Soloable as a 75 war/nin (Maneater/Joyeuse) using only +22 in evasion gears (O-Hat + Askar Korazin) using the most basic of WAR tatics (kill them before they kill you!).

I used opo and slept to 100TP. Ate coeural sub, use berserk, warcry, retaliation and mighty strikes. 1st Rampage took down 1 Dryad. Ate a icarus wing and 2nd rampage took down another Dryad. Melee to 100TP and by then, 3rd Dryad is almost dead. Melee the 3rd to death. Rampage took the 4th Dryad to about 20% HP and it dies soon after. The rest are easy. From the time I start engage to the time I won took < 3 mins as my berserk is still up when I won.

Their accuracies are terrible. I took 22 hits out of a total of 104 dispite a WAR's brick-like evasion. Each hit is about 45 damage. Didn't even bother to recast shadows once the 1st 3 are taken away. Have about 500Hp left when I won as I used a couple of hi-pots just to be safe. I guess I could have easily gone as WAR/SAM and saved the cash I spent on sleeping pots and icarus wing.

Overall not a difficult fight.

i just did this solo as 70 smn (accidently threw away pants -.-)
Anyway i was gonna ask some ppl to help but i wanted to see if i could solo first
i go Smn70/Blm33 (so i can be cheap and warp myself)
i cast stoneskine and blink with the avatars and go in
I use ifrit and out of curiosity i do Flameing Crush and 1 shot one of the saplings. then i use 2h and i was able to make them all go to like 20% they kill ifrit so i recast ifrit and do another inferno kill the remaing right there
ALOT easier than it was when i had my bro BST 75 solo it lol

Icredibly easy for a BST75/NIN37 to solo. Took a Panzer Galahad with me, Familiar, sent him in first to let them aggro all, then I helped him finish them off one by one. I was not hit once and pet had half of his life left. Could probably solo with CourierCarrie too.

Beat them as 75WHM/35BLM
Decided to use underleveled sub for the sleepga, and the elemental seal, which proved useful.

Got caught out twice in this fight, and didn't go in fully prepared.

First time caught out was casting stoneskin and a sprout smack landed and the push back effect stopped my casting of stoneskin.
Second time I got caught out was when I ran out of MP, with 3 mobs left to fight (1 almost dead). Was fighting using hexa strike and Black halo towards the end, but had been using the AoE on staff attacks and sleepga in combos (building TP, whacking WS out and sleepga again)

Using stoneskin because my MND is astacked so high... 66 base MND +43 MND with Mushroow Stew.

Was swapping between MND gear and evasion gear... evasion gear totalling 31 when I needed to evade for longer periods of time. Very handy for evading when stoneskin needed to be recast.

Forgot to take MP drinks with me, and was too lazy to warp back and get them. Would have made things a lot less risky.

Mobs don't sleep for long, some always managed to resist.... The elemental seal + sleepga held them all for about 1 minute, perfect to run away and rest for MP, they all brok free of the spell at the same time afterwards.

Fight took 19 minutes, would have been faster if i took MP drinks. came close to death twice, so watch out, you might have to benediction in the early stages if the mobs interupt spells too much. Probably better to stick to clubs for the higher damage with the WS rather than the AoE of staves.
Was a purely melee based fight with sleepga and the occasional bind (last part), didn't use MP on -ga spells.

Would suggest that you stack as much evasion as possible, make use of stoneskin and stick to using club for the higher individual damage on a mob (assuming the others are asleep)

i tried using the method described here to pull one dryad at a time (sneak yourself, assault one of the dryads, and release the avatar before it dies for aggro from only one dryad) and i can confirm that it does not work. as soon as we started doing damage to the one i pulled, all of the others started moving in from the top of the level (we were at the lower part of the bend)

the only thing i can think of that might make a differance is MAYBE if the person who did the pulling did not attack the dryad that they pulled, it might not cause the other five to attack.

but i doubt it :D

I aggroed them by accident - forgot to sneak up. Once Garuda Astral Flowed, they stuck to it and never attacked me again. As you can see, they simply could not hit Garuda, and I didn't have to re-summon it. At the end, I just had Garuda melee the last two Dryads down instead of a third AF.

