Summary

Twenty years ago, a small nation was destroyed by the flames of war, and many died without reason. Your assistance is required in holding a ritual to send these troubled souls to their proper resting place in the afterlife.

Walkthrough

Note: You must have completed The Sacred Katana - SAM AF1 and waited until JP Midnight to begin this quest.

First, head out to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix at K-8. He says a feather from a rare bird is needed for a ritual to guide the lost spirits of the dead. Next, head to J-8 and talk to Washu, who needs a piece of Giant sheep meat, a Frost Turnip, a Bastore Sardine and a Hecteyes Eye to make bait for the bird. Bring her all four ingredients, and she gives you the special stew needed to lure the bird out.

Now, head out to Labyrinth of Onzozo. Stick to the left wall, all the way, until you see a hut, similar to the Ghoul huts found in Maze of Shakhrami. There should be a ??? there at (F-8). Examine the ??? and choose the option to lay down the special food to lure out the bird. An NM bird called Ubume will pop. This NM bird will cast horde lullaby. Once you've defeated Ubume, re-inspect the ??? and you will obtain a key item feather.

Return to Norg with the feather, and speak with Jaucribaix. He will accept the feather. Wait until after the next Japanese Midnight, then talk to him again. He will say that he has finally forged the katana, which he named the Yomotsu Hirasaka, for the ritual. You will receive this katana as a key item.

Next, travel to Valkurm Dunes and head to the hidden beach in the upper northwest corner of the map. Once you arrive at the beach, search the shoreline for a ??? spot. Wait until nightfall (20:00 to 4:00), and click the spot and choose to initiate the ritual. BE WARNED: Two VERY hard Notorious Monsters are going to spawn: Doman, a shadow, and Onryo, a ghost. After defeating both NMs, re-inspect the ??? spot to get a Faded Yomotsu Hirasaka (Key Item).

Take this back to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix again to receive your Myochin Sune-Ate.

Just did this as a 75 BST, and using my BST was just purely overkill.

Long story short...

Ubume is only going to be hard if you forget to buy a poison potion. I'm sure anyone with some soloing skills can do it. When I did it, it used Horde Lullaby quite often... good thing I had a supply of Mantas at my fingertips to worry about taking a beating for me. Using the cats are even bigger overkill. I let my pets do all the work, so I never even hit him.

The two NMs in the Dunes are easy to handle also. Just follow the tips listed above, and pull them seperately. One Carrie took them both out while I watched TV.

this NM was incredibly easy, i was kinda disappointed after reading all the posts.
went as 75sam/dnc and brought a 75thf along as well, after reading the responses i got nervous. i popped a poison pot, med up to 300tp did a samba, popped him, used Sekka, unloaded a Light SC on him, he must've been silenced from my Gekko because he didn't cast anything the whole time...after this first attack round his life was down to 27%, he got 2 hits on me for 120ish a piece...but seemed pretty inaccurate. he dropped in less than 30 seconds, woulda been an easy solo.

having to redo all af for sam cause it was all was upgraded to af+1, i decided i'm gonna try to solo all the sam af. so far it has been easy as smn. the real challenge is af3 i remember it was the roughest but i was also less experienced and lower level sam at the time. i just used ramuh on this one and went at it had tp at beginning at 300 to use retribution. had to cast like 2 cure3 onmyself due to ga spell dmg but all went rather easy and smooth! fun fight to solo

Just completely soloed this quest on whm75/nin37. You may want to refer to my post about Ubume, because that was not an easy fight...however, Doman was a complete joke and Onryo was a bit harder but still not really challenging.

I approached Doman and Onryo by buffing, then sneaking myself and pulling individually. I pulled Doman first and took him down without taking any damage...he's really not even worth mentioning xD

Onryo was a bit harder to solo, though it was nothing compared to Ubume so there's no really special information I need to post.

Both Doman and Onryo resisted my silence, but were affected by paralyze and slow. Doman went down shortly after I got enough TP to Hexa Strike...Onryo took a bit more time. Onryo attacks pretty fast in comparison to the other mobs, even with Slow on it.

In short, the other two NMs were way easier than Ubume. Good luck ^^

I just fought the bird as 75 RDM... it was actually pretty funny... The bird does hit hard and fast but VERY innaccurately - RDM has D- evasion skill, and it still missed me 90% of the time. However, when it DOES hit, with phalanx up, it did around 40-70 dmg with 420 defense. More than anything though, it only hit me for dmg when I dropped stonsekin so it could wake me after sleeping me. No, I didnt bring poison potions, but I figured I wouldnt need them with barsleep Job trait (from sub), Flawless ribbon (usually gives immunity to all status ailments), and Cast barsleep on myself with capped enhancing magic. Take my advice though, there is no instance where you will resist this things sleep, it's VERY annoying... Because of this, the fight took about 5min, but would have been under a minute if not for it's sleep spam. Oh... and silence DOES stick, but it casts Lullaby EXTREMELY fast, so it's almost impossible to get silence off again after it wears before it sleeps you. Other than being annoying though, this is a joke of an NM for a 75.

