Description

Laisrean asks you to fetch an item for him in Sea Serpent Grotto. Make sure you have your Silver beastcoin, then enter the Sea Serpent Grotto from Yhutanga Jungle. Take every left you come to. Eventually you will get to an Ornamented Door. That means you're going the right way. Take a left when you get to the door. Continue down this path and take the next left you find. You will arrive at a room with a large puddle and a waterfall. Continue moving straight until you find an unmarked door. Examine this door until you get the message, "You see some silver shavings near the indent on this wall." Trade your silver beastcoin to open the door.

You will be greeted by some pugils when you open the door. Move forward without falling off of any ledges. When you arrive in the room at (H-8), hop off the ledge. Move through this path. You will get to a room identical to the one you just fell from. Keep going forward and you will arrive at the unmarked door to the treasure room. Examine the ??? to recieve the Sea Serpent Statue. Return to Laisrean with the item after the cutscene.

how to get back.
# Sep 10 2004 at 9:48 AM Rating: Good
Ok sorry, it didnt really occour to me to say how to get back, since most people jsut warp out, BUT if you want to make it back alive to norg from the treasure room, do this.

Leave the treasure room and take a right, and fall off the dropoff you passed on the way here (the one I said not to fall off of) Now continue to walk south following the path staying to the left abit to avoid going down side pathways. You will eventually come to a dropoff on your right, drop off and you should be almost face-to-face witht eh silver coin door. Just open it (dont need a coin to go out). Once you leave you will want to stay against the left wall and walk across the water. You will reach the open room where the different coin doors is, witht he walkway above you, take a right to go up past the ornamented door. Now here is where things change. Stay left a bit and walk STRAIGHT past the ornamented door, do NOT turn right (the way you came) there is a dropoff there and its only one way, so you gotta walk around. The path curves right a bit, jsut follow it, keeping straight, you will then come to a one-way drop-off. just drop off and keep walking, at this point you should pass a small room with a ariety of mobs in it and a little lake/pond on the right. This means your going the right way. Continue walking straight and you should come to the ever familiar nameless door leading tot he crab/ghast room just outsiude norg. Enter Norg, finish quest, grats to you hope you didnt die ^^.

Extra path. after you drop off and are standing in the room with the pond. if you are also needing the storage room quest. take a LEFT here And it should take you to the place for that quest as well. to return to norg from there just stay left until you come to the nameless door once again (ytou will come back past the pond). and your done.

If Im around norg Im happy to show
you the way, please dont ask for an escort tho. But im more than happy to let you follow me to anything yuou are looking for related to these two quests. Also feel free to tell me in game with questions. Comments/questions/praise you can send an email to kraekan(at)hotmail(dot)com, I will be happy to fix any errors, and Im happy to know if these guides helped you >^.^<

I honestly dont see why this is so hard to follow for some people. No one has ever told me in game that they were having trouble following my guide... and I cant make it anymore clear ^^;. If you want to see a map you can goto the website in my sig, its got paths marked and such.

I did hopwever meet someone in the grotto trying to follow your gfuide johnyhammer. I had to escort him all the way there, so there are definately some problems with your instructions. One thing to remember is its hard to tell what grid your at (yes I know just do <pos>) but w/o a map all you see is your marker in an empty space.

Lets see if I can sum up my instructions..

Enter grotto from the jungle, stay left until you come to the siulver coin door, open it, go up the path and stay to the right until you come to a drop off on your right. drop off and stay right, you will come to a drop on your left, when you get there DONT FALL off, but go right, the path should bend left and down hill a bit until you come to another unmarked door. just open it and youre at the treasure room. Take care tho, Sea Moznz in this room is DC/EM at 50 (soloable at 50nin). But its got an annoying AoE attack called whirlwind. Kinda like the gigas earth AoE. And for those interested, there is also a treasure chest spawn point in this room on the right side ;)

The map for the grotto is in the chest, after you get the chest there is nothing but gil inside, ranging from 3.5k-6.6k. The ghasts, riparian, rivulet and brook sahagins, ironshells, big claws, grotto pugils, Sea Monz and Vampire bats drop the key. These mobs are all found in the first area, and behind the silver coin door. The next tier of mobs, found behind the gold and mythril drop tthe coffer key, which is used for one or two AF, I dont recall what item is in the coffer however. Anyways, Happy hunting :)

*edit* rate down pussies. lemme see you contribute something you whiny ******** You think its so wrong you spend YOUR time and show us the "rigt" way to go. otherwise stfu noobs.

