Summary

According to the words of Carbuncle, the thief that is stealing the avatars' energy from adventurers is currently in Bastok. You must travel to Bastok to confront the situation.

Walkthrough

Go to the House of the Hero in Windurst Walls and speak to Carbuncle.

Then go to Port Bastok and talk to Juroro at I-8. He gives you the Earth Pendulum and tells you to travel to the Quicksand Caves in Altepa Desert.

Within the Quicksand Caves, you will need to make your way to the Cloister of Tremors at C-8. Within the Cloister of Tremors you will see an Earth Protocrystal.

Trade the Earth Pendulum to the Earth Protocrystal. A short cut scene will take place. After the scene ends you find yourself in the battlefield. You have 30 minutes to kill the NM Galgalim that spawns at the top of the ramp.

After you kill the NM, return to Bastok and talk to Juroro.

Return to Windurst Walls and talk to Koru-Moru at E-7 to receive your Kukulcan's Staff.

Question~
# Sep 30 2009 at 7:22 AM Rating: Decent
I am guessing your dragoon is 75.. I would go with that. Galgalim casts Blizzard 2 and Waterga 2. You can easily solo this with DRG without even needing Healing Breath, however at level 51 you may have trouble even with the Carby kiting strategy. Good luck d(^_^*)
New xp bands?

Does anyone know if the new exp bands have come out with the larger exp points bonus? I cant get on the game yet to check -.-

Can my Summoner beat the NM at level 51 or should I go on my Dragoon? >_>
solo'ed with Keeneardsteffi
# Apr 20 2009 at 4:27 AM Rating: Decent
Went with my trusty pet Keenearedsteffi. sent him in first and healed him twice, then sortly after he died just enought time for me to run back down to the bottom to recast another one of him. Then we both took him on since he was was below half way dead and my pet was the paladin, in a way because he never once turn to me and it was over in about 6 mins.. not a recored but no damage to me. so couldn't ask for anything better. so good luck to ya Oh I was a 55bst/whmg cast bar par.. never needed it since he never turned to me tho...

3 mins as a 75drk/nin his spikes were all that did damage to me....and it totalled at 24damage
ok >.>
# May 21 2007 at 10:13 PM Rating: Decent
-Ok so for the sake of stupidity I went and tried this as level 49Smn/whm ... ... yeah got him to about 75% and died befor getting even one Astral off >.>
-Pulled out my level 75 Whm/ gimped 27 Nin darksteel maul as main weapon and a Lilith's rod as off hand
-Buffed up with Protect and Shell 5, SS, utsusemi: ichi, RR3
-It was total pwnage kept the little bugger silanced (except for the few spells he got off while I was casting silance) paralized and slowed. my Lilith's rod kicked in 4 times for about 23 mp each time. 3 hexa-strike and one black halo at 100tp and it bit the dust 8 min 52 sec. I never cast one offensive or dot spell.

All in all this mob was TOO WEAK. So if you have a level 75 friend you will have this fight done in ten min or less.
I just wish the prime avatars were that easy for a whm to solo >.>
too darn weak

Your current job must be set to 40+ SMN to OPEN the quest, but you can enter the BCNM as any job you'd like. I went with a friend who opened the quest as a 40SMN but came into the BCNM as a WHM, so I know it can be done. ^^

51 solo
# Oct 14 2006 at 4:54 PM Rating: Decent
i just attempted this fight solo as a 51smn/25whm.

it was a piece of cake with free carbuncle, however i ran out of time, JUST before he died.

do not try the 3AF approach at the start of the fight. if you're in the low 50's. he's got a lot of HP and 3 AFs will not take him down.

i kited him for a looooonngg time. tossing in a few poison nails, however be careful when doing this... if you use too many BPs around him, it makes it much harder for carby to get hate back when you resummon. so i kited him until about 15-20% hp, then i started my AF's. Searing Light did 555, and Judgement Bolt did 593. the 2nd AF got him down to just a sliver of HP, i could barely see it... however before Ramuh could finish meleeing him down i ran out of time.

so, can a 51smn solo this fight? i would say yes, but you need to really watch the clock.. i'm just gonna grab a SMN friend to duo this with me instead of racing the clock again.

hope this helped.

-cheers

Just did this on BLM 75, I currently hold the record on Lakshmi for 3 minutes 45 seconds.

Just Casted Stoneskin and Tier 4 spells, and let it do whatever, no paralysis, and it maybe took off 100 damage after the 1st (and only) stoneskin wore.