If you're going underleveled for this fight be prepared for what will/could be a rough fight. nuff said

Other than that, im sure any dd job can solo these as 75 (less even if u know how to handle shadow and ghost type mobs)
The birdy i used NIN, ez fight to say the least (used one poison pot)
The shadow/ghost tag team i used RDM/NIN and sneak popped, killed one at a time, didnt even drop below 1khp/300mp
Pushovers indeed w/ 75

Those nms were pathetic! I easily solo'd the ghost as a 71 pld. the 75 nin that was with me iced the shadow in about a minute. The whole thing was still fun to do. Like I said below the bird isn't a solo job if you're pld/war for some reason.

Did this over the weekend... Wasn't as hard as expected, Umbue was definately the hardest part of the qst... I was 70 RDM/war for voke and was helping out my g/f who is was a 66 SAM/WAR then... We cleared the gobs to avoid ag and so I could gain some tp... Once I got 300 tp just let mp refresh, buff as if I was soloing EP pop a poison potion and had the sam pop the bird... It spawns, I voke and draw it into the tunnel away from it's little hut and we proceed to beat his ass... I did have to convert but it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be... Now the second half of the qst... SAM was 67 by then repeated the tp buffing process and she spawns the NM's... I voke the shadow and rune back towards the rune stones as she zones the ghost into Gustav tunnel... I go into attack mode, paralyze, slow etc, try silence but it doesn't stick... Anyway I berserk, and give it a vorpal blade for 600+ damage and his health drops to about 60% it DDs me dropping my stoneskin so I recast stoneskin gain another 100 tp and vorpal blade again, it DDs but doesn't break thru stoneskin...By the time the sam rezones back into the dunes its dead and I head towards Gustav Tunnel to find the ghost... Make it to the tunnel and get CONNECTION LOST...log back on and ghost is still there but headed back to the spawn point... I rebuff refresh and kill some crabs for tp to 100... It's daylite by now and the mob is still out so I don't think it despawns... I cast paralyze on it ,sam uses gekko then I vorpal blade... Sam 2hrs and unleashes and takes it was down to about 15-20% hp... My mp was below 200 and Sam was in the yellow so I was trying to just keep her alive... Luckly enuff she gets tp for a final WS and it's dead...

I just completed this quest with my LS.

54 sam/war
54 nin/war
54 whm/blm

I already posted our battle with Ubume under the NM Ubume thread so look there if you are interested in our tactics for that fight.

As for Onryo and Domon -
We buffed up before the fight by raising our TP on the mobs around us and casting all the appropriate protective spells. At midnight the sam used silent oil, to avoid both NMs aggroing together, and traded the sacred sword to the ???. The Nin pulled the weaker Domon to the campsite and we were able to destroy it very quickly with the Nin maintaining hate the whole time and chaining a WS with the sam. We then engaged the onryo. It attacked so frequently that the Nin's shadows were largely ineffective, it also managed to para both the sam and nin almost immediately. Our whm was laggy (and overconfident) and immediately began offensive whm spells against the Onryo. The sam managed to get a WS off but was then slowly shreded by the onryo as the paraed nin had little chance to regain aggro. Once the sam died the Onryo turned to the nin and killed her pretty quickly too. Luckily the whm's holy had finally gone off and he managed to cast banish II which killed it.
I think a similar pt playing intelligently, like saving their two hours for the onryo, could easily do this with no deaths.
Why was I even worried??

Just soloed this as 75war/nin. Too weak lol - only hit me once, and that was because i had 1 less shadow up at the beginning of the fight than i thought. Rampage for 1545 dmg :D

I had some trouble with the Secret Beach NMs. I popped them as NIN, killed them (perhaps just after night) and examined the ???. I didn't get a key item, instead I got "What do you think you are doing?" Of course I thought I was done, went to Norg, and Jaucribraix doesnt give me teh feet. He says 'It is this time after dusk that you must thrust the Yomotsu Hirasaka into the sands..'

All I can figure is: 1) I popped the mobs in the window, but examined the ??? after the window
or 2) I need to examine the ??? as SAM (although this would be illogical, since it let me pop the NMS with NIN)

Any advice?

I just did this solo and wanna give some info for any other rdm/nin's out there who are considering doing this solo..

I popped the mobs.. and ended up having to zone to gustav (I started fighting the ghost first.. bad idea)... when I came back out I went back to spawn point and they were both standing there.. I aggroed the drk and the ghost just sat there.. I was thinking I cant be this lucky, can I? I killed the drk in 30 seconds, being generous.. then the ghost despawned.. I checked the ??? again and got my item.

