Summary

According to the words of Carbuncle, the thief that is stealing the avatars' energy from adventurers is currently in Bastok. You must travel to Bastok to confront the situation.

Walkthrough

Go to the House of the Hero in Windurst Walls and speak to Carbuncle.

Then go to Port Bastok and talk to Juroro at I-8. He gives you the Earth Pendulum and tells you to travel to the Quicksand Caves in Altepa Desert.

Within the Quicksand Caves, you will need to make your way to the Cloister of Tremors at C-8. Within the Cloister of Tremors you will see an Earth Protocrystal.

Trade the Earth Pendulum to the Earth Protocrystal. A short cut scene will take place. After the scene ends you find yourself in the battlefield. You have 30 minutes to kill the NM Galgalim that spawns at the top of the ramp.

After you kill the NM, return to Bastok and talk to Juroro.

Return to Windurst Walls and talk to Koru-Moru at E-7 to receive your Kukulcan's Staff.

Did this tonight because I wasn't getting any invites...

MNK47/WAR23 < - ME
BLM60/WHM30
SAM48/WAR24
SMN40ish/WHM??
SMN40ish/WHM??

We entered, buffed, I used a chiefka, so did the SAM, BLM used a Fishkabob(they were actually planning to tank), we went up (exciting!) and engaged, BLM began nuking and safe to say took hate quick, I got paralyzed, paralyned, then used Hundred Fists. I took hate every once an awhile, I believe only the BLM was out damaging me at the time. The spikes hit me for 15 damage per hit..and with HF thats a good bit. But, all an all it was pretty easy. No need for real high leveled help, but the BLM did help alot (and was very nice, yay for Warp II). The SMNs both Astral Flowed with Levithan at the end just to finish it quick.

Edit: Wow, Almost made a total *** of my self (said "BLM didn't help alot" instead of "BLM did help alot" glad I caught that..)

Did this tonight after camping the Earth Protocrystal for 3-4 hours(Asking high levels in Quicksand Caves for help). Finally got a 75nin to come help me with it. Added up the damage after the battle, and a total of 5721 was done. This was *BARELY* over the max this guy had, so I'm going with this guy has 5700HP give or take 10HP.I would submit a picture of him, but I don't know how >-<.
just tried again

this time i went there as 40 SMN (me), 70 BLM, 52 BRD, 52 RNG, 55 PLD, 55 WAR, 50 SAM, and 53 MNK

it was a super over kill
set new server record with 2 min soemthing seconds on Fenrir server (should have been shorter if we buffed before entering and didn't bother watching the cut scene)
the actual battle only lasted 30sec~1min and everyone was frusterated how fast we killed it

wasn't really planning to take that many people (originally onlly had the BRD, RNG, and PLD helping) but everyone just kept adding more friends who were willing to help

so yeah hope this helped

and two make oen thing clear
like everyone below mentioned u do not need to touch the protocrystal again after you kill the NM, there is NO KEY ITEM
omg the hp...

i went here with my 40 SMN and a 70 BLM friend

we got owned...
In the beginning, i tried using 2hr with Ifrit but it killed Ifrit with Waterga while readying Inferno
I took 400 dmg and was left with 100+ hp
the Taru BLM guy only took 80 DMG and was nuking like crazy
each did 300~800 DMG but by the time it was left with 25% of its HP, it used its special to leave the BLM with 40 HP

wow... never knew someone can run that fast...
he zoned out by getting to the crystal but I ended up dead right before touching the crystal
I was glad we didn't get a lvl 70 to die but it was kind of frusterating

we hit it for over 3000 DMG and that a little bit over 75% of it HP I think

He said it was soloable with his BLM before and claims that SE made it harder
A lvl 56 THF friend of mine claims that the BLM just sucked really bad and that he would help me with his static PT

I just hope the THF guy is right or we were just unlucky...
Seriously... the last thing we need is SE to make the game even harder for SMNs.
Key Item Business

I did this fight as my 56 whm/smn job. Traded pendulum, duked it out with my pt..and got no key item when I searched the crystal afterward.

There is no key item. I freaked out about it, because this walkthrough says you have to get one. It doesn't exist. >.< I have my Kukulcan staff and I got it sans said key item.

No key item.

Hitpoints, hitpoints, hitpoints!

Jeebus crust....this guy has more hitpoints than anything I've ever seen!! :O

After reading these posts, my hubby and I (56 whm/smn and 50 whm/blm) decided to try duoing this for my summoner artifact.

