Summary

You must defeat a powerful Yagudo in Castle Oztroja. The Yagudo in question can be lured out with a bottle of Yagudo drink.

Walkthrough

''Note:Before you can get this quest you must complete both Ghosts of the Past - MNK AF1 and The First Meeting - MNK AF2.

Ayame in the Metalworks asks you to kill a powerful Yagudo in Castle Oztroja and recover the feather he drops as proof. To get him to spawn, you need to trade a Yagudo Drink to a ???. The ??? is deep inside of Castle Oztroja.

How to get there:

Map 1

  • Enter on the bottom floor at F-8, make your way to the Trapped Door at I-8. One of the two levers (random for each alliance) opens the trap and the other opens the door. Have someone use one of the levers and run back in case the trap opens (a mage with Escape is good for this in case they fall in), once you figure out which lever opens the door, have everyone enter and head up the stairs to J-8.

Map 2

  • Enter at J-8 you want to get to the Four Lever Door at F-8. First, head west and south to H-10, then west and north to G-9, when you enter the large open area at G-9 head east into the small circular room, then take the north exit and head west across the bridge to the door. Up to this point at level 60 you should have no aggro. You should now be at the Four Lever Door, flip the switches until you find the combination that opens the door (changes every day). Enter the corridor, at this point mobs will start to aggro level 60 characters, invisibility will get you past the Yagudos. Head west along the corridor and follow it as it turns south, now head up the stairs at F-9

Map 3

  • This map is straight forward enter at F-9 and exit at H-11. In the room at H-9, be careful to avoid the Yagudo Parasites in the pool.

Map 4

  • Congratulations you have arrived. Head north to H-8, the ??? is at the first torch after the corridor widens.

Preparing for the fight:

It is important to clear the Yagudo out of the immediate area of the torch first. If there are no Yagudo around when you arrive, wait for them to pop and kill them. You do not want them to spawn in the middle of your fight. You will see Yagudo Assassins (64-72), Flagellants (62-66) and Conductors (63-67). Once the spawns have been cleared, the Monk should trade the Yagudo Drink to the ??? at the torch, this will spawn Huu Xalmo the Savage.

Huu Xalmo the Savage is a monk and will use 100 fists in the fight. You can elemental seal & sleep him, have a Paladin use Invincible or just spam cure your tank when he does this, the choice depends on party make up. He also has a very high counter rate (my opinion: I can only counter mobs I am facing, so you should be safe if you are on the side away from the tank) so everyone will take damage. Once Huu Xalmo the Savage is dead, the monk should lot on the Xalmo Feather as this is the item required for Ayame.

Head back to Bastok and talk to Ayame again to receive your Temple Hose and learn what True Strength really is.

Killing Xalmo

I just beat this dude today, here's the pt layout.

75 SAM (galka - he tanked it and never hit yellow HP)
70 RDM (brought along for backup, but he came in handy when we needed to sleep links)
58 MNK (me yay)
58 WHM (strawberrie yay)
And a collection of other level 60's who were doing Genkai Three (they call LB on fenrir o_O not as cool =P)

I noticed that the magic nukes (not necessarily MBs but just magic) did the best damage to him. I did not notice a high counter rate, and although I did not use it, i think I would have been safe using Hundred Fists. He took a long time to kill, but the only real danger were the surrounding yagudo. They were easily slept by the RDM and a few BLMs who were in the Genkai 3 pt.

Just did this with a few LS buddies. Party setup was:

60 MNK/WAR << me
75 RDM/NIN
75 MNK/NIN << tank
75 BRD/WHM
75 WHM/SMN
61 RDM/BLM
65 RDM/BLM

This fight was terribly easy. I was expecting the fight to drag and be difficult, but it was kinda fun! :D

The MNK/NIN (tank) just used dmg to keep hate. When the NM popped hundred fists, the WHM used flash and the NM whiffed for almost the whole 2hr. Aslong as you play it smart and take out links before you pop him, this fight is easy. Just make sure that your tank can either take the hits or evade them ^^

I answered a random shout in Jeuno last night asking for help on this, our set up was

71pld <-need feather
75thf <-need feather
61drk
65whm
72rdm
73smn <- me

Fenrir tanked 5/6 of the fight, evaded almost more than 30% of the hundred fist.
Eclipes bite did 900-1200, normal melee did 80-100

we did the fight twice for the thf and pld who needed the item, the 1st fight i used garuda, predetor claw hit it for 1600+ damage, but in the long run, Fenrir is a better choice coz of the lower perpetuation cost and higher melee damage adds up in the whole battle.

I suggest getting a 70+ smn for this NM
it was fun, if i had a chance, i'll do it again =)

Ayame's Being A Pain
# Apr 09 2005 at 6:58 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a 59MNK, got all my AF thus far. I go to Ayame, and she gives me a CoP mission instead of my AF3. I looked up what I had to do for it, and it aint hard so I'm just going to do it. However, It seems once I complete this CoP quest she's going to give me another one. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get the AF quest instead, considering I've done all the prerequisits? Or am I stuck doing these missions till she decides to cooperate?

