In-Game Text

Description

Magriffon (I-7) has given all his worldly possessions to save a pack of poor Opo-opos from starvation. Now he needs someone to save him from getting kicked out of the bed & breakfast before he has completed his 'top secret' mission. He says, "If only I had XXX gil..."

The amount of gil he asks for seems to be determined by a number of factors of your character. (ie, Rank, Fame, ect...)

I went searching around Khazam, looking for the fame-teller NPC, just to satisfy my curiosity and assure myself that I did, in fact, have Hero level fame there.

I could not remember her name, or location, so I simply started speaking to every NPC I could find.

I found this RDM Elvaan in a shop, and he greeted me (in cutscene) with something like "Ah, the adevnturer from the other day!"

I thought to myself, "Listen buddy, if we've ever met before, it was so long ago that I have no freaking idea who you are".

Anyway, after the interesting cutscene and his tragic tale (sound of the tiniest violin), he asked me for 18k.

It is probably not based on how much money you have on you, since at the time I had less than 200k on me.

I suspect that perhaps the amount he asks for varies based on your fame or your rank (or maybe level).

(I was level 70, rank 7, hero fame at the time)

Anyway, while I have apparently interacted with this NPC on some previous occasion which I cannot remember (possibly when I first came to Khazam, nearly a year ago), I have no idea what is meant to happen next here.

I got the title "Gullible's Travels", but despite giving him 18,000 gil, recieved no map key item nor anything else of any kind.

That's why it's called Gullible's Travels... You get NOTHING for this quest. The ONLY reason to do it is to unlock other quests such as "The Opo-Opo and I" quest. You probably knew that already but... meh.

I think maybe the ammount he asks you for depends on how much you have. I had around 200k when I activated the first quest and asked for 10k. When I went back later with 800k, he asked for 18k. I sent most of my money to myself and he asked for 20k for the second one.

Why does this say "ESTIMATED FAME NEEDED: NONE" ???

This guy will barely talk to me other than say if anyone ever laid a hand on a lady such as myself, hed..blah blah blah.

How much fame is really needed? I got and completed the Teleport quest in Kazham, so whats up with this one?

Also, is there truth that if you dont have high Windy fame, you cant get a lot of Kazham quests? Im from Sandy and want to start the Opo-Crown quest, but have to do this other ones first...

    Anyhelp would be appreciated..

My Fame in Kazham is basically
"Everyone has speaks you name" or something like that, and then "Pretty soon, I'll have to start calling you Mister Sayre" (my name is Sayre). So, yeah...

I needed level 6 windurst fame before I could get this quest. Its the one where someone has to live in a hole not to have heard about you and bards sing about you across the land. It also allows you to unlock the Ifrit battle.

    That's rank 7 fame...
I should know, because I have rank 6, and I can't get this one or the Ifrit battle. I'm so frustrated with this fame ******** right now... ARGH. Just let me do my quests and be done with it ><

This probably sounds weird, but I think he asks for 10k from female characters and 15k from male. My character is female and his request for 10k was accompanied by much flattery and flirtation. An NPC hitting on my char . . . Smiley: eek

This is the first of Magriffon's two quests.

Quest #1 - Give him 10k Gil. Reward is fame only.
Quest #2 - Give him 18k Gil. Reward is a "Treasure Map" key item.

Treasure map provides three coordinates in Yuhtunga Jungle: (F-7) (H-10) (I-12). At each of these locations is a plant. Click on it to receive a Jar of Nectar and be bathed in pollen. After clicking on the final plant, you are told the pollen makes you dizzy. This makes you smell nice to the Opo-opo (monkeys), and you can now get the "Opo-opo and I" quest http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=&fquest=338

As for the 3 Jars of Nectar, they can be sold back to NPC vendors for around 2600 Gil. I dont know if they are also an ingredient in some crafting recipe, but chances are they would be.
    i got next quest

there is another quest leading up after this titled "Even more gullibles travels" haha... basically his story is that he was in sea serpent grotto and he met this noble women and he had to save her but had to giv the norg pirates his 10k gil which you give him.. so now hes in a jam and he is outta money to pay the kazham bed and breakfast, he says he will give u a map if you give him 18k gil with the map in green so /shrug not sure if he actually gives you the map or if he does which map is it? im not gonna be doing this yet til i have a surplus of money, trying to sell my telport mea scroll for 60k so i may do it after

the strange thing is i did the quest but it required quite a bit of fame to do so i doubt it boosts it because i was rank 7 fame anyway which what i needed for ramuh avatar from windurstian fame... thers another quest i believe that leads after this because i saw a title called even more gullibles travels or something along that line. so far its a waste of 10k but it has to lead to something other wise it would be uselsss
    Very strange
    # Feb 09 2004 at 10:40 PM Rating: Default
From what I read on a Japanese site this quest will boost your fame by almost/about two levels if you actually do pay him 10k, but please don't take my word for it. I've no way to confirm this.
