Summary

Ring the tuning fork of lightning upon the protocystal in The Boyahda Tree. A path will open to the trial that awaits.

Description

First, a few notes about Avatar in general fights. This is not the Trial Size quest, which is the solo fight, capped at level 20 (refer to Trial Size Trial by Lightning for that quest). Everyone who is involved in the fight must have a tuning fork of the correct protocrystal. There is no cap on this battle, although there is a 30-minute time limit (not that it ever seems to be important).

General level guidelines: 60+ for melee and 55+ for mages. Youll want a Black Mage for certain and a solid tank, but the rest is relatively flexible. A well-balanced party is critical, though. Youll likely want at least 2 of the following 3: Red Mage, White Mage and Bard. You will want one of the melee or the Bard to be able to cast Bar-a spells. Having the WHM or BLM try to cast them will be problematic. Our strategy for this was to have the RDM sub WHM and melee using the appropriate En-spell for easy Bar-a casting. Additionally, if you can buy an Enhancing Torque (usually much cheaper than corresponding Torques), that will add 2-3 points of resistance to Bar-spells. Additionally Mal-rings (from the ghost NMs in Gusgen Mines) can be helpful for the fight. You can buff up before entering the protocrystal, so feel free to do so and rest up while still outside.

Battle strategy for all six fights is pretty much the same. The battlefield layout for all six fights is exactly the same, although the coloration scheme for the battlefield will be different. The battlefield is shaped like a long path up the side of hill, with a switchback about halfway to the top. This topographical feature allows the mages to stand above the fight (and out of easy reach of the avatar) while still being able to cast spells upon the combatants. This allows for the tank(s) to have extra time to pull hate back should the mages draw it. It is ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL to keep the correct Bar-spell up at all times. Not doing this will result in multiple deaths when the Avatars 2-hour comes (at about halfway), and will likely produce a loss. Each avatar is also only easily susceptible to debuffs of the element they are weak to (i.e. Shiva can be Paralyzed). Whether they are susceptible to other enfeebles of very high level is not confirmed.

It is strongly recommended to fight each avatar on the day it is weak to (i.e. Shiva on Firesday) and even more strongly recommended NOT to fight the avatar on its day (i.e. Shiva on Iceday). Spells of each element are much stronger on their specific day of the week.

Each quest is repeatable, but only once per real life day. Once you have returned to the quest giver and gotten your reward, you have to wait 24 hours (some say midnight Japanese time) in order to get the quest again. At that point, you can get a new tuning fork. Each time you complete the quest, you can choose ONE reward from the list, which varies from avatar to avatar.

In order to get the Fenrir quest (The Moonlit Path), you have to have whispers (key items) from all six elemental avatars. This means that you cant turn them in for reward until you have all six, at which point you can give them to the Fenrir quest giver (Leepe-Hoppe in Windurst Waters). So, in order to be able to get Fenrir and all six avatars, youll need to fight each of them at least twice. Additionally, if you are a Summoner, the Evokers Ring is only obtainable through the Mama Mia quest in Norg, which would mean you would have to fight them each a third time.

If you cant get any of these quests, the problem is likely fame. Each quest giver is a taru who stands next to a non-taru warrior. If you dont have sufficient fame, the taru will just complain about being hurt a lot while his companion will discuss perseverance and not giving up. If you have sufficient fame, the Tarutaru will give you the fork. The non-taru will give you a Trial Size Tuning Fork if you have met the requirements.

TRIAL BY LIGHTNING

To obtain the Lightning Avatar Ramuh, first speak of Ripapa in Mhaura. If you have sufficient fame, he will give you a tuning fork of wind (key item). Mhaura fame is closely tied to Windurst, with a good measure of Mhaura-based quests thrown in for good measure.

To use the fork, you need to travel to Boyahda Tree (SE corner of Sanctuary of Zitah) and find the Cloister of Storms. Once in Boyahda Tree, follow the path to the first fork, take a left. Take the next right and follow that until you come to a large room with a huge tree in the middle. From this point forward, youll need to put up Sneak and only Sneak. Travel northwest through the big room and through a second big room until you get to C-5 and head up the tunnel. You will go up another level and eventually come out at E-6 of another map you will be in another huge room. Head SE as much as possible until you see an immense waterfall. It should be noted that there is a little waterfall that heads down on the west wall of this room dont go down that, as that will take you somewhere else. Walk under the big waterfall and down the passageway behind it. You will zone into the Cloister of Storms.

