Summary

According to the words of Carbuncle, the thief that is stealing the avatars' energy from adventurers is currently in Bastok. You must travel to Bastok to confront the situation.

Walkthrough

Go to the House of the Hero in Windurst Walls and speak to Carbuncle.

Then go to Port Bastok and talk to Juroro at I-8. He gives you the Earth Pendulum and tells you to travel to the Quicksand Caves in Altepa Desert.

Within the Quicksand Caves, you will need to make your way to the Cloister of Tremors at C-8. Within the Cloister of Tremors you will see an Earth Protocrystal.

Trade the Earth Pendulum to the Earth Protocrystal. A short cut scene will take place. After the scene ends you find yourself in the battlefield. You have 30 minutes to kill the NM Galgalim that spawns at the top of the ramp.

After you kill the NM, return to Bastok and talk to Juroro.

Return to Windurst Walls and talk to Koru-Moru at E-7 to receive your Kukulcan's Staff.

I just soloed this as a 71 whm/35 blm.It was very easy. I beat it in 11 minutes and 14 seconds. It has a good amount of HP. ; ;

Basically I just kept stoneskin up and kept silence on it most of the time, and occasionally paralyze. I had no problem getting enfeebs to stick. When stoneskin dropped it was doing about 30-40 points of damage a hit, but it missed a lot. I used up 4 yag drinks that I had laying around, that helped a lot with keeping MP up. I finished with about 320~ MP.

I used seraph strike whenever I hit 300% TP.
When it got to a little before halfway I used Banish III and Holy and kept it up whenever the recast timer went back down.

So yeah, this is verrry easy. Good luck!

Decided to try this as a 75PLD/WHM solo. Subbed WHM for Stoneskin, Blink, and Reraise, since I was unsure for how much it would hit me. Overkill.

With a WHM sub, I was able to silence Galgalim easily. It has horrible accuracy against a 75. Even without stoneskin or blink, its melee attack would do under 20 damage when it was able to land a hit. It likes to spam Hex Eye, which always missed, and Death Ray, which hit me for about 40, with a 180 max once. It will also sleep you, which is of little consequence considering you will wake up once you are hit.

Waterga 2 and Blizzard 2 were the only BLM spells used on me, hitting for about 100 each with my Jelly Ring on.

Each of my hits landed for about 80-100, with several criticals for 140+. All you really need to do is cast Protect/Shell, melee to 300%TP, then Spirits Within it to finish it off.

Hope this helps!

hello, sorry if the question has been answered before..but would a level 50smn(w/ austere set) be able to solo this thing if she used the 3x astral flow strategy like was used in the lv 20 mini avatar battles?

thank you for your time and patience

Just soloed as 56SMN, was a bit rough due to not paying attention to what the exact mp needed to Astral Flow at 56 was, and as such only got in 2 Searing Lights. Could also possibly have been better off damagewise with Titan due to elements, but - wanted to try with Carbuncle due to dark based mob, and made it nicely.

I'd say SMN51 with light and dark staff should be able to do it regardless, as you can put Carbuncle on mob, run to the other end and get two ticks of rest in after Carbuncle dies before needing to recast.

Just did this as 73whm 62blm and 46whm, took 5 minutes. Blm did 2 AM that did over 900 each, took maybe 10% each. I'd guess this guy has in the neighborhood of 8k hp. If you went with enough drinks and ethers, you could make a battle out of it, but idk if you'd run out of time before you could end it.

Easily soloed this as a 64 RDM/WHM (gasp! A RDM that doesn't sub NIN for soloing!?). Buffed and meleed, throwing in a Dia II for good measure. Only nukes I used were at the end to finish it off. Had to recast some of my buffs, including Stoneskin which it only managed to break through once. Even without Stoneskin, it was only hitting me for like 15 damage. Took almost no damage and used less than half my MP. Battle took about 6 minutes total. This mob should be cake with a single high LV.
Soloing the NM

I just finished soloing the NM using my BLM72. Had to try two times, because I didn't realize how much HP it had the first time around and ran out of MP, and the mob can not be slept (Unlike the WHM AF1 NM, which is also soloable).

