Summary

White mages of renown will be given a blessed item for the war against the undead. But first, they must bring Yagudo holy water to prove their worth.

Walkthrough

Note: You must have completed Messenger from Beyond - WHM AF1 to begin this quest.

Start this quest in Chateau d'Oraguille by checking the door to Prince Regent's room at H-8. You will be asked to obtain Yagudo Holy Water and a pair of Moccasins.

Go to Castle Oztroja, which is on the east end of the spine across Meriphataud Mountains. Once inside the castle, pass beyond the large switch door on the second floor and kill Yagudo Abbots to get the Yagudo Holy Water. Then get Moccasins either by making them or buying them.

Then head to Northern San d'Oria and give both items to Narcheral at M-6 upstairs in the cathedral. He will reward you with your Healer's Duckbills.

I (57 WHM) got help from a 64 PLD and a 55 MNK with this but the MNK dropped soon after we reached the castle so it was only the pally and myself.

First head to the two lever door on the first floor. I found I was able to hit a switch and run away before the trap door opened so it was cake. If you fall down either Escape or run back. When I fell all of the mobs connect TWTBWW to me at 56.

After going through the 2 lever door head to I-10 on the second map for a secret door. Note that on the way there there are some EP Yags mixed in with all the TWTBWW so Invis is recommended. The two mobs behind this door checked as Easy Prey to me so they will aggro. One came after me and the PLD and I took it out with realative ease. Behind this door is the 4 lever switch combination for the day. Note it and go to the 4 switch door at G-8.

The two Yags that guard the switches were Easy Prey for me and TWTBWW for the PLD so he did the switches and we went through. After we went through the door all of the mobs were DC to me and Easy Prey for the PLD so we had to Invis. Be careful because sometimes the mobs on the other side of the door stand near it. If you open it and get aggro you could be fighting up to 3 or possibly 4 linked Yags.

The Abbots were DC @ 57, EM/T/VT @ 52 and EP @ 64. We found an Abbot right beyond the 4 switch door so we engaged but due to some bad luck we got a link from a NIN type Yag. I did Elemental Seal + Sleep and he was out for about 1/2 to 2/3 of the battle. The PLD and I could take the Yags here by ourselves but it was slow going. I did the usual stuff on the PLD and used Yag Drinks and Mellon Juice to reduce downtime. I took a few swings with my Arcana Breaker but I was missing too often (103 Club skill) so I just healed, enfebled and did some low level Black Magic.

The Abbots would cast Banishga 2 (decent damage but more importantly removes your Blink), Dia 2, Paralyze and Holy. Besides that they don't hit too hard since they're WHM class.

Watch for links and remember they link by sight. If two Yags are standing with their backs to each other you can pull one and so long as the other doesn't turn around or wander near your battle you're fine.

After a couple battles I asked for some help from people there and got 2x 75 THF/NIN to help out. After that we ripped them up, and got the item from the next one we killed.

3 down, 3 to go..

Well, the moccasins can be either crafted with a high Leathercraft or purchased at the AH, plus some mobs can drop them (according to this site, Yagudo Abbots and Topaz Quadavs can drop them). Other than that, there's really not much to say about them.

Moccasins don't drop from Abbots, unless they're super-rare. I just killed about 40 abbots in 2 hours and no boots ;;
lol

I got the item byaccident, was leveling WS with 3 friends my level and it dropped water first drop.
Rare or Common?

Is the water considered to be rare, as in kill a 1/100 chance it will drop or or common to occasional drop?

The water isn't all that rare. Got it in maybe 6-8 kills, at least. Unfortunately the boots are pretty bad for a Hume, worse than RSE at least. In fact the only pieces I think are really worthy are the hands and body (use Gold Hairpin, and RSE pants/boots - MP is all! ^^).
party configuration

HIhi i was wondering if anyone could offer some party configuration advice, what you say would be needed to take the abbots and any other linking yagudo out without putting myself and party in danger, thanks.

A good Part should consist of A tank (Nin, War or Pal) an off tank (War or Drk) a Whm a Blm and an off healing Rdm to keep Refresh up. the 6th member is optional @ your lvl or higher. I would reccomend a thf or at least a thf sub.

I went in with a 50 whm (me) 42 Sam 43 Nin and a 65 Rdm (we owned anythign in our path, sometimes 3 mobs at once)

So have fun and do mission 4-3 while your there.
in case you care

You actually start this quest by opening the southern door in Chateau d'Oraguille at (H-8) in the lower left hand corner.

And you don't take the items back to Pieuje, you take them to Narcheral at (M-6) in NSan.

And for the people that post the quests, if you are going to post them, please be complete in your information.
Easy

To echo what others have said, this is quite easy.

At 50, these Yagudo Abbots only conned tough (at the highest). We killed about 6 to get 3 drops for our white mages. All in all, it took us about 30 minutes from entering Castle Oztroja to get 3 Sacred Waters.

I happened be helping a group of people do the PLD AF2, which goes into Oztroja. We got lost and ended up killing about 10 of these Abbotts (just a normal mob type, nothing special), and about 5 people in our group got the Sacred Water. It is by no means a rare item.

Our group was a group of 55-60s and we slaughtered them. I believe a group of 50s would be able to take them if they're well put together.

I heard all the mages AF quests are extremely difficult.. but the quest is triggered once you hit level 50, presuming you did AF-1..

This goes for all AF quests, level 40 for AF-1, level 50 for the rest, except you need to complete them in order..

You don't need to "complete them in order," per se.

Once you have accepted the quest for AF2 (AF1-2, sometimes called), you can do the quests to open the treasure chests at any time. But you must do AF2/AF1-2 before you can do AF3/AF1-3.

BTW.. You dont need to buy the shoes or craft them even! Just fight the same Abbot and eventually it too will drop that item!

How tough is he?

As FFXISykes Sage mentioned in his comments, at level 50, these Yagudo Abbots only conned tough (at the highest). And clearly the Healer's Duckbills is at level 52. So a party of 50's to 60's should do it! =]