He's very easy to debuff. We silenced and paralyzed. But for all the nukes and hits and weaponskills we could land...and after hi-ethers and melon juices..we couldn't keep up with his hit points. We estimate this has 3000+ hitpoints, judging from how much our Holy was chipping away from it. Not a pretty sight.

Get the quest in windurst with your smn 40 +

Note something, the rest of the quest can be done with another class, so i used my whm 54 to do it.

got the earth pendulum with my whm
went to protocrystal, traded the pendulum with my whm
then fight (easy fight) with my whm
and then finish the quest.

so if you have a job lvl 60+ you can solo it easy =)

NM Fight

Went after this guy for Smn AF-1. Had a party of 3, which included a 61 Rdm, a 50 Whm, and me a 40 Smnr. The fight took perhaps 3 minutes and change. The Rdm fought the jelly and we just kept him buffed and healed. At some point near the end of the fight the nm did an attack that hit me the smn'r for over 400 dmg. Left me with 39 hp. Nothing really hit me again so had plenty of time to heal out of it. I was a good distance away but still on the upper level. So if you are the 40 Smn'r in this match dress a bit more fo HP so you can get past the attack. IF you go on this fight try and bring a 60 plus to do the tanking, it is the key to success.

This was fun! Last night me (41 SMN), another SMN (level 45), a 55 RNG, and a high 50s BLM did this. It seems only one SMN needs to trade the pendulum to the crystal. After we fought it for me, it wouldn't let the other SMN start the battle. He traded the pendulum to the crystal and we all entered... Turns out it was the Titan Prime battle! >_< We zoned out of it in a hurry though. LOL

Anyway, we were both able to successfully complete the quest having just fought the battle once. Just in case anyone was wondering. ^^;;
Solo with AF?

COuld I say as a lvl 41 SMN solo it with Astro Flow ability?
#REDACTED, Posted: May 07 2004 at 6:09 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) OMG this af1 is so easy to get. The enemy you have to beat is a "slime" monster (like argus). Ok... you can't beat him alone at level 41. You need only one more member 60+, or maybe some lower to beat this thing.

Remember kids, rate down moronic posts that claim something that was designed for level 41 players as being easy, as long as you bring along level 60 help.

Think of it as community service.

To clarify something, the Cloister of Tremors is reached from C-8 on the first map of Quicksands (enter at J-7 of Eastern Altepa Destert). It doesn't show up on the map, you have to drop down at E10 and head west through the unmarked tunnel. Of course it you're a 41 summoner you've already achieved Titan and knew this already, right? ^^/

Not necessarily, you very likely could have got Titan from the mini fork quest, which will just teleport you to the Cloister of Tremors.

By the way, did you keep your Mini Tuning Fork of Earth? If so, you can use it to give you an easy teleport to the Cloister. You'll have to wait for the rest of the pt there, but at least you won't have anything to worry about :P.
info

damn it is hard to get solid info about this crap...had to find out the hard way

cloister of tremors is in quicksand caves at the enterance in EASTERN ALTEPA DESERT, SE of the teleport-altep or a little bit NORTH of the quicksand caves ESCAPE point. J-7 i think. once inside quicksand, head in and take the first drop off to the LEFT, then keep going and stay to the RIGHT wall until you get to another drop off area, take the RIGHT drop off, head down this path and it will take you to the cloister.

now for the PT and strength info. ONLY the SMN needs to have this quest. its like any normal burning circle type zone, the person with the quest goes in, then the icon appears for all PT members, they click the protocrystal, and they can join in on the fight to help out. people helping DO NOT need to have the quest, as long as 1 person has it and can get in.

the monster is VERY WEAK to any high level player. we went in with MAJOR overkill and i probably could have solo'd it. PT was 71 PLD, 70 DRK, 62 SAM, 68 WHM (me) and the level 40 SMN (we were just on the way to hunt for DRK testimony, this PT wasnt formed to do SMN AF1). i'd guess that this fight is no harder than the BLM AF1
One extra step....

I just did this quest last night, and it was infuriating to go to Windurst first because this guide said to...

After the protocrystal battle you have to go to Bastok to talk to Juroro again. After the cutscene there, then you can see Kuro-Muro and get your staff.

1: You trade Earth Pendulum (Not Tuning Fork) to the Earth Protocrystal.
2: You don't touch the protocrystal again to receive a key item. Just leave once you're done.
