Description

Laisrean asks you to fetch an item for him in Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have your Silver beastcoin, then enter the Sea Serpent Grotto from Yhutanga Jungle. Take every left you come to. Eventually you will get to an Ornamented Door. That means you're going the right way. Take a left when you get to the door. Continue down this path and take the next left you find. You will arrive at a room with a large puddle and a waterfall. Continue moving straight until you find an unmarked door. Examine this door until you get the message, "You see some silver shavings near the indent on this wall." Trade your silver beastcoin to open the door.

You will be greeted by some pugils when you open the door. Move forward without falling off of any ledges. When you arrive in the room at (H-8), hop off the ledge. Move through this path. You will get to a room identical to the one you just fell from. Keep going forward and you will arrive at the unmarked door to the treasure room. Examine the ??? to recieve the Sea Serpent Statue. Return to Laisrean with the item after the cutscene.

I don't know how many yagudo necklaces I have done but I know I have done 17 zinc ores, tonko and kurayami quest, NIN and SAM flag, riceballs are 155 for me but I still can't get the quest. It's very tough for someone like me (who has ADHD) to concentrate on farming one item over and over again, it's feeling more of a chore now. I am trying to activate the quest on my 37SAM but Laisrean keeps saying the same thing about finding items far and wide or some bullsh*t.
Help?

EDIT: Turned in about 28 more necklaces, can do it now

Just to clear a few things up.

It says here min level 1 this is wrong. SE must have changed this to keep RMT from doing this quest on level 1 characters.

I took a mule to level 30 using my anniversary ring just to do this quest.

First of all I had max fame in windy and no fame anywhere else on this mule.

I traded exactly 200 yag necklaces then headed to norg. After doing the rusty armor quests I was able to flag this.

I then changed to a level 1 job and followed the walk through to get to the room with the ???.

What I needed was 7 silent oils to get there and back.

When I returned I tried to finish the quest but all I got was some gibberish from the NPC. After trying 4 times I finally figured it out.

I changed back to the level 30 job and was able to finish the quest.

To sum it up you HAVE to be on something other then a level 1 job to flag this and to finish the quest. I can't say what level is needed but a level 30 can do it now.

Hope this helps

I have 4 fame from the avatar fights I did. The fame was hard to get but it's not anywhere near as hard as you all seem to think... I raised my windy fame first then traded necklaces. I took about 15k.

I'll try to solve the mystery to what fame is needed.

What I can tell you is this in caps....MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE ON AT LEAST A LEVEL 30 JOB TO GET THIS QUEST. I bound in Norg and have been handing in 32 zinc ore in Bastok then blood porting back and trying for quest. After 144 Zinc Ore, 36 Yagudo Necklaces and Dok/Kur scroll quest I'm at Rank 5 fame, but on a level 1 job (the one I blood ported in on) was unable to get quest. Finally I checked the required fame level and it is Rank 4.

Recap

1) Be on your primary job
2) 144 Zink Ore (72,000 Gil) + 36 Yagudo Necklaces (18,000 Gil) + Dokumori (15,000 Gil) and Kurayami (5000 Gil) scroll quests = Rank 5 Fame (110,000 Total)

Turned in 40 yag necklaces and 101 zinc ore(first turn in of one ore, plus 25 turn-ins of 4 ore each)and finished the NIN flag quest before I even checked norg fame (aside from once before I started questing for fame)... and this was enough to get me the utsusemi quest :) I started from 0 norg fame and I am absolutely sure of this. I did NOT do any of the other scroll quests
before this one. Not sure if it matters, but I did join tenshodo via Tenshodo Invite before I got the quest. I used 9 silent oils throughout the duration of this quest, not including the initial trip to norg to get the quest in the first place. Thanks a lot for the map which was linked earlier in the thread by Nethesem :) The ONLY reason I got out was because of that map. I would have had to bloodport otherwise, and that would have de-leveled me. SOOOO glad to finally have this done. Thank you all for the very helpful tips, and for the walkthrough^^

This is no doubt one of the easiest quests ever, the only hard part is getting the fame.

EASY

First cast sneak on you(Entering form Yuhtunga Jungle), than hug the left wall until you see the silber beastcoin door. Examine it until it says the say exact same over and over.
Quote:
NOTE: That it barley changes everytime.(posibley by just a ".")

Than you are going to want to hug the left wall the first drop off you see do not drop off of it. Keep going and you will see a drop off to the right, walk off of it. Than hug the right wall droping off no edges going north. enter the room and touch the ??? and you will get a CS.
remember to keep sneak on.

