Summary

You have been asked to head to Fei'Yin and help Dalzakk, one of Oggbi's students, with his task.

Walkthrough

Go to Port Bastok and talk to Oggbi at E-6. He will ask you to accompany Dalzakk to Fei'Yin.

Next, go to Fei'Yin and zone into Qu'Bia Arena, and then zone back into Fei'Yin. You will trigger a cutscene and receive the key item Letter from Dalzakk.

Go to Davoi and look for a 'Hide Flap' on a tent at (F-7). Clicking on the flap spawns two NM orcs named Bilopdop and Deloknok. After killing the orcs, investigate the 'Hide Flap' on the tent again to receive the key item San d'Orian Martial Arts Scroll.

Return to Port Bastok and speak to Oggbi again to receive your Temple Gaiters.

Note: This mission can be completed solo at any level. Simply use reraise before the two orcs spawn, then die, wait for the orcs to despawn and check the 'hide flap' again without zoning. Spawning the orcs will always cause the hide flap to move to a different tent close by.

For those of you that don't know where the 'Fighting Arena' is in Fei'yin (as I didn't until I managed to communicate to a 75 JP mnk that I was looking for it..), it's at K-8, in the middle of the hallway there - you have to go through the door, then zone in and out of the 'BCNM' room to get the cutscene.

You also do not need Invis, only Sneak to get there.

Good luck!

Despite the long going rumor that the zoning/distraction of the NMs method to get the key item was patched, it is exactly that. Just a rumor. The zoning/distraction method still works.

I have a long standing tradition of soloing things. Rank 4, rank 5. All my advanced jobs. I really was interested in soloing my af2.

So, I used my level 12 ninja, brought along a reraise and went to it.

Let me tell you, it is very frustrating soloing it especially with a level 12 job. So many things have to be perfect, its not funny. It took me 5 tries, almost 2 hours to get my key item.

I'll skip over all the failures, and go right to the success. I reraised, dropped invis, spawned them, and ran to a clear spot to die. While dead, some high level farmers came in and didn't realize the NMs were there until they got aggroed by them. They zoned, dragging along all the orcs. It didn't occur to me that would happen because there was no one else in the proximity while I initiated it. Anyway, I raise, check the other flap and got my Sandorian martial arts scroll key item. I tonkoed up (invis) and start heading back and saw the NMs near the entrance being gang-banged by several high levels. They were still spawned and I got my key item.

The rumors were false.

Anyway, I thought I'd add this to the other people's soloing experience for anyone who is seriously considering the solo(reraise)/duo(distraction/zoning) way.

ok, just fyi b/c it says this no where (or maybe I'm just blind), but there are TWO tents, one you touch and find nothing but the two NMs, the other actually gives you the book. i think you have to touch the one that pops the two nms before you can examine the other one. The pos in general of both tents is F-6, F-7. Good Luck and happy hunting ^^;

hm..ok another question then, as long as you get the quest, does it matter what job you are when you do it? Like this one, I'd rather die as my thf trying to get this the "cheating" way with re-raise, than lose the XP on mnk. Would I still get the book from the tent?

Finished this today answering my own question, thought I’d share my tale XD. OK it took me 4 trips to Davoi to finally get the stupid key item. The Fei’yin part was simple, used a lvl 1 job and a stack of invisible/sneak items to get there. But the Davoi part was hell.. changed job to THF36/NIN18

1st trip>> Got a tele, chocobo’d to Davoi tonko’d my way to the tent. Tonko started wearing, I got nervous, an orc aggroed, ran to the tent, spawned the NMs and used flee to get as far away as I could from them, I died of course and realized I didn’t use reraise scroll…

2nd trip>> got another tele, did the usual. Got fairly close to the Orc camp and used reraise. Spawned the NMs used a BAD way of getting invisible off and ended up canceling reraise. Died again.

3rd trip>> tele, junk, Stupid bat aggroed before I even got to the tent, a high lvl SAM sat and watched me die.

4th and final>> got everything casted no agro looked clear, spawned the NMs and I died right near them. As I sat there thinging I didn’t get anywhere near far enough to raise myself safely the SAM ran through and got aggroed from them O.o I hurried and reaised, checked the other tent which was close to me got item and death warped out.

