the first mining point i found was at H-10.. I believe that there are some at H-11, but if you can't find any.. just chocobo around for a while and keep hitting the target button and you'll find one
took me maybe 3 minutes of running around (once i found my way to H-11 because I can't run around those places worth the life of me)

Talk to Malene in house next to Sororo's Scribe. -She's the one who gives you the Cold Light of Day quest. -She will tell you that, in fact, Alisa has been dead for a while. Talk to Enu, who is next to Zacc. -Triggers yet another cutscene, where she will ask you to find a Fallen Star which can only be found inside a huge tree in a jungle far south of Bastok (meaning Kazham, even though it's more east than south). Bring a hatchet to Yuhtunga Jungle and trade it with a Logging Point to receive the Fallen Star. -The fallen star is rare and exclusive, so you will not find them in the AH. -There are 3 logging points around H-11, but as with all Logging Points, if someone has recently used them, they will take some time to respawn. Return to Bastok Market and trade the fallen star to Enu on a clear starry night for your reward, 4 Bags of Cactus Stems. Does anyone know if you have to have accepted this quest first before you'll get the fallen star from the logging point.

I m check H-11 in Yuhtunga Jungle for 30min and no loging points. Check H-10 and got 1 Loging point. Use Hatchet and get my Fallen Star.
I read somewhere else that you had to go to Yhoator Jungle to find the mining point for this quest.
When it says fame needed: 40, or 60, how does this compare to your fame level for that city? I'm level 4 according to http://cannotlinkto/ffxi/fame.html#Bastok_Related

Whoever got it in their head to measure fame by number of quests should be shot....the number of quests you have completed has little to do with your actual fame level, which is something you can easily measure precisely in the game. So when someone says "40 fame required" or something like that, it has very little actual meaning.
You can also go to logging points in Yhoater to get this item. I got it from the same tree you get the OpoOpo brew for the Norg quest. It's right by the prime camping spot at the North zone to Yuhtunga. A goblin smithy spawns there so either wait till someone aggros or kills it.

I had all but 3 quests complete not alot of repeatables and coultnd get this quest bout several stacks of soot and then did that repeatable for about 20 repeatables in 3 minutes and was able to get this quest you need alot more then 40 fame I would think maybe 60 fame

Anyone remember how much fame it took to activate this quest or if you have to be Bastokan? I currently have 42 Unique Bastok Quests completed, with about 25 repeats of various quests. I am rank 5 and level 49, yet I still cannot activate this quest. Any information is helpful. Thank you
You need to have level 5 fame in Bastok before Zacc will start this quest. When Falco tells you, "A lot of people know what you've done for Bastok. People are saying good things about you. Keep up the good work!", then you can start it.
Listing a certain number of quests (30 quests, 50 quests) is rather pointless, since different quests provide dramatically different levels of fame when completed.

It dosn't seem to matter which place you try and chop at the logging points, I just tried the first place I saw in Yuhtunga, and I got the star.

Chances are someone recently was in the area and used a hatchet on the logging points.
Best bet is to either run around and try to find a different logging point, or just come back to H-11 at a later time.

That is a good question, im currently just going city by city to activate quests, bastok is going to be last on my list, i really dont care for how cold that place feels, way to much industry, ill take trees and grass anyday.

4 cactus stems = 48k in ragnarok :)
and i think any logging point will do, as long as you have quest active, since i also got mine on 1st attempt, and in a different spot

Well the price of cactus stem was 25k on the seraph server but recently crashed to 16k, i've seen some sell for 8k in windurst.