  • Silver Beastcoin
  • is all that is needed.

  • Mythril Beastcoin
  • is not needed.

Didn't qualify for this when rice balls were 160 ( which I thought was the bottom bracket for level 4 fame), I did two more norg quests, still not enough, so went all the way back to windhurst and handed in another 28 yag necklaces, brining rice balls down to 156. Was then offered the quest.

Just to clarify, you DO NOT need a mythril beastcoin for this, but I highly recommend having this map (http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/maps/sea_serpent_grotto/general/) to hand, so you can find your way back. Use the one-way A link between maps to go round the Silver door on your return path.

Take note that you have to click on the unmarked Silver Door repeatedly before it will say 'found traces of silver', and then you can trade the silver beastcoin.

Also note that contrary to what Laisrean tells you, it's a fair way into the cave, and you will encounter Sea Monks that were EP-- to me as a 65 SAM. That being said, I walked right on through with no aggro.

Once you get the fame, doing the actual quest is easy. Chainspell posted a nie map/guide link in another thread:

    http://www.linkshells.org/forums/thr...amp;start=1

With this map, I was able to do this quest as a level 1 rdm with silent oils and prism powders. The prism powders were probably unneccessary too, since most, if not all of the mobs, aggro to sound in this area.

I kept a count on my new character, 208 Necklaces got me level 3 fame which was not enough for Utsusemi, after trading 10 Rusty Subligar and completing that one quest I now had level 4 fame and enough to do the Utsusemi quest.

i've done this quest about 8 times now, i can do it with no map easily, of course my first time was kind of a pain but i got through it.

I have an account with my g/f's 75blm and i've had about 10 char's on it, then my account with my thf, i always use my thf to farm the necklaces, never tried it the zinc ore route, anyways you need to trade roughly 170-180 necklaces, you start with dokumori, and Kurayami quests which are done by trading 10 rusty legging and 10 rusty subligars which should give you enough fame to do tonko quest, you go to storage room, get box, turn in quest, should be enough for hojo quest, go to jungle, find ???, turn in quest, then jubaku quest will be unlocked, go buy damp scroll, head to horlais, dip in water, turn in quest, then finally utsusemi ichi will be unlocked.

first 5 or 6 times i did it at really low lvls, i don't remember what lvl, now you need to be lvl 10 i think but i've done it 3 times since update all with lvl 20 just cuz i wanted to use chocobo for hojo ichi.

As there are a LOT of posts on this thread, I didn't read them all so I don't know if this has been mentioned ot not. When I got to the Treasure Room for the cut scene, there was a Shahagin with a long name hiding behind some boxes there (as well as one Sea Bonze, but was too weak to my 68 WHM). I tried to click on it, but no matter how close I got, I would keep getting the "Target out of range" message. When I found the ???, the Shahagin was mentioned in the cut scene, so I think it's just part of the quest and doesn't aggro or anything. The Bonze should be avoided as best you can if you're within aggro level, and it's kind of cramped in that room so you have to be careful.

And contrary to popular belief, raising my norg fame did NOT lower my fame anywhere else. I have hero fame in Bastok, and I checked again after I got level 4 fame in Norg, and it hadn't changed. I believe there is an exception to the rule, though. I read about a smuggling quest that does lower fame elsewhere, but the name escapes me and I hope someone else can chime in and confirm that.

I just wanted to say that after 81 (one to start the Ore quest), I was able to do the other three scroll quests. After completing those quests I was able to do the Utsusemi: Ichi quest. I've heard that 200 Yag necklaces will get you to the same point. So that's:

    81 Zinc Ore

    or

    200 Yag Necklaces

Please reply to this if you were able to do this with less or if for any reason it isn't enough for you. Please keep in mind that SAM quests will also influence Tenshodo fame.

Ahh, so, I've traded 260 yagudo necklaces (heard that 256~ was amount needed) and checked my fame in windy. Turns out it's 1? Enough motivation was killed to log for the night, so now I'm here and wondering if it takes time to tally the fame or something. Even so, I got these beads in a 3 day time period. trading 32-36 every 1.5 hrs or so?.... {Hmmm.} I'm only 34 THF/RNG so getting to Norg is a hassle and would much rather be certain I can flag the quest when I get there.

BUT... after reading a few posts I s'pose I could go to Jeuno and check.. rice ball prices? ...err.... I guess?... still don't understand why my windy fame is only 1.

