Summary

Walkthrough

Note: You must have completed Sharpening the Sword - PLD AF1 and A Boy's Dream - PLD AF2 to begin this quest.

Start out by heading to Chateau d'Oraguille and go to Prince Trion's chambers.

After the cutscene, you need to head to M-7 in Southern San d'Oria and talk to Vemalpeau, who lives in a small house. Then, head to the Lion Spring's Tavern and talk to Najjar. Next, head to Count Caffaule's Manor at C-6 and talk to Ullassa. Ullassa will tell you about an item called Mique's Paintbrush.

Go to Castle Zvahl Baileys and obtain a Zvahl Coffer Key. The following monsters drop coffer keys: Ahriman, Doom Demon, Arch Demon, Blood Demon and Abyssal Demon.

Next, find a coffer. All eight spawn points where coffers can appear are located on the third map. The spawn points are at J-10, F-10, F-6, J-6, G-8 and H-8. Trade your key to the coffer to receive the the Mique's Paintbrush.

Next, head back to Southern San d'Oria and talk to Vemalpeau again. He will tell you that all of his son's belongings are still in his room upstairs. Head upstairs and investigate the painting on the wall. You will get an option to look at a strange letter, so do so.

Once you have the letter, head to the weapon shop at K-7 and talk to Exoroche. He will tell you that you need to dip the letter on a well in Davoi to have the ink appear. At this point you are now ready to head to Davoi.

Once in Davoi, make your way to the village well at G-9. Clear all of the orcs from around the well, saving TP. Click on the well to spawn two NM orcs, One-Eyed Gwajboj and Three-Eyed Prozpuz. When you kill them, an item called a Well Weight will drop. Trade the item to the well for a cutscene.

Return to Northern San d'Oria and speak with Ailbeche. He talks about a lake in Jugner Forest. Now go to Jugner Forest and head to the Maiden's Spring which is located in E-6 of the map. Once you approach the well, you will get a really cool cutscene in which most of the storyline from the quests will wrap up.

After the cutscene, head back to San d'Oria and go to Prince Trion's Chamber in Chateau d'Oraguille to get your Gallant Surcoat.

I was damn lucky with a few parts of this quest, bored one day, did a /sea zhvahl.... found a random coffer hunt pt that said i could join up, got there, took last key (less than an hour). week of leveling rdm later(to 25) went back and found the coffer solo. what a rush, dropping invis next to coffer with demon a click away... back in jeuno formed a 15 person alliance(3 in my ls needed the PLD AF fight in davoi), needless to say this was total over kill, we only had 2 ppl over 70, a SAM and RNG i think. fun times :)

Did this tonight with 4 ppl.. 75nin/73rng/71whm/61pld and it was extremely easy. nin/rng kill rng orc first while pld tanks pld orc and keeps whm alive.. then when rng is dead all 4 vs pld and he was np at all.

I'm currently a 58pld looking for help with either part of this quest. I haven't started it yet, but by these stories I'm reading, it can either be uber easy, being done with both parts in less than an hour, or spending days and days looking for help and trying to get a key...
My LS has a few high levels, but none of them ever like to help anyone. -_- So I'm a little scared of how I'm supposed to get my gallant surcoat T_T
I'm on Garuda server my name is Makaze if you'd like to help ^_^

A friend sent me a /tell and asked if I'd join the alliance that was going to do the Davoi part of this AF quest. I agreed (after being afk getting food for 5 mins) and headed out on a choc. I arrived in Davoi, and they almost immediately popped the NMs. 3/12 people went down like rocks (2 PLDs O.o included) almost immediately.

I run around and get there with 4 dead, and everyone in the yellow or red. Waterga the crap out of the 12 orcs that they apparently didn't clear before someone popped the NMs. DS+Curaga 2 on my party, and then pick off the remaining orcs and NM.

There were 7 PLDs there, but we only did 3 more pops before half the people decided the utter chaos wasn't worth it and left. I was surprised being a frail BLM that I didn't die the whole time, and I kept my DRG friend who asked me to come alive as well. The 75 PLD held his own (obviously), but 7/12 of the people were dead at one point or another.

If you're going to do this, make sure there's a strong command and control type thing set up. No one pops the NMs until told to, the room is completely cleared, etc. Otherwise you'll have complete chaos and will probably wipe. You also need A LOT OF DD. A 69BLM (me), 59DRG (my buddy), and a 60DRK, where the only DDs there.

A good party of 65s could probably do this easily, just make sure there's a leader, and people follow him.

Just to let you know with 222 Enfeebling Magic my ES+Sleepga II was resisted on both NMs. A 75RDM has much higher enfeebling, but I get the feeling these are difficult if not impossible to sleep. So don't make that part of your strategy.

I attempted tanking Three-Eyed Prozpuz as 75RDM/NIN and flat-out got raped, wasn't even close. I was getting hit for 200-300 damage. I've soloed a lot of tough stuff but this Orc has been my biggest challenge so far. I don't know if they changed the strength of these NMs or something because I don't remember them being nearly this tough during previous times I've done this.