Just did this fight as a 66 RDM/BLU (me) and a 50 SMN.

I was a bit worried about this fight, since LillenOfHades claims a 67 RDM can't solo it, and I see everyone taking these big parties with at least one 70+. Besides, tanking six mobs sounded difficult. I figured I'd get interrupted a lot. (I know someone else said a 64 RDM or so could do it easily, but I didn't read most of the second page until after the fight.) It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

I ate tacos and geared for defense, although my defense gearset wasn't great. I think I had 400-something defense; Cocoon helped a lot with that. ;D Hearing that SMN two-hour was great against these, I asked the SMN to two-hour. The response: "I can 2hr once but no drinks x.x" I found that funny. "No drinks? No problem!" I said. "You're talking to a RDM with 60 cooking." I just so happen to carry Yagudo drink ingredients everywhere. XD

As soon as we got in, I cast Protect, Shell, Blink and Stoneskin, then rested to full. I ran up to the "crack" and cast all my other buffs, then just ran in. Now that I think about it, I should've enfeebled them, but for some reason I didn't think of it at the time. The first thing I noticed was that their accuracy was terrible. First thing I saw was every one of them missing me.

Then I remembered my plan had been to cast Blastbomb, as Sabaron said it would work great even as RDM/BLU. (I was forgetting everything >_< Avatar battlefields always make me nervous...) So I cast it and ran. It didn't work as well as he'd said, but it wasn't bad. Turned out I didn't really need it. That's when the SMN two-houred. 807 damage to all of them. >:D We won shortly after the second Inferno went off.

The point of all this is yes, Aleko! (and any other RDMs wondering this in the future ^^) You can solo it. It was actually pretty easy; I don't think I needed the taco.

No, ppl make it sound so easy as they soloed it @ 75. This is the catch, you'll most certainly need utsu ni for this fight if you're gonna solo. I went in as BRD 70 with my bro WAR 70 and we wiped. Mainly because even if we did sleep them, they didn't sleep for long. I don't think you should try soloing this before 74.

SMN 75 Solo with Ramuh using Thunderspark
#DragonIrons, Posted: Feb 07 2007 at 8:25 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I just redid this (75 Smn/whm)cause i've upgraded af1 boots to af+1, had to clear all the quests with the npc in Jueno, and toss out staff and spats in order to do those quests again to have them cleared in order to go to Tor. Canal and get my reg boots back (so i can toss it all back on the storage NPC). Already did the staff again, and just owned this... Point of this post is this... Somone posted somewhere below that u can carby pull each one as long as you're sneaked.. then somone else posted they had problems carby pulling, but that they weren't sneaked and was wondering if that was the problem. Well... I buffed up, ran up, sneaked & cast Ramuh (thunderspark owns on this), then i ran right into the middle of all of them. No aggro.... however, as SOON as i hit Assault on one of the dryads, they all hit ramuh, so i hit Thunderspark. 400 dmg to all, paralyzed real well, 1/3 their HP gone. You CAN run up sneaked, but they'll all link soon as you hit one. As far as carby pulling one to the bottom... i don't know if they'll all come for you. They definitely will if u Assault one then hit RETREAT (cause they'll all be hitting carby like they were all on my ramuh). If you hit assault, run down, and Release... idk. They may all come for you, then again maybe not, i wouldn't try it (releasing...) unless you're ready to get out fast (or u got some help, or high enough to take some hits [if they hit u at all]. But if you're high enough (i still had over 1/2 my mp at the end), just thunderspark em. Oh and btw, when i was leveling Smn... I soloed ALL of the Smn af on 75 Pld/nin. Except for the head piece (the first fight anyway....) Ls Rdm came to help me, and cure.

This NM is incredibly easy. The Dryads are highly susceptible to Bind. Party:

50SMN/25WHM
69WAR/34NIN
71BLM/35WHM
61RDM/30BLU (me)

I threw Blastbomb praying that I would get at least a couple of them to stay put for a second... They all bound...for the entire duration of the fight--from a Blastbomb on BLU sub level 30. SMN Astral Flowed and only needed 1 pact. They were finished off by -ga and meleeing.

Just did this for my SMN AF Legs. Party setup was like this...