The fame you want from trading yag necklaces or zinc ores is for Norg (Tenshodo related) fame, NOT Windy fame. To check your fame, you can check the rice ball price in Tenshodo in Lower Jeuno, or head on over to Norg and check there.

Necklaces don't raise Windy fame, they raise Tenshedo fame. Every town has a person in it from the Tenshedo that has a quest to raise fame. It doesn't affect the town's fame though.

Your Windy fame is zero because you haven't done any quests for them yet.

I just went and bought all of the zinc ores I could get my hands on in jeuno and bastok and traded them to tenshodo npc in port bastok. I think I traded 14 times so 56 total zinc ores, checked rice balls again and they were 156, went to norg got quest along with many others. Happy days I can finally start playing my nin again. I just bought and farmed must be about 250 over the last 2 days and the rice balls are now l55 gil from 174!!! i think i had a big starting price or something -.- but anyway im gonna head out to Norg and hope that i have enough fame now. If not im gonna be real f@*ked off, so dont get in my way if u see me!!!

To get enough fame it always helps to have gil i bought about 200 of my yag necklaces and farmed the rest, but in the end i will make profit but having some gil on top helps.

This is now my favorite quest. The reward is huge, and you can get through it w/o doing anything, just get a few silent oils and your set. All my mules have done it, and the profit is astonishing. This is the single greatest quest ever lol

Well, I started off saying this would be a pain in the **** and that I'd never do it. I ended up needing it, so there I was farming yag beads. Took me 4hrs 15mins to farm 218 Yagudo Beads. I went as 50DRK/25THF, I tried to do the Yagudo train trick, but it was actually a waste of my time. I realized that if you walk up to each individual Yagudo and attack them, it actually goes by much quicker since I usually kill them in one hit anyways. All I did was walk through northern part killing all Yagudos, then through the top level of the caves, then to the southern part. Finished up the southern part went back through the caves to the northern part... Just went in a big circle. Made 4 trips, and I was finished a lot sooner than I had thought. Just find a friend to hold on to all your not needed gear. I came fully equipped with nothing else in my inventory but my Linkshell, left me with 43 open slots. Anyways, hope this helped. Good Luck and stay focused, you will be done before you know it.

Here's my research and tips from my point of view. First of all don't buy the scroll from the AH unless you can't do this quest it isn't that time consuming if you buy most of it from the AH. So i started by farming up 50 necks and that took me about 3 hours thus i decided there must be an easeir way to do this. I went back to Jeuno saw that necks were selling for 1k each and so were ores so over the course of playing this game and traveling to bastok and windy several times I would clear out my inventory buy all of jeunos stock in one item and trade them the items. Here I will show you my math.

I turned in about 100 necks and 50 ores. I didn't buy them from the countries cause they were often 2k instead of 1k. So lets say you need to buy 100 necks at 1000gil each that comes out to be 100,000. Now you buy 50 ores at 1000gil each thus being 50,000. Your totaly comes to 150,000. Now the scroll itself is worth 600k on my server so as you can see this is obviously the better less time consuming way to go. But 150k you say! thats too much well in the 3 hours i spent farming those dam necks I could of had 2 stacks of tree cutting which got for 120k on my server. So you have to ask yourself the question is it worth your time to collect these necks over the course of 6-8 hours or buy them and spend you time farming something more profitable?

Oh i didn't want to forget that before you goto Norg atleast bring 10 rusty leggins with you they were only 1k each on my server and the scroll he gives you sells for 130k!!! If you have the room and still need that extra push of fame you can also bring 10 pairs of rusty subligars with you too(these are a bit more expensive but the scroll will pay for the cost if need be). Both of these scrolls sell nicely and seem to give you a lot more fame then 4 necks did. I dunno if that will help you guys much but I try ^^.

somehow i was under the impression that I had to do 33 quests.... i'm not sure who told me that lol. so i turned in 132 zinc ores. the rice balls came down to 150 flat. needless to say, had no trouble doing the quest after that---but i think i spent 40k more than i needed to.

