-9 at North Gustaberg. Its not the waterfall. Its actually at a stream that you take a bridge over if you follow the road in that area. Its by Obere Creek, south of Zegham Hill.

I have talked to the two guys involved with this quest. I entered the map naked, walked up to the shore line. Scanned it for ???, clicked yes, and EVERY GOD DAMN TIME, it slips away further down the stream. I get as close to it as possible too. I wonder if it is a luck thing...

It turns out, I figured out that while my brother was playing for me, he got the item and I didn't know it. If the item is in your inventory, you won't be able to get it. Be sure if you are having the same problem you don't have the item in your inventory or Mog House/Safe. >,<'

hi guys, i have just found it but it wasn't in the left side of the river (J-9) where i was told to search, i was on a corner in the right side of the river (J-8), i don't know if it was an isolated case but i hope it helps someone else

Greetings
can't find it

RE: can't find it
# Apr 24 2006 at 11:42 AM Rating: Decent
I could only target it from the other side of the river. I then walked around on the bridge and grabbed it. Hope this helps.

I did this today and got it as 62 BLM/31 WHM All I had open was my main, sub, and range slots. I did have an egg in the ammo slot and I wore full armor, rings, earrings, etc. It seems that once you get the tear it goes away.. so maybe it has a respawn timer...
huge freeekin problem!!

War for Siren's Tear
# Apr 02 2005 at 4:12 PM Rating: Decent
I think you need to be a war to do it...
I tried it with my whm with no armor/weapons equipped... nothing..

Switched to war and got it without a problem.
I dont know if this was a freak thing or what, but it may be useful for some other people here.

I did it as WHM just fine, so anyone with a Lv1 WAR who was planning to Solid Snake it to the lake need not worry.

WARNING: !!Dangruf Wadi Breaking Stones Quest BREAKS the Siren's Tear quest!!

If you are a low level (less than level 15), you *DO NOT* want to get the Breaking Stones quest started (it is to find a stone in the Dangruf Wadi and the person you don't want to talk to is in the Bastok Markets.. see the Breaking Stones quest for details)

While travelling to the mines for the early missions and for levelling, you can do several Tear pickups at the creek that you pass on the way.

But once you get the Breaking Stones quest, you won't be able to find the Tears anymore. They just wont exist for you, although your companions (who haven't gotten this quest) will still be able to target them.

Perhaps some people who cannot find Tears are having exactly this problem. Check your Quests.. if Breaking Stones is in the current quest list, give up.. you won't find a Tear.

Btw, the Tear spawns in about 4 or 5 spots on the Creek.. 3 of them are: on the very north east side of the creek, on the very south east side of the creek, on the middle of the east side at a bend in the creek.. and I believe there are one to two spots on the west side.. so check the east side first, then do the west.

If you haven't changed your keyboard, the easiest way to search is to use F8 (target NPC) repeatedly. On Ps2, you can hit the left/right target select (direction towards river) repeatedly.

Good luck..

I would say you might not be able to do this quest when you have the breaking stones quest activated. I've done both of them many times.

Just trade the tear to him.
Random spots.
# May 02 2004 at 11:39 PM Rating: Decent
No, it's at random spots along the river. And as far as stripping all your armor off and everything, you don't have to. You only have to remove your weapons, and or shields, etc... And after you obtain the Siren's Tear, you can put it all back on again. This quest is meant for newbies, it's real easy. And something else that isn't mentioned above is that you actually go talk to some guy in the Steaming Sheep in Port Bastok after you get the quest from Wahid. He'll tell you that you can't wear weapons and such to pick up the Tear.
Picking it up
# Feb 29 2004 at 1:12 AM Rating: Good
Once you've targetted it, go to it, get as close to the arrow as you can and click it...you will get a message telling you you see something shiny and it will ask if you want to pick it up. Click yes, and you have it.

wahid said that if I find more, I should bring them to him and get rewarded... does that mean this quest is repeatable?

Yes this quest is repeatable.
getting the tear
# Feb 05 2004 at 11:24 AM Rating: Excellent
ok, heres what i did.
1) you CAN fight proir to picking it up.
2) you dont have to unequip until right before you grab it. No sense running around naked. I did unequip everything just to be sure.
3) if it didnt work you are doing something way wrong. Fame isn't needed for this at all.
4) it's not the big river like i first thought, its the first small one in N. Gusta. There are too bridges, it is usually between them.

was annoying though, someone grabbed it before i could and it slipped down the river to a place under a high bank. then no one could get close enough to grab it:( clumsy warriors.

I have also verified these points, specifically 1) and 2). I unequipped my maul and shield only, and still picked it up while holding my Fortune Egg and all my armor. A quick 150 for those looking for some better starting equipment, especially since it's repeatable.
location of ???
# Jan 23 2004 at 6:48 PM Rating: Default
The ??? location is random at that river. Had ??? locked when i did this quest a few weeks ago, than another person took the tear. ??? than disapeared and popped ut longer down the river. Not much gil to get here. I recomend taking the Lighthouse quest ( steam clock ) you can make 2500 gil per hour. If you have warp or flee you can make more per hour.