WHM75/BLM37
SMN52/WHM26 (me)
RDM47/WHM23

Our plan was to let the WHM go in and ES + Sleepga on the mobs. That went bad as only two of them got slept. He then started to cast Paralyze and Slow on them. Well, they all woke up and came at him. Before we knew it, they ate up his SS. He then attempted to cast another Sleepga, only this time we get 6 "The Dryad resists the effects of the spell!" on our screen.

Seeing how fast they tore through his SS we decide I need to 2hr. I Astral Flow, MRDM casts Refresh on me, summon Ifrit since they are weak to Fire, and let them have it. It was a good thing to have a refresher with us, and I packed some hi-ethers just in case. Popped an ether while I waited for my BP to recharge, WHM did his best to keep SS up, RDM did her best to keep us refreshed.

Two more Infernos later and all the weeds are dead. We also beat the server record on Bahamut with a time of 6m 41s!! We rejoyced and then went straight to Windurst to pick up my new pants!! I look pretty smooth now!!

For those who are going to attempt this for your AF legs, people are not lying when they say they resist sleep pretty well. It was pretty tough with this party setup but we managed to pull it off without any deaths. It was kinda funny considering that you can take up to 18 people inside this fight, yet we did it with only 3. Good luck to anyone going for their SMN AF legs!!

Okay here's the thing. YOU /DO/ NEED TO TALK TO FUEPEPE AND FORAKKU-NORAKKU.

If you do it BEFORE the fight, then you go straight to Koru-w/e for the spats, if you DID NOT TALK TO THEM BEFORE THE FIGHT, you /MUST/ talk to them before talking to the guy who gives you the spats. They MUST be spoken to in order to get them.

despite the bad stories on here tried to solo this whm/nin, first time didnt go great but second I used my mp a bit more wisely and worked out, I have pretty pimped out melee gear (o hat, rev. mail, purgatory mace, dmg-cape etc) went in Diaga'd them, ran halfway down the ramp and proceeded to take them off one by one, hitting them and getting tp from them hitting me, hexa striking, and repeating. putting up Ni when the timer was down, would cure IV myself whenever I got half - 1/4 hp, they miss alot. ended up 2hring near the end, but made it out with half hp and enough for a cure II.

solo'd this as rdm70/pld35, i was planning on going as rdm/smn and have carby pull, but after reading someone's post here it seems like carby pull won't work on them.

equipments:
full set af except body
jaridah peti
amemet mantle
wise wizard's anelace
rest at all regular exp gear.

item:
bream sushi
scroll of reraise

my original tactic was go in and sleep1 sleep2 bind three of them,
and fight the other three...
but sleep2 was resisted and sleep1 was half resisted, so i end up fighting all 6 of them.

the whole fight was pretty much: recast stoneskin, phalanx, ice spikes, and refresh. circle blade as soon as i get 100tp, does around 60~80 damage on each one of them, diaga a few times. just make sure you have stoneskin + phalanx + ice spikes + refresh on at all times.

i had to convert after i killed the 3rd dryad, just make sure you have a fresh stoneskin and there won't be any danger. after that i started using spirit within instead of circle blade. at this point the fight was pretty boring.

these dryads don't hit really hard, and doesn't have high def either, just seems to have a lot of hp. i was going to use rune blade (latend effect:DMG43 DEX+5, drains 4mp/tick), basically i won't have any refresh. i don't think i would have that much mp to spare.

Did this last night. Set up was:

72 Blm/Whm
66 Rdm/Blm
52 Smn/Whm (me)

I Blink-ga'd and Stoneskin-ga'd us before we went in. Blm ran up the hill and took the aggro. I got Ifrit out and just as the Blm used Firaga III (605 damage to all 6), I used Astral Flow and Inferno (834 damage to all 6). Blm then used Sleepga while the Rdm cast Firaga & Blizzaga (for 116 & 183 damage to all 6) sleepga was fairly pointless and a waste of time I recon. Blm then cast Waterga III (465 damage to all 6) and that was them dead.

We set a new record on Bismark of 2 min 59 seconds.

If your doing this Summoners, then definatley use Astral Flow. An added bonus (on top the uber damage) is that Ifrit took most of the aggro and surprisingly didn't die. He was still up after the cut-scene.