Just solo'd this as 63 DRK with 26 WHM sub. It was very easy. Mob was hitting for around 10-15 a time, compared to the 200ish I was doing to it. Occasionally it hit for around 40 and managed to succesfully paralise me once. I think I actually did more damage to myself with <Souleater> >> <Last Resort> >> <Guilotine> than the mob did over the whole fight. The biggest pain is definatly all the running around.

did this right now as a WAR75.. landed a 1255 rampage on the hecteye... it's almost pathetic, if you fail at this quest.. u have literally failed at life itself, please commit suicide and end your life. The only difficult thing about this quest is the traveling (it gets annoying) from Windy walls.. to port bastok.. to Cloister of Tremors back to bastok, from bastok back to windy.. lots of traveling once u add up the Airship wait time.. and what not unless u can tele yourself around or warp or what not.

Did this as 67 BLM today, solo, just me, normal gear, and a Mahogany Pole +1. This is easily soloable by any BLM 56 or higher. Why 56? Because (if you sub WHM) you have Stoneskin. First off, if you try and nuke this guy to death, you'll run out of MP because of his rediculous amount of health; My Aeroga III did 859 and didn't do enough substantial damage for the MP cost. The best way to beat him, as BLM, it DoT and poke him to death with a staff (a HARD-HITTING staff, mind you, like the pole variety). I Stoneskin'd, Blink'd, and Ice Spike'd, and kept him Silenced, paralyzed, and Bio'd (after the first cast of Bio, I never recasted, so it wasn't a big factor). Did Earth Crusher at every 100% TP, and it was over. Granted, my time was 9 minutes, 13 seconds, Cerberus' record was only 10 seconds faster. Just watch for his spells, stun anything that comes you way when you don't have Stoneskin up, and poke him into submission! Show 'em we BLMs aren't -completely- made of paper. >_>;; Things are always easy when level 75s babysit, but those who get out and try it themselves accomplish much more, and can appreciate themselves and their jobs more. ^_^

Just solod as BRD75, took a few minutes but he never even got me into the yellow. He seems to have a lot of HP.
Waaay too easy

To get to the Cloister = take a left at first drop, then just hug the right wall.

Solo'd this many times as 71PLD/35NIN. Never went through shadows, casts Spikes, and a few level II-III spells, nothing that big, silenceable(40SMN silenced it after 4 consecuative times).

As for the weapon itself, not very good, I'm a 62 SMN now, but basically what I'd do is use a Himmel Stock, cast Blink(-20MP) and then switch to the staff for quick BP's.
Got it for my SMN :)

I went to solo it as I was lfp for my WHM and recently got SMN to 40 for CoP missions. Got to the place np and went in. I kept all my buffs on and all the enfeebles on at all times (cause I'm overly cautious) :P it was an easy fight. Broke through stoneskin 3 times, but Hexa Strike and some powerful divine spells had it crying. 8 1/2 minutes fight for me, but like I said, I was overly cautious. WHM Power! (b'')b

It wasn't hard. But I didn't expect a hect eye type mob... it kept me paralyze for a long while -.- annoying at best.

Unless you missed putting a step in your post, you have in fact missed a step. After Nm fight go back to Bastok and talk to taru again. Then go back to windy. And there is no reason why you can't farm. Whm aren't as inept as most people think they are.

I notice that most people who posted here saying it was "easy" had someone lvl60+ to help them ~ well *yeah* of course it's easy then XD it's a lvl 44 mob.

Anyway ~ for the further information of people reading this forum, 3 of my linkshell members beat it today in a party that was:

pld/war 52 (thats me!)
whm/war 43
smn/whm 41 (who needed it)

And it wasn't "easy". everyone 2hred ~ but we did beat it.. but we all ran out mp towards to end (we had all come equiped with yag drinks) and it got a bit tense.

Death Ray was spammed... a *lot*... and it gives a paralyze effect (I missed 4 vokes in a row because of this >.<) and did an avergae of 150 damage.
It also got off a couple of Fire II spells which did about 300 damage each (ouch!) try and keep this thing silenced.

Levathian was our 2hring avatar, and 3 astral flow moves did approximately 600 damage each (I hope that answers your question about can a smn solo it ~ from above).

This thing has a *lot* of hp ~ no wonder we all ran out of mp before the end, with nearly-no damage. It took us 8 minutes. I think the addition of a lvl40 or above blm or melee DD would have halved that.

(congrats on your af1 daz ^.-b)

Easy.

Solod this as 75RDM/NIN in 3 minutes.
Buffed up, went in engaged him melee hit him with the standard debuff set and just took him down. Can be silenced, gravitied, and misses a lvl 75 a lot. Anyone with a lv 75 job can solo this with no trouble.