The way to kill this NM is to use DoT. I used Bio 2, Poison 2, and Burn to chip away it's HP over a 6 min period (3 recasts), along with a good dose of Drain and Aspir. I also used Firaga 3/Blizzaga 3 for about 1000+ damage each, and a Blizzard 3 for 600 to finish it off. Any RDM/BLM or BLM/WHM should be able to do this with ease 65+, even if it takes nearly the time limit to finish it off. Just remember to cast Stoneskin because it likes to use Drain and AoE spells while you kite it around.

Also, you do not obtain a key item after defeating the NM, and you cannot redo the battle either. Just go back to Juroro and talk to him. I got kinda worried because when I clicked on the Protocrystal, it kept offering me to do the Titan Prime battle. ^^

Summoner AF1 - Kukulcan's Staff
-------------------------------

Go to the "House of the Hero" at (G-3) in Windurst Walls and talk to Carbuncle.

Afterwards, go talk to Juroro at (I-8) of Port Bastok. There will be a cutscene and he will then give you an Earth Pendulum.

Then travel to Eastern Altepa Desert whether through Korroloka Tunnel which can be accessed through Zeruhn Mines/Bastok Mines or the Teleport-Altepa crag (Or you can Teleport-Altept). After arriving in Eastern Altepa Desert go to the (J-7) entrance of Quicksand Caves (it is down the trench-like structure). sneak oils are needed under lvl 70 if you cant cast and keep sneak on yourself. Prism Powder is not needed.

Once inside of Quicksand Caves you can follow this map (I've marked the path you will need to take):

http://home.comcast.net/~jhunwung/smnaf1.jpg

*************************************************
*** quick cave walkthrough ***
*** for all non-map readers***
Enter cave, Follow LEFT wall untill first drop off. Once you drop off first mini-cliff go through hole in wall and follow the RIGHT wall. This will lead you past 1 room into another hole in the wall and into another room. In this third room you will see another drop off, MAKE SURE YOU USE THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE DROP OFF and fall down, this will take you through another hole in the wall and to the closter of tremors, the crystal is to the right once you zone here.
************************************************

Once you reach the Cloister of Tremors take the right path and you will see the all mighty Earth Protocrystal. Have the person trade the Earth Pendulum to the Earth Protocrystal then the party or person(s) will then be able to enter the battlefield.

After killing the little glob guy just travel to bastok and talk with the taru at (I-8) in Port Bastok, which will give you another cutscene. Then travel to Windurst Walls and talked to Koru-Koru located at (E-7) to recieve Kukulcan's Staff.

Congradulations AF1 has been completed.

Note: you can have other koru koru quests activated and still do this.

Note: you can do this solo (confirmed) however your smn (lvl40+) must talk to the NPC's.

Note: if you choose to do this solo you do not have to fight the NM as your smn you can do it as any job once your smn job has spoken to the NPC's and got the Pendulum.

Party breakdown:
51 SMN/WHM
55 BLM/WHM

Alexander record of 5min 53 sec.

Buffs:
ProtectraII, Shellra, Stoneskin, Blink, + food

SMN started with Double Slap and 2hrs
BLM Freeze x 2, Water III, numerous II spells, 2hr'd when HP and MP were low

Turns out lvl 55 taru BLM isn't the best tank and my HPs ran real low (SMN down MP b/c of 2hr), even down into the 50's (out of 579).

Just did this for a SMN friend of mine who've been putting this off for too long, it was like this:
SAM73 (me)
BLM70
SMN47

We run in, I hit Berserk and Warcry then Meikyo Shisui... Tachi: Yukikaze to Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) to Tachi: Kasha (Light) then BLM MB's Firaga 3, dead. Killed it in less than 90 seconds. Total we did about 4800 damage to it.