I think 2 level 50ish summoners could probably duo this. Just stagger each Inferno so that one hits every 30 seconds. If the second one doesnt kill them, the third definalty will.

I just did this today for my spats. Did everything like the guide shows up till the bc fight. Solo'd it on my 75BLM. But i think the order they have listed after, is wrong.

I went back to windy after the BC fight talked to Fuepepe he gave me his normal chat about students, and did nothing when trading him the pendulum. Then i talked to Furakku-Norakku same thing, normal text.

So i think you only have to talk to Koru-Moru, cus soon as i talked to him, i got my spats.

Hope this helps anyone that may be confussed, like i was at first at this part.

A little less run-around for a quest with far too much of it.

Just did this as 75BLM/37RDM. Very easy.

Buffed up (stoneskin/blink/phalanx/shock spikes/protect II/shell II), rested to full, traded and entered.

They aggro'ed before I even got to the top of the hill overlooking their spawn point, thundaga III'ed them, followed with blizzaga III, followed with firaga III for win.

When they broke through stoneskin (as I was casting firaga III) they ended up hitting me for about 25 damage a swing (VIT59, 302 defense, phalanx from 200 enhancing magic), and missed plenty.

I was expecting to use Manafont to have enough mp and to not get interrupted, but it worked out. Good day to be a taru, I guess.

They resisted blizzard quite a bit, and I'd guess they have about 1.5k hp each.

Ok, so the quest is supposedly repeatable, however... I'm only a 51 summoner, and i finished this quest -long- ago.

I went to the House, but I managed to pick up the AF3 quest. go figure.

Do you have to complete those 3, then restart AF1 to do AF2? or am I talking to the wrong NPC's? Shantoto doesn't say anything, neither did the other NPC's.

has anyone actually redone this quest?

in order to repeat this quest I think you have to hold on to the pendulum and trade it to the cloister again. so you can't really repeat the whole quest, just the battle and maybe the reward if you dropped them for some reason.

There isn't an NPC. Just go the House of the Hero and get the cutscene. Then talk to the NPCs listed above in the order

Soloed this fight as WHM/BLM 75, not for the faint-hearted though. Possibly the closest fight I've ever had, without capped Enhancing Magic I'd have got screwed, because I just had to take the battering from all six of them while constantly recasting Stoneskin after Elemental Seal and Sleepga faded, couldn't make it stick again. Benediction was used, I also had Optical Hat, Reverend Mail, Life Belt, Noble's Tunic, Earth Staff, used sushi and a couple of Yagudo drinks. Fight took exactly 15 minutes, so soloable for a WHM75 with good gear and a sizeable dollop of luck. Bear in mind at one point I had no two hour left, no MP and only 70hp remaining. If Spirit Taker hadn't landed then, I'd have been dead, so take care. :P

It's actually not as hard as I was afraid it might be. I had the O Hat, Reverend Mail, and Genbu shield, which is a hefty chunk of evasion... plus a few merits on spell interruption down.

I opened with a regular sleepga... only half the saplings slept, so when it was up again I used my ES and tried again. That got them all to sleep, but what I noticed was that whenever I successfully killed one sapling, all the sleeping ones immediately woke up. I have a 75 rdm friend who did this with sleepga 2 and capped enfeebling and he didn't have the same problem.

The saplings, without ES, are about 50% on sleeping with Sleepga 1 with blm sub. With the gear I stated, or equivalents, you should miss a pretty high number of their attacks when they mob you. Make sure you keep aquaveil up, and for me at least spell interruption was no problem when stoneskin went down. (I do macro in stoneskin helping gear when I cast it, like my AF2 shoes, errant hpl, etc-- so I think that helps too).

Saplings each took about 2 hexa strikes a piece to finish off.

I used two yagudo drinks at the start to be on the safe side, but my MP never got below 50% and I didn't have to two hour.

If you don't necessarily have all that EVA gear, you can always use some + evasion food.... such as jack o lanterns or something. Evasion is your friend if you want to solo this one, because sleeping them isn't. ><

75WHM/BLM

WHM casted stoneskin & Blink, I ran in to take hate, BLM did ES+ Sleepga, and we took them off one by one, they have very low HP, my Vorpal Blades would take about half out.

