Summary

A certain post is rotated at the meadhouse. Now, it's your turn.

Walkthrough

Once you have completed the quest Painful Memory, proceed to Lower Jeuno and enter the Merry Minstrel Meadhouse. Talk to Bki Tbujhja and she will mention that you need to bring her a vial of Holy Water. Do so, and she says you need to pay your respects to the bard of yesteryear. She tells you to pour the flask of holy water onto a sarcophagus in the Eldieme Necropolis.

To access the necessary entrance to Eldieme Necropolis, head to Beaucedine Glacier and go through the tunnel at H-11, where you zone into Battalia Downs. Once there, enter the Eldieme Necropolis at F-5.

Make your way to the dead-end room at D-4, where you will find the sarcophagus. This room has four Blood Soul mobs that scan as 'tough' to a level 50 bard. Clear the hallway and the room, then rest and recover hp and mp. Your party/alliance should camp at the top of the stairs that leads to the dead-end room.

Trade your holy water to a sarcophagus. This will spawn three skeleton notorious monsters, Owl Guardian, Dog Guardian, and Yum Kimil. You need to destroy these NMs quickly, as you are under a time limit. If you can manage to kill one of the NMs without drawing agro from the others, it is possible that the other two will despawn.

If the NMs despawn before you can kill them, or if you are defeated, nothing will happen when you re-examine your sarcophagus. Wait a few minutes and touch it again, and the NMs will respawn.

Once the NMs have been defeated, re-investigate the same sarcophagus you poured the Holy Water onto to initiate a cutscene. After receiving the Star Ring key item, return to Lower Jeuno and speak again with Bki Tbujhja to receive your Choral Slippers.

just for refrence its d-4 as you enter from the glacier route to the necropolis.

pretty easy over all, so long as you sneak and then cure pull the NMs one by one.

i think in fact if you kill the one called 'owl something' then you dont even need to kill the other two, we killed all three and we were about 10 people, all 55-60.
Ack

I fail to see why this quest is so hard, esp. for a Bard, which cannot melee very well. I dont really see the logic in that, but this wouldnt be the first dumb thing that this game made you do.

Ive been asked to help 4 Bards now, and only succeeded once before the other 2 NMs depop after one goes down. This was with an 18 person alliance where each PT took an NM.

This is pretty insane, IMO.

FFXI = the champion for lack of information!

I can't imagine how hard this game was when the japaneses first got into the game. I'm really surprised that they kept playing it, even though they could hardly GUESS anything concerning the quests.

It pisses me off that, for example this quest, has the following description: "You must undertake a job that rotates between Bards". AND THAT'S ALL! The quest name is The Requiem. Nothing else is said by any NPC in game. Ok, there are still the websites to look up for information (which I think it's kinda wrong, but without them it's simply IMPOSSIBLE to survive/accomplish anything in Vana'diel).

When you access the websites, you read the bull**** above: "Bring some Holy Water to the coffin in Eldieme. This will spawn 3 named mobs. After you kill them, investigate the coffin. This triggers a cut scene."

It's not as simple as it may sound. Bards, unite!

Step 1: Get the quest.

Step 2: Buy a flask of holy water at AH.

Step 3: TALK TO THE MITHRA IN THE TAVERN AND TRADE THE WATER TO HER! There's no mention to that ANYWHERE, neither in-game nor in any website. She will then explain you a little (veeery little) of the quest.

Step 4: Get a full PT of 58's or so (I seriously advise you get some higher level to help, it's not hard to find one -- the place is scary).

Step 5: Teleport to Vazhl and walk to the exit to Batallia located in the Beaucedine Glacier. From Batallia, you'll see an entrance to Eldieme, called Eldieme Mound by most of the websites.

Step 6: SNEAK! If you're 60ish monsters there WILL AGGRO -- period. Go down the stairs and turn left on the first intersection. You will find a room with 5 SARCOPHAGUS (no, they're not COFFINS, COFFERS, CHESTS or anything like that that can be found written on websites -- did I say websites help?). Inside you will find some ghost-form monsters called Blood Souls. Clean that room and be careful with their AOE Curse. WHM with Cursna is mandatory if you are to avoid trouble. Kill any hounds behind that room too to avoid adds.

Step 7: Bard gets Sneak, trade the flask of holy water to one of the sarcophagus and run back to the group so that you can pull one by one. Careful with Hell Slash and AOEs. Kill the minions first if possible; it seems to be a time-triggered event.

Step 8: Good luck and have fun with your AF2.

you'll have to head the long way to the Necropolis (from sandoria through the northen lands and back to batallia). Once inside you go straight along until you get to the first intersection (room with 2 mummies and 2 liches), make a left there, in the next room will be 5 coffins. Trade your holy water to one of them (for us it was the middle one on the left, but it may be random) to spawn the baddies. I suggest using sneak before spawning them so you can exit the room and safely cure pull one of them at a time. Unfortunatly we tried this with a group of 53's and a few 51's and we were totally slaughtered so i dont know any more details then this. I suggest you bring atleast 1 PLD and 2 WHM along as they hit very hard, our 54 DRG died in the first 3 seconds of battle by the first hell slash.

*edit*

Finally completed this quest. There are 3 NM's that spawn, At first we killed just the main NM and the other 2 despawned, but the bard was unable to get the cut scene event. After 6 tries we were finally able to kill all 3 of them before they could despawn and then the bard was able to get the event.

All in all, it took the assistance of a 66 BST and a 60 DRK for us to get this completed

Could this be any more vague? >_< There are about half a dozen entrances to the Necropolis, and who knows how many coffins. Anyone have any specific info? Coffin location, approximate level range of the mobs? Etc.