/em slaps Ayame

Hmm.. I got the quest somewhere in mid 50s. I had a similar incident but when i talked to her I got the AF3 cutscene when I was looking for the CoP cutscene. It really should work when you talk to her.

I got two back-to-back quests from Ayame, just keep on a-talkin to her. As for the moblin quest (I think someone asked about that on this thread?) I've done it, you just kill the bombs in Movalpolis and trade sets of 1, 1, 2, 3 and 4 (maybe a fifth also, i don't remember) to a goblin inside. You then get key items to bring back to the taru outside the Steaming Sheep. Reward is the Jaeger Mantle. There's some other quest that involves that galka and a Bugbear NM (he's pretty easy) in there somewhere. Enjoy =P

Does anyone know whether he can be spawned and the feather can be dropped without the quest active?

I do not believe so. When I did my AF3 run, I popped him, and we beat him. When someone in the alliance who was too low level to get the quest tried to pop him, it wouldn't work. However, she gave me the Yagudo drink, and *I* could pop him a second time. Since the drop is rare/ex, it's probably set up so if you don't get the feather for some reason (disconnect, mis-lot, etc.) you can pop him as much as needed.

So if you are doing this quest with someone who needs it, and you also want a feather for some reason, you can bring multipl drinks and the person officially on the quest can just pop him over and over.

Oh, and I know you didn't ask, but I want to make sure anyone doing this quest understands: MONKS DO NOT USE HUNDRED FISTS AT ALL EVER ON THIS THING!!! With it's extreme counter rate it will absolutely counter you into the ground. I've watched three monks try to 100-fist this thing, and all three times I've watched their HP nosedive.

I asked about the quest because I will need to do it, but I have some higher level friends that may be going into the Castle and they offered to take care of this for me. Just want to make sure it can be done so I don't go for no reason at all. Thanks for the info!

Tonight, I went after the Savage with the following alliance makeup:

74PLD/37WAR
72WHM/36SMN
60MNK/30WAR (Me!)
60WHM/30BLM
60RDM/30BLM
60RDM/30BLM
60RDM/30WHM
60BLM/30WHM
60PLD/30WAR
59MNK/29WHM (Sneak/Invis)
55MNK/27WAR

It was a full alliance, but I can't remember what the other job was. ^^;; That aside, we simply rocked him. Having a high level PLD tank it, while a high level WHM helps with healing, makes it very simple. The PLD was hired help, but he was very kind, patient, and good at his job, so I don't regret paying him at all.

Each MNK, and one RDM (whose MNK is 56), needed the feather. We all got it without a single death. The pops are minimal, and they're enemies that a level 60 PT can easily handle, not to mention a full alliance.

Every time Savage was spawned, the battle went smoothly. I pulled hate an awful lot, which surprised me, but my {Howling Fist} was doing over 700 DMG at times, and we were using a {Distortion} skillchain. This required my disengaging him several times, but that was fine. Otherwise, the PLD managed hate perfectly and absorbed everything like a pro. (He was a Taru PLD, too. Eat that, Taru PLD haters! ^^)

Now, I've got full AF. Whoo to the frickin' hoo!

With a 74 PLD tank, we ruled this thing. He hardly needed curing, only the occasional III + Curaga. Most of the healing went to the melee that pulled hate, like the MNKs with hundred fists /point Kohan :3

The pops were a joke with so many people, and with a good level 60+ish tank you could rule this NM in due time, if not as fast as an endgame tank. It needs to be enfeebled to all hell and the counter is a pain so Regen spells are necessary for melee. Get a bunch of MNK that need this, because in the end, it's still just one yag against a bunch of MNKs, w.

Notes of interest -- stay away from the lake on the way to the top level of Oz. The parasites aggro to sound. Otherwise Oz is invisible and you only need prism powders to navigate safely. ^^

I did this quest yesterday.

You do NOT need the quest in order to do this. You *may* need someone in the alliance that has it. I was L61 with the quest, I had a friend who was L54 without it. She was not able to spawn the NM but she gave me the drink and I was able to do it a second time after I did mine. Since the feather is just a drop, she was able to lot on it and she got it. She got the quest and got the hose after going back to Bastok.

We did this comfortably with 13 people, most low 60's, a couple of 50's, and a 74 NIN tank. Clearing the room is important, since stuff spawns fast. You can *usally* find coffer key hunters here, so that may make things easier, since they can either keep the spawns at bay or you can recruit them to help. The more the merrier.

The NM is hard, but not impossible. The NIN tanked wonderfully, and everyone just pummeled away. It does have high counter rate, so everytime someone gained hate, it because a curefest.

I'm curious about starting this quest. Do you have to be level 60? And is this a cutscene, I went looking for the NPC with no luck.

Ayame is in one of the cannonry's in the Bastok Metalworks (K-7) i think. looking straight at the President's office go to the cannonry behind it on the left hand side, she is inside.
it can be done

you see the other mnk's walking around wearing their temple hose?they did the quest. All you have to do is kill all the yagudo's in the NM's immediate spawn radius then you force pop the NM and bam there it is you kill it you get your feather and you wear the full AF set =)

At the MNK page, you'll find that for AF3 the recommended party configutration: 15 members of LV58 at least.