Try to fight Ramuh on Earthday, and do not fight him on Lightningday. Keep up Barthundra at ALL times. Ramuh really likes to both Paralyze and Stun. Let your WHM know to have Paralyna and Erase ready. You might want to make sure the BLM and RDM sub Paralyna for this fight. Ramuh sometimes likes to follow up his AoE Paralyze and Stun effect with his Astral Flow, and if Barthundra fades at that point before your WHM can remove Paralyze, there will be complications. Having multiple people with Paralyna and Barthundra would be particularly useful for this fight.

Once you defeat him, you will acquire the Key Item: Lightning Whisper. Return it to Ripapa for your reward, or hold onto it. If you have all six whispers simultaneously, you can give them to Leepe-Hoppe in Windurst Waters to gain the Moon Bauble which is basically the Tuning Fork of the Moon the ability to fight Fenrir. If you are collecting items for the Evokers Ring, you will want the Elder Branch.

Kill Avatars fast and efficient!

Just thought I'd share:

I beat Garuda and Levathian with just me (lv 65 SMN) a 60 SMN and a 75 NIN.

For Garuda we had a few rdms curing mostly, if at all (with a few nukes at the end)

For Levathian, we had a whm and a blm and a war. (war didnt do much, was lv 54+ but was a nice person) (Blackmage nuked and healed at end) (White mage cured)

So What I am saying, for basically any Avatar, except Fenrir, just one tank (Like a 70+ nin or pld) and 2 smns can kill them in 2-3 mins.

First step is to go to the twist in the fight area and have both summoners summon opposing avatar. Have one smn go and pull the Prime Avatar with his pet. Then retreat back to the twist. Have both Avatars Ver IV Nuke the Prime and repeat + Resummon as needed.

Pull out Astrial flow for one summoner before you feel the Prime will use its 2 hr Bloodpact.

1) You use your 2hr Bloodpact 30-40 secs before you feel that the Prime will 2hr.
2) As soon as you see the Prime "Readies (Insert 2hr here)", have the smn that used his or her 2hr BP dismiss his or her avatar. (ONLY WHEN THE PRIME HAS THAT AVATAR TARGETED TO USE IT'S 2HR!)
3)That will damage the Prime badly and as a bonus, it will make the Prime consume all of its mp and reset its Bloodpact timer, and its 2h will miss! just as if a real summoner was trying the same thing in ballista! the Prime would theoretically recieve a "Target is out of range, unable to use 2h on <target>" if it were a player, not a monster.

Last step, as soon as the Summoner dismissed the avatar, have the other summoner use a Ver IV mag, in order to pull hate back, in fact, that last Ver IV should kill the Prime, if not, it will die shortly enough.

You can try to prove me wrong, but I have too many witnesses that this method works!

Yeah, that strategy may work...
Or you could bring a PLD to tank, a WHM to cure him... and then just nuke him. XD
Worked for Shiva, Garuda, Titan all in a day without any sort of risk and veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery fast. ^^

Trial Size Trial by Lightning battle, there are no level 65 players.. only level 20. In the Trial by Lightning battle, yes, summoners can summon Titan.

You can fight the full powered form of a single avatar once in a 24 hours (real life) period. What usually happens is you just work your way around the string of avatars in a night, stop for the night then repeat sometime later.

As I was reading some posts I realized that some of you where right and some of you where wrong. I'm just gonna clear everything up quickly. The high-level Protocrystal battles require level 7-8 fame, but the level twenty solo battles only require level 3 fame. In order to get Fenrir, you need to have beaten all the HIGH LEVEL protocrystal battles, From each battle that you defeat, you will get a Whisper EX.such as an Earth Whisper for Titan or an Ice Whisper for Shiva. After you get ALL the whispers, you can then fight Fenrir with your HIGH LEVEL party. Your party also requires all the whispers. As for fame, Selbina and Rabao are both on San d'Oria fame. Kazham and Mhaura are both based on Windhurst fame. I learned most of this information on http://www.summoner.info . I hope I cleared up all this confusion.

