Summary

The weighting stone used to make the Rarab Tail Hostelry's specialty dish, "Rarab Tail Pickles," was broken.
Chamama wants you to find her a replacement stone that is just the right size, shape, and weight.

Walkthrough

Talk to Chamama to get the quest. She will ask you for a replacement weighting stone. Head out to the Sarutabaruta plains and kill crawlers until you receive a Smooth Stone.

Go back to Chamama and trade her the stone. Whether she accepts it or not is random, so you might have to do many hand-ins if you are unlucky. Since the stone is Rare/Exclusive, you must go back outside to obtain another stone until she decides the stone you brought her is acceptable. The first one she accepts will get you a Bone Hairpin. After that, you get 200 gil per stone.

I did the quest, but I keep getting her to ask again, but she will not take any more stones. She does not even say anything when I try to trade, it just does not even happen. Strange, when I would think she would. Yes, I try it all the time, nothing changes.

I hate this quest. 4 stones now and they've all been wrong in some way or another.

And I'm having to slaughter hundreds of Crawlers to even get 1 drop. Mah, at least I'm getting some Silk Threads from doing all this.
who really knows!?!?
# Jan 05 2007 at 3:54 AM Rating: Decent
I turned in at least 10 of these before she ever accepted one, and I turned it in at 1700 hours. I had also turned one in at 1600 and she denied me. I believe this to be a random one, I hate random quests

i'd like to apologize to the crawler community of west sarutabaruta for slaughtering their peoples. thank you for the silks and good luck reviving the species. 5th smooth stone completed. head north out of windurst waters zone and run 35 ft zig zags and you should get a smoothe stone before you reach the east sarutabaruta zone. good luck. god speed.
bad luck?
# Nov 08 2005 at 5:25 PM Rating: Decent
Six stones now and she still hasn't taken a single one. Do I just have really bad luck or am I missing something?
This quest is stupid

I spent like 3 hours farming for Beehive chips and Silk and got 1 of these. I come back to get my awesome bone pin v.v and she doesnt even give it to me. That smooth stone is really rare drop.
lucky
# Jan 11 2005 at 2:29 AM Rating: Decent
wow, looks like I'm lucky she usually excepts every other stone I give her, I've done this quest somewhere between 15 and 18 times.
My take...
# Dec 10 2004 at 7:44 PM Rating: Decent
In my experience, she will take your Smooth Stone once per level.

The quest may be time dependant, or it might be some other factor, but I've found that if you wait one full level gained you will never get a refusal.

Remember to get the quest before you gain the new level.

Ok, I've been doing this quest repeatedly for quite a while. I know I'm beating a dead horse but believe me it's all RANDOM. My usual track record is she accepts it about 1 in 4 tries. I've turned in ten in a row without her accepting any or she may accept 3 in a row. My best suggestion is not to loose sleep over this. Don't spend all your time killing crawlers looking for this (although killing crawlers for silk thread is another matter:P). If it does drop, great! Turn it in the next time you're near windhurst waters but don't go out of your way, it's too frustrating.

Does your fame contine to increase for repeating this quest?

If so, does it only increase if she accepts the stone?

Just my own experiences...a friend and I were both doing this quest. She accepted the second stone I offered her.

Then one evening we both got a stone and turned them in together and she rewarded us both. It was 05:00 in the morning (Game time) when we turned ours in.

I wondered if the time of day might have had anything to do with it. So I made sure to wait for night time, after 18:00 but before 06:00, the next time.

In fact, she gave me 200 gil for the next four stones I handed in at night.

6 successful turn-ins in a row at night isn't enough to confirm that time of day has anything to do with it, but perhaps this information is helpful. I know a couple other folks posted here early morning (after 3AM game time) turn-ins failed...so maybe it was just all luck.
Choosy NPC

I finally had the stone she wanted on my 15th trip. According to the description on the stone, all the ones gathered were of the perfect size, etc. The NPC is just very umm.. "choosy"

Annoying? Yes,.. Yes it was.

Aside from the pain-in-the-butt randomness of the NPC's acceptance of the stone, I happened to gather enough silks from my many many crawler kills to turn a decent profit at the AH. ^^

Happy Questing!

Ew. And my LS was making me feel unlucky for having to bring her four. ^^;;;;
Can you predict it?
# Jan 28 2004 at 6:00 PM Rating: Decent
There was a question if the text description of the Stone predicted if she would except it. Well... I turned in a stone. The name was "Smooth Stone" the description was "This round stone is the perfect size to use as a weight for making pickles" and she rejected. It is totaly random.
Stone size
# Jan 19 2004 at 2:55 PM Rating: Default
I believe it may be possible to know if your stone is the correct weight/size before you return to the inn. When I looked at the one I received today it said this stone is perfect for holding down a pickle lid thingy (something along those lines, basically said it was just right). If a stone does not have that in the description then I believe it wont work so just throw it away and carry on hunting. I could be totally worng however so would be grateful if someone could confirm this.

There is a question as to the randomness of this? I have turned in about 20+ stones and yet still she will not accept one as "The right stone". Oh well, atleast it is funny to my friends.

NO the rock is NOT the meteorite, that's for a different quest.

It's called a smooth stone, and it drops off crawlers. The meteorite only drops off crawlers on Starfall Hillock and it will not work for this quest.

I did this quest with two different chars.

One had to give her 11 stones before I got the hairpin.

Second char got it on 3rd and has given her a second stone for 200gil. I have yet to see if waiting a day will allow for a third stone. For now she is refusing.

Okay, after zoning and picking up another stone, I went back and was again offered the quest. This stone (stone #1 of the 3rd time) did not work. I am still under the impression it is once per game day that you can get offered the quest.

Just noticed that the writeup says it's repeatable...

Well.. it's not. She won't accept more stones once you manage to (randomly) get one the right size.

It is repeatable. After you finally get the one that's just right, you can get her more and they might be just right too (happened to me once) or you might reset the quest and she will start saying they aren't right again...which happened to me now.

This seems to be random, I got it on my third try. The quest is not repeatable (she won't accept any more stones) and the smooth stones can't be sold or traded so once you do this quest you may as well just toss them because they are now junk.

It's repeatable. You just have to give her a little time before you do it again. She has to have time to break the one you already brought her. :)

I've done this quest at least 6 times. It never stops being repeatable.

It's really simple: You get a smooth stone, take it to her. There's no way to know if she'll accept it until you try (though the theory that taking it at nighttime spells success might just be right). If she keeps rejecting you, keep trying. Once you give her one that she'll take, it'll only be a matter of time before she breaks it again and you have a chance to do the quest again.

It's not that complicated, people. Take the "smooth stone" to Chamama. If she says it's not good enough, get another. If she takes it, wait a few days and do it over again. :3

Maybe it's random by the time you give it? I gave it @ 3:12 game time, it said the stone was too heavy