    My Suggestion:

well this quest went fairly esay for me. First off its nice to have anythign 50+ to do this quest. I had my 50 PLD .. . circle blade did wonders for slaughtering 7+ yagudo in one swing. head to giddeus and kill as many as you can. I had a low reserve as fare as money goes but when i got to like 84 necklaces i sad **** on this and went to bastok. did the ore mission gave (bought every single one for 1k) him like 45-50 ores and then checked my riceballs wich where a nice 153. Angels sang when i saw that price. ran to norg and quested. all in all wasnt that bad, took at least 10hrs tho kind of a pain, bt when your done its worth it

Yeah, so I have a tough time navigating Sea Serpent Grotto and just by "coincidence" the only place to get it is in Sea Serpent Grotto itself =P

Here's a link that has a highly detailed map as well as the location of the door where you need to use the Silver Beastcoin:

I farmed zinc ores (very slowly) by killing giant grubs in Dangruf Wadi. I farmed other stuff as well to kill time (may as well make some gil with my lost time). Took me a few weeks, but that was partly because I was getting utsu for my mule.

Not sure how many zinc ores I turned in, but I hit 148 for Rice Balls in Neptune's Spire. Unlocked both the Utsu/Tonko quests. Actually mining up more zinc with another mule.

The instructions on this quest are a bit vague. There's a room before the "large puddle and a waterfall." That has a puddle as well. And the "continue moving straight" is hard when the path you follow leads straight to the mythril door. And the path to the silver door is a left turn.

Still, I sorted it out eventually and gots me my scoll.

Dropped in price on Seraph from 1 mil to 450k as of 9/16/06. So much for getting a Sniper's Ring. Yar.

    Happy hunting.

Because I was stupid and sold all my ninjitsu scrolls, I've redone them all on a mule.

Mule started in Windurst, did no prior quests/missions except for the chocobo quest at level 20 - did NOT have Tenshodo invitation. Bought the airship pass.

Traded exactly 216 yagudo necklaces, which unlocked Tonko, Dokumori, and Kurayami quests. Did Kurayami, which got me enough fame to unlock the other three.

No idea of the price of rice balls.

    One note to anyone doing utsusemi quest as a low level: sahagins aggro through doors ^^;

I'm, or I should say I was a lvl 14 NIN. I got sick of not having shadows. So I got a THF with treasure hunter 2. It took about 3 days, almost 2 or so hours each day to get about 250 necklaces from giddues. I bought about 50-75 of them from the AH.

I went down to the norg and spoke to the guy, I was surprised when I got the quest. thought I didn't have enough fame for it yet...

    This is what I did:

I'm a 61 whm/30 blm. so I zoned into the grotto and casted escape. I went back in and took lefts, and lefts tell I got to that door. Then (facing the door) took another left. Now the tricky part is from there. The guide here wasn't very specific. You'll enter a large area that has a very large pond in the distance, don't mind this area, just go to your left side and enter the nearest cave. Keep going, and you'll see the waterfalls, go inbetween these two waterfalls. And you'll see a door (it's a blank label and doesn't look like a door). Check it once, it wont really say anything... Keep checking it over and over. the message should change. Then place the silver beast coin on it. You'll get it back. Then the door opens.

From what I remember there's one or two ledges, the first one is on the left. So be careful. You'll come up to a large edge (you might see a sea bonzes, they look like sea horrors or gaint squids) This will confirm where you hop off the ledge. there's also a cave to the left of this edge (don't be fooled you don't have to go futher just jump off). go straight, always go straight don't turn anywhere. You'll arrive to another unmarked door (you need to remove invisible) There might be another or maybe two of those sea bonzes. amoung other monsters. Go left and follow the wall for a few steps. You'll see a table that has pots and books. Press on the top of it. The cut scene will begin. When it's over warp your @ss out of there. NOTE: set HP in the norg if you dont have escape. Bring instant warp scrolls.

Talk to the guy from the norg and he gives you the scroll. Sell it from 500k to 1 million or use it. Think carefully, you wont get another chance at it.

Just so you know it doesn't matter what fame you have in Sandy or Jeuno for that mater. This is all tenshodo so you can have hero fame in Sandy, Bastok, Windy and Jeuno and still not get this quest.

I was able to get this quest after trading 100 zinc ores and doing the tonko, dokumori, and kurayami quests. I didn't get norg fame any other way.

I solo'd this quest without one sneak or invisible at lv.59SAM, if you go the right way the only thing that should agro you at this level are the "sea bonze" there are only three of them, all very easy to avoid and never technically in your way. quest was very easy

This quest is really easy actually when:
-Turned in all the necklaces/ores you need for fame to start the first of the few ninjitsu quests.
-You did the the Tonto, Kurayami, Dokumori: Ichi quests.
-Got your trusty stack of oils/sneak
-ffxi-atlas should take care of the rest

This quest doesn't require mythril bstcoin. I went and spent 3k on that. Oh well.
