Description

Speak with Zacc near the fountain in the Market. -A cutscene will occur if you have enough fame. -Zacc will ask you to find his wife, Alisa.

Talk to Malene in house next to Sororo's Scribe. -She's the one who gives you the Cold Light of Day quest. -She will tell you that, in fact, Alisa has been dead for a while.

Talk to Enu, who is next to Zacc. -Triggers yet another cutscene, where she will ask you to find a Fallen Star which can only be found inside a huge tree in a jungle far south of Bastok (meaning Kazham, even though it's more east than south).

Bring a hatchet to Yuhtunga Jungle and trade it with a Logging Point to receive the Fallen Star.

-The fallen star is rare and exclusive, so you will not find them in the AH.

-There are 3 logging points around H-11, but as with all Logging Points, if someone has recently used them, they will take some time to respawn.

Return to Bastok Market and trade the fallen star to Enu on a clear starry night for your reward, 4 Bags of Cactus Stems.

After trading the fallen star to Enu, she will let you wait,
"It has to be a starry night for the fallen star to work. We have to wait a little bit longer."

Water ore or any other ore
# Aug 03 2006 at 1:07 PM Rating: Decent
Ya, i just did this quest and was pretty mad when i found out all i got was cactus stems but i know how to grow ore with them.

You need, Porcelian Flowerpot x1 (Arcane Flowerpot also works with better results but adds 1 week to harvest time), Cactus Stems x1, 2x Crystal (element of crystal matches element of ore u might get from harvested)

Very hard to harvest the ore, You could get mythril leaves or crystal clusters.

Found my logging point at the G-9 area in Yuhtunga, choco'd there with my 20NIN, slapped on some silent oil (guarded by Overgrown Rose) traded a hatchet (which promptly broke) and got my item.
Then blew myself up to get back to Jeuno.

Edit:
Gave the Fallen Star to Enu on a cloudy night (I could see some stars, but definately a lot of clouds) and still got the cactus stems

Yeah, Just follow that guide.

TIP: If you have a few extra hatchets, give it a shot. Try to lumberjack a couple extra presents off with you for the ride. You might turn a little extra profit besides the 40K~~ from the Cactus stems. It's super easy to walk around here and not get in trouble. Wouldn't reccomend this quest for anyone who's below lvl 40, or if you want to try before 40, who isn't scared to die, or run like hell and warp like hell.

10K~ for Cactus Stems on Gilgamesh
what do they grow into?

The TRUTH of the Fallen Star

You know it really twists my nipples when ppl will print information that is so wrong it's aggravating to the point of pulling my hair out.. I have spent WEEKS on and off trying to find these STUPID logging points given above. Three logging points, spawning in different areas, blah blah.. at H-11 in the Yuhtunga jungle.. It's WRONG WRONG WRONG. Go to the SE Zone of the Yuhtunga to enter the Yoahtor Jungle, hung the left wall and u'll come to a tunnel going west.. and the first light of the tunnel u'll see a tree.. this is pos: E-9 Yhoator Jungle.. THAT's the logging point.. it doesn't change.. it doesn't spawn it's RIGHT THERE. Use a hatchet.. get the fallen star. SIMPLE!!! Take it back to quest giver.. receive ur reward. OMG stop writing instructions that are misleading or just not correct at all. This game is emotionally draining as it is.
the REAL truth
# Dec 24 2004 at 5:10 PM Rating: Decent
there are tons of logging points in either jungle...when the quest info was published (i.e. awhile ago) not many of the points had been found. there is NOT just one logging point, and in fact, the logging points spawn instantaneously in another place in the jungle. If you had ever used a hatchet before, you'd know this... Yes, I agree the quest should be updated, but don't try to "correct" it with MORE wrong information, please... if you want to see all the logging points, i personally like the maps at mysterytour (which in the last month or two have updated the jungles with all possible logging points...and yes, the two jungles are independent of each other, each with 4 or 5 active points at a time)... now, on the other hand, if there is a single logging point called "the fallen star logging point" then i stand corrected, but i'm pretty sure it's a regular point... and a side note: i logged wood in the jungle several times before getting this quest assigned and NEVER received the rare/ex-->this may be coincidence, but i have a feeling it's not: you prolly get the rare/ex deal immediately after getting quest and finding a point. can anyone confirm that?

edit: having just che cked the mystertour maps, the E9 location has 5 or so spawn points that come and go. I have been through this area more than once and cannot recall seeing an eternal loggig point, but i'll check tonight as i plan on doing this quest, and try to update as to what i see there...

confirmation: went to dude's E9, no active points, nothing special there... completed quest by finding the star on first chop on an active point to NW of E9...doesn't mean it can't happen in E9, but don't listen to people saying it's only there... check mystery tour for all spawn points...

here's a thought
# Sep 13 2004 at 12:10 AM Rating: Decent
{hmmm.}
Quest guide above mentions reward is cactus stems. Strat guide says Water Ore. I know the strat guide has some flaws, so its easy to assume they got this wrong. However, it is to my knowledge that elemental ores can be grown thru gardening... If the Cactus Stems are used for gardening, perhaps you might be able to grow the water ore from the cactus stems and therefore actually have a water ore reward (kinda)... :\ I dunno if its possible, just a thought that could possibly link the two.

Heh... idk what those guys were on when they wrote the guide. The most accurate walkthroughs you have to work for, looking here, and other sites to get what resources you need. Cactus stems aren't worth as much as ore, but it beats a poke in the eye.

anyway... yeah, i burned that worthless guide and roasted chocobokabobs over it.

Hmmm...so is there a way to get Water Ore? From what I see, you can get it if you trade it when it's NOT a starry right...is that true?

@@; Water Ore is worth quite a pretty penny (or gil) here, it'd be nice to get some new gear =P

It's not a repeatable quest, nor can you do it with low lvl fame, so I doubt this quest would really hurt it's value

I completed this quest on a clear night, with the North Star being the only one visible, and everything went fine: got the cutscene and the cactus stems. I didn't even try to do it the night before, however, when Bastok was covered in a thick fog.
question

The guide says that if you trade the fallen star to Zacc on a night where u can see the stars that you will recieve a chunk of water ore?

The guide is incorrect. if you trade a fallen star to enu on a night with stars out, you can finish this quest and the reward is as stated above, 4 bags of cactus stems.
RE: question
# May 28 2004 at 4:07 PM Rating: Decent

Sorry, I was unclear, the above guide is correct and the strategy guide is incorrect. Yes the Spring FFXI strategy guide states the reward is water ore, however that is not what you get. the reward is cactus stems, I have done this on my main as well as gotten fame on my mule and getting help to get the star to get 4 more bags free. :)

Is it really worth it to do this quest with your mule? You're gonna need an airship pass for kazham, and it's easy to forget how long it takes to go between cities after you have a choco, airship pass, and teleport crystals.
RE: question
# Jan 27 2005 at 8:16 AM Rating: Decent
My mule already has an airship pass to Khazam. I got her to BRD27. It was fun playing a Taru for a change. I don't see the point of lv1 mules. =0P
level 5 and no quest

Fame level 5 in Bastok and I still can't get this quest. NPC fame teller tells me "Hello there Cryptos. A lot of people know what you've done for Bastok. People are saying good things about you. Keep up the good work!"

Any other prerequisites for getting this quest?

Got this quest at fame level 9. The best way to get this level fame is trading cabbages or moss to sheep guy in selbina. Wait til your country owns the dunes and warp there with your inventory full, trade food, warp back.