Yes : you can go as any job.

just solo'd this as 75 blm/whm taru and set the record at 1:52 clear time lol...went on thundersday for max thundaga 3 dmg (thunder obi + af2 legs + merits). you can buff before entering the arena...i used: pro/shell 2, blink, stoneskin, ice spikes, aquaviel, and a tavnazian taco for food...also went half hp gear with bq ring + bloodbead ear (since i'm taru). cast sneak > run to mobs > es + thundaga 3 > manafont > blizzaga 3 ...and they were all dead. they never got through my stoneskin but i'd still recommend using manafont just in case for no interruptions... hope this helps any blms who decide to level smn as an alternate job^^

Sneak Pulling

I did this one the other night for a friend. We were going to duo it with a 60BST and 55SMN, but he got some more help while I was doing quests. After that, we had an overkill party with a high 60's BLM, 75RDM, 73THF, me (60BST) and the 55SMN.

However, that's not the point of this post. I know if can be difficult to find people for AF let alone travel to Fei'Yin. The people I went with were kind enough to let me see if I could sneak pull the Dryads. That is: cast Sneak, run up to a group of mobs or mob and not get aggro. Then Pet pull them (send Pet to attack, let Pet get hate and link all the linking mobs around, release the Pet and only the mob you attacked comes for you). This is difficult for a BST in a place where we have to use Jug Pets due to the recast timer on Jug Pets. A SMN combining the two however is perfect here as they can Pet Pull with Sneak and grab one Dryad at a time providing this AF Quest works by the same guidlines as a normal battle.

NOTE. Read first before reading any farther please:

You can Sneak and run up to the ArchLich in Mission 5-1, but once you attack the ArchLich or one of the guards, the hate of all mobs is on your Pet. Once you release your Pet or your Pet dies, all the hate that was on your Pet is now on you. Hate in 5-1 works as one entity for all the mobs in this initial engagement. The samething might apply here, but I don't think it does. I didn't get the chance to actually try and Sneak pull these. If hate works like it does in 5-1 for all 6 Dryads, this till not work. However, if it doesn't, and you can Pet Pull these using traditional Pet Pulling mechanics, this AF Quest is a cakewalk for a BST and a SMN.

Anyway, I went up to the Dryads with Sneak and ran around them and they didn't aggro me (I heard they're aggro, but I cannot confirm that; I can confirm they link though). I sent my Pet FunguarFamiliar to attack one. My FunguarFamiliar averaged about 140 damage per hit with quite a few double attack. I hit for 45-70 damage as a 60BST/WHM.

These can easily be duo'd by a 60BST and a 55SMN. Just sneak the SMN and have them Pet pull the Dryads one at a time. There will be no downtime because the BST and SMN would make short work of one Dryad very, very quickly and the BST's Pet will keep hate. Wash, Rinse, Repeat 5 more times to finish off the rest of the Dryads. In fact, with a little effort, these can be duo'd with a Lv52BST and Lv52SMN. At Lv62, it will likely take the BST at least 2 Jug Pets to take down all 6 Dryads because the Pet will tank, but these are NOT that tough one-on-one.

So, don't be afraid to try this out. A 52SMN and any 52 melee could probably do this quest if you can Sneak Pull the Dryads. These Dryads fight like they're DC.

Good luck and hope this was somewhat helpful.

I tried this today, twice, and we died both times.

Each time I pulled the Dryad, it came down alone, but about 5-10 seconds after it arrived, the other 5 Dryads also came running down to attack me. They all attacked me, even though I had done nothing to them.

I did not have sneak on when I pet pulled. I'm not sure if this was the problem or not, as I wasn't in aggro range when I commanded carby to assault.

They weren't tough one on one, however, when they all attacked us, it wasn't so good.

Can anyone confirm that sneak was my problem in this? I think maybe the same thing applies in this mission as in 5-1.

It's a shame, it'll be hard to get enough help for this.

Just a question about this quest. The other day I finished my af1 quest and went to begin flagging this one.

However every time I "talk" to the House of the Hero door, I get "You can feel something powerful. Perhaps its best to not open the door"

Any clue on why this is happening and not giving me a carbuncles tear?