Total gil used: 15k
Total deaths: 6
Total eXp lost: ~4k
But you know what? I soloed this damn thing(minus that sam that didn't mean to help me ^^;)

lol Special thanks to>> that SAM that got aggro from the NMs, hope you didn’t die >.<, and Celeska, thanks for all the teleports :D
sry for the uber long post ~_~;

oh! forgot to mention that the tent you check changes each time you do it, and that you check a different one after you kill/flee from the NMs. Had to add at least some helpful info :P
** Also when you are in the Orc camp there are more than just the NM's there, and Davoi hornets/wasps(can't remember) that link with orcs, so if you are going to run away, make sure you know a safe spot before you spawn the NMs.

For those of you that don't mind "cheating" your way through this AF quest, you can solo it with a scroll of Reraise, and some way to cast Invisible. I did it as a MNK/NIN for Tonko.

Tonko'd my way to behind the tent, used the Reraise scroll, went around to the front, hit the Hide Flap. When they spawned, I ran as far as I could before dying, then when they wandered back towards their spawn point, reraised, cast Tonko, and went and hit the other Hide Flap. Very easy, though I know many people would prefer doing it the "right" way. Personally, I was happier not having to bother my friends to come help me.

Just wanted to let everyone know this still works, since there's a lot of rumors that they fixed it in an update.

Well here's one for all you kids out there...hope you don't have to go through what we did.
Group consisted of 51 mnk/war 52 blm/whm 52 pld/war <me> 52 drg/thf and 51 rdm/nin. We got help from 61 rng nin.
We go to F-7 clear orcs and are resting. Someone else spawns the NM's. They get defeated, orcs haven't even flinched. Orcs start comin for us. So we enngage, i tanked the mnk and our mnk tanked the orc pld. Orc mnk 2 hours, so i use invincible. We defeat them rather easily. But since our mnk didn't spawn NM, he didn't get key item. With no mnk or pld 2 hours avbailabel to us, we try again. Rng Nin solo's pld orc with blm helping cure him, and the rest of us beat on the mnk. Orc mnk 2 hours, and my hp just plummets, between flash cure III and spamming of cure III's by both mages, we all stayed alive, we defeated the orcs a second time and our mnk got his item
Talk ab a hella trip to davoi...can't wait for af 3 here ><
gluck to everyone who tries this, and hope u don't fall upon our circumstances^^

Here's a question for those who may have tried it, could i go silent/invis to the spawn trigger the NM's and flee to the other tent to get the key item? Would these even work... and is it likely i'd get there before before I'd die.. i'm totally willing to eat a death as long as I get the key item first...

75 PLD
75 PLD
70 WHM
60 RNG
54 MNK
At first we ran into some spot where our RNG got aggro and PLDs had to voke off and made a huge high level orc train. Took out 600HP each PLD in less than a minute so we tele'd >.< Fight went smooth, I spawned them and each PLD took one. Our elvaan PLD took the monk orc for the 2hour (not like it even hurt them at that level)

I understand that NM can spawn within a level range. our spawn must have been tough. rdm went through a full convert of mp and both pld drained thier mp all with refresh up. the rng nearly got killed by 100fists after sidewinder (mega hate). anyhow we would not have made it out alive had it not been for the jp 63pld that graciously helped.

they can not be slept
pld can not be silenced
one orc is pld and other is mnk and they do use 2hr
the mnk orc has TONS of hp

lastly, as others have mentioned, after the fight you have to examine the tent flap on the opposite side of the camp. the first fight is really at f7 where you examine a tent flap, the second tent flap no fight is at f6.

I did this tonight. What the guide doesn't mentiont is that you need to find another flap after you beat the NM's (or train them.) There should be one on the other end of the camp from the first tent.

Did this with a 61 PLD, 61 THF, 58 THF, 53 WHM, 53 RNG, 53 PLD, and 51 MNK(me). Was fairly easy and the
MNK orc didnt even put a dent into the 61PLD. The PLD orc was just a pushover as we pummeled it into submission.

This quest is so easy. Bring a THF friend. Have them grabs some orcs then make the NMs spawn. have the THF run by and grab the NMs with the Train and use perfect dodge/flee and trian them to the entrance! look for the hide flap again, examine it, and scroll of instant warp home!
i did it w/ ease and it was fun.