I had the same experience as the other poster in that I had the stupid quest with the cold bone and warm egg open with Koru-Moru. I followed the steps for this quest to the letter. Talk to carby in house of hero, went to bastok to talk to taru that gives "improved tuning fork" item, traded it to crystal, got CS, entered zone killed jelly guy, zoned out went back to Koru-Moru and NOTHING. Finished the cold bone/warm egg quest and went back to crystal to try it again and it will not let me back in!!!!!!! So am I screwed?????? HHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPP MMMMMMEEEEEE PLEASE!

OK!!! Edit. For those of you who may be having this same issue. You can fake the quest out by doing all of the steps over again. Go back to the house of hero and click the door, you get a message that "you remember carbuncle's words", then go back to bastok and talk to the taru in port then go back to Koru-Moru and you will get yoru staff.

Done this twice, once for a friend of mine, just me and him, I solo'd it for him as a 61BLM/30WHM Taru, and this time it was for me, again I went as 61BLM/30WHM, but I brought along some friends cause they simply wanted to help, 63SAM/31WAR 55RDM/20NIN, 52WHM/26BLM. This time I was much better equipped, I have all 8 elemental staves, and my dark staff is HQ (Pluto's Staff), and I have a Vermillion Cloak as well.

As 40SMN/20WHM I have 778 MP, the most possible for my level, and for the record, it's my dream job, so I plan to do my best at it, and from my gear you can see I'm working very hard. I also have an Austere Robe and Hat awaiting my Ding to 50.

Finished this quest with EASE. Pt was:

69drk/war
53rdm/blm
52whm/blm
40smn/whm (me, didn't take my rdm :/)

All we did was run up and start meleeing the thing. Just for fun I Used astral flow + tidal wave (watersday, didn't know weakness of the monster) for about 670 damage ... our drk just hacked away :] Hurray for the Galka!! But I had a Koru-Moru quest activated (the burnite shell one, fought Ichirous Ire once and lost the lot) but he still gave me my staff. It's quite ugly :/ ... but then again I turned down good armor for a gambison JUST because it was cuter.

Is it possible to just trade a mini tunning fork to the guy in Bastok and get a instant warp over to cloister of tremors, then wait for your party members to catch up and then go kill the nm?

I have no idea if that idea will work although its worth a try hehe, but no you dont just have to be "lvl 20" its at least lvl 20 to get the quest flagged for the titan fight ive also heard you can do it a lvl or two under but havent confirmed it myself, yes you would get warped there and no you wont get capped at lvl 20 you only get capped at 20 when you actually enter the lvl 20 avatar fights not the actual cloister of tremors part the only question remaining is it the same Cloister as the one in quicksand ^^; that i dont know myself :"(

"Nothing Matters" -- doesn't matter =p
# Nov 13 2004 at 1:22 PM Rating: Decent
My friend and I did this entire quest, and he had no problems getting his AF1 weapon, despite having the "Nothing Matters" quest opened and incomplete. My friend was BLM75 at the time (and attempting to complete the quest for his SMN42) and I was BLM70. We used Bind and blasted this mob like mad, and its retalitory magic didn't even wear through either of our Stoneskin spells (still active after we left the Protocrystal Arena, LOL). He was concerned about being able to receive his weapon, after reading the post here on Allakhazam about other quests opened at the same time from this NPC, but was able to complete the quest AND receive his AF weapon. Sorry buddy, but something else is blocking your progress :( I hope you can find it, but this definately isn't it. As for an estimate of mob strength, it's about the same as other AF1 NMs, nothing a decently rounded party of 45+ or even a single, or pair, of hi-levs can't handle. Gotta love the music in the Cloisters! =D

I assume it's about as useful as the mini forks after you get all the avatars. I just threw them into storage in case I ever want to go fight those guys again for kicks. Those fights were a lot more fun than the group battles!