Guys I heard something that may be rumor...but it may be useful to know if it's true.

I heard that you must have ALL avatar "whispers" collected PLUS the tuning fork to unlock Fenrir.

And....that the mini-prime's DO NOT give the whispers...which would mean that you would then have to refight the regular prime's at the normal time to get the whispers so you could unlock Fenrir.

Anyone have Fenrir that did the mini-Prime's that can confirm or dispell this rumor?

Thanks in advance!

You do not get the whispers from the mini-primes. Only the ability to summon them. You must fight the lvl 60 Primes to get the whispers. And must turn them in to the taru in waters (forgot his name) to get the tuning fork for Fenrir. And Fenrir is about a lvl 70 fight.

Yes if you can beat the first six avatars twice (once for the wisper and once for their key item). Then fight Finrir for his key item you can turn them in on the Norg quest "Mama Mia" and you receive a Evocer's ring, it has excellant SMN stats.

#REDACTED, Posted: May 28 2004 at 4:22 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) OK i solo'd these fights, i solod ifrit and solod ramuh FOR THEM BOTH i need lvl 7 fame GOT THAT LVL 7 I DON'T CARE WHAT WORLD YOU ARE ON OR ANYTHING YOU NEED 7. now that i said that, it took me some grand total of 150 quests to do it. and i am only lvl 30 whm and lvl 20 summoner now ^^ and the solo fights for the summoner are soooo easy and NO THE AVATAR IS NOT WEAKER THEN THE PRIME FIGHTS. LOL morons... only difference is the guys fighting the prime fights feel really stupid staying in there first class so long, so the company changed it so Fenrir must still be fought in prime mode. So ah well, by that time my WHM will be 70 in a month or so....took me a day to get from 23-30 lol 8 hours playing, so easy.

I wish I were speaking from experience but I was told from a level 75 summoner that you need level 7 fame for every avitar quest except leviathon, they said you need level 6 for that one. I do not know about fenrir because I talked to them before fenrir was added.

Actually you just need the whispers to obtain the key item from the Tarutaru in Windurst. Then you go battle the super-avatar Fenrir. ^-^

Note: lv70+ is RECOMMENDED for Fenrir... he is VERY VERY powerful.

Let me clear up a few things
Fame level required for all avatars is fame level 7
You dont get to choose and item right away you have to go back to the quest giver to get your choices. Rabao fame is linked to Selbina. But in order to get Garuda Jeuno fame is required NOT Rabao. Leviathan fame is Tenshido Fame and you must kill All of the Avatars to get Darkness Tuning fork for Fenrir quest. I have gotten 7/8 Avatars just so you know I am a reliable souce.

Information pulled from the Quests forum: (About Windurst fame)
Quote:

Level 6
Mister Burninsensation! You'd have to be living in a hole somewhere not to have heard that name. All the bards in the land are singing songs of your outstanding deeds. Keep up the extraordinary work!

At this level of fame I was able to retrieve both Ifrit and Ramuh quests... The required ranking for them is 6.

Your information is quite accurate besides that ^-^

While I haven't gotten this tuning fork yet (windy fame is so much harder than bastok or sandy >.<), the fame requirement in the other two cities' summoner quests has been level 7. I think it should be the same here ^^
RE: ???
# Mar 01 2004 at 10:14 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, after buying literally every cornette on Midgardsormr and farming a few of my own (poor little mandragoras didn't see it coming), I finally got enough fame for the Mhuara, and presumably Kazham though I haven't checked yet, avatar quests. Anyway, apparently I only needed level 6 fame in Windy to get these two quests. Considering that I checked with the owsie wowsie taru in Sandy after every stack of bat wings that I dropped off, I am certain about the level 7 requirement both there and in Bastok; I'd guess that the quests outside of the main cities simply require less fame.

By the way, the message that you're looking for from the Windy fame npc is, "You'd have to be living in a hole somewhere not to have heard that name. All the bards in the land are singing songs of your outstanding deeds. Keep up the extraordinary work!".