I trio'd this last night:

75 WHM/BLM (me)
75 WAR/NIN
67 WAR/NIN

Was a fairly hard battle. I kited the PLD (One-Eye) by using Bind, while the 2x WAR's killed the RNG (Three-Eye) and once he was dead they went to work on the PLD (One Eye).

Good luck to anyone who does it

I got my last piece of Paladin AF last night! After several attempts to recruit people in Jeuno (100k per person seems to be the going rate these days) I had basically given up and was working on a new character when a couple of LS members offered to help.

Yup, two. 73 rdm/war, Raydeus and 75 pld/war, Alephio. Ray was using dagger, and Alephio was using an earth staff. Between Energy Steal and Spirit Taker, this essentially made them perpetual motion machines. First fight didn't go too smoothly, I got rambunctious and threw down one to many 300 tp Spirits Within, wich rather predictable results.

Second attempt both my friends switched to sword before fight and got 300 tp clearing links, then when I popped the mobs, the rng was unloaded on. Afterwards, they went back to dagger and staff. Rdm tanked the Pld, Pld tanked the Rng. It was a long fight, but not only did we win, we ended the fight with basically full hp/mp.

An awesome fight, possible only because of the skill of the players helping. I think it may be a record for the least number of people in this fight.

did this with only 4 ppl ^^ me as my 70 RDM (yes you dont have to be pld), 75 pld, 57 war, and 72 whm... not to hard at all. I toke PLD NM, gravity and bind em, helped kill RNG NM, then went over and started to solo PLD, they joined and we owned em, I got all the links and agro while PLD tanked mostly. not to hard tons of HP though. GL ALL ^^

Just finished this AF the other night. we had 7 people. 75 PLD, 75 SAM, 7? THF, a couple of 60's me 58 PLD and a 58 RDM. was a prety easy fight. the 75 PLD tanked the PLD orc while the rest of us killed the RNG orc, then we finished of PLD orc. 10 minutes to total fight time.

Did this with an Alliance of 9 people,
75RDM, 75SAM(me), 75WAR, 70RDM, 70DRK, and a 75RNG the rest were 60PLD's that needed the Well Weight. Anyway, it was easy. Killed every mob that was remotely close to use, the WAR used a sword and had 300%TP by the time the pld spawned the first set of NM's, and used Spirits within right away. The 75RDM tanked the PLD orc while we went off on the RNG orc which took about 20 seconds to kill, then we move on to the PLD where me and the DRK pulled off our SC, Tachi: Kasha to the DRK's Spinning Slash for Light. Did this effectively for all three fights...

Did this yesterday for a 60PLD with me (71RDM/BLM) and a 71NIN/WAR. For some strange reason, we decided to kill the RNG first thinking we'd sleep the PLD... which didn't work out well. I tried 2 Sleep II's, an ES Sleepga and a regular Sleep and none of them stuck. So I ended up just tanking the PLD with Stoneskin while the NIN and PLD pounded on the RNG.

Half way through the PLD mob, the PLD we were helping D/C'd.... so we Gravity kited the orc for a good 5 minutes until he got back on. These were seriously by-far the easiest AF3 NM(s) I've done yet. Just make sure you clear the area first so you're not raped with links.

I'm not sure if the RNG will sleep, cause I never tried it.... but it might be helpful to try to take the PLD first and sleep the RNG instead.

just finished the quest. went to davoi with 59 PLD (me), 52 THF, 65 RDM, 66 BLM, and two 75 RNGs. we cleared out the area around the well and we started the fight. since everyone had TP at 300%, the RNG orc went down fast...didnt even have time to use EES. no one ever dipped below yellow health the whole fight. the PLD went down slowly but surely, and the end of the fight was almost boring it was so easy. completing my set of PLD AF has been my goal since i started the game, and now its finally done! thanks a bunch to Phawkes, Mathias, Dagmar, Tilli, and Maximumblu for helping me out, good luck to the rest of you doing this quest, and i hope this helps you out somehow.

I havent done the Davoi portion of this quest yet. But if you haven't got the Coffer Key yet, dont expect on getting the Davoi section in awhile.

I tried to get key 3 times.

First time had an alliance of 9 needed 5 coffer keys only got 3 in about 3 hours.
2nd time had an alliance of 14 Needed 7 keys about 3 droped in about 3 hours.
3rd time. had an alliance of 12 needed 5 3 dropped in 3 hours.

lucky for me, the alliance was about to disbanded and about to escape when a Monster poped in front of it. we fought it took it out and dropped and I won in lotting.

Most people who will party with you will need the Coffer Key too for themelves. so dont expect to get it done the first time.