Just completed this. It's really simple. Just a note, though, Jhunwung's post is excellent in explaining what to do, but then you zone into the Cloister of Tremors, go right, not left. Left takes you to back to Altepa desert, right takes you to the protocrystal. Not a big deal, but it clarifies a bit. ^_^ Had a party of HLs a PLD, WAR, DRK, WHM and me (SMN). We beat the record in the Titan server, with a time of 2 min and 40 sec. And just like the others have said, there is no need to touch the protocrystal after the battle. There is no Key Item. Good luck to you all.

Did this last night:

64RDM/NIN (Tanking for me)
63BLM/WHM (Me)

You don't have to be SMN when you do this fight.

The thing never had a chance to eat through the stoneskin and blink we had fast enough to knock us down even 100 HP. Let alone get us close to death.

We actually got the record time for the quest. 6 Minutes, 19 Seconds on Quetzalcoatl. Which seems a bit wrong to me. This thing would be absolutely destroyed if we had more people. Amazed nobody has made a faster time.

You do keep the Earth Pendulum after the fight is over. So I'm assuming that you can go back in again at your leisure and do it again if you want to go for a faster time or something.

I cast Flare, Fire III, and Firaga II. By then, it was almost dead. RDM only cast Thunder II, and Fire II. The rest was all melee damage from the RDM. And it was going down very fast. Even casting the spells I did, it didn't even scratch my skin on damage with all the hate I had plastered to me.

It didn't appear to do any massively damaging AoE. I was standing right next to it the entire time. So maybe we got lucky.

I can soundly say though, a 64RDM/NIN can solo this thing.

EDIT: When you go back to speak to Jororo and Koru Maru, you don't have to be SMN either. I spoke to them both as BLM/WHM.

SMN AF1 - Kukulcan's Staff

The other night my LS decided to have some AF hunting fun. Our first stop: Quicksand Caves. The party consisted of:

Chinqlinq - 57PLD/WAR
Swilly - 45RNG/NIN
Bdroid - 50MNK/THF
Drexil - 42SMN/WHM
Jhunwung - 52BLM/WHM

On most LS outtings such as this one, I was designated "finder". So I look on AK for some directions and found very little help. Thus, I decided to do some experimenting and decided to write this guide...

Summoner AF1 - Kukulcan's Staff

Go to the "House of the Hero" at (G-3) in Windurst Walls and talk to Carnbuncle.

Afterwards, go talk to Juroro at (I-8) of Port Bastok. He will then give you an Earth Pendulum.

Then travel to Eastern Altepa Desert whether through Korroloka Tunnel which can be accessed through Zeruhn Mines/Bastok Mines or the Teleport-Altepa crag. After arriving in Eastern Altepa Desert go to the (J-7) entrance of Quicksand Caves (it is down the trench-like structure). You may want to consider bringing Sneak Oils for your trip, Prism Powder isn't really needed.

Once inside of Quicksand Caves you can follow this map (I've marked the path you will need to take):

http://home.comcast.net/~jhunwung/smnaf1.jpg

Once you reach the Cloister of Tremors take the right path and you will see the all mighty Earth Protocrystal. Have the summoner trade the Earth Pendulum to it and then the party will then be able to enter the battlefield.

After killing the little glob guy just travel to Windurst Walls and talked to Koru-Koru located at (E-7) to recieve Kukulcan's Staff.

Questions you might be Wondering...

What level should you be to take on this NM?
I would recommend a party of Lvl42. In that case it should be a fairly normal battle with little or no trouble at all.

Where is the Teleport-Altepa crag located?
It is in Eastern Altepa Desert on the line between (G-6) and (G-7) inside of the trench.

To conclude: Feel free to comment/correct anything I have said wrong or just something that needs to be pointed out. But otherwise... RATE MY POST!! ^^. Thank you.