What do you want me to do? make a ******* movie of this?.......come to think of it... maybe ill do that...... ok peeps lemme get some things together and ill ******* SHOW you how to get there.

I believe its a coffer from the grotto itself.

This thread helped me get the quest as I am typing this I am currently logged out of game looking for a way to get back out I'm at the ornamnet doors(found my way back to there). Now everything seems like a big circle. 4 silent oils left guess its time to lose some major XP.

The map is actually in the chest not the coffer (thankfuly) so its a good deal easier to get. Most of the key droppers are an easy solo @50 assuming your a soloable job (i.e. not whm or smn, things like that).

For anyone having problems with this quest, Lienna did a fabulous job on most of the ninjitsu scroll quests on her web page, complete with maps. I highly recommend giving it a look-see if you're currently doing Utsusemi: Ichi, Tonko: Ichi, or Hojo: Ichi.

thats three deaths tonight, trying this quest out. I follow the directions exactly, and I find no unmarked door, with the eventual message of "a silver lining"

I found the ones for gold and mythril, but each time sneak is wearing, I run past the sahagins, and it wears before i can get free. then they link, and even my 53mnk can't beat them off.

I'm swearing off Utsusemi. I just want nin to sub to my war anyways, and war is just a sub to my monk, so ***** it.

youre pretty close from there. in that big, the bridge and the gold and mythril doors are on your right side. dont go to your right when you hit that room. keep on going left and youll enter a tunnel that *i think* slopes down. youll get to a room at the bottom and THATS when you start heading right.

I had only done the nin quest and accepted the sam quest when I started zinc trading. I traded exactly 120 ores and the price of riceballs at the tenshodo in lower jueno was 153 gil the same day. I went to Norg and got quest.
Enough fame?

First, I'll state the facts I'm absolutely sure about:

- Utsusemi: Ichi requires lvl 4 Tenshodo (Norg) fame
- When Rice balls cost me 162 gil apiece, I still had lvl 3 fame in Norg
- When Rice balls cost me 160 gil apiece, I was finally able to get Utsusemi: Ichi

Now some theories:

- As soon as I did a few trade-ins of the zinc ores for the Shady Business quest, I was able to start the quest in Norg.
I had done every lvl 2 fame quest possible in Norg (Tonko: Ichi, Dokumori: Ichi, Kurayami: Ichi, Jubaku: Ichi, Black Market (Northern Furs)) and the Yagudo necklaces quest in Windurst before that, and still wasn't lvl 3 fame yet. I'm not entirely sure, but find it highly likely that doing both the zinc ore and yagudo necklaces quests will get your fame much higher than just repeating one of them.

- After doing the Brugaire Consortium in San d'Oria, I saw my rice ball prices drop 2 gil on the first successful completion. This leads me to believe that the higher gil reward for the quest that you do, the more fame you accrue per trade-in, as the higher-payout quests are much more time consuming. Using this theory, doing the Black Market quest and trading in 4 Northern furs will give you the most fame, followed by the Brugaire Consortium, followed by the Zinc Ores, and finally the Yagudo necklaces. The gil rewards for the 4 Tenshodo fame-boosting quests are 1500, 1000, 350, and 200, respectively.

- Just completing the repeatable quest for the first time nets you more fame than any of the repeats of that same quest. Try completing the Tenshodo fame-boosting quest in each main city before heading to Norg.

Only quests for Norg fame I ever did (well as far as i know) were the yagudo necklaces. I did that quest about 55 times. I never did the zinc ore quest nor any other quest in Norg. I now have the fame required for the Utsusemi: Ichi quest.