The elvaan drk is definitely the mob you should fight first, he will go down a lot faster than the ghost.. If you bind / gravity the ghost and take out the drk first, then this battle will be <Easy Prey>.

Both section NM's are pretty easy as Red Mage solo.

Bird - RDM/NIN, keep shadows up, do your thing. Sleep can be a real c*nt so bring poison pots. I didn't, but were I to do it again, I would for sure. I brought NM to zone and fought there, plenty of time to run back and get item when you beat it.

Elvaan, Ghost - RDM/BLM, sneak pop, pull Elvaan and solo, pull Ghost and solo. Very, very easy. Thunder III and Fire III did 450+ DMG if you have extra MP at the end of the fight.

Done and done.

Gear is pretty average, Joyeuse, Scorp Harness, everything else AF, Acc. No food.

If you have any questions or need help, let me know.

Malaya, Sylph.

60 pld
60 sam
52 sam

I voke the ghost while the other two get to work on the Shadow. Now let me tell you I nearly got wasted. Started off with being hit by a Stone 3? for 200 dmg follow by an ectosmash. When I had 1000hp left he decided to Freeze me for 600 dmg...wasnt cool. Luckily the others finished the Shadow and helped me dispose of the ghost. I even had to 2hr it was that bad. I was wearing full af and had 100 vit >.<

Just soloed both NMs as 75PLD/WAR.

The bird gave me some trouble, and without Chivalry I might not have been able to kill it. I used a Tavnazian Taco and sword/shield set up.

On the Undead NMs, I killed them both with no food, and without Chivalry.

TPed to 300, used Berserk/Warcry, and opened with a 1k+ Savage Blade on the Elvaan. That took down the majority of his health. Then I switched to staff for Spirit Taker, and finished him and the ghost off with no problem, using only one holy water in the process, which I probably would have been fine without.

Both these NM fights are soloable by a 75PLD.

I just finished this quest. I tackled the bird with the help of a MNK74, WHM63, and DRG56 (I was SAM61 at the time). Obviously the Monk helped tremendously, so I can't really say how we would've done without him, but I think we could've pulled it off.

For the two NMs in Valkurm Dunes, I went with my LS. Our party consisted of SAM61 (me), WHM63, DRG57, BLU49, BLM32, and MNK32 (our Lv. 32 friends died very quickly ><). It started off a bit chaotic, but we were victorious in the end.

Obviously getting help is the hardest part of this quest. I personally recommend finding at least two others around Lv. 60, preferably a WHM and a tank. If you can't find a tank, you can probably pull it off using Seigan + Third Eye with a /WAR sub, but you'll need to be careful.

If you're on Lakshmi server and need help with this, just send me a /tell. I'd be happy to help you get through it.

Take a 75 SMN along, I just solod it on SMN75/WHM37. Make sure you pop it with sneak up and go for the elvaan first (since he drops really fast). As long as carby is free for you he can take them out using meteorite a few times... was down to about 600/100 mp so not bad. Good Luck!

This quest is relativelly easy but really time consuming. Ubume was the only real challange. I went with my 75 Nin/37 War friend and she and I both got wiped from the bird. It was his Horde Lullaby that did us in. Then we went back with practically a full pt of 65+ players (And me, 52 SAM at the time :P)and toasted him, course with that many people how could you not.

Note: You do not have to wait a full RL day.
I gave Jauc the feather at 9:45pm, at 7pm the next day I went to talk to him (Just to check it out) and he gave me the key item katana. So it's probablly 1 Game day

Next we moved onto Valkurm. This was, by far, the easiest part of the quest. Took the same 75 Nin friend and two RDM's 65+. Doman went down in a second after the Nin took a couple swipes and Onryo went down a couple seconds later. Overall that fight took us about...1 minute? Max, for both. Lol. So yes, [Samurai][Artifact][Boots]=[Mine] [/joy] ^^

It's not hard if you take them one at a time. You dont need 36 lvl 75s to to it.

Did it easily with 66 SMN, 51 SAM (me) and a 50 MNK who was just looking for fun :)

SMN sneaked me and I made them pop. He then pulled Doman with Carby. Me and the Mnk used our two hours on him (since we read he was so easy). The Onryo was tougher but with garuda's blink he did not touch us at all :)
(Samurai) (Boots) (mine)!! /grin

Soloed them both as 75 thf/nin.

Took out Doman first, and let the ghost miss at me until I finished off the Doman.

Only lost about 200 hp or so.

Extremely EASY NM fight. Was helping a samurai get his boots. Ghost was harder than the elvaan IMO, but overall easy. I finished the elvaan in one 1 ws at 50% and killed him so fast.

just to let you know - a high lvl beastmaster could easily solo the bird.