Good luck questing, and have fun with those avatar battles ^^

there are different levels of fame needed for different avatars I've noticed
rabao = san doria fame, yes?
I have enough fame in san doria for shiva, I have the ice fork on me right now, however I did not have enough fame for garuda, garuda = rabao = san doria, riiiight? I heard from someone 7 for shiva, 8-9 for garuda, don't know the accuracy of that however. I just know I can't get garuda ; ;

Rabao fame is linked to Selbina, and while some people suggest that sandoria OR bastok fame links into them, i'm not entirely sure. But I do know they have their own fame level independant from the major cities.
RE: sort of a correction
# Mar 01 2004 at 9:36 AM Rating: Default
From what I can tell, Selbina/Rabao is linked to san and bastok equally, which is then somehow calculated in with selbina/rabao quests. If you check your selbina/rabao fame, I'll bet it lvl 7 to get garuda, even though your bas fame may be 6, and san fame may be 8.

I don't know about Rabao being connected to Bastok, however my fame is maxed in Sandoria. It's only lvl 5 in Bastok. I was able to initiate Shiva & Garuda quests, but not Titan. I also got one of the lowest prices for Dispel in Rabao @65k. I know this b/c in windy I am charged 79k & a friend of mine who has max fame in Windy got hers @ 65k as well. In addition, I got the teleport altep quests. All this to say, how much Bastok has to do with Rabao, I do not know, but if you simply go in with Sand fame, Garuda should be acquired as well.

Let me clear up some things really quick. You only need level 7 fame, not nine (which is the max).

This is a mob that requires a 60+ PT. It can be done with people lower than that if you have a PLD that is like 70+ and can hold hate REALLY WELL. If you plan on doing this, try to get a high levl BLM or multiple BLM's to deal good damage and make the battle fast, and don't plan on living, cause there is a high chance that low level (less than 60) will get one hit KOed.

When you beat the guy, you do not get drops!!! You go back to the person that gave you the quest and he will give you the option of choosing one of the folllowing: the Pact (getting Summon Magic), 10,000 G, a Rare/Ex Weapon, a Rare/Ex belt, and a Rare/Ex Ring. You can do the quest many times to get all the items, but you can only do teh quest once per RL day.

Actually if you have a good WHM who does the Bar spell, it is very easy to live. I fought 2 avatars so far (at lvl 51) and the astral flow did 100-150 to me (and I was right beside them fighting). We didn't have a BRD to do the carol.

RE: Quick question...

There is no level cap because for any chance of success, you need AT LEAST a full party of level 60+ players. Even with a full party of level 75 players, there is still a decent chance of failure.

Actually, with a PT at level 70 this mob is a push over. Some people are able to solo these at 75. Mainly RDM's and PLD's.

Keep in mind though, getting to these places is not easy if you are a low level player looking to leech off these high level players.

hi, they dont drop Rumah Prime, you fight the Prime Avatar. At the end of the fight, each person in the party that killed him can choose one of the items, among those items include 10k gil, or the rumah summon. Please dont post false information. If your going to try to help, try doing a little research on it first, otherwise all your doing is steering people in the wrong direction and not really helping at all.

Yes that person is right it can drop items but one other thing.... It drops a thunder staff, or a Ramuh Prime, Primes are used at lvl 65 and ill send in the stats of the primes when i figure out how to. also, even if he drops something you are allowed to make a pact with ramuh which allows you to obtain him as a summon, in order to get him you must have unlocked the summoner job, not nescessarily have it as a sub or main job. Hope this info was helpful to u ^^

Wow you are way off track
Ramuh doesn't drop anything, there is a cut scene after you defeat him. He will give you part of his power (key item), then you go back to the NPC who gave you the quest and you get another cut scene and you decide what you want.

Yes this is the quest to get Ramuh, and you must have MAX fame in windurst in order to give the quest, Ripapa is in Mhaura on the second floor of the town just to the side of the bridge over the path out of town. In order to finish this quest, you must get a party of lvl 65's including yourself or a party of lvl 70-75 with u being lvl 40 or higher, if for some reason the higher lvls bring u at lvl 30 or so make sure to either know reraise or bring an Instant Reraise Scroll bought at the guards for 500 gil. U need one because at half life each avatar uses their 2 hour ability which is an area attack. This applys to all avatar quests except different ways to get to their battle field and the guy is in a different place for each.