Finding the Coffer Chest is easy. 2 reasons.
1. most of the time u will see about 7 or 8 different people in Castle Zvhal Baileys so theres little competition.
2. all u gotta do is just keep falling down those holes going back and forth trying each hole and ull find it.

bring at least 1 stack of prism powder and silent oil as everything aggros by sight and sound. or u can sub whm for sneak invisible which i did.

getting the coffer chest is no problem at all.
Getting the key is hopeless.
fun

I had HL help with the key in zvahl, I am a 58 pld and I had a 75 pld / 37 rng and a 75 rdm / 37 thf with me and we got the key in about half an hour, the coffer was literally right there so it was that easy, I was lucky to have great help there. So then they HL guys were like "whats next?" and I said the Davoi NMs and they were like "lets go". I was pretty suprised, I had counted on weeks of screaming in juneo to get people to help on this one. So they all warped back and I, having forgotten a warp scroll, walked back from zvahl baileys which I dont reccommend if you dont know your way because beaucedine is a ******* sword. So the pld gets a 75 drk to come along, and I recruited a 59 rdm and a 69 blm, so our pt setup was this:
75 pld 75 rdm 75 drk 58 pld 59 rdm 69 blm.
Clearing the well area was actually really fun, and they all of a sudden were like "go", and I was shocked cause most people had like half mp. So I popped the 2 nms and the 75 pld nin grabs the pld orc and holds onto him while the 5 of us kill the ranger. He does hit pretty hard, I had full gear and full buffs and he was hitting me for about 130-150 consistently, until the DRK got hate and kept it with the other 75. Rng went down, then after like 10 minutes of pummelling the pld orc he went down too.

The hardest part of getting this done is getting the people to help you. I will bet that the three 75s could have done it themselves with a 2 hour or two. You dont need an alliance.

If you read this a couple months from now and you need help, shoot me a /tell. I am always willing to pay back the favor.

Best of luck and see you out there.

Lynxx

I went and did the zvhals portation of the quest about a week ago and we had a bunch of people,

70rdm/war
65rng
66blm
60blm
60thf
57smn
60pld (me)

we got the key in about 2.5 hours but it would have been consideribaly shorter had we not decied to go to the keep, lol, if any one say the key drops there.... there wrong lol. I didn't mind that we got lost in there for a bit looking for "camps" because we had a hell of a fun time doing it. but any way after we got outta there we went back to the center and fought a bunch of demonds (like 20 of them) and then found an eye killed it and got the key, so i think if u are going after the key, go for the eyes they have a much higher drop rate, also FYI the coffer itself has a 15-30 min spawn period so if you find out the last time it was opened you will most likely know when to start using those oils and powders, unless u can sub whm like me and save tons of cash. ^^ good luck all of you coffer hunters hope this helps :)

Went with a couple of good friends to help on this for davoi.

62BST/WHM
73WHM/BLM
73MNK/WAR
66MNK/WAR

Me as bst, I just took the pld and kited it around with my pet after we cleared the area. both monks 2 hr'd the ranger and he went down fairly quickly... just a little over 30 seconds or so.

pld took considerably longer but we weren't ever in any danger whatsoever.

I always remembered alliances of 12 needed for this... but we did it just fine.

Having an alliance of 18 is just rapage. They are level 60-62, probably the equivilent of a tough. I don't know if they are stronger than the other mobs their level, but my party of 6 had no problem doing back to back fights with no rest. However we did have a 75 PLD tanking and some higher level melees.
Coffer key

hi i just thought i would share this. i went to zvahl with a pt consisting of:

60 PLD (me)
61 DRK
62 BRD
60 DRK
59 WHM
?? WAR/NIN

we went in and went to the wrong camp and got murdered by some IT demons, and so the war/nin "DC's" and never comes back. then the 60 DRK leaves. so it was the four of us. well we decide to give it a go again, and so we only fight the ahrimans that we see where the 4 coffer chests spawn in the middle. the first ahriman we kill we got a key. then we fight 3 more, and another drops! never fought the demons that drop the keys though, but i think it would be best to go after ahrimans, they seem to drop the key more often. hope this helps ^^

Please don't flame me, but I'm just sharing what actually happened with me...

Me (brd) and my PLD friend needed keys here, so we get a small party set up, and head out there. We dropped onto the second highest ledge and walked over and fell into the ravine where ahrimans are. We killed 3 of them, and got a key drop...we had a SAM subbing thf, but that was all the TH we had. Then he popped his chest, and we started in on my key. We only killed 2 more before it dropped. This could have been because the update, but I'm not sure. So I'd say kill ahrimans. Just silence them lol

BTW we had...
75 rdm/nin
65 smn/whm
60 pld/war (and then I took his spot with 60 brd)
72 whm/smn
61 sam/thf

Hope this helps

i shouted for help in jeuno for about an hour and got about 8 people to come to Castl Zvahl. After about 30 mins, first key drops, they let me get it since I set up the run. The party ended three hours later with a total of 5 keys and a whine cellar key (not to mention 1.5k exp and 20k worth of items). As everyone was leaving i decided to look for the coffer for a few mins. On the last one, i got it and warped out.

The NM battle was really easy. 12 members of my ls came to help, 1 level 75 paladin and a 71 mnk along with 10 other 60-65 members. We killed the NM really quickly. Now Im pimpin in my new armor