67BST/WHM, cleared the gobs from the area with the scorps(kill 2 birds with one stone). Went to get a torama.... had an unexpected fight with peg prowler which was taking far too long(I figured I would be nice and not leave Thea to the gobs) so I logged to escape. Came back on and charmed a VT torama (3 tries), 2-houred it, went back to clear the gobs which popped again.

The bird is very easy with a torama. It started with TP and used blaster right away so it couldnt cast any songs and only took away less than 20% from the torama. The fight took less than 2 mins.

If you wanted to beat this easy, bring a 70 BST (or 67 if they are willing to die ^^).

(and I killed peg prowler and got the axe after too)

Now to get 6 more levels on my SAM and do this for myself.

So I returned after killing the bird in Onzozo and gave the key item to the NPC Jaucribaix. I did this about 3 earth days ago and he still says don't rush me. What should I do? Some LS folks suggested the conquest tally or maintenance screwed it up. Should I call a GM? Talk to Service and Support on POL site? suggestions?

A lvl 66 Nin/War helped me kill hte 2 NMs the other day. It is pretty easy. Here's what we did:

- I do "Third Eye" and pop the NMs and start running even before u see the mobs.

- Nin Provoked Doman (shadow) as I zoned to Gustav Tunnel.

-By the time Onryo returns to the Nin, Doman is dead and your Nin, if he is good, should still be in good shape.

-Nin tells me to come out of Gustav Tunnel, and I help him kill Onryo using my 2Hr.

That's It...really easy. Good Luck :)

EDIT: forgot to mention.. I was Level 52 Sam/War.

Same thing happened to me, i just zoned into Sea Serpent Grotto and back to Jaucribaix, then he gave me the quest. I gave him the feather and logged out for a day, when I returned 25 hours later he still said "Dont rush me, this will take time!" or something like that. But i did get it finished, and here is how it went:

After a week or two of begging people to help me with the NMs, i finally get TWO people to help me out of about three dozen in my LS..75RDM and 75PLD. The only thing that went wrong was the aggro in Onzozo. Other than that, we toasted the bird and got the feather. 25 hours later i got the second part, then gathered 5 of my old friends to help me with the two in Valkurm. They were a sinch, especially since the 75 THF brutally one-shotted Doman with an 1140 Dancing Edge without SA. I was shocked, yes. The second NM wasnt too far behind, and I checked the ??? again and got the key item. Back to Norg and got my boots, and I`m happy. :) Thanks to the people that helped, I`ll keep you /anon so you wont be pestered. ^^ Now if i can just get a damned Quicksand Caves coffer key...

Well, it looks like I've thrown away my Washu's Tasty Wurst. I can't find it anywhere, not in my inventory, mog safe, or storage... Anyone know how to get another one? I've tried trading the items to Washu again, to no avail. When I talk to her, she just tries to send me on another quest for some Opo-opo alcohol. Jack isn't any help, either. Anyone else run into this problem? Whatever help you can provide would be greatly appreciated, I have to finish it before I can start my helm fight >_<

Washu's tasty wurst turns out to be a key item, not an inventory item. (edit's bringing up a 404 error)

All, and I mean ALL, of the quests related to samurai are difficult in comparison to the other job related quests. Even the first quest to get the job is harder than the others. This one, the AF2 quest, is harder than any of the AF3 quests I've helped with (the alliance battles for drg, whm, pld, drk and rdm). It seems that because samurais are sacred (or something) to the japanese they feel that, even in a game, everything has to 5 times as hard for them. But samurai is still one of the most powerful melee jobs in the game, so that's some consolation.

Lemme tell you...

It sucks, when you need one friggin item, say the frost turnip, and its not available ANYWHERE.

Valedunia vendor carries it, but when its under beastmen control, you can't get it from them.

Aveline in South Sandy has it too, but only when Sandy is ranked first in conquest.

Then the AH is empty constantly of these turnips during this time, because no one goes out to Uleguarand Range to kill the rabbits to get them, or they don't garden them.

So tell me, how in the hell is anyone supposed to finish this quest under these conditions without having a level 70+ or a full alliance of level 50s to get the Turnip?

I was prepared to go solo the big bird myself tonight on my PLD, and I have the other 3 items as they are easily attainable, but WHY SE? WHY?!

Its a damn AF2 quest.... At least make the items easy to get so you can have the "hard part" with the 3 different NMs you have to fight to get it.

Guess I'm stuck with having to go solo some Rabbits with my PLD -.-

You got a 75 pld, why can't you go out to the range and get 1 yourself? Also note, your sam is only 49 so why you worried about this quest? Next thing...on most servers that friends are on, Sandy is ranked #1 about 90% of the time. Guess you got shafted being on that server.