Umm i did it while camping Poisonhand gnad with my 53 rdm friend just for fun. While waiting for the spawn i found the Hide Flap for the battle. So i started shouting for someone to come and help me with the battle..... Well a 65 rdm came and did all the work. we kinda sat back and watched did a few hits rdm friend cast refresh a few times and cure on me cleaning up the links.... this took like 20 min overall for the 2nms but the Rdm held the hate and took all the damage in a spam of 0's When i got board i used hundred fists on the pld and he used invincible at same time..... basterd.... Ovaralll a wasted 2hr and a pair of temple gaiters.. Fun times ^^

I did it last night with the following Setup.

Nin/War
Drk/War
Brd/Whm
Rdm/Whm
Mnk/War (Me)

We were all Level 52-53.

Thanks to some misleading posts we thought the NM orcs couple be slept, which is partially why we thought we could do it with a low level team like ours.

So i pull the two NMs...we focused on the monk NM and soon learned the neither could be slept. As i focused on pounding the monk NM while the nin tanked it, I switched targets over to the pld and voked it whenever it was available, focusing my melee on the MNK. The PLD ended up spending a lot of time running from me to the bard and to the rdm as we built aggro, this was good since it ended up spending a decent amount of time casting, and tryign to cure the MNK. I threw on defender when i could to make like a bit easier for the healers, and never used berserk. I also didnt use my 2hr early, aggro from both mobs would have been death for me. When the MNK used hundred fists, the rdm cast gravity on it then him and the DRK tried to keep it bound. We were able to stay away from it for the most of the duration of the 2hr aside from a few hits. After this the MNK was easy to finish off (man did it have a lot of HP), and we mowed down the PLD quickly, with my 2hr. Now I am a proud owner of a pair of temple gaiters.

Throughout the battle many of us came pretty close to biting the dust at points, and at the end the healers' mp was pretty much exhausted. I wouldnt suggest this fight at 52 unless you have a full party you can trust. Having a second tank would definitely be helpful, or a rdm who could kite the add around with gravity.

Did this today with a RDM buddy.

First we went to K-8 of Davoi, which has a Hide Flap surrounded by tier four orcs. Not the right flap. The one you want is F-6 surround by tier five orcs that will aggro you. Lovely.

So we Sneak/Invis'ed to the point, I dropped invis, investigated, and watched the RDM go to work. Phalanx+Stoneskin+Stonega and he rounds up all the Orcs in the area and starts running them to the zone. I find the other Hide Flap, get my key item, and warped out.

He trained over 25 orcs to the zone line and killed a level 60 party, but at least I got my AF2. >_>

So I did this earlier; here's my experience.

This was my setup:

60 PLD/WAR
60 PLD/WAR
56 SAM/WAR
60 SAM/THF
50 MNK/WAR
50 BLM/WHM
49 BRD/WHM

I don't really remember the details of their subs. They were all LS mates.

Anyhow, the number one rule I can give any Monk trying this with help is; CLEAN OUT ANY SURROUNDING MOB FROM THE TENT. This will save you lots of potential headaches. It also provides you with an easy oppertunity to get yours and every melee person in your party TP.

As for the Mobs themselves, Deloknok (The PLD) contrary to posts cannot be slept. If he can, that's news to me. The BRD and BLM both tried repeatedly to sleep him but it didn't work. Even Elemental Seal + Sleep 2 didn't work.

One of the PLD's voked the Orc PLD and let the Orc beat on him while we focused our attention on the MNK Orc.

The MNK Orc is a powerhouse. He has a hell of a lot of HP. The other PLD tanked him for the most part with little worries. The two SAM's Skillchained off of each other and I was just a wildcard doing whatever damage I could.

Things got interesting when the MNK Orc did Hundred Fists. One of the SAMS did a lot of damage and pulled hate from the PLD during the MNK Orc's Hundred Fists. The SAM took quite a beating and was reduced to yellow hp pretty quickly. At that point I slapped my Hundred Fists on. A minute or so later, the MNK was toast.

The PLD Orc is the easier of the two. His attacks on a well equipped PLD were laughable and even though he was beating on a PLD during the MNK beat down, he wasn't a factor or an issue.