My apologies, but the write-up for this quest got me killed twice tonight, as well as lost for 3 hours.

What follows is my take on it:

(1) Beginning at the entrance to the Sea Serpent Grotto, go left, continue left past the Ornamented Door, to N-14. Search the door here several times, then trade a Silver Beastcoin to it (you will NOT lose the Beastcoin.)

(2) Hug the right wall until you reach H-8.

(3) Once you reach H-8, drop down, and head North, still hugging the right wall.

This will take you directly to the sahagin's storage area.

From here, target the "???", triggering the cutscene, and get the hell out.

I need not remind anyone of the importance of Sneak in this zone, I'm sure.

I really hope that this helps someone have an easier time than I did.
Please feel to correct me if I made a mistake or missed something.

a note on my experience with Norg Fame that may explain some of this. I joined Tenshodo, did some Zinc quests and had turned in some Yag Necklaces. Checked Rice Ball price - 162.

I wasn't anywhere near level to go for Ninja yet so went and leveled my THF some more and went and did some more quests in Sandy - maxed fame in Sandy. Went back to check Rice Ball price - 168.

So, my conclusion is this - do not do other city quests between raising your Norg Fame. It obviously can go up. Just do the Norg Fame quests over and over. Pissed me off, but I was able to get Gobbie Bag #3 with my max Sandy Fame :)

can you do quests in Windurst, Sandoria, or Bastok and get fame in Norg?
RE: fame
# Aug 25 2004 at 4:15 AM Rating: Decent
The Sandorian quest is called A Job For The Consortium. You need to smuggle some goods into Jeunos Tenshodo. Pays 1k and is repeatable. But thers a chance of getting your airship pass suspended for a r/l day. ><

I believe bastoks quest is the Zinc ore one.

and the Windurst quest is the Yagudo necklace quest. 4 necklaces 200gil
Fame/riceball prices
# Jul 27 2004 at 3:31 PM Rating: Decent
I spent a long time yesterday killing Yagudo in Giddeus. I did the quest 37 times in Windurst and the zinc quest maybe 2-3 times in Bastok. I made a tick on a piece of paper each time I did the necklaces quest so I'm sure I did it that many times.
I was pretty pissed off when I went back to Jeuno and riceballs were STILL 160G...I was pretty annoyed.
I went to Norg today and did the scroll quest with the rusty leggings, and then the one for Tonko: Ichi. I could not do the rusty subligars one since there were none available on the AH.
After that, I was able to get all the other ninjitsu scroll quests including Utsusemi: Ichi...
So whoever said you need riceballs at 153-155G is WRONG.
RE: Fame/riceball prices
# Jul 30 2004 at 10:38 AM Rating: Default
Your fame isn't instantly adjusted for prices and the title the fame guys give you. It's tallied each week at the same time that they tally the conquest for each area. The best time to see quick rises in fame is on Saturday before the tally. Trust me, by next Sunday afternoon, more people in Norg will know you exist.

Ummm I have to disagree, I spent an hour or two a while back boosting my fame in Sandy, and every couple of stacks of items turned in for the quests I could go check my fame and see that it had infact gone up since I started, all this with about 2 game days I visually went from rank 5 to rank 8 (Im now rank9) in fame.

Yeah same thing happened to me. When I went to jeuno to check the price of riceballs it said 160. So I went to norg hoping to do a few more ninjitsu quests for fame and found out I could get Utsusemi.

You can check your fame level in Norg with the NPC Vaultimand (H-8).

Your fame must be at least this:

Well, if it isn't Aradan. Hear yer name lots 'round these parts lately. Why, I remembers when you was nothin' but a measly insect. Thanks t'me advice, you're doin' quite well here in Norg.

To get this fame, I did the Zinc Ore quest in Bastok 26 times and the Yagudo Necklace 7 times, as well as the Norg quests for Tonko: Ichi, Dokumori: Ichi and Kurayami: Ichi.

I'd like to thank Violence Jack for the compiled data that made my life sooo easy ^^