The only eyebrow raising moment comes when the Orc PLD does Invincible. At that point, don't bother wasting TP on Weaponskills. Just wait for the 0's to start becoming actual numbers before letting him have it. He went down pretty quickly and easily. (Note of Interest, Chi Blast damaged him through his Invincible).

Anyhow, when we won we did a solic /hurray. But I couldn't target the tent again. ;_;. After wandering around, I saw there was a completely different tent targettable. After investigating it, I got the key item.

In all, it was a really fun battle. Like someone said, if you have people that know what they are doing and know their job well, this should be a piece of cake.

Did it yesterday
# Jul 16 2004 at 3:31 PM Rating: Decent
I was crazy enough to try this yesterday (7/15) with a 63pld, 51war, 52rdm, and 52 mnk (me). With all the warnings I've recieved about how difficult this is, I was almost certain we'd get served a wicked beatdown....

Fight starts, pld vokes mnk and flashed the pld, then we all go to work on the mnk. It has been said the mnk has a rediculous amount of hit points...and he does. 4/5th of your time fighting will be spent trying to put down the mnk. When he used hundred fists, our pld used invincible, and after a lot of craziness, he went down. Next was the pld, who was easy.... After hate had been established, i hit hundred fists and watched the poor orc shed a tear. Eventually, the orc pld used invincible, but once that was over he promptly ate a raging fists and was pushed down.

It was one hell of a fight, probably the longest, and most technical fight all of us has yet attempted, and we did it. w00t

Conclusion: While it IS possible to serve a beatdown to these two orcs with only four ppl, I don't recommend it. Make sure you trust your friends, and know they are fully capable of doing their job. If even one person screws up, yer prolly gonna die a horrible death when the mnk orc yells 'redrum' and uses hundred fists.
My method...

I decided i would do my AF2 wen I traveled to fei'yin another time. I had my chance wen my LS decided to get 5-1 done for the majority of the shell. After getting my AF2 cut scene from there, i decided to take who ever wasnt tired that night to davoi. We went ahead an alianced with 8 people. on my team i had a RDM65/BLM32, WHM57/BLM23, PLD55/WAR27, and myself MNK52/WAR26.
the other team was THF67/WHM33, DRG55/WHM27, DRK63/THF31, and BLM60/WHM30. (I may be off on some of these jobs and levels since it was about a month ago we did this.) Anyways we decided to sleep the PLD and go for the MNK first. This was decided because the MNK posed a bigger threat than the PLD. Well our RDM used Elemental Seal and slept the PLD. We started on the MNK. As soon as he hit his 2hr i hit mine. I and the MNK ORC were pretty much the focus on the battle field. a flurry of hits filled the chat box. with me countering him alot more than he did me. the MNK went down.. we then were able to refresh and heal a bit before we started on the still sleeping PLD. Was a shame to wake him.. he looked so sound and content hehe. Our thief Sneak Attacked and Tricked attack Dancing edge on the PLD to wake our sleeping beuty orc. it was all down hill form there since the pld might as well be using spit wads against us. all in all it was fun.

Sleep the PLD take out the MNK and all is good.

Did this tonight on the second attempt.

Had an alliance of 7:

50 MNK (me)
50 PLD
51 BLM
50 THF
50 RDM
49 WHM
49 WHM

We decided to take the PLD Orc out first as we thought it would be quickest to go down. Our THF offtanked the MNK Orc while we hit the PLD. After it had used Invuln, I hit my 2HA and we burned it down pretty quick. Our THF had hardly made a dent in the MNK Orc, so we all turned our attention to that. It took a while to take it down, it hit Hundred Fists at half health but our PLD coped ok with that, then it was just a matter of time.

Btw, none of the mages could sleep either mob even using elemental seal.

I'm on Caitsith too!

I tried this today with someone who did it pre-patch. It seems the "distract NM's while monk looks for tent" trick has been defeated. The person with me distracted both NM's and took off out of the area with half of Davoi with him while I found the 2nd tent. Unfortunately when I clicked it I was told "Event Skipped" and was unable to get the key item. Our whm was barely able to teleport me out before I was killed by the stuff that was left.

Long story short: ya gotta kill the NM's!
